Hyrule Town

Hyrule Town The Minish Cap

Get out and get in the house of the kitten lady, southeast of the city. Read the letter on the table and notice the book on the bookshelf. Get out, go find some water to put in your bottle, then get in the next house. Pour the water in the fireplace to the right, then flip the vase and shrink. Get in the fireplace, go to the girl's house, then climb the small ladder, go on the bookshelf and push the book to make it fall down. Go back to the neighbour, go back to your normal size, go to the girl's house and pick up the book " A Hyrulian Bestiary "! Go back to the library and speak twice to the worker on the left to give him back the book and to know the name of the next owner.

Part 7: Getting the Flippers

  • The Journey Begins
  • Deepwood Shrine
  • Mt. Crenel Climb
  • Cave of Flames
  • Journey to Fortress
  • Fortress of Winds
  • Getting the Flippers
  • Temple of Droplets
  • The Cloud Tops
  • Palace of Winds
  • Dark Hyrule Castle

You'll flip for these Flippers

This is why you should never check out books from the library..

I know the title might sound odd, but just trust me on this one. Use the Ocarina of Wind, and you'll see all of the places you can warp too. There will be a place in Lake Hylia that you can warp to, even though you never quite activated the wind crest there. Don't worry about it, just go there. Once there, use the stump to become Minish sized, and then go into the little house that's there. Inside, you need to talk to the Minish in there. He tell you that you need to go to the Library in Hyrule Town to speak to Elder Librari, because he knows how to get to the Temple of Droplets. Head back to Hyrule Town through whatever means you see fit, and the Library is located in the North-west part of the town. Go up the stairs to the second floor, and go through the door to get to the rooftop. Use the Cane of Pacci that clearly wasn't forgotten to flip the little jar there, then use it as a Minish Portal before re-entering the library through the small hole next to the door you just came out of. Walk over to the top left part of the second floor, and talk to the Minish there. He says that because some books were checked out, the way to the Minish Elder is not accessable. Return to normal size, and go speak to the librarian on the first floor. She decides that you can go collect the books starting with A Hyrulean Bestiary , which was checked out by “a girl with a cat.” GEE. WHAT A DESCRIPTION! That narrows it down to...the blue roofed house at the southeast corner of Hyrule Town. Lucky you have this guide to help.

Book Number One? Consider it done.

When you enter the house, Ezlo will point out that the book is on top of the bookshelf. Well, I would think that's where a book belongs...on a bookshelf. Thank's Ezlo for finding that very elusive book. Anyhow, go next door to the other house on the left, and speak with the girl who originally checked out the book in the first place. She says that you can take it back for her. Well wasn't that the whole idea in the first place? Exit the house for now, and head left. Fill you bottle up with some water from the stream, then go back into the house with the girl in it. Use the bottle on the fire in the fire place, and then use the Minish Portal there to shrink down to Minish size. Go into the fireplace. Crazy, yes, but then it takes you to a small bridge. Go across the bridge and into the blue house. Once there, push the book off of the bookshelf and onto the floor. Go back, return to normal size, collect the book, and return it to the Library. Once you've returned the book, and she lets you know that the second book is called Legend of the Picori , and it was checked out by “an absentminded scholar.” Once again, it's narrowed down to just about anyone, especially the house with the blue roof in the south-west corner of Hyrule Town.

Book number two is long overdue.

To first get to the proper house, you need to speak to the dog at the bottom of the steps in the south-west corner of Hyrule. To do this, go to the Cafe that's in town, shrink down to Minish size using the portal there, cross the bridge, and just press 'A' when you're at the dog. After that, return to normal size, and use the steps to enter the house with the second book as a normal human. Dr. Left will tell you that he knows the book is in his house, he just doesn't quite know where. You'll have to use his fireplace, so you better get some water and put out the fire. Go up the steps to the carpenters house, and then use the Minish Portal there to shrink down to Minish size. Enter Dr. Left's house through his chimney, and go into the Minish hole near the right side of the house. Inside, he'll give you a clue as to how to get the book back. His exact words are, "Cross the bridge that spans the rapid flow...Through the land of the fearsome beast...Until you reach the misty falls...The treasure sleeps on the other side of the secret entrance there..." What this means is that you need to exit Dr. Left's house first. Go back up through the fire place, and a bit north into a yellow roofed house through the Minish hole there.

