We deliver the final outputs along with the project files and all the additional assets via Dropbox. Dropbox allows commenting on timestamps on the video which eases the revision process.

What are your work hours?

Tuesday – Saturday 8am-5pm Philippine time GMT +8. This allows us to respond to video editing work requests each workday evening for our US clients because our editing team is in the future!

Do you do free trials?

Unfortunately no , we don’t do free trials of our editing services as it does take some time for our editors to understand your video production needs and editing style.

What types of videos can you guys edit?

We can edit any kind of online video from Facebook ads, instagram videos, to our speciality, YouTube videos. We also edit commercials, real estate videos, and online course videos. We do have limitations though and they are:

– The finished video can’t be longer than 15 minutes

– We can’t do voice overs.

– We can’t create 2D and 3D animations.

– Subtitles do cost extra ($95/month for all plans)

What is the turnaround time?

Our turnaround time is 1 – 2 Days and our revisions are 1 business day. But if your project is complex we might ask for additional hours.

How many videos can I really get for the Unlimited Chops plan?

The short answer is…depending on your video request frequency and revision request frequency you can get 8-12 videos back a month! Let me explain…Our editors are super fast. We offer a 2 business days turnaround time and we will work on one video of yours at a time. When we finish that video we start on the next one. Feel free to upload 4, 5, 6 videos to us at a time. We’ll build a queue and start editing the first video in the queue.

How do I upload the footage to you?

You will get free storage up to 100GB with us. All you need is a free Google email account.

After you signup, we will share a dedicated folder with you.

Your shared folder will have a few folders in it. One folder is called “Raw Footage.” Anytime you want to make a request simply create a NEW folder inside that folder. Title that new folder with the date and just backdate each if needed. Then place your video files in there. If you have B-roll simply create a B-roll folder and so on and so on. Just be organized, that’s all.

How does the whole process work?

After payment, you will be redirected to create an account on our client – editor portal. There you just need to complete your profile that includes a few questions about your brand and style of video. We will then match you with your editor within 8 hours and send you a welcome email with a shared Google drive folder link where you can upload to. You’re all setup and from on just…

Follow three simple steps here.

1. Upload your videos to a dedicated Google drive.

2. Complete your video request from inside of Portal. Your dedicated Editor will take that card from there and you will see it going from different phases of editing, Assign → Editing → Quality check → Submission.

As soon as our editor is done with your video, you will get an email from our system with a download link to the video. There you can ask for any revisions you’d like using a timestamping comment system.

How will we communicate to ensure the work gets done?

You will have direct access to your editor through email. The more seamless way to communicate is through The Vidchops Portal. Once you make your purchase, you’ll automatically be redirected to a form where you will create an account to our Portal where you can request video edits and collaborate with your editor through comments. You’ll also receive an email from your editor within 24 hours of signing up. Like I said, you can always communicate with them through simple email too. Portal is a simple project management tool that will enable you to:

– Submit video editing requests.

– Provide feedback on the card through description to your editor.

– Obtain a video link to download it from Dropbox.

– If you want any revisions you can just make a timestamped comment in the portal, 🙂. Your editor will read those revision comments and will make changes accordingly.

Do you guys color grade videos?

Yes, we do color grade but this is basic color grading. We can tone your footage, fix basic white balance problems, exposure problems etc. But we will not go into masking and more complex gradings. Our clients love how we color grade their stuff though, they tell us in testimonials!

Can you provide closed captions for videos?

Closed captions are included in both the VidChops Weekly and VidChops Pro plans. Please note, this is for repurposed shorts only and not long form YouTube videos.

Can you add B-roll and music to my video?

Yes we can. We can include your B-roll or we can add b roll from our stock footage library. All you have to do is request it. We also have access to a large royalty-free music library. That is also included in each of our plans.

Is there a limit on raw video and finished video length?

Yes, You can upload 60 min of raw footage and the video deliverables can’t be over 20 minutes long except under special circumstances.

File size in total per order must also not exceed more than 40GB.

Which software do your editors work on?

Our editors work on FCPX and Premier Pro. This is another thing that separates us from our copycats and allows us to include way better CTA’s, callouts, and other animations.

Would you be able to follow my current video template?

Your dedicated editor will follow all you branding guidelines and will make sure to make your videos better than your current ones.

Do you have an affiliate program.

When you say you don’t do animation what does that mean?

It means no complex 2D and 3D animations from scratch. We can’t create the footage for your project from scratch. We will provide text animations and calls to action.

