  • If they are in transport, meaning they are being shuttled from one prison to another, that information will not be available. If they are no longer in custody, it will list their discharge date.
  • Other information provided is their BOP Registry Number (inmate ID#), their race, age and release date.

How do I find a detainee in an ICE facility?

  • The US Immigration and Custom’s Enforcement maintains an up-to-date online detainee locator of all foreign detainees aged 18 and older that are in the custody of ICE.
  • When searching by name, a detainee's first and last names are required and must be an exact match. When inputting a hyphenated last name into the Online Detainee Locator System, include the hyphen for the locator to find the individual (e.g., Doe-Smith).

How do I find an inmate in juvenile detention?

In the United States, a juvenile is a person under the age of 18. If a juvenile is arrested for a crime, it is unlikely that their name will be publicly listed on an inmate search page or detention center roster, or will be released to the public. Only the juvenile’s parents or legal guardians will be given that information.

If the crime is a serious felony such as Capital Murder, some states will release their name to the public, either when they are first arrested or after they are convicted. However, in general, it is unlikely that an inmate who is a juvenile will have their name released in any public way.

Does the jail or prison have to keep the inmate in the county or state where they are charged or convicted?

No.  Even though 99.9% of all pre-trial and convicted inmates are kept in the state where they were arrested and/or convicted, they can be kept in any US jail or prison that will have them. This is seen in circumstances where a jurisdiction is overcrowded, or an inmate is moved for their safety. That said, a person must stand trial where they were arrested unless the presiding judge or prosecuting attorney agrees to move the offender’s trial to a different jurisdiction if it is likely they will not get a fair trial.

What if I can’t find an inmate and I know they are in custody in Gadsden County?

If you know an inmate is in custody in Gadsden County, and you can’t find them, it can mean one of several things: 1.    Either you or the jail has the spelling of the inmate’s name inputted incorrectly. 2.    The jail has not yet updated their booking information or roster. 3.    The inmate has already been released. 4.    The inmate has either been arrested or is being housed in another jail. 5.    The inmate is underage; therefore, it is illegal to post their information, or the inmate you are trying to find had their age incorrectly listed as someone under age 18.

I know the person was arrested and in jail, but my search in the roster comes back as “no record found.” What happened?

Same answer as that above. If you know an inmate is in custody in Gadsden County, but your search comes back in the roster as “no record found.”, it can mean one of several things: 1.    Either you or the jail has the spelling of the inmate’s name wrong. 2.    The jail has not yet updated their booking information or roster. 3.    The inmate has already been released. 4.    The inmate has either been arrested or is being housed in another jail. 5.    The inmate is underage; therefore it is illegal to post their information, or the inmate you are trying to find had their age incorrectly listed as someone under age 18.

I was released from jail in Gadsden County, but my record still shows. When will it go away?

If your record of arrest and booking is still showing online, even though you were released, it is because some jails allow that information to remain public indefinitely. Unfortunately, even though the charges against you may have been dropped, many jails will not erase that information from their public records voluntarily.

In a situation like this your only option will be to get an attorney and request they petition the court to force the jail to remove this information. That said, if you were in fact found guilty of the crime you were arrested for, it is unlikely they will remove the information surrounding your arrest and conviction.

An inmate’s family member just died; how can I let them know right away?

The death of a family member is one of the few times, if not the only time, that a jail will take a message for an inmate. Because of the sensitivity of the tragic news, when a family member has died, the news will be transmitted by a member of the clergy, a counselor or someone who is very high ranking within the jail.

Jail management understands that a sudden death of a loved one could cause a violent emotional response that jeopardizes the safety of staff or other inmates.

An inmate’s family member just died; will they be allowed to attend the funeral?

The death of a family member is one of the few times, if not the only time, that a jail will allow an inmate, whether it pre-trial or post-conviction, to be allowed outside of the jail. Even if they are allowed outside the jail, they will have to have at least two armed escorts. An inmate attending a funeral is an extraordinary cost, use of staff and potential danger to the public. That is why it is rarely allowed.

