A company profile introduces a business's mission, goals, vision, and history. In most cases, a profile includes an 'About Us' section that narrates how the company was founded and its whys, and a section that introduces leadership team members.

A company profile serves multiple purposes, but two of its primary goals are to connect with customers and attract investors for funding opportunities.

Whether this is done in the form of a timeline or paragraphs is entirely up to you. What’s critical is to make sure that it flows and that it makes sense to the reader.

When doing so, it’s essential not to get bogged down by too many details. Instead, you should list key achievements to show how your company got to where it is today. If you’re a small business, you can write information about the establishment and development of the brand.

Here’s the crux: A company profile is just like other kinds of business writing. If you want it to get attention, lead with what’s in it for others when they do business with you.

Think back to your company’s one sentence branding statement. In other words, how do you finish the sentence: “We help [X] to [Y] ...?”

You rarely go wrong by making this the very first sentence of your company profile.

It cuts through the clutter and hooks those who might be your next ideal customer, partner, or employee – and, after all, that’s who you’re really writing to. Isn’t it?

Add Your Value Statement.

Now that the reader is acquainted with what you do, it’s time to delve into how you do it. When cost and features don’t quite differentiate one vendor from another, decision-makers look for values that resonate with them.

Here, you can include things like your vision for corporate responsibility or some community organizations you’ve worked with.

Just remember that this shouldn’t be an exhaustive list, just enough to pique curiosity and show you are thinking about the subject.

It’s a weird quirk of human nature any experienced marketer has seen time and time again: People usually won’t take the next step, even if they know exactly what it is, unless you ask them.

A CTA within a company profile should be evergreen and not refer to any specific offer.

Even something as simple as “Visit our website” or “Contact us for more details” can suffice here. Here's an example of a simple button CTA that you could use:

Should a Profile Have Information About Recent Product Launches or Other Fresh News?

What is a Company Profile?

Simply put,   your  company profile   is a professional introduction and aims to inform people (primarily prospective buyers and stakeholders) about your products, services, and current status. A well-written company profile helps your company position itself relative to the market. 

What makes you different than the other guy?

This is the question on everyone's mind — potential buyer, job applicant, or investor — when they hear about your business for the first time. 

So, what's your answer? What's your elevator pitch of differentiation? 

This is why you have a company profile page on your website. It's your chance to tell your story with a little more depth than you would on your homepage. But this is easier said than done. Do you go bold and risk alienating some visitors — or do you do you play it safe and risk coming off as bland and, even worse, forgettable ?

As marketing coaches and web designers, we've seen a fair number of these projects . Below, we've pulled together some examples to inspire your own company profile page, along with a brief description of what makes us like each one. 

What is a company profile, and how is it different from an 'about us' page?

Your company profile   is a professional introduction and aims to provide people with an overview of your business. It might cover:

  • Your history
  • Your mission or core values
  • The future of your company
  • An overview of products and services.

In general, your company profile tends to be a bit more formal than an "About Us" page.

Your About Us page might contain some of the same information, but it tends to be less reserved. It will often include employee headshots and bios , and maybe some customer testimonials or other details. 

Depending on your needs, you may have one or the other, or you may have both. Or, you may use the terms interchangeably. 

In any case, below are 10 examples to help you create your own. 

1. ClickUp : Shaking things up

ClickUp-values

ClickUp is a project management platform with a simple motto: Save one day of work each week. If teams are stuck using cumbersome tools, they spend less time working. 

This break-free mentality is all over ClickUp's about page, which is splashed in bright colors, with pictures of the people who make the company run, but it's less headshots and more company get-togethers. 

The focus here is on core values that make ClickUp different from everybody else out there. 

2. Brooks Running : Changing the world

Brooks-Running

For those who are serious about it, running isn't an exercise, it's an identity. Brooks Running feels less like a brand and more like an affinity group for those who are in the know. Taglines like "Running is a gift" and "The run is who we are" deeply connect the product to the person and the experience. 