Can you resize video for other social media channels?

So this is how it works. We will edit your video in standard 16:9 format. Once you approve the video, we will realize that video to the other two social media channels of you liking without any additional cost. For example Instagram feed video 1.1 and instagram story 9:16. Depending on what you want this may take another 24 hours for these separate versions.

How do you know how to edit my videos to my liking?

Our editors train our editors on how to do this and it’s really our secret sauce. We know you only want the clips where you look your best and that’s exactly what we’re going to include. This objective eye helps to improve the quality of your final videos. We also ask you all the right questions in your on-boarding process to learn what you’re looking for and then we will take that and improve upon it. Remember, we offer unlimited revisions as well so if there is ever a small change you want to be made we can do that.

Andrew Lawton

Producer/director.

Award-winning filmmaker Andrew Lawton (PGA) hails from Melbourne, Australia, and has spent the past twenty years working with many of the biggest names in the industry. Most recently, he directed Neil Patrick Harris, Liam Neeson, Helen Mirren and Alec Baldwin in ‘A Roundabout Road to Broadway’ for NBC.  This special won Andrew a Telly Award, AVA Digital Gold Award, Hermes Creative Gold Award, Creativity International Gold Award, and the Marcom Platinum Award.  He followed by directing Jane Krakowski in ‘From Basements to Broadway’, Vanessa Williams in ‘Thriving Through Theatre’, and co-producing the feature documentary “Vigilante” with Cinema 59 productions. Andrew is the writer/director of the films ‘Couch Surfer’, ‘Rain’, ‘Some Guy Called Toby’ and ‘Have You Seen Calvin?’, the latter winning Best Film at the 2016 Chicago Comedy Film Festival. He has also directed numerous commercials and a series of music videos for Universal Music Group.

Editor/animator.

A graduate of The University of Washington’s DXARTs program, Jenn is an accomplished animator and video editor.  She has designed and animated ad campaigns, marketing content, event branding, storybooks, and even interactive museum exhibits!  With Kinetic Studios, Jenn has animated the NYC Department of Health’s “Back to Work” vaccine campaign, plus a series of videos for Atlas Air.  Most recently she has been working with Peacock on Gabby’s Dollhouse content. During her free time, she is either learning new motion design skills, getting more involved in the independent film scene, or at the whims of her needy german shepherd.

NATHAN SHERRER

Production crew.

Hailing from Florida, Nathan Sherrer is based in Brooklyn and graduated from The King’s College in 2014 with a Bachelor’s degree in Media, Culture, and the Arts.  Recent Kinetic Studios productions include a new campaign for the NYC Department of Health plus a film for the Jewish Community Relations Council.

Outside of Kinetic, he has lent his skills and support to a variety of productions in visual mediums, assisting with photoshoots, film sets, interviews, and live events. He also edits videos as a hobby.  A recent project involved him producing and editing internet sketches for the comedy group Young Unprofessionals, a group he also contributes to as both a writer and an actor.  His skills, understanding, and awareness grows a little more with each project but, at the end of the day, he’s just a soul who’s intentions are good. Oh Lord, please don’t let him be misunderstood.

Independently, she’s well-versed in shooting/editing short films and promotional content for brands as well as social media. Graduating from SUNY Cortland in 2017 with a BA in Media Production, she continues to grow.

Angie Brayman is an award-winning creative editor hailing from metro Detroit. A graduate of the Specs Howard School of Broadcast & Media Arts, she’s passionate about social issues, comedy and television (not necessarily all at once) and collaborates on as many of those projects as she can. A few of her favorites have been editing multiple webisodes for ADAPT Community Network, cutting the featurette for the film “A Girl Like Her” airing on Netflix and the online short film documenting the rise of the Downtown Youth Boxing Gym in Detroit.

When she’s not editing, Angie can be found onstage as an improviser with ComedySportz and on the ice as a player and board member with one of the country’s largest women’s hockey leagues. Her claim to fame is having Jimmy Fallon read her name along with her submission during a “Screengrabs” segment on The Tonight Show.

Opinion | Gannett fired an editor for talking to me

Sarah Leach spoke to Poynter in an attempt to staff up her team. She may have been successful, even if she won't be at Gannett to see it through.

Sarah Leach, an experienced editor overseeing 26 Gannett community papers in four states, was fired via video conference first thing the morning of Monday, April 29. She was accused, she said, of “sharing proprietary information with (a reporter for) a competing media company.”

