I'm having the exact same problem with Notes. I have a MacBook Pro 2021 (M1 Max) with Ventura 13.5. My iPhone is 11Pro. The Mac receives any notes I make on the phone, but changes on the Mac are not being received on the phone. I've tried every recommended option for fixing this problem – without success. I use the Notes app for work, and I can't afford to not have my Mac notes syncing with those on my phone.

SOLUTION: After hours of trying to fix the issue of my iphone notes not syncing to my Macbook Pro, I finally found the solution. Open Notes on your computer, go to File>Accounts>icloud and sign in through that method. Then restart your computer.

I kept going to system preferences>icloud on my Mac and it still wouldn't work, but when I opened Notes>Account and then got to icloud, success! Hope this helps someone else!

Those steps do not fix the problem on my devices. My iOS device (iPhone 13) reliably syncs to iCloud and my Mac M2 Pro receives those syncs. But it will NO LONGER work in the opposite direction: A change to an existing or new Note that is made on the Mac will not sync to my IOS device. Often when I try to solve this issue by editing a note to try to force a refresh, a duplicate Note appears making 2 identical notes, but the Mac-to-iOS sync still won't update either note in iOS. This has started happening awhile ago during recent updates of macOS Ventura, now on 13.4.1. My use is to create a Note or update an existing Note on macOS, then access that edited Note on iOS when I'm away from the computer. It always lets me down when I open the note on iOS and find the update I made on the Mac is never there anymore.

I had the same exact problem. This is what I did to resolve it.

  • Restarted laptop
  • Settings > Account Name> iCloud: Turn off Notes
  • Close the Notes app
  • Settings > Account Name> iCloud: Turn on Notes
  • Open Notes App

It's also worth noting that I did the same thing on my iPhone first...but that didn't fix the problem. Don't know if it was part of the overall solution though, so it might be worth including in your process.

WARNING: When I did this, the notes app on my laptop synced to my cloud files (same as iPhone) and I lost any edits to Notes that only existed on my laptop. I also lost any Notes that we only on my laptop and had not yet synced properly to the cloud. For me, it was a relatively small price to pay to get my notes back in sync across devices.

I finally solved this frustrating Notes syncing problem.

For the last few years Apple Notes across my device (MAC, iPhone, iPad) would not sync correctly. I had over 650 Notes, and many of them had attachments, e.g., pictures, links to subdirectories, and PDFs. And I was sharing some notes. The problems I experienced included some Notes not syncing; always a different number of notes on different devices (a difference of 30+ notes across synced devices); occasionally Notes updates would not replicate across devices (VERY bad). And I tried ALL the Apple recommended approaches and various online suggestions, including deleting ALL Notes on a device then re-syncing from Apple Cloud to refresh the sync. But despite many attempts, I just could not get my Notes to correctly replicate across my devices nor stay synced afterwards. It was a big mess and causing me a lot of grief.

Here’s how I solved my problems - which required investing over 6 hours meticulously reviewing the contents of *every single Note*. Prior to performing the activities below I deleted all Notes from my iPhone and iPad and then worked on the Notes on my MAC (I wanted to force the Notes on Cloud to sync with the changes below):

  • I removed ALL embedded PDFs. Someone else mentioned they fixed Notes by doing this and sometimes PDF files are large, so I figured go after the big rocks. I found and deleted about 50 PDFs (some 25-50 pages).
  • I deleted ALL embedded TIFF images. I hardly ever *use* TIFF files anymore, so was surprised to see them - but they tend to be large.
  • I deleted old, obsolete Notes files - brought down my Notes count from 650 to 500. To me, this is a stupid waste of time and I would not even think of doing this if not desperate, but since I was trolling through every Note anyway I figured it couldn’t hurt to cleanup a bit.
  • I deleted the FEW embedded NUMBERS spreadsheets I had - figuring those might be Notes complications worth avoiding.
  • While I left most embedded pictures (PNG, JPG or HEIC), I did remove some pics when there was, say, more than a dozen in one note. For the record, I organize most my pics elsewhere so there were only few hundred pics total across all my Notes but I cleaned out obsolete stuff.
  • I deleted or resolved any Notes ambiguities - i.e., the 1st line of a Note is used for sorting and - I worry - possibly syncing, so it turns out I had a few ambiguities (i.e., Notes with the same Title line) - in one case, a half-dozen with the same name. I figure couldn’t hurt to clean that up.
  • I reduced the number of shared notes (meaning shared with my family members on different Apple ID's) down to the bare minimum (less than 10) - I had about 20 shared Notes files. (My last resort w/b to unshare all.)