Although Brooks mostly sells sneakers, they also offer a running club that furthers the idea of community. 

3. Neumann Monson Architects : Your trusted partner

Iowa-based architects Neumann Monson know that trust has to be at the core of every business relationship . If you're an organization contracting NMA to take a project from blueprint to building, you need to know you're dealing with a firm that keeps its promises. 

NMA's "Who we are" page includes photos, videos, and well-chosen language to convey to the world the values they hold dear. 

In an unhurried two minutes, this video describes the core values of the firm.

4. Starbucks : Serving up human connection

Starbucks has long positioned itself as the  third place in people's lives — not home, not work, but a third place that offers pieces of each of the other two: connection, creativity, and comfort. 

It's no surprise, then, that its mission plays so prominently on its website, with colorful imagery behind it. You can look elsewhere and find the company's history. Here, the focus is on the visitor who enters a Starbucks and encounters community. 

At least, that's the idea. 

5. Renaissance : Seeing every student

See-every-student

Ed-tech company Renaissance misses a chance to get more milage out of its great tagline: "See Every Student." I would love to see that messaging moved down to the hero section, swapped out with the "global leader" sub head.

Still, there's a lot to like about this mission-driven business that seeks to improve student outcomes by helping teachers. 

Renaissance leans heavily on its history and success to tell a compelling story. "Since 1986..." and "more than 40% of U.S. schools..." remind visitors that this brand is trusted by thousands of districts — a reputation they're built over time.

This makes an interesting contrast to our first example, ClickUp, which lets its young history support its position as a rule-breaker. 

6. goodr Sunglasses : Great vibes, great glasses

What's not to like about a fun-loving company with an admirable mission? Here, sunglass maker goodr gives the story behind its flat-rate $25 sunglasses. We get a clear sense of company culture from the images used, the playful names of different models, and this quick snippet that explains the company's history in just a few sentences:

7. Chewy : Making pet parenting easier

Pet-supply brand Chewy has always been praised for its customer service. In Chewy's mind, pets come first. 

(I remember once getting a big delivery of cat food that was sent to the former owner of our house. I called Chewy's customer service line to find out about returning it. They asked that I donate it to a shelter or give to a friend with a cat.)

Chewy's profile page reminds us, very simply, of the joy that pets bring to our lives. The company's mission is to make pet ownership easier so that we can keep our furry friends healthy and happy. 

8. Align : Helping teams succeed

Align is a team management platform that keeps tasks and priorities on track. In its About Us page, Align makes it clear that the priority is transparency and success. By starting its page with "We believe...", the company puts its principles front and center.

9. Zappos : Growing beyond your roots

Zappos

If you don't shop there regularly, you might think of Zappos as just an online shoe warehouse. But the company has expanded, explaining that it was never about shoes — it was always about delivering WOW for the customers. 

Today, the company sells clothing and other items, and its About Us page predicts more expansion in the future, as long as that growth aligns with the company's 10 core values.

10. HubSpot : Helping millions grow better

HubSpot

Business software firm HubSpot offers a counterbalance to the traditional business growth strategy. By saying "We believe businesses can grow with a conscience, and succeed with a soul," co-founders Brian and Darmesh set their business apart.

And, considering that HubSpot's software helps thousands of businesses around the world "grow better", this page sends a clear message that growth does not have to be ruthless. 

Tell your story

Your About Us of Company Profile pages aren't going to be the first one your visitors seek out, but they are important differentiators, especially in a crowded marketplace. Many buyers will want to get to know your brand and your people to know who they'll be dealing with. 

Plus,  81% of consumers say they need to trust brands to do what's right, and, as we saw in the examples above, core values figure prominently in many Company Profile pages.

How To Write The Perfect Company Profile [w/ Free Template]

Writing a company profile can be a challenging task no matter how you look at it. On one hand you could just bang one out in 15 or 20 minutes, whereas on the other, you could take several hours crafting a company profile which resonates with your target audience and helps to build trust and confidence for a potential future purchase.

