This wikiHow teaches you how to convert a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation into a Microsoft Word document by using the "Create Handouts" feature on PowerPoint for Windows, or by exporting an RTF (Rich Text Format) file using PowerPoint for Mac. The current version of PowerPoint for Mac does not have the "Create Handouts" feature. RTF files are not able to accurately convert the formatting of some PowerPoint features, so many images and backgrounds may not be supported.

Things You Should Know

  • Open the PowerPoint that you want to convert.
  • On Windows, go to File > Export… > Create Handouts . Follow the prompts and select a layout for your Word document. Finish by clicking OK .
  • On Mac, go to File > Export… . Enter a file name and choose a save location. Click File Format > Rich Text Format (.rtf) > Export .
  • Open the RTF file in Word and go to File > Save As… > Format > Word Document (.docx) > Save .

Step 1 Open a PowerPoint presentation.

  • If you want the Word document to update whenever the original PowerPoint presentation is changed, click on Paste link .
  • If you want the Word document to remain unchanged whenever the original PowerPoint presentation is updated, click on Paste .

Step 8 Click on OK.

  • In most instances, the formatting and pagination will not match the original PowerPoint presentation and many pictures or backgrounds may not be supported by the RTF format. Be sure to go through the Word document and adjust it to your liking.

How to Add PowerPoint Slides Into a Word Document

Insert PowerPoint slides as individual images

  • Brock University

What to Know

  • In Word, go to Insert > Add from Files and select the PowerPoint file. Choose Insert Slide for each slide you want to add.

Use the Picture Format menu to adjust each inserted slide.

When you want to use PowerPoint slides in a Microsoft Word document, use the Add from Files tool to import one or more slides from a PowerPoint presentation as images to the Word file. We show you how to do it using Microsoft Word for Microsoft 365, Word 2019, Word 2016, and Word for Mac.

How to Insert PowerPoint Slides Into a Word Document

Slides from an existing PowerPoint presentation can be inserted as an image into a blank document or an existing document.

Open an existing or blank Word document, then position the cursor where you want to insert the PowerPoint slide.

Go to the Insert tab and select Add from Files .

Select the PowerPoint file that contains the slides you want to add to the Word document.

If the file isn't listed, select Show More Files to browse the filesystem and choose a file.

In the Insert From File panel, find the slide you want to insert as an image and select Insert Slide to insert it into the document.

The slide appears as an image. It can only be edited with photo tools.

Considerations

In old versions of Microsoft Office , it sometimes made sense to export PowerPoint content into Word to mark it up with the speaker's notes and other information. However, PowerPoint has advanced such that these workarounds no longer prove as helpful.

PowerPoint presentations can be exported in different formats including PDF, several image formats, several movie formats, and a rich-text outliner format. Use these export formats as an alternative to a multi-step Word process.

Microsoft developed the PPT format for PowerPoint, which is mostly used for creating and editing presentations. PPT files normally comprise slides of text, images and animations that can play as timed or manually controlled slideshows. Users can build presentations from scratch or use an online or company corporate template. PowerPoint is the most widely used format for presentations in both educational and work settings. It can also be used for creating reports, which users often save or print as a PDF. Since 2007, PPTX has been Microsoft’s standard file format for PowerPoint. However, even if you have a newer version of the program, you can still use it to open older PPT files, and also to save presentations into PPT format. PowerPoint is part of the Microsoft Office suite, but some other programs, like LibreOffice, Apple Keynote or Google Slides, can also open both PPT and PPTX files.

DOC and DOCX are the most common word processing file formats. DOC was primarily used by Microsoft for its Word program until 2003. Since 2007, Word has used DOCX as standard, although you can still open DOC files and can still save to the older format. DOC and DOCX are used for formatted text documents like reports, letters or resumes. They can include pictures, charts, and graphs, as well as plain or formatted text, and can also contain an editable template. Word is part of Microsoft Office, which is available as a paid software application or accessed online with a Microsoft 365 subscription. Microsoft Office was designed for the Windows operating system, but you can also install Office apps on other operating systems like Apple’s macOS and Google’s ChromeOS. A basic free ‘Word for the web’ program is also available online for Microsoft account holders. DOC files are easy to share and print, and can be opened by most word processing programs, including LibreOffice, Apple Pages, and Google Docs, as well as by Microsoft Word.