This is not always the case though, and whether an inmate can attend a funeral depends on the inmate’s security classification, whether the jail has the staff to handle it, official jail policy, whether or not the inmate has an attorney that can push the right people, including the judge overseeing the inmate’s case, etc.

What determines whether an inmate is placed in low or high security facilities?

An inmate’s security classification depends on the following: 1.    The inmate’s current crime. 2.    The inmate previous crimes. 3.    The inmate’s history for violence within the walls of the facility. 4.    The inmate’s gang affiliation. 5.    The jail's current distribution of inmates.

What information is available about an inmate?

The information that a jail or court releases publicly about an inmate depends on the laws in the state, the policy of the jail, and the sheriff’s or warden’s individual decision.

Jail booking records and rosters can include more or less, the following information: •    Full name of the inmate •    Inmate's physical characteristics (age, sex, height, weight, etc.) •    Inmate’s mugshot(s) •    Booking number, Inmate ID#, Jacket #, etc. •    Booking date and time •    Charges or offense details – the applicable statute •    Bond or bail amount, if applicable •    Court date, if set, plus the court name and location •    Previous arrests in this jurisdiction, conviction details, and sentence

‘A nightmare’: Quincy animal rescue owner arrested, accused of egregious cruelty, freezing dead animals

Editor’s Note: Some of the conditions described in this story are graphic and may be difficult to read.

QUINCY, Fla. (WCTV) - A pet grooming and boarding business in Quincy is at the center of a disturbing animal cruelty case after its owner was arrested and charged with over 100 criminal misdemeanors connected to neglecting animals.

Angela Geary was arrested Sunday and faces 51 counts of animal cruelty and 51 counts of confining animals without sufficient food. Court records obtained by WCTV allege that Geary exposed animals at her establishment to “deplorable” conditions — reportedly leaving them without food or water, allowing feces and urine to cake up on the floors and storing dead dogs and cats in a freezer.

In her arrest affidavit, investigators call the accommodations at Little Friends Pet Lodge “inhumane and not livable.” And the officers wrote that they believe Geary mistreated animals at her business for an extended period of time.

A complaint leads to an arrest

The case against Geary was prompted by a visit to her business three months ago, according to her arrest documents.

In March, Quincy Police officers were called out to Little Friends Pet Lodge after they received a complaint from two people who used to work with Geary, court records say.

According to a QPD incident report, a woman who identified herself as a former employee said Geary “was hardly supplying them with cleaning supplies and dog food.”

Officers were shocked when they arrived at the property. The papers describe a responding officer being incapacitated by the filthy conditions he found when he entered the building.

“I was overwhelmed with the scent of urine and fecal matter to the point [I] started vomiting.” A responding officer's account of entering Little Friends Pet Lodge on March 8

In the report, he noted fecal matter on the floors and full cat litter boxes. No water was found “in most of the kennels,” he wrote, and it appeared that the dogs had not been “let outside in the run area for quite some time.”

After walking through the space, the officer contacted code enforcement, animal control and the ASPCA, according to the report.

“I contacted the City of Quincy code enforcement, and the business was issued a stop work order for all business at the location,” the officer wrote.

ASPCA team members responded to the scene with dog food and cleaning supplies, records say. Geary then agreed to sign over 51 animals to Tallahassee pet rescue owner Judy Du Bois, the officer wrote.

But just two months later, investigators in Leon County alleged that Du Bois herself was mistreating animals. The Tallahassee woman was arrested on animal cruelty charges , and authorities seized more than 50 dogs from her property.

Days after that initial call, investigators made a gruesome discovery. They found that Geary was allegedly storing dead animals on the premises.

Officers found “a freezer full of dead cats and dogs” in the Quincy building, the documents say. The freezer was later taken to an ASPCA location in Gainesville, where “approximately 87 animals” were turned over to a forensic veterinarian for examination. However, the records noted that most of the remains were in such poor condition that the doctor “would not be able to perform a necropsy.”

Accusations against Rest Your Paws

This isn’t the first time law enforcement has investigated Geary’s property in Quincy.