The reporter in question was me.

Her boss, Silas Lyons, next asked, “How do you respond?” Leach recalled. Then he added, “We have documentary evidence you have been communicating with Poynter.” No performance issues were raised. Since the dismissal was for cause, after 13 years of service, Leach was offered no severance.

Lyons’ bill of indictment was half right. Leach and I met five years ago at a Poynter seminar and have stayed in touch since. She did email me March 29, saying, “Things are a lot worse than people realize, and I’m hoping people are telling you about it. … I can’t speak on the record, but I’ll tell you what I know.” The rest of our interchanges were by phone or through her private email.

Lyons did not say how the company identified her as a source. As best Leach and I can figure, they must have tapped into her office email. “That’s the only way I can think of that they could have known,” she said.

The firing took place while I was still reporting the story, two days before Poynter published it. Leach published her own statement Thursday afternoon.

Back to the facts in a moment. But as both a participant and chronicler, I do have an opinion of what happened.

Outrageous! Gannett is a news company, not a widget factory, though it often does seem to be run like a widget factory. Gannett employs several thousand journalists who go to work every day in pursuit of stories, some of them based on insider tips and information. To pillory a successful and basically loyal editor because she raised an issue mildly embarrassing to the company…? Gannett’s top management extols itself for its commitment to excellent journalism while deploying espionage on its own employees? What a bunch of phonies.

Leach’s take: “They seem to be more interested in controlling their outward image than listening to their own people.”

Lyons declined to comment, as did spokesperson Lark-Marie Antón, who said the company does not discuss personnel matters.

Leach’s tip and my story concerned a ballyhooed initiative to revitalize Gannett’s small community papers like the one Leach had edited for years in Holland, Michigan.

The centerpiece, known internally as I-30, was to hire at least 30 new reporters for outlets that had only one or none who were locally based. However, just as it was getting rolling, the initiative was suspended in November. Then Lyons told 17 editors at the end of March that the “pause” (his wording) would extend through the second quarter.

Meanwhile, chief content officer Kristin Roberts continued to brag about I-30’s success as recently as February, three months into the pause, in an earnings call with analysts and a webcast.

Leach has been promoted several times during the five years I’ve known her. Still based in Holland, she oversaw The Holland Sentinel there and 25 more papers in Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota and South Dakota. The pause was a bitter pill to her and the editors who reported to her, as they had been scrambling for years to cover multiple outlets with ever-shrinking staff. When the promise of fresh resources was postponed indefinitely, she said, that extended a management nightmare. She hoped that a story on it would goad her superiors into action.

I spoke with Leach minutes after her firing. Though shell-shocked, she already had a firm fix on the situation. “I took a chance, and I got caught,” she told me. “It seemed important to reveal what was going on.”

Leach is a single mom of three. Because of her family situation, she said, she cannot leave Holland for a job elsewhere. The sudden loss of income was alarming.

She turned quickly to patching together work and found immediate encouragement. Two newspapers (including The Detroit News) and a TV station have expressed interest in employing her to cover Western Michigan. “I’m going to be able to pay my mortgage,” she told me this week.

This had been an especially good year for Leach professionally. She chose herself to cover a big local story as a new right-wing group of county commissioners took control and began dismantling the government — starting with the local health department.

The stories were forceful enough that her predecessor as Holland Sentinel editor and another citizen nominated her for a Pulitzer Prize in local reporting. Also, The Washington Post jumped in with long stories , seeing a Middle America case in point of MAGA stalwarts in action at the local level.

With her Post connection, Leach was hired to cover the Michigan leg of a three-city series of Trump rallies May 2. She shared a quadruple byline three days after being fired.

There is one other oddity in the sequence of events. Leach had a conference call, scheduled before I began work on the story, with Michael Anastasi, who oversees all of Gannett’s 200-plus regional papers (USA Today has a separate structure). “I had never had that kind of one-on-one conversation with him,” she said.

As it happened, the call took place the Friday before she was let go. It was a pleasant how-are-you-doing chat, she said, that allowed her to make her pitch for more staffing.

She gleaned from talking to Anastasi and then to former colleagues after she left that while the promised I-30 hires remain on hold, permission to fill several other positions had just been approved.

That was a relief. “It’s not The New York Times.” she said, “but I’ve dedicated most of my career to community journalism — they need to be served too.” Her choice to raise a fuss seems to have achieved at least part of her objective. But Leach won’t be around at Gannett for the next chapters.