To help in this regard, we thought it would be useful if we sketched out a quick guide to writing the perfect company profile. We’ve been writing company profiles for over 25 years now so this guide draws on our experiences and tries to put some structure around it.

Why Do You Need A Company Profile?

Before we get started you may be asking why do you actually need a company profile in the first place? In our experience, whether you are responsible for marketing a tech business, a law firm or in fact any type of business, you will inevitably be asked to draft a company profile. It could be to accompany a recent sponsorship, a profile in a directory or perhaps a tender submission. If you are reading this and currently trying to write a great “About Us” page for your website, this guide will also be helpful and provide a useful structure for your web page.

No matter your reason, follow these tried and test techniques and your company profile will be transformed from a boring piece of text into a useful profile which resonates with your audience, gets your key messages across and attempts to convert this one-way communication into potential leads for your business.

The Key Components Of A Great Company Profile

1. introduction.

This is the most important element of your company profile as it needs to interest and engage the reader and make them want to read on. Get this wrong and you will switch them off and they will never get to all that great information you have to tell.

Unfortunately, owing to the importance of a great introduction too many firms make the mistake of jumping in too quickly and start screaming about how wonderful they are. It’s too me, me, me and unfortunately this has the opposite effect and tends to switch people off rather than excite them. There aren’t too many people who want to read a document which is all about someone boasting about how great they are. Of course you want someone to think your firm is great having read your profile but it doesn’t mean you have to be so explicit about it.

  • Stop beating your corporate chest and start thinking about who your audience is and what the issues and challenges are that you help them to solve.

Begin the company profile by calling out your audience’s needs and outline how you strive to solve their pains and you will be well on your way to a winning company profile.

A great way to introduce a company profile is to start with your company’s mission and outline what it is you are striving to achieve. Calling out your audience in this way and outlining how your ultimate goal is to find ways to provide the right solutions in this particular area and discussing how your firm addresses their pains is a much better approach that simply saying you are the leading x, y and z.

A few other areas you may want to consider adding to the introduction section of your profile include:

2. What You Do

Having used the introduction to call out your audience and outline your reason for being, your company profile should now move on to the specifics of what you do. Don’t simply list all your services as this doesn’t add much value for the reader. Look at your audience for this specific profile and the services they need. Do they need to know absolutely every single thing you do or would a shorter list categorising what you do with a few supporting lines of a description add more value? Take your top 3, 4, 5 or even 6 main areas of business. Choose an image or an icon to help portray them visually and then write a few lines (say 4 or 5) to describe what the service is and how it helps your audience.

3. How You Do It

The third section of your company profile should delve into your approach to business and how you go about things. What makes your firm special? Why would someone want to do business with your firm? The purpose of this section should be to differentiate your business from the competition so explain how you go to market. Understandably, a lot of people will start to write about how wonderful their client service is as this is such an easy thing to say. The trouble is that everyone does this so to make it real try and back it up with some facts.

What about third party sources of information? In the legal industry, guides such as the Legal 500, provide a useful commentary on the market and tier the top firms across the country for each of the main areas of law. Alternatively, has your business won any awards or been nominated for a community award in recent years?

4. Who You Do It For

Now that you have introduced your firm, what you do and your overall approach to business, it is important to bring in some "social proof" . On the other hand, if you want to attract customers, it’s best to add the company values to your profile.

The purpose of a company profile should act as your guide throughout the process, so take your time on it.

3. Decide on the format or style.

Have you ever clicked off a page because its format or style was too jarring or difficult to navigate? If so, you know first-hand how important the proper style and format is to a company profile.

When designing your profile, consider your audience. For example, it‘s best to stick to the traditional format for an accounting firm. That is, list the company’s achievements and awards.

On the other hand, if you’re in a fashion or social media marketing firm, you should be creative and visual.

I love the homepage for Dept, a marketing technology company with an innovative and visual homepage that aligns with its offers and shows off its creativity.

Don’t be afraid to experiment or go wild with your ideas as long as they resonate with your target audience.