Little Friends Pet Lodge is run out of a small building along North Cleveland Street that used to house Geary’s other business, Rest Your Paws Pet Refuge. The rescue came under fire in 2023 after a former volunteer alleged animals were being neglected and mistreated at the establishment.

Court records show Du Bois referenced those allegations when law enforcement interviewed her about Geary last month. During that conversation, she appeared to fully cooperate with Gadsden County investigators as they built a case against Geary.

Judy Du Bois describes Geary’s property as “a nightmare”

Du Bois’s comments to investigators put her on the other end of the docket, as prosecutors in Leon County are building an animal cruelty case against her.

“Judy advised this is not the first instance of animal neglect at the facility,” the affidavit said. “Judy went over to the business in the summer of 2023 and rescued some animals... Some of the common issues was malnutrition causing under weight animals, dogs not receiving medical care and feeding issues.”

Du Bois told investigators that she was appalled when she went to help relocate animals from Geary’s property in March.

“Judy responded and advised that when she went into the building, she described it as a nightmare... Judy believed the conditions could have been prevented and they could have reached out for help.” Angela Geary's arrest papers

The Tallahassee rescue owner also alleged that animals were also found in terrible conditions at Geary’s home, an investigator wrote.

“Judy would later respond to Angela Geary’s residence at the request of the Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office. Angela’s, residence was worse than Rest Your Paws Refuge,” the affidavit said.

She also supplied officers with photographic evidence of Geary’s alleged neglect, according to the report.

“I reviewed the photographs sent by Judy. I observed many dogs rib cages showing indicating signs of malnutrition,” the investigator wrote. “I observed animals missing fur and appeared to have some medical needs that were not being treated.”

Du Bois told investigators that Geary was capable of recognizing when a dog needed professional healthcare.

“Judy advised Angela has extensive knowledge in animal care as she has been working in the veterinary field for a long time. Angela would know what malnutrition and proper care should look like at an animal care establishment,” the records said.

What’s next?

Geary was released from the Gadsden County Jail Monday after being granted a $5,000 bond, according to the sheriff’s office website. She is set to appear in court on June 25, according to online records.

Girlfriend of alleged shooter in Brian Battie case arrested for discarding weapon

  • Published: Jun. 05, 2024, 9:28 a.m.

The girlfriend of the suspected shooter of Tommie Battie IV and Auburn running back Brian Battie was arrested by Sarasota County Florida deputies in connection to the shooting for allegedly attempting to hide the gun used in the shooting, according to court documents filed Monday.

According to the arrest affidavit, surveillance video at the scene of the May 18 Sarasota shooting where Tommie Battie IV was killed, and Brian Battie critically injured showed a white Hyundai Elantra in the parking lot next to where the shooting occurred. Deputies later determined it was a rental car rented by Nicole Roberts, 29, girlfriend of suspected shooter Darryl Brookins , the report states.

Investigators determined Roberts drove the car out of the lot in the same direction where Brookins fled on foot. Then, the report states, Roberts drove north into Manatee County, the county between Sarasota and the Tampa-St. Petersburg metro area.

The report states investigators found surveillance video that showed the Hyundai parked next to the Manatee River in Bradenton, Florida, and a female believed to be Roberts exiting the driver’s seat, walking down a dock and discarding an item.

Later when investigators visited that scene, they found a Glock 9mm firearm in the area.

After allegedly discarding the weapon, the woman driving the car continued north to Tampa, deputies said. At an apartment complex in Tampa, Brookins was seen exiting the car with a white shirt wrapped around his head, according to the report.

Deputies report that Brookins initially fired a gun at the Battie brothers, and they walked toward him around 3444 17th St. in Sarasota. The report also states that the Battie brothers returned fire.

Brookins’ lawyer has argued that the defendant acted in self-defense. Roberts entered a not-guilty plea Monday to her accessory charges.

Tommie Battie IV died at the scene from his injuries in the shooting. Brian Battie remains in the hospital. Court documents in Brookins file state that Brian Battie could have “permanent paralysis” if he survives from his injuries.

At the SEC spring meetings last week in Destin, Florida, Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze said Battie “seems to be getting better each day.”
