The format of your logistics coordinator cover letter: structure, fonts, margins, and more

Your logistics coordinator cover letter should include a header (with your name, position, and date); a greeting and introductory paragraph; a body and closing paragraphs; and an optional signature.

Remember that you're writing your logistics coordinator cover letter for recruiters - as the Applicant Tracker System won't scan this content.

Here are a few more tips and tricks to keep in mind when formatting your logistics coordinator cover letter:

  • Use the same font in your logistics coordinator cover letter and resume . We recommend modern fonts, e.g. Lato and Rubik, to help you stand out, instead of the stereotypical Arial and Times New Roman.
  • Each paragraph should have single spacing, which is already set up for you in our cover letter templates .
  • Our cover letter builder follows industry standards for your logistics coordinator cover letter formatting - with a one-inch margin, surrounding your content.
  • Always export your logistics coordinator cover letter in PDF to ensure the image or text quality stays the same and your writing isn't moved about.

The top sections on a logistics coordinator cover letter

Header: Include your name, contact information, and the date to ensure the recruiter can easily identify who you are and how to contact you for follow-up regarding the logistics coordinator position.

Greeting: Address the cover letter to a specific individual, such as the hiring manager, to personalize it and demonstrate that you have done your research about the company's staff structure relevant to logistics.

Introduction: Briefly state your interest in the logistics coordinator role and mention any referral or connection you have to the company, as this can help establish a rapport and show your network within the industry.

Body: Highlight your experience in coordinating transport, managing inventory, and optimizing supply chain processes, emphasizing how these skills will benefit the potential employer and showcase your ability in improving logistical efficiency.

Closing: Convey your enthusiasm for the role and logistics as a sector, reiterate how your skills match what the role requires, and include a call to action that suggests your availability to discuss your application in more detail in an interview.

Key qualities recruiters search for in a candidate’s cover letter

Proven experience in logistics management: Recruiters look for candidates who can demonstrate a solid background in coordinating shipments, managing inventory, and optimizing transportation routes to ensure efficiency in the supply chain.

Proficiency in logistics software: Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS), transportation management systems (TMS), and enterprise resource planning (ERP) tools is essential as these are critical in modern logistics coordination.

Strong organizational and multitasking skills: Logistics coordinators need to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously while ensuring timely completion and accuracy.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: The role requires constant communication with suppliers, carriers, and clients, as well as internal teams. Being able to convey information clearly and build strong relationships is crucial.

Ability to analyze and solve problems: Recruiters value candidates who can proactively identify issues within the supply chain and develop effective solutions to mitigate risks and improve processes.

Attention to detail: Precision is key in logistics to ensure that all aspects of shipping and inventory management are handled correctly to avoid costly errors and delays.

How to address hiring managers in your logistics coordinator cover letter greeting

Goodbye, "Dear Sir/Madam" or "To whom it may concern!"

The salutation of your logistics coordinator cover letter is how you kick off your professional communication with the hiring managers.

And you want it to start off a bit more personalized and tailored, to catch the recruiters' attention.

Take the time to find out who's recruiting for the role (via LinkedIn or the company page).

If you have previously chatted or emailed the hiring managers, address them on a first or last name basis.

The alternative is a "Dear HR team" or "Dear Hiring Manger", but remember that a "Dear Ms. Simmons" or "Dear Simon," could get you farther ahead than an impersonal greeting.

List of salutations you can use

  • Dear Hiring Manager,
  • Dear [Company Name] Team,
  • Dear [Department] Manager,
  • Dear [Recipient's Name],
  • Dear Mr./Ms. [Last Name],
  • Dear Dr. [Last Name],

The logistics coordinator cover letter intro: aligning your interest with the company culture

You only have one chance at making a memorable first impression on recruiters with your logistics coordinator cover letter.

Structure your introduction to be precise and to include no more than two sentences.

Here are some ideas on how to write a job-winning logistics coordinator cover letter introduction:

  • get creative - show off your personality from the get-go (if this aligns with the company culture);
  • focus on your motivation - be specific when you say what gets you excited about this opportunity.

That one achievement in your logistics coordinator cover letter body

The lengthiest part of your logistics coordinator cover letter is the body.

Within the next three to six middle paragraphs, present yourself as the best candidate for the role .

How can you do that without retelling your whole professional resume?

Select one key achievement that covers job-crucial skills and technologies (and is memorable).

Within the body of your logistics coordinator cover letter, aim to tell the story of how you achieved your success. Also, write about how this would help out your potential team.

Closing paragraph basics: choose between a promise and a call to action

You've done all the hard work - congratulations! You've almost reached the end of your logistics coordinator cover letter .

But how do you ensure recruiters, who have read your application this far, remember you?

Most logistics coordinator professionals end their cover letter with a promise - hinting at their potential and what they plan on achieving if they're hired.

Another option would be to include a call for follow-up, where you remind recruiters that you're very interested in the opportunity (and look forward to hearing from them, soon).

Choose to close your logistics coordinator cover letter in the way that best fits your personality.