4. Tell your story & be authentic.

A million other businesses sell what you‘re selling, but no one else shares your story. Your story is what makes you unique. Don’t just write numbers and dates; let your prospects know who you are.

Be vulnerable and tell them why you started your business.

For example, one of my favorite brands, Thursday, is very candid about why it started selling boots. Thursday’s profile says:

“Thursday was built out of our own frustration. Clunky work boots or delicate fashion boots? Cheap shoes that fall apart after a few wears, or incredibly overpriced shoes? It didn’t seem right that we had to make these trade-offs. There had to be another option.”

What inspired you? Share the bad and the good – it mustn’t be glamorous. It only has to be authentic.

5. Add your company’s mission statement.

If you don’t have a mission statement , it‘s time to craft one. Writing a mission statement for your company isn’t as scary as it sounds, and there is no need to overthink it.

When crafting a mission statement, I think about these three questions:

Who you serve – your target consumer How do you do it – what product or service do you provide to solve their problems? What makes you different – why should your consumers buy from you or trust you over your competitors?

Let your answers guide your statement.

6. Write your company’s history.

Growing up, I always thought history was boring — but that‘s not always the case regarding a company’s history. As I said, every company has a unique story, and detailing your rich history is a great way to stand out.

Just ensure you recount your story chronologically; otherwise, it will confuse your readers. You can do it in a paragraph or a timeline format if it shows a flow.

Another tip is to remember that less can be more. As tempting as it is to share all your milestones, stick to the major ones to avoid overwhelming the reader.

7. Describe the products and services you offer.

The next step is to describe what your company offers. You can choose a few of your best products or services and give an in-depth description or simply list everything your business offers.

8. Name the awards your company has received.

If you have received any awards or recognition, add them to your profile and describe them. They showcase your company’s values and give the community a reason to trust you.

9. Add your customer’s testimonials.

Your customers may take everything you say with a grain of salt, but they will believe other customers who have used your products. This is an excellent way to promote your business without having your products or services come off as hard-sell.

If you‘re a B2C business, simply include some of your customer’s best quotes tied with your best value products. If you’re a B2B business, have a testimonial from the most prominent client on your profile.

Hedley & Bennett , a restaurant wear company, features customer reviews and testimonials on its homepage.

10. Include a call to action.

While not mandatory, I strongly suggest a call to action because it can only help. It can urge people to book an appointment, make a purchase, etc.

Think about what you want the readers to do after reading the profile — visit your branch, check out your website, or call you? Simply include it at the end of your profile. This brings us to our last step.

Pro Tip : If you’re using our CMS, dropping in a personalized CTA is easy.

11. Add your company’s contact information.

Okay, so you bared your company‘s soul via your company profile, and readers have more enthusiasm for your business and want to work with you — now what?

Well, the next step would be to contact you, but they can’t do that if your information isn’t easy to spot.

Include in your profile all the possible ways your prospects can reach you. This may include but is not limited to social media profiles, websites, phone numbers, fax, email, and physical address.

Make sure it’s visible to anyone who reads your company profile.

1. starbucks.

Starbucks’ company profile has it all — its mission, background story, products, store atmosphere, and even folklore regarding the name. Best of all, they manage to pull off sounding genuine and grandiose.

I don’t know many other coffee stores that could claim that their mission is “to inspire and nurture the human spirit.”

Starbucks’ company profile is a fantastic example of a store with a common household product: coffee. Starbucks managed to stand out from the competition through its mission and values.

2. Wales Bonner

If your company has an exciting and intellectual history, you might consider creating a profile like Wales Bonner’s.

It begins with an impactful statement:

“Wales Bonner proposes a distinct notion of cultural luxury that infuses European heritage with an Afro-Atlantic spirit. Launched by Grace Wales Bonner following her graduation from Central Saint Martins in 2014, the label is informed by broad cultural research and embraces a multiplicity of perspectives.”

After sharing the brand’s intellectual background, it describes the owner’s journey in building the company, starting from when she was a college student, as well as the accolades she has received through her ingenuity in design.