All considered, my effort was focused on 1) reducing raw space, 2) removing complexity, 3) eliminating ambiguities. And it worked. What a relief!

Suggestion for Apple Notes developers (if listening): Please add a “Sort by Size” option under Notes/View menu - if I’d have had this, I surely would simply have sorted by size and focused on the problem children first. My guess is that I could have solved my problems in a few minutes (rather than hours).

Good luck Notes users - I hope this helps!

Solved for me

My iPad wasn’t syncing Notes. So I turned it off in iCloud and then back on. Didn’t help and of course deleted Notes from my iPad. Would not re-sync.

Here’s what brought it back:

  • Turn Notes off on iPad in iCloud
  • Restart iPad
  • NOW turn Notes back on in iCloud. It then forced a resync.

I’m sorry your notes are not syncing. To be able to sync your notes from iPhone to Mac, you must be signed into the same Apple ID, have Notes enabled for iCloud in Settings on both devices, and keep all your notes on iCloud, not under On My iPhone or On My Mac. Follow these steps to make sure all is set correctly:

For both Mac & iPhone

  • Open Settings on your Mac and iPhone
  • Click on your name at the top on your iPhone and Mac.
  • On your Mac, make sure Notes is checked. On your iPhone, go to iCloud, then toggle on Notes.
  • Go to Settings
  • Tap Default Account
  • Select iCloud

Open Notes on both devices, then go to Folders. Make sure your notes are all in iCloud, not under On My iPhone, or On My Mac.

I hope this helps!

Thank you for your instructions. UNFORTUNATELY, they do not help. Since upgrading my Mac to latest Sonoma, notes no longer syncs with my other devices which have also been upgraded to the latest iOS. The instructions above have been followed, but syncing notes has stopped.

Thank You mwmom !

Wooo, finally! Works for me -

The downside is you'll lose any updates you've made to Notes on the Mac in the sync process - so backup your work... ouch.

Hey Apple - this problem is bad for folks with long usage that have replaced/upgraded their Macs, or have been forced to do Mac rebuilds to solve hardware issues - in other words, loyal customers. You can do better.

PROBLEM SOLVED

This worked for me too.

  • Opened notes and went to Notes/Accounts,
  • Clicked "Add Account" button,
  • Selected iCloud,
  • Logged in with my iCloud details.
  • Restarted machine.
  • Created a new test note on the iPhone.
  • At first it didn't sync... Neither to the notes app or on logging into into iCloud Notes in Safari.
  • I refreshed the page in Safari and it started syncing normally to the app as well.

I have had similar issues for a while now, notes not synching from computer to iPhone and notes on iCloud even though logged in to the same iCloud account.

Today I decided to delete group.com.apple.notes that stores all cashed Notes data on the computer. It can found here ~/Bibliotek/Group Containers/group.com.apple.notes/ (Before deleting it make a copy of the whole folder just in case you need to restore it.)

Before I deleted the folder I logged out the computers Notes from iCloud and quit the application.

After deleting the content in group.com.apple.notes I started Notes and linked the iCloud account to it again and let it sync all the notes. I have around 1500 notes so it will take sometime :).

After the syncing was done it seems to work again, I have tested to creat a note in the computer and that sync to iPhone and the other way around also. Both edit and or create a new note

I happened upon this thread when I was experiencing sync issues between iOS and macOS.

I discovered my own problem was that the note in question had been created on iOS 16, and was syncing to macOS 10.14 (Mojave) that does not support # Tags .

I knew this, but had accidentally let a # creep into the note – Notes had automatically turned it into a Tag , and therefore it wasn't syncing to my Mac.

As soon as I put a space between the “#” and the next character, Notes no longer recognised it as a Tag and it synced across straight away.

A niche response for the tech laggards among you!

As another data point, I also saw Notes stop syncing after upgrading one of my laptops to Sonoma.

I haven't found a solution to the problem yet.

Edit: Logging out of iCould on the non-Sonoma mac and logging back in pulled down notes again, but changes after the initial download of notes are not synced.

In Notes on my Mac I do not see Accounts under File. Where are you signing in?

Where are these 'System Preferences'?