Then, exit to the back of the house, and walk around to the right side of it. You'll see a little plank spanning the little waterfall. Well, it seems little, but to a Minish it's actually a bridge spanning a rapid flow. Next, you'll have to get through the land of the small fearsome, but cute, cats. Down the little vine, around the water fountain, and into the little hole there. According to the one Minish, the treasure should be just inside. Go right a screen, and use the Cane of Pacci on the little hole to go up a level. Head up and then defeat the four Mulldozers. A chest will appear containing the power bracelets! Now what you need to do, is go back to Dr. Left's house. Once there, on the ground floor, push the cabinet on the left more to the left so it touched the edge of the fireplace. Then, push the other cabinet towards it. Then, climb up, and go into the little hole there. Up at the top, the book is the green one teetering on the edge on the right side. Your weight combined with the one Minish's weight isn't enough to make it fall, you need another you. Go to the dust on the bottom left part of the boards, and use the Gust-Jar to clear away the dust revealing colour-pads. Make a copy of yourself and then stand on the book. Apparently your copy has a weight to it, because now it's enough to make the book fall. Return to normal size, collect the book, and bring it back to the Librarian. The final book is A History of Masks , which was checked out by Mayor Hagen. Finally a specific place as to where the book will be, right? You wish.

Book number three is not as easy.

The Mayor's house is just to the right of the large bell in the center of town. If you speak to Mayor Hagen, he doesn't really know that much about the missing book. Maybe the Minish in that hole up there know? Use the Pegasus Boots to ram into the walls to knock the masks off of the walls. After that, use the Cane of Pacci on the jar to turn it into a Minish Portal. Use it, and enter the Minish hole. He'll tell you that the Mayor had the book in hand when going to his lake house, but not so much returning. He marks the lake house on your map, which is where you need to go to get the book. From here, head to Lon Lon Ranch, and go to the south-east part of it to get to Lake Hylia. From here, go south a little to get to the Minish Woods. If you continue down a little, you should find a little sign, and almost a doorway that's closed. You can use the Mole Mitts to actually dig the door down, allowing you to enter.

Once in, work your way to the ladder which will be closer to the right side. Climb up, and you'll see the Mayor's Lake house just to the right. Instead of entering through the front door, go around to the back of the house, and you'll notice a suspicious looking tree. What is this tree hiding? Ram it with the Pegasus Boots to find out. Use the Minish Portal you find there to enter the house from the secret rear entrance. You'll have to use the Gust Jar to work the lily-pad, but I'm sure you're no stranger to this anymore. Once inside the house, use the moving leaves to get across the little section of water there. Then, you see the shelf with the pots and such in it? I think it would look nicer a tad to the right. Once you have moved it, climb up the little ladder there, and push the book off of the fireplace. Good thing he didn't put the book in the fireplace. Anyhow, backtrack to the Minish Portal, return to your regular size, enter the house, and collect the book. Then, return to the Library in Hyrule Town. When you return the book, Sturgeon will come and transport the books via his head back to their original location. Now we need to go see this Elder Librari and find out how to get into the Temple of Droplets.

Look out below!

