How to Find Your Flight Confirmation Number

A confirmation number is a combination of numbers and letters you receive when you book a flight. You need this number if you want to change your itinerary, have questions about your reservation or need to check in. There are several ways to find this booking confirmation number.

Airline Customer Service

Most airlines have a customer portal on their websites where you can see your upcoming and previous reservations, check the status of your rewards account book and check in for your flight. If you look at your upcoming reservation, you should find your confirmation number listed there. You also can call the airline and speak to a representative about your reservation. The agent can locate your confirmation number and provide it to you over the phone.

Printed Receipt

When you book your flight directly through the airline’s website, you receive a receipt that you can print for your records. This receipt should have a copy of your confirmation number printed on it as long as the airline issues the number immediately when you book the flight. In some cases, airlines wait until they process the payment for flight before assigning the confirmation number. If the airline has an airport kiosk, you also may be able to print the receipt there if you don’t have access to a printer at home.

Email Itinerary

Whether you book through the airline or a travel site, you receive an email from the company with your travel information. This email has the confirmation number listed in it. Sometimes the subject line of the email lists the confirmation number, which makes it easy to locate. You can print this or save a screen shot on your smartphone for easy access if you need to refer to the number later.

Boarding Pass

You can print your boarding pass from the airline’s website to save time during check in by avoiding long lines at the airport. The confirmation number should be listed on the boarding pass along with the gate for your flight and the time you need to report there for boarding. If you’re near the airport or arrived early for check in, you can print the boarding pass from the airline’s kiosk or ticket counter.

Documentation from Travel Agent

If you book a flight through a travel agent, the agent mails a packet or sends an email with all of the information you need about your flight. This includes your confirmation number for your flight, hotel and excursions. You can also call the travel agency to request your confirmation number from an agent.