With a good balance of image and text, the timeline serves as a reminder of Wales Bonner’s stability and growth.

3. Diehl Group Architects

Look at Diehl Group Architects’ company profile for both cleanliness and ease of use.

The web page uses clickable boxes to separate topics, allowing users to choose which subject to learn more about. Additionally, the entire design mirrors the company‘s purpose, including the page’s background, which displays a floor plan.

4. Bloomberg

Consumers use video as an integral part of their journey with brands, so you might consider using a compelling video to convey your company’s story as Bloomberg does in its company profile.

Bloomberg‘s profile proves the company knows its audience because it offers quick statistics and links to other site areas, such as Careers and Tech. While other businesses might do well in providing a creative, long-form story, Bloomberg’s typical demographic is likely more analytical.

You can instantly understand Nike’s two primary purposes — fitness, people, and inclusion.

When you land on its website, you’re greeted by a bold statement: “Bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete* in the world.”

The asterisk implies, “If you have a body, you are an athlete.” As you scroll, you’ll see information on its internal diversity and inclusion initiative, global community impact, and sustainable business program, with very little mention of its products.

Nike’s company profile portrays a larger, grander vision, compelling an audience to believe in its brand before purchasing a product.

6. Seattle Cider

Seattle Cider Company‘s profile is minimal and engages viewers through compelling animations that demonstrate the company’s cider selection.

The page flows seamlessly and provides critical information regarding the product before displaying the company’s mission and values.

This profile is an excellent example of a company that understands its users’ concerns (in this case, quality ingredients) and addresses those issues while still displaying personality and flair.

Delta‘s page is well-organized by topic and showcases the company’s values, including efforts to engage with the community and promote sustainability.

It includes brief meta-descriptions below each category, and the design allows users to click through to learn more. Delta’s company profile is simple and uncluttered but includes all the necessary information to demonstrate its uniqueness.

8. Roam Loud

Roam Loud’s company profile is a great example and inspiration for any brand with a personal story.

It’s simple yet effective, starting with a friendly greeting, “Hey there!” and ending with a list of values. In between, the founder clearly states why she created her brand and why its existence is important to her and prospective buyers.

9. MAD Architects

MAD Architects‘ company profile is an excellent example of simplicity and informativeness. The profile isn’t shy about the firm’s accomplishments and lets readers dive deeper into the firm’s exhibitions, lectures, awards, and publications, all visible on different tabs on the same page.

By leaning into a strong brand voice and giving details about its service, customers have the information they need to decide for themselves.

If your business is a leader in your field, consider creating one similar to MAD Architects.

10. Topicals

Topicals is a skincare company that provides products and education to help people target and learn about flare-ups. It has a one-of-a-kind about us page that is interactive and provides a fun experience for site visitors.

When you land on the page, you immediately see multiple interactive cards, the first of which describes its mission.

Once you’re done reading about its purpose, you can learn more about the company by clicking on the other cards or simply selecting the information that is most relevant to your needs.

Examples of Company Descriptions

Here are some examples of company descriptions that enhance their organizations’ company profile.

On HubSpot‘s profile page, you’ll find a brief description of the company’s mission and what it does. In just a few words, HubSpot explains that the company’s goal is to help businesses grow through its specialized inbound software.

2. H&H Wealth

On the “Why Zaneilia” page of its website, the founder of H&H Wealth briefly introduces what she believes in and encourages her customers to walk the journey with her.

She also makes a promise to her clients, setting expectations and the tone for the service she’ll deliver, helping her and her business come across as a partner rather than a vendor.

3. Dope Coffee

Dope Coffee aims to bridge the gap between coffee, hip hop, and culture to uplift the Black community. Its website describes the company’s history and mission.

Still, a single line sticks out as a powerful and impactful description of its business to take inspiration from: “We are Dope Coffee Company, and we are changing the world one cup of coffee at a time.”