You'll have to use the Minish Portal outside to shrink down and go the the library shelf you did before. This time, since all the books are there, you'll be able to follow the very linear path to get to the Elder. Once you do get to him and speak to him, he'll understand what you want, so he decides to send you to the dungeon through his trap door in a book. In here, push the blocks at the bottom left and head down a screen. Use the Gust Jar to grab the mushroom and fly across the water, then head up a door. In here are some neat enemies called Scissors Beetles. Remember how you were told to never run with scissors? This is why. You have to hit them on their side or backside with your sword to defeat them. Once you do, a large chest will appear with a new item, the flippers! These flippers are always ready for action, so you don't need to equip them. Just hop into the water to the left of you, and swim south until you can get outside. Once there, you'll be near the library, so you really should use the portal there to return to your normal size, because it's time to go to the Temple of Droplets. To get there, go to Lake Hylia, and swim out to it. It's the little ice thing with a crack in it. Stand on top, and press 'R' to enter it. Welcome to the Temple of Droplets.

Chapter 7: Lake Hylia

The library and beyond.

Okay, you’ve finally gotten out of that awful Fortress of Winds; have a magical Ocarina that can take you anywhere you want, so where do you go? Use the Ocarina. You will now discover that you can only fly to area that you have uncovered Wind Crests. Wind Crests are those symbols that you uncovered by making the tombstone shaped objects disappear. Your first destination is, surprisingly, the first Wind Crest you revealed. Head to the Crest in Lake Hylia. If you don’t know where that is, it is the crest to the far right on the map, just above the Minish Woods.

Ezlo will give you a short speech, and then you can shrink yourself with the Minish Portal nearby. Head in the Minish house north of Link.

Speak to the Minish inside, and he will be very surprised that you have been able to find him. Apparently, to find the entrance to the Temple of Droplets, you must speak to the elder Librari, who is currently retired and resides in the Hyrule Town library. So, enlarge yourself with the Portal and head to the Wind Crest in Hyrule Town!

From here, head east until you reach the town library. It is a two story building with a green roof. Enter.

From here, ignore the people and just head northwest up the stairs. You will see some Minish footprints! Speak to the man and he will say that he isn’t crazy – those books move on their own! Head south, now, out the door. To your left you will notice a vase… equip your Pacci and flip it. You can now shrink yourself, so do so and head back into the top floor of the library via the Minish door nest to the regular door.

Head toward the Minish footprints, and you will enter a little book world. Speak to the Minish draped in yellow, and he will complain that a book is missing. This book was initially the ladder that allowed you to go see Elder Librari, so you need to find that book! Supposedly, one of the Librarians has it…

Enlarge yourself using the vase just outside. Re-enter the Library and go down the steps. Remember when you entered, there were two people sitting at desks? Talk to the one on the left, and she will help you. The book you need to find is A Hyrulian Bestiary, which is currently checked out by a girl with a cat. This house is south from the library. Actually, quite a ways south. Head to the four-way intersection, and go south through the market area. From here, head east until you see a house with a purple roof and a house with a blue roof, connected at the top by a small wooden plank.

The house with the book is the blue roofed one – enter to hear Ezlo talk about the book. Now, you are presented with one problem: How do you get the book from the top of the shelf? First of all, read the letter. The girl who owns the book is next door, so enter the house with the purple roof. You will see two fireplaces, one flaming and one burnt out. You need to burn out the flaming one, so it’s time to fill a bottle with water. Exit the house and head west, until you reach the river. Fill your bottle and head back to the house, and douse the fire.

Now, you will see yet another blue vase. Flip it over with some Pacci magic and enter the fireplace that you just burnt out. You will be taken up the chimney and onto the roof. Head across the small wooden plank and into the fireplace of the blue house. Ezlo will make statements about how scary everything is. Just make your way over to the Minish ladder on the opposite side of the room, avoiding the cat at all costs. When you walk up the ladder, head to the right, and push the book down off the shelf. Head out of the house and enlarge yourself.

Now that you are normal size again, head to the blue roofed house and get the book you pushed off the shelf. Now that you have the missing book, head back to the library. If you forget where the library is, it is northwest (very northwest) of where you are now. In the library, speak to the librarian on the left again, and she will praise you for getting the first book she needs.