If I go on my Mac to Notes > Accounts the 'Internet Accounts' section is highlighted and I am already signed in. If I choose iCloud under my name in the same section (settings) I am signed in.

How to Fix OneNote Not Syncing

If you can't sync OneNote manually, close and reopen it, then update the app. This could also be an internet connection issue

To access your notebooks across different devices, they need to sync with your account. Fortunately, there are simple fixes available when OneNote isn't syncing. Below are proven solutions to get OneNote working smoothly again.

Instructions in this article apply to OneNote for Microsoft 365 but should also work for other versions.

Why Won't OneNote Sync?

OneNote stores notebooks in the cloud via OneDrive , so there’s the potential for internet connection problems, delays when collaborating on a notebook, and glitches when working on the same notebook from different devices. Unresolved bugs could be another reason for OneNote syncing issues.

What to Do When OneNote Isn't Syncing

Despite the many possible reasons for this problem, you should be able to fix this yourself rather quickly. Here are the solutions we recommend:

Sync OneNote manually. This will force the app to look for updates on the server, syncing any changes you've made to the notebook on your other devices.

It's easy to do: right-click the notebook name from the column on the left, then click Sync This Notebook Now .

This step is necessary if you're getting either of these error codes: 0xE000005E or 0xE000002E .

A manual sync is unnecessary if you have automatic syncing enabled. Go to File > Options > Sync , and check the box next to Sync notebooks automatically . Press OK to save and exit the options window. Now, the notebook will update when changes are made.

Close and reopen OneNote. Like most tech problems, a restart of the problematic app is often enough to clear out simple issues like this one.

If you find yourself having to do this often, walk through the rest of these steps for some better solutions.

Confirm you're signed in to the right account. If you edited the notebook under a different account, those changes won't be reflected on your other devices unless they're all using the same account.

Open the File menu, then select Account to see the email address listed under User Information . Ensure all your devices are using the same account.

Update OneNote . A bug in the software is unlikely to cause syncing problems but it's possible, especially if you haven't updated OneNote in a long time.

Depending on how you installed the program, you can update OneNote from the File > Account > Update Options menu, or via Microsoft Store.

You might see the 0xE40105F9 error code if OneNote is outdated.

Check your internet connection . If other programs, like your web browser, are having internet-related issues, this is less of a OneNote problem and more of a general network issue. OneNote will sync correctly once your internet connection is restored.

You might see the 0xE4010641 error when there's a network issue.

If your internet is to blame for OneNote not updating your notebooks, it's probably just slow. The link above provides several simple solutions you should try. However, this could be a much bigger problem; see how to fix it when there's no internet connection if that's what you suspect.

Free up space on your hard drive or purchase more OneDrive storage. There might not be enough space wherever the notebook is stored.

To confirm if this is the problem, right-click the notebook's name on the left side of the program and select Notebook Sync Status . You might see the error 0xE00015E0 or a message about Quota Exceeded .

Check the Office.com Service Status . This page will tell you which of Microsoft's services are having problems. If you see anything other than a green checkmark next to OneDrive or Microsoft 365 , then all you can do is wait for Microsoft to fix OneNote's syncing problem.

Clear the OneNote cache. Files in the cache can become corrupt and cause all sorts of issues.

Close OneNote, open the Run dialog box ( Win + R ), and enter this path:

Then, open the folder that corresponds to the app's version number, such as 16.0 . From there, open cache and erase all the files and folders inside it.

Reinstall OneNote . Sometimes Windows software simply needs to be reinstalled to fix a particular issue.

If none of these solutions have worked for you, remember that you can access OneNote online for free . Working from the website eliminates most of the syncing issues that plague the desktop app.

To disable OneNote syncing, go to the File > Info . Select View Sync Status , and you'll see a list of all your notebooks. Select Sync manually to prevent automatic syncing. You can select Sync Now at any time to manually sync your information.

To delete notebooks in OneNote , log in to onedrive.live.com and choose the Documents folder. Right-click the notebook you want to remove, then select Delete .

To sync OneNote to your OneDrive account , open the notebook you want to share and select Share from the menu. Then, choose Share Entire Notebook followed by OneDrive .

Issues syncing OneNote with OneDrive

So I browsed many storage apps and decided to go with OneDrive.

I am starting to regret my choice.

I had been using Samsung Notes on my mobile phone. Now I downloaded OneNote to match with OneDrive.