No experience logistics coordinator cover letter: making the most out of your profile

Candidates who happen to have no professional experience use their logistics coordinator cover letter to stand out.

Instead of focusing on a professional achievement, aim to quantify all the relevant, transferrable skills from your life experience.

Once again, the best practice to do so would be to select an accomplishment - from your whole career history.

Another option would be to plan out your career goals and objectives: how do you see yourself growing, as a professional, in the next five years, thanks to this opportunity?

Be precise and concise about your dreams, and align them with the company vision.

Key takeaways

Winning at your job application game starts with a clear and concise logistics coordinator cover letter that:

  • Has single-spaced paragraphs, is wrapped in a one-inch margin, and uses the same font as the logistics coordinator resume;
  • Is personalized to the recruiter (using their name in the greeting) and the role (focusing on your one key achievement that answers job requirements);
  • Includes an introduction that helps you stand out and show what value you'd bring to the company;
  • Substitutes your lack of experience with an outside-of-work success, that has taught you valuable skills;
  • Ends with a call for follow-up or hints at how you'd improve the organization, team, or role.

How to write a Graduate cover letter

Here’s how to write your own winning Graduate cover letter

How to write a cover letter

Write your cover letter in the body of an email/message

When writing your Graduate cover letter, it’s best to type the content into the body of your email (or the job site messaging system) and not to attach the cover letter as a separate document.

This ensures that your cover letter gets seen as soon as a recruiter or employer opens your message.

If you attach the cover letter as a document, you’re making the reader go through an unnecessary step of opening the document before reading it.

If it’s in the body of the message itself, it will be seen instantly, which hugely increases the chances of it being read.

Write cover letter in body of email

Start with a friendly greeting

Cover letter address

To kick your cover letter off, start with a friendly greeting to build rapport with the recruiter instantly.

Your greeting should be personable but professional. Not too casual, but not too formal either

Go with something like…

  • Hi [insert recruiter name]
  • Hi [insert department/team name]

Avoid old-fashioned greetings like “Dear sir/madam ” unless applying to very formal companies.

How to find the contact’s name?

Addressing the recruitment contact by name is an excellent way to start building a strong relationship. If it is not listed in the job advert, try these methods to find it.

  • Check out the company website and look at their  About page. If you see a hiring manager, HR person or internal recruiter, use their name. You could also try to figure out who would be your manager in the role and use their name.
  • Head to LinkedIn , search for the company and scan through the list of employees. Most professionals are on LinkedIn these days, so this is a good bet.

Identify the role you are applying for

Once you’ve opened up the cover letter with a warm greeting to start building a relationship, it is time to identify which role you want to apply for.

Recruiters are often managing multiple vacancies, so you need to ensure you apply to the correct one.

Be very specific and use a reference number if you can find one.

  • I am interested in applying for the position of *Graduate position* with your company.
  • I would like to apply for the role of Sales assistant (Ref: 406f57393)
  • I would like to express my interest in the customer service vacancy within your retail department
  • I saw your advert for a junior project manager on Reed and would like to apply for the role.

Highlight your suitability

The sole objective of your cover letter is to motivate recruiters into to opening your CV. And you achieve this by quickly explaining your suitability to the roles you are applying for.

Take a look at the job descriptions you are applying to, and make note of the most important skills and qualifications being asked for.

Then, when crafting your cover letter, make your suitability the central focus.

Explain why you are the best qualified candidate, and why you are so well suited to carry out the job.

This will give recruiters all the encouragement they need to open your CV and consider you for the job.

Cover letter tips

Keep it short and sharp

A good cover letter is short and sharp, getting to the point quickly with just enough information to grab the attention of recruiters.

Ideally your cover letter should be around 4-8 sentences long – anything longer will risk losing the attention of time-strapped recruiters and hiring managers .

Essentially you need to include just enough information to persuade the reader to open up your CV, where the in-depth details will sit.

Sign off professionally

To round of your CV, you should sign off with a professional signature.

This will give your cover letter a slick appearance and also give the recruiter all of the necessary contact information they need to get in touch with you.

The information to add should include:

  • A friendly sign off – e.g. “Kindest regards”
  • Your full name
  • Phone number (one you can answer quickly)
  • Email address
  • Profession title
  • Professional social network –  e.g. LinkedIn

Here is an example signature;

What to include in your Graduate cover letter

Here’s what kind of content you should include in your Graduate cover letter…

The exact info will obviously depend on your industry and experience level, but these are the essentials.

  • Your relevant experience – Where have you worked and what type of jobs have you held?
  • Your qualifications – Let recruiters know about your highest level of qualification to show them you have the credentials for the job.
  • The impact you have made – Show how your actions have made a positive impact on previous employers; perhaps you’ve saved them money or helped them to acquire new customers?
  • Your reasons for moving – Hiring managers will want to know why you are leaving your current or previous role, so give them a brief explanation.
  • Your availability – When can you start a new job ? Recruiters will want to know how soon they can get you on board.

Don’t forget to tailor these points to the requirements of the job advert for best results.