Now you must get another. The book is titled Legend of the Picori, checked out by an absentminded scholar. You must go find the infamous Dr. Left! All you have to do is head south once again, and near the entrance of Hyrule Town you should see a yellow-roofed building to the left, which should be a café. Inside the café is yet another blue vase… flip it and turn it into a Minish portal. Shrink yourself, and head to the opposite side of the room where a Minish door resides, and exit the café.

Head west, across the bride, using the small wooden plank as a Minish size bridge. Continue west, and when you need to head north. His is the house with a purple roof – enter via the Minish door. You should see Dr. Left doing work in the center of the room, and two Minish doors at the back of the house. You can only enter one at the moment, so enter the bottom one to find yourself in a Minish house.

Speak to the Minish man in blue to hear of clues to a treasure… Cross the bridge that spans the rapid flow… through the land of the fearsome beast… until you reach the misty falls… the treasure sleeps on the other side of the secret entrance there…

Also, the hunt starts at this very house! You can exit the house now, though, and enter through the back of the log cabin just south of Dr. Left’s house. In here is a Minish portal, which you can use to enlarge yourself. Exit out the southern door, and head to Dr. Left’s house. As you approach the door, he will tell you he has the book. Enter the house.

He has the book, but he hasn’t seen it in days! You should put out that fire with some water and explore the chimney; it did you lots of good last time you did it. Head out of the house, and go to the nearby river to fill your bottle with water. Re-enter the house and douse the fire.

Go back to the carpenter’s house, the log cabin, and shrink yourself. Head out the back way, and go to Dr. Left’s house once again. Enter his chimney – you will be taken up top the roof. Use the wooden plank as a bridge; make your way north, into a house with a yellow roof via another Minish door.

In here, you will see a man and Minish man standing. Ignore the man, and possibly even the Minish man, just head north through this house, and out the back way. Now, outside the house, loop around by heading to the right, and then south. It’s time to follow the other Minish’s clues.

First: Cross the bridge that spans the rapid flow. Well, you see a small plank, don’t you? It spans across the river. Cross it. You’ve just completed step one… which wasn’t hard at all.

Step Two: Through the land of the fearsome beast. From where you are, you should head north. You will pass by a small caged area with two cats wandering back and fourth, which would be the “fearsome beasts.” At the northwest corner of the area is an entrance you can walk through, so do so. Make your way south, maneuvering carefully around the cats. When you get to the end – hopefully you didn’t lose too many hearts on the second cat – head down the vine, and walk around the fountain to enter the Minish door. That was both step three and four: Until you reach the misty falls… the treasure sleeps on the other side of the secret entrance there.

Ezlo will seem surprised! Who knew this was behind the town’s water pump? I guess you did, since you followed the Minish’s clues. Now, we have to find that treasure. Head to the room to your right.

You should be familiar with all the enemies in here. Just kill them off, and use your Cane of Pacci to charge the hole in the northern area of the room. Enter the hole and launch yourself up. Head through the door.

Oh no! I mini boss battle! Kill off the blue beetles… they shouldn’t be too much trouble. They take four hits each, and once dead you will get the much sought after treasure! This treasure turns out to be the Power Bracelets! You’re filled with strength, even while tiny! This stays equipped always, just like the Grip Ring you found at Corel.

You can head out of here now. Back through all the paths… the cat area, the small bridge, and any Minish you speak with will be amazed and congratulate you on your feat. You can ignore them, and just make your way back down Dr. Left’s chimney. Now that you are a strong little Minish, you can push those cabinets! Go in between the two, and push the left cabinet to the left. Then, go around and push the rightmost cabinet to the left as well, until you have created a walk able path to the Minish door on the wall. Head up the ladder and into the door.

You will see a large open book and a Minish in blue reading it. Ignore him, and concentrate on the Minish in green to his left. He complains about the dust everywhere in the room, so equip your Gust Jar and get rid of the dust below him. Not only will he be satisfied, but you will be to, because there is a four area here! Make a vertical column of two Link’s, and head east, making sure to not let the clone Link hit anything on the way to… a large green book wobbling on the edge of a wood beam? This Minish wants to return that book, and he needs your help to make it fall off. Get both Link’s to stand on the edge of the book until both Link and the book fall.

