Fort Worth ISD parents won’t have to buy school supplies for their elementary students.
The school district told parents about the change through a newsletter from the superintendent .
The district previously announced it would not provide school supplies for elementary students for the 2024-2025 year. Fort Worth ISD used one-time federal pandemic relief dollars to fund the supplies for the past three years.
“I am delighted to share that through the hard work of our incredible FWISD team, the district was able to identify resources to provide free school supplies to all elementary students as we have in previous years,” Superintendent Angélica Ramsey said.
In an email, spokesperson Cesar Padilla did not detail the funding source nor the cost of the supplies.
For the 2023-24 school year, Fort Worth ISD spent more than $2.1 million on the initiative.
Padilla previously told the Fort Worth Report that the district planned to work with third-party organizations to provide resources for students when school resumes in August.
“We understand that every family has unique needs, and in FWISD, we are dedicated to ensuring that no child goes without the necessary supplies,” Padilla previously said.
Fort Worth ISD received more than $407 million in federal relief funds. The one-time funds expire Sept. 30, leaving districts across the state to determine how they will balance their budgets without millions of dollars in additional federal funding.
The 2024-25 school year begins Aug. 13.