All the options for synching are checked, but the content of Quicknotes in notebooks doesn't appear anywhere on my OneDrive. I created another Notebook category and that synched. However when I go to open it on OneDrive, it tells me the file cannot be opened and that it might be corrupt.

So how can I make it work?

Another question: why is it that my emojis appear in the note preview, but when I am composing my note, it appears as some script.

What am I doing wrong?

So far I dislike OneNote.

Thank you for your time,

We can feel your frustration. Normally the quick note would be synced to OneDrive, but the syncing process is not always smooth. You can try forcing resyncing in OneNote, which is described in this answer , maybe it's helpful to your issue. By the way, it's highly recommended to back up your OneNote locally or in some place other than OneDrive regularly. OneDrive is a good backup method, but it should not be the only way to store your data. NEVER ONLY store your note only in OneDrive!!!

For the issue of emojis not displaying correctly, may I ask on what platform you encountered this problem. If you are still using Windows 7, here is a related link .

Greetings Thomas,

I thank you for pointing out my displayed frustration. I love the opportunity to apologize for it. I'm sure many people use and love the app, and I wouldn't want to sour their day by bashing a product they love just because I do not understand it.

I am on my Samsung Galaxy S9 smart phone. I am lacking the funds for a computer, currently. I kept researching and most I see are Windows users reviews.

I should've read further into it before choosing the product I'd use.

I appreciate your recommendation about saving my notes on different locations. I find myself writing a lot lately and it would shatter my moral to lose it all.

I hope you'll have a blessed weekend, Thomas.

Thanks for your patience. It should not blame user for this situation.

You mentioned your quick notes disappeared from OneDrive. May I ask how you have access to OneDrive, through mobile app or browser version.

Besides, have you tried to view your quick note through mobile phone browser? The address is https://www.onenote.com/ , you can check whether the quick notes are still there. The content of browser version should be the same with that in server.

We had such high hopes for this place. The experience started off great, we were greeted by the owner who was very friendly and engaged with his customers. The hostess was also very accommodating and helped us to get acclimated at the bar. The issue was the bartender. First, not overly important but note worthy, the entire staff was dressed in clean, sophisticated uniform with the support staff also dressed nicely. The female bartender was essentially half naked, which didn't do much for the atmosphere. We waited longer than we should have for her to take our drink order, and the drinks she made us were sub par at best. We ordered appetizers, which were delicious, and planned to order more throughout the night. At 8:50 we placed another order, and shortly after 9:00 she came back to tell us "i guess the kitchen is closes at 9". Not only was this irritating as we ordered before 9, but multiple other patrons had placed orders as well and were disappointed by the lack of notice. That in itself was enough for us to want to leave and spend our money elsewhere. As we waited for the check, who we had to ask a random server to get the attention of the bartender to get as she had again been chatting and neglecting our side of the bar- a woman near us voiced her discontent with the bartenders service. She said to the bartender that most people would have walked out due to her service the bartender responded "good for you". Her response sealed the deal for us. Wont be going back. All in all, staff is crucial to a successful business. It's still early, get "skylar" out from behind the bar and get someone with some customer service and bartending skill. As a marketed "cocktail lounge", the bare minimum is someone who knows how to make a drink. I hope with time the kinks will work themselves out, but in the mean time, we won't be back.

Second time eating at this restaurant and I'm still impressed with the service and food. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich marinated in a mojito marinade, topped with pickled onions, grilled poblano peppers and a sauce with a side of handcut fries. It was an amazing meal. I took the flourless cake with me, it's dairy free and tastes like fudge (and coconut milk?). Owner/partner was there and was super friendly as was the bartender.

We attended the opening night of this new restaurant in Schenectady and were not disappointed. Tastefully renovated former Pinhead Susan's. Service was warm and friendly but they were obviously just getting to know the menu. Our party of 7 enjoyed drinks, appetizers, entrees and dessert to celebrate a family birthday. Highlights were the ginger gin cocktail (served in a champagne flute but would have been better served in a coupe glass), chicken riggies, and remarkably delicious butternut squash risotto. The tuna wonton appetizer was properly cooked and fresh but lacked seasoning, perhaps an acid note? On looking back at the menu I think the listed pickled red pepper and jalapeño were completely missing on my dish. Sigh. Our birthday boy loved his nicely seared and tender Thor Hammer steak and was thrilled at the inclusion of marrow but wished for more roasted veggies. The table agreed that the giant chocolate chip cookie with gelato was the best dessert of the three we tried. We'll go back again to see how things are flowing. A nice addition to the local restaurant scene. Would make a good spot to hit before a show at Proctor's.