You need to be full size, don’t you? Head out of Dr. Left’s house and back into the log cabin to enlarge Link. Head into Dr. Left’s house once again, and nab the book. Now you have two! Though, you need be Minish size again to get back across the bridge, so head back into the carpenter’s house and re-shrink yourself. Head out the back way, and cross the bridge to the south. Head east, back into the café… enlarge Link, and head north to the Library to return the second book.

Speak to the lady once again, and she will be so grateful of you that she thinks you deserve a medal! Anyways, the last book is entitled A History of Masks, and it was checked out by Mayor Hagen. Head directly east to get to his house. You will need to go just a bit south, but not too much. His house has a yellow roof.

Speak to Hagen, and he will tell you his name, and that he did indeed check out that book. But he is not sure of it, so it’s up to you to get it from him. First, you need to knock the masks off the shelf on the wall. Do this by using your Pegasus Boots, and ramming Link against the wall to knock one or two masks over at a time. On the far left, a Minish door will appear behind that last mask. Now, you see that vase to your left? Flip it with some Pacci magic, and shrink yourself.

Climb up the Minish size ladder on the right side of the room, and head left into the door. Speak with the Minish people, and they will mark a spot on your map. This spot is Hagen’s Lake Hylia Cabin, and he left the book there by accident! I guess we have to take a trip to Lake Hylia, then.

Exit the room, and head back to the Minish portal to enlarge yourself. Exit the house, and use your Ocarina to fly to Lake Hylia, just as you did before. We’re not staying in Hylia for long, though, so jump down from the platform and exit out to Lon Lon Ranch. In here, you will need to head north, and walk around the platform west until you reach an empty hole. You’ve done this all before – take your Pacci and shoot the hole, launch yourself upward, and head eat. Hop in the whirlwind and head south. Head a bit east, hop in the next whirlwind and head south across the patch of water. Now you can exit into the Minish Woods, and you should be near Syrup the Witch’s Hut. You are one screen away, so just head south.

Just near the stairs leading to Syrup’s hut is a door. You were never able to break these… before the Mole Mitts, at least. Well, now you can simply dig through these doors, so test out your Mitts on that door to open a cave entrance. In the cave there is an abundance of sedimentary rock… dig through it with your Mitts. Head west for a treasure chest containing a blue Kinstone Piece!

Head north from here, and ignore that conveniently placed green rupee – it is a likelike. Continue heading north, and go up the ladder. Head east, and you will see Hagen’s cabin, but you don’t need to go in just yet. He’s left only a message for you there: “If you can’t solve a problem, ram your head right into it!” Well, you are about to do just that. Head around the house on the right side, and you will see a tree. Upon ramming the tree with your Pegasus Boots, a Minish Portal will be uncovered! Use it to shrink Link, and enter the Minish path just below.

It’s just too easy. There are no obstacles, enemies, or anything in this path. Just Link and his lily pad. Equip your Gust Jar, and continue straight south until you hit the dock at the other end. When you leave the path, you will find Link to be in the Hylia Cabin… to reach the book, hop onto a clover and ride it around the pool of water. Head over to the cabinets on the opposite side of the room. Push the rightmost cabinet to the right, and it will uncover a ladder. Climb up and head east to the book. Push it down off the fireplace.

Head back through the Minish path. This time, however, there are enemies, so be ready. It’s nothing terrible, though, just a swarm of bugs, which are not hard to destroy. When you have made your way out of the path, enlarge Link and head around to the front entrance of the cabin so you may enter and nab the third and final book.

Now that you have the last book, fly back to Hyrule Town and get to the library. Give the last book to the librarian, who will call Sturgeon down to bring them back to the bookshelf. Now you can safely go to the second floor, shrink yourself, and enter the Minish book world.

Talk to the Minish in yellow, and he will reward you with a prize of 50 rupees! Climb the blue book to your left now, and then climb the next set of book after that. Head east, and then head down one book. You should see a large green book with a clover symbol on it and a door on its spine. Enter to meet Elder Librari.