Just upload your PowerPoint file, click to convert it to DOC, and then download the document.

Zamzar’s free online conversion tool just has three steps and works in real time – upload a PowerPoint file, select DOCX, then ‘Convert Now’, and then download your file. All the text from your PowerPoint presentation should now be in a Word document.

How do I convert a PowerPoint to Word on a mobile?

It can sometimes be hard to view PowerPoint files on mobiles, but you can convert them to Word for free on websites like Zamzar. The three-step conversion tool on Zamzar’s website can export all the text from PowerPoint files – simply upload your file, select to convert it to DOCX format, and your file will be ready to download in seconds. Because it’s online, you don’t even need to install any additional apps.

What you need to know, how to convert word to powerpoint on the web.

You might have converted a PowerPoint presentation to a Word document before so that you could edit it. But did you know that you can do the reverse? Take your Microsoft Word document and turn it into a Microsoft PowerPoint slideshow.

Maybe you want a jumpstart on creating your presentation using the text that you've saved in Word. Or maybe you've realized that your document would be better presented as a PowerPoint slideshow. With Word on the web, you can convert your document easily.

Here are a few things to keep in mind in terms of converting Microsoft Word documents to PowerPoint presentations. These points might be updated over time. The feature began rolling out in early 2021 :

  • The ability to convert PowerPoint presentations is currently only available in Word for the web.
  • The option is currently only available in English.
  • The feature is not currently available when using Safari or Internet Explorer.
  • At the time of writing, text content is available for export. If you have media content in your Word document, you'll need to add it to the PowerPoint presentation separately.

Now, if you're ready to give this feature a try, let's get to it! Head to the  Microsoft Office online  website, sign in to your account, and open your document in Word. You do not have to open PowerPoint in another tab or window.

Click File > Export and choose the "Export to PowerPoint Presentation" option.

You'll see a pop-up window with a collection of themes. Select the theme that you want to use and click "Export." You can change the theme in PowerPoint once it's exported if you like.

After several moments, you'll receive a notification that your newly converted presentation is ready. Click the "Open Presentation" button.

The slideshow will open in Microsoft PowerPoint for the web in a new tab.

The presentation will be saved to OneDrive automatically with the same name as your Microsoft Word document. If you haven't named your document, the slideshow will have a default name, such as Document 1. Click the name in the top-left corner and give it a new file name.

Styles like headings and bullet points should transfer as such. However, this could change depending on the theme that you select. Keep in mind that you might need to make some adjustments to the slideshow after you export it.

I have a word document with about 30 pages of text. and i am trying to convert it to powerpoint. Most are plain text. After converting it, i can edit it to make nice slides. I just don't want to repeatedly copy/paste. Is there a way to do this easily?

If you want to export text to PPT you can use the Word to Powerpoint option in Word online. I haven't had any experience with it as it is only available in English and not in Dutch.

If your text has headings, in other words text has been allocated an outline level then you can export that text to PPT. Here's my article on the subject, it was written for PPT 2013 but it still applies to later versions, it does in my Word 2019. You can allocate an outline level to any paragraph in Word if you go to the paragraph settings.

Thanks for posting in the community. We are happy to help you.

Based on my search, here are the methods that may help you.

1. Use the feature " Export Word documents to PowerPoint presentations " in Word for Web.

You can upload the Word document to OneDrive or SharePoint, then open it in Word for the Web, click File> Export > Export to PowerPoint presentation. Also, please note that it still has some limitations, and it is available for some insiders, but not available for worldwide users.