4. Authentique Agency

Authentique Agency provides the perfect amount of information upfront to describe what it is and its mission and values — leveraging the power of identity in brand campaigns that reflect cultural identities rather than erasing them.

I also love the use if the term “ code switching ,” which is a term women of color like myself know too well. This shows Authentique Agency understands and relates to its audience.

It’s a great example of how to quickly and succinctly convey your message to site visitors.

The Cru is a service that connects members with like-minded women to fuel personal and professional growth. It uses an “Our Story” page as a company profile, where the founder details how she formed the organization and how she owns “Cru” (a play on the word “crew”).

This summary is a testament to the value of the service. The “letter from the founder” style also feels personal and welcoming.

6. Carol H. Williams

Carol H. Williams, an advertising agency, doesn’t have an “about” page or a formal company description. However, it displays a snapshot of what the company is all about on its “Team” page.

It emphasizes its core values and uses trendy language (“#squadgoals”) to establish that it keeps up with the current trends.

7. Cafe Con Libros

Cafe Con Libros doesn’t have an about us page.

Still, it does have a company description that clearly explains its mission and values in two short sentences: “Cafe con Libros (coffee with books) is an Intersectional Feminist community bookstore and coffee shop.

Through our choice of books, programming, and great coffee, we endeavor to create a vibrant community space where everyone, specifically womxn -identified folx, feel centered, affirmed, and celebrated.”

8. Custom Collaborative

Custom Collaborative helps no/low-income immigrant women build entrepreneurship skills that help them succeed in a sustainable fashion.

Its About Us page features essential need-to-know information for anyone looking to them for support, interested in donating to the cause, or simply looking to learn more about the business.

You don’t necessarily have to include products or services in this section yet, but focus on your bigger meaning and how you stand out from competitors instead. Tell your story in a compelling way.

For instance, HubSpot starts its About Us section with, “More than ten years ago, we had a vision — an inbound world.” HubSpot doesn’t mention its products until further down the page.

DeepMind researchers realize AI is really, really unfunny. That's a problem.

  • A study by Google's DeepMind had 20 comedians test OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Gemini.
  • They found the AI chatbots lacking in humor, producing bland, deliberately inoffensive jokes.
  • Most companies want to create conversational — but not controversial — chatbots.

It turns out that AI chatbots not only have a tendency to be inaccurate , but they also lack a sense of humor.

In a study published earlier this month, Google DeepMind researchers concluded that artificial-intelligence chatbots are simply not funny.

Last year, four researchers from the UK and Canada asked 20 professional comedians who used AI for their work to experiment with OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Gemini . The comedians, who were anonymized in the study, played around with the large language models to write jokes. They reported a slew of limitations. The chatbots produced "bland" and "generic" jokes even after prompting. Responses stayed away from any "sexually suggestive material, dark humor, and offensive jokes."

The participants also found that the chatbots' overall creative abilities were limited and that the humans had to do most of the work.

"Usually, it can serve in a setup capacity. I more often than not provide the punchline," one comedian reported.

The participants also said LLMs self-censored. While the comedians said they understood the need to self-moderate, some said they wished the chatbot wouldn't do it for them.

"It wouldn't write me any dark stuff because it sort of thought I was going to commit suicide," one participant who worked with dark humor told the researchers. "So it just stopped giving me anything."

Self-censorship also popped up in other areas. Participants reported that it was difficult to get the LLMs to write material about anyone other than straight white men.

"I wrote a comedic monologue about Asian women, and it says, 'As an AI language model, I am committed to fostering a respectful and inclusive environment,'" another participant said. But when asked to write a monologue about a white man, it did.

Tech companies are keeping a close eye on how chatbots talk about sensitive subjects. Earlier this year, Google AI's image-generating feature came under fire for refusing to produce pictures of white people . It was also criticized for seeming to err toward portraying historical figures such as Nazis and founding fathers as people of color. In a blog post a few weeks later, Google leadership apologized and paused the feature.