Librari will tell you how to enter… but first you must go through his little adventure. He will send (Well… more like trick.) you down into an area where you must find the item you need to get into the temple. So first, you need to get out of this caged area.

Push the bottom left corners blocks out. The top one to the left, the bottom block down, so that you may exit. Head south to the next screen, and kill off all the slugs here. Take out your Gust jar, and pull the mushroom at your left towards you to launch you across the water. Head to the next screen.

Here, kill off the slugs and head through the door. Simple as that.

Another mini boss battle! These bugs have large claws on their mouths, which they can send hurtling at you like boomerangs. On top of that, they take quite a few hits as well, around eight or so. And you have to fight two of them, so be ready! You can hit them anywhere that the blue claws are not. When defeated, a large blue chest will appear. Open it to receive…

The Flippers! Press A to glide through the water and B to dive!

Anyways, they are another permanent equip, like the Power Bracelets, so you may always dive safely into water now. Do so to try them out – head into the nearby river and head south. At the next screen, just continue south to exit the mini dungeon.

Welcome back to Hyrule Town! Head east to get back to the library and enlarge yourself. Do it quickly, because it is now time for Dungeon #4 – Temple of Droplets.

You are done in Hyrule Town, so get out your Ocarina and fly to Lake Hylia! From there, jump off the ledge and head north, crossing the bridge. When you see a house with a small pond next to it, get into the pond via the steps. Swim to the center and press B to dive and you will get a Piece of Heart! If you have been following the guide correctly, you now have a whole new heart container.

Continue around the house east, and go down the steps when you get to them. Dive into the lake. Now, you might see the dungeon just near you, it looks like a little white circle of ice, but you cannot get to it yet. In fact, you have to swim all the way around the lake clockwise to reach it, all because it is blocked off by stones! So, get swimming, and try to avoid enemies shooting at you. Don’t try to get the heart piece either, you can’t. When you reach the dungeon.

Jump into the circle. It is actually a Minish portal! Shrink yourself and head on in!

Library Minish

Library-Minish.png

Library Minish , or Library Picori, are characters that appears within The Minish Cap . As their name suggests, they are Minish who reside at the Royal Hyrule Library . Despite living in Hyrule Town they are given the name of Library Minish, as opposed to the more abundant Town Minish who populate the town. They are found on the bookshelf of the second floor of the Royal Hyrule Library.

When Link first arrives at the Royal Hyrule Library, he will meet up with the Library Minish. However, since several books have been checked out, Link is not able to reach the town elder, Librari . [1] One of the Minish is worried that they cannot reach the elder, but is also somewhat happy, as he at least doesn't need to hear the elders boring stories. [2]

Like the Town Minish, the Library Minish come in a variety of colors, with there being Yellow, Red, and Blue Minish.

Link is able to fuse Green Kinstones at various points in the game with a variety of Library Minish. As it is a Green Kinstone fusion, it is not set to a specific treasure chest, but instead, one of the many possible treasure chests. There is one random Red Kinstone within the game that opens up a location in the Hyrule Castle Garden leading to a Piece of Heart , as well as a random Blue Kinstone that opens up a tree in North Hyrule Field leading to a Fairy Fountain. Various Library Minish are some of the many characters in which Link can make these Kinstone fusions with.