2. Use the feature " create a PowerPoint presentation from an outline ".

3. You can use AI to help you to create a presentation. Here is an article: Prepare your presentation with Microsoft 365 Copilot .

Also, we welcome community members to share ideas about the situation if one has related experiences.

Using copilot? Sure, if it's available, but that's a MAJOR assumption, and one that's likely to be wrong.

It just released today for Office, and only to enterprise installs, and then only if the enterprise has decided to pay huge amounts of $$ for each of the minimum 300 users they're required to license.

Let's be more realistic.

How to Make Your Presentations Loop in PowerPoint

Posted: November 2, 2023 | Last updated: November 2, 2023

Microsoft PowerPoint is already a useful productivity tool to deliver slideshows and presentations, but it's even more versatile than you may realize. PowerPoint offers the functionality for your presentations to loop so that the slideshow restarts right after it ends. Read on to find out how to enable this in your project and why such a feature can be immensely useful in a variety of situations.

How to Loop Your Presentations in PowerPoint

As you make your presentation the way you would like for it to be seen, setting your slideshow up to loop is relatively easy. It mainly involves changing a single setting within PowerPoint.

1. Within the Ribbon at the top of the window, click Slide Show . This will take you to a menu of options for displaying and presenting your slide show.

2. Click Set Up Slide Show in the middle Set Up section. This button will open up a pop-up window of detailed, advanced settings for your presentation.

3. In the Set Up Show window, click Loop continuously until 'Esc' in the Show options section.

4. Click OK to apply the change.

5. Preview the presentation using the From Beginning or From Current Slide buttons in the Ribbon to see that the looping works.

As you might notice when you preview the slide show, enabling the setting is only half the battle. While the presentation does return to the first slide after displaying the last one, the slides don't progress on their own. If you want your slides to loop automatically, you'll need to set up transitions between each slide.

How to Automatically Loop Your PowerPoint Slides

1. Select the slide you want to apply the transition to if you haven't already.

2. Click Transitions within the Ribbon. This opens up a variety of options for adding animations when changing from one slide to the next.

3. Choose one of the transitions in the Transition to This Slide section to use with this slide. There are a variety of transition options available, from the subtle to the flashy.

While you can play with each transition to your heart's content, it's not necessarily required; you can stick with the default None option or a simple Fade if you'd like.

4. Navigate to the Timing section on the right-hand side of the Ribbon. In order to automate your loop, you'll need to specify when each slide moves to the next one.

5. Under the Advance Slide heading, click the After: checkbox to enable it.

6. Set a time (in minutes or seconds) by entering one in the text box (currently reading "00:00.00") or the arrow buttons nearby.

7. Repeat this process for the other slides you have. Alternatively, you can click Apply To All to set the current slide's transition settings across every slide in the presentation.

8. When you've applied the transitions you want, you can preview the presentation again using the From Beginning or From Current Slide buttons in the Slide Show tab of the Ribbon.

In the preview, you'll see that the slides now transition automatically, and the loop now works without any further interaction. When you need to leave the presentation, press the Esc (escape) key to return to the normal PowerPoint window.

Why Would You Want to Loop a PowerPoint Presentation?

There are a number of reasons why you'd want to run a PowerPoint presentation in a loop, and thus multiple ways this functionality is useful.

You can create a continuous carousel of photos for gatherings with family and friends or a relaxing slideshow of beaches at the end of a stressful day. You can use it to display important information, like rules or schedules, at conferences or conventions.

The integration with the regular transition timings also allows for specialized use cases where you may need to have certain slides displayed longer than others. For example, it can be used to show menu pricing at a kiosk or on a food truck or to offer some entertainment to people waiting in a long line.

Keep Your PowerPoint Presentation Skills in the Loop

Learning how to loop PowerPoint presentations is just one of the many lesser-noticed features of the widely-used tool that can take your slideshows to a new level.

Functionality like this helps keep PowerPoint a versatile, popular program built for a variety of presenting needs. Now, it's time to put these features to work for you.