The inability of two of the most popular chatbots to crack a joke is a big problem for Big Tech. Besides answering queries, companies want chatbots to be engaging enough that users will spend time with them and eventually fork out $20 for their premium versions .

Humor is proving to be another component of the AI arms race as more companies join the already overcrowded generative-AI market .

Late last year, Elon Musk said his one goal for his AI chatbot, Grok, was for it to be the "funniest" AI after criticizing other chatbots for being too woke .

The Amazon-backed startup Anthropic has also been trying to make its chatbot, Claude, more conversational and have a better understanding of humor .

OpenAI may be trying to improve its funny bone, too. In a demo video the company released last month, a user tells GPT-4o a dad joke . The model laughs.

Sixteen Nobel Prize-winning economists warn a second Trump term would ‘reignite’ inflation

Sixteen  Nobel Prize -winning economists signed a joint letter Tuesday warning of what they see as economic risks if former President  Donald Trump  were to serve a second term, including reheated inflation.

“While each of us has different views on the particulars of various economic policies, we all agree that Joe Biden’s economic agenda is vastly superior to Donald Trump’s,” the economists wrote. Axios was  first to report  the letter.

“There is rightly a worry that Donald Trump will reignite this inflation, with his fiscally irresponsible budgets,” wrote the group of politically progressive academics.

Trump has so far proposed making his first-term  tax cuts  permanent, imposing universal  tariffs  on all imports, with a China-specific tariff rate between 60% and 100%, and pressuring the independent Federal Reserve Board to cut interest rates.

Economists and Wall Street analysts alike have predicted that any or all of those proposals could reinflate prices, which remain vulnerable despite cooling slightly in recent months.

Joseph Stiglitz, who won the Nobel Prize in 2001, led the effort to publish Tuesday’s letter. His co-signers include George Akerlof, Sir Angus Deaton, Claudia Goldin, Sir Oliver Hart, Eric Maskin, Daniel McFadden, Paul Milgrom, Roger Myerson, Edmund Phelps, Paul Romer, Alvin Roth, William Sharpe, Robert Shiller, Christopher Sims and Robert Wilson.

“Nonpartisan researchers, including at Evercore, Allianz, Oxford Economics, and the Peterson Institute, predict that if Donald Trump successfully enacts his agenda, it will increase inflation,” the economists wrote.

Stiglitz said he felt compelled to initiate the letter based on a flurry of recent polling in which voters said they trusted Trump over Biden to manage the U.S. economy.

“A lot of people think Trump would be better for the economy than Biden,” Stiglitz told CNBC in an interview. “I thought it would be important for Americans to know that at least a group of credible economists differs very strongly.”

The timing of Tuesday’s letter was notable, coming just days before Trump and Biden are scheduled to face off in the first presidential debate of the general election. The Atlanta debate hosted by CNN is expected to dedicate significant time to the economy and specifically, inflation.

The Trump campaign staunchly rejected the Nobel economists’ position.

“The American people don’t need worthless out of touch Nobel peace prize winners to tell them which president put more money in their pockets,” Trump campaign spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said in a statement to CNBC.

Under Trump, the  December year-over-year Consumer Price Index  fell during three of his four years in office.

The Biden campaign seized the opportunity to tout the letter on Tuesday: “Top economists, Nobel Prize winners, and business leaders all know America can’t afford Trump’s dangerous economic agenda.”

The Nobel laureates’ letter contained a distinct political perspective, as well as an economic one.

Many of these economists signed a similar  September 2021 letter  expressing support for President Joe Biden’s Build Back Better package. Critics at the time argued that the massive spending packages would drive up inflation.

At the time, Stiglitz observed that some people “invoked fears of inflation as a reason to not undertake” the Build Back Better investments. “This view is short-sighted,“he said in a press release.

This time around, Stiglitz and his co-signers took a more cautious approach to inflation, after the U.S. economy has spent that last year recovering from 2023′s scorching inflation spike.

The higher prices were partly due to pandemic-era supply chain snarls, which left the global trade system unable to meet the pent up demand of American consumers.