The Moscow Free Library and Reading Room opened in March of 1901 in one room of the Brown Building in downtown Moscow. The library was open two afternoons and two evenings a week and was operated by the Pleiades Club and the Moscow Historical Club. In 1903 members of the two clubs formed a committee to secure funding for a library building from the Andrew Carnegie Library Endowment. The Endowment granted the group $10,000. In 1904 Moscow residents approved a special tax to raise money for the building’s operation. A lot was purchased on the corner of Second and Jefferson Streets and Boise architect Watson Vernon was hired to design the library in the Mission Revival style, unique for northern Idaho. The building was completed in 1906 for just under $9,500, making it one of the last Carnegie libraries funded. The first major building improvement was made in 1931 with an addition that doubled the available space. In 1938 the front steps were rebuilt, replacing the curved stairs which had been a feature of the original architecture. In 1964 the basement was remodeled into a children’s library. Construction started in August 1982 to remodel and add to the original Carnegie building. In April 1983 the building was opened to the public, with the Carol Ryrie Brink Reading Room in the historic Carnegie building designated a special place for the children of the community. This addition more than doubled the space again. The Moscow branch serves as headquarters of the Latah County Library District, housing the administrative, adult services, youth services, access services and technical services departments. The Moscow Carnegie Library was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. More information about the library may be found on the Society of Architectural Historians’ “Archipedia” website.

The lost library of the Moscow Tsars

library books minish cap

( Ivan the terrible – 1530 – 1584)

A vast library of ancient texts is hidden somewhere in Russia

The lost library of the Moscow Tsars, or the lost library of Ivan the terrible as its sometimes known, is supposed to be a vast collection of ancient Greek, Egyptian and Latin texts that were hidden during the reign of Ivan IV.

The library was once thought to be kept openly, belonging to whoever was in charge of Russia at the time, but during the reign of Ivar the terrible between 1547 and 1584, the library vanished. The most common story is that for some reason Ivan decided to hide the texts and deny their existence, with the most probable hiding place being underneath the Kremlin.

The first mention of the library is from 1518, and comes from a man named Michail Tripolis, who more often went by his nickname “Maximus the Greek”. He was a famous scholar and translator of texts and was sent to Russia to meet with Prince Vasili III, and it was during this encounter that he was shown countless multitudes of Greek books.

A biography of Maximus the Greek called “The tale of Maxim the Philosopher” was written by biographer Prince Kurbskii, a member of Russian nobility and contains various phrases of how Maximus responded to the texts, with such sentences as “Maxim was astounded and impressed, and assured the prince that even in Greece he had never seen so many Greek books.”

After this first mention of the library nothing else comes up for almost 80 years, when a Livonian writer called Franz Nyenstadt wrote about German minister Johannes Wetterman, who wanted to establish a new church in Russia. As part of this the minister met with Ivan IV who apparently told him that he had been hiding a vast supply of weapons under the Kremlin.

Ivan IV later invited this priest to the Kremlin to see the underground store rooms, but upon entering the complex of tunnels and rooms, the minister was instead shown a store room, apparently not opened for over 100 years that contained dozens of wooden trunks filled with books.

Wetterman was then given the task, along with 6 other people to document the collection. He noted that some of the books contained in the room were believed to have been destroyed and some he had only heard of being mentioned in ancient texts, but didn’t think they actually existed.

He was given the chance to stay for a while in Russia and translate one of the books, but he refused, fearing that this would lead to more work that would trap him in the country under the service of Ivan IV. The collection was then locked away once again in the secret room that it had been in for countless years.

The last mention of the library comes from a report made by Moscow petty official Konon Osipov in 1724. He claimed that V. Makariev, one of the men he was responsible for, was ordered into a secret passage below the Kremlin and found a room full of trunks. When he reported his find to Princess Sophia Alekseyevna he was sworn to secrecy and she forbid anyone to try and find or access the room.

These are the only documented mentions of the library of the lost Tsars, and as always it isn’t much to go on. One interesting thing about the second claim is that Ivan IV also said he had hidden a load of weapons under the Kremlin, something that wasn’t proven until 1978 when a Soviet construction team working on the subway actually found them.

This on its own isn’t proof that the library exists, but it does bolster the claim slightly. Its also important to keep in mind that anything kept in a secret room below a countries primary governmental building isn’t exactly going to publicly accessible information.

Its very possible the collection is real, and could be the result of an insane ruler who stashed the books away out of paranoia or some other crazy reason, or perhaps this is nothing more than a few sketchy historical documents that have been misinterpreted.