Redmi Note 13 Pro long-term review: Still not good enough

X iaomi's global success was built on the back of the Redmi Note series, and while earlier models in the series were an easy recommendation thanks to great hardware combined with an insane value, that is no longer the case. What was once the best-selling budget phone now moved up a segment into the mid-range category, and as I noted last year in my Redmi Note 12 Pro+ review , Xiaomi didn't really think its strategy through.

The Chinese manufacturer is nothing if not obstinate, and the Redmi Note 13 series continued in the same vein. The Redmi Note 13 Pro+ in particular stood out for its gorgeous design — it is still one of the best-looking mid-range phones — but the auxiliary cameras weren't worth the hassle, it missed out on 4K60 video, and most egregiously, it ran Android 13 out of the box.

Other than a few design and hardware differences, the situation was unchanged with the Redmi Note 13 Pro, so I decided to use the phone a bit longer and share long-term testing notes instead. Xiaomi insisted that it would deliver the Android 14 update to the phone by the end of Q1, but it failed to do so; the update started going out at the end of April, and it counted toward three of the guaranteed platform updates.

The Redmi Note 13 Pro also misses out on the hardware side of things, and after using the sporadically throughout the course of 2024, I'm still not convinced you should buy it — there are much better alternatives available.

Redmi Note 13 Pro: Pricing and availability

Xiaomi unveiled the Redmi Note 13 alongside the rest of the models in the series at the end of Q4 2023 in its home market. The series made its global debut in India on January 4, 2024, and went on sale in the country shortly thereafter. You can now buy the phones in most global markets — including the U.K., Germany and France.

In India, the Redmi Note 13 Pro costs ₹24,999 ($300) for the 8GB/128GB verison, with the 8GB/256GB model retailing at ₹27,999 ($325), and the 12GB/256GB edition available at ₹28,999 ($350). It is sold in a single 8GB/256GB variant in the U.K., where it costs £299 ($381). Over in Germany, the 8GB/256GB model is €289 ($314), and there's a 12GB/512GB version that retails for €369 ($401).

Redmi Note 13 Pro: What I like

To Xiaomi's credit, the brand did a great job with the design of the Redmi Note 13 series, and the Redmi Note 13 Pro looks the part of a mid-range phone. The key difference next to the Pro+ model is that the Pro has flat sides, and Xiaomi says it was an intentional design choice; it wanted to offer a phone with flat sides as an alternative to those users who don't prefer curved screens.

There are bevels around the sides that make the device a smidgen more comfortable to hold and use, and coming in at 187g, it is distinctly on the lighter side. The frosted glass back doesn't pick up much in the way of smudges, and the pastel hue adds to the allure of the device. You get the same hue along the sides as well, and it makes the design stand out a bit more.

The camera island has a multi-colored pattern, and it adds visual flair to the design. The individual modules are nestled within rings, and the overall effect is rather elegant. Continuing with the positives, you get a 3.5mm jack on the device, and it is great if you've got IEMs and want to plug in without needing a dongle.

What I like the most about the Redmi Note 13 Pro is the display; it uses the same 6.67-inch panel as the Pro+ variant, goes up to 1,800 nits in HDR content, and the only difference is that it isn't curved. The AMOLED panel has vibrant colors and good viewing angles, and I didn't see any issues in daily use. There's Gorilla Glass Victus as well, and the phone came away unscathed the few times it took a tumble.

While I would have liked to see more powerful hardware on the device, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 is good at the basics. This is by no means a gaming phone — there are better choices available if that's a requirement — but the phone doesn't lag in mundane tasks, and there's not much in the way of overheating.

The rest of the hardware is similarly decent, with the phone offering Bluetooth 5.3, a good set of 5G bands, NFC, and an optical in-screen module that's unerringly accurate — if located a bit lower on the screen than I'd usually like. There isn't anything awry with the battery either, and the 5100mAh battery consistently manages to last a day and a half between charges. Unlike most phones in this category, you get a charger bundled in the box, and that is good to see.

Coming to the camera, the highlight this year is that the phone gets the same 200MP main camera as the Pro+ model, and it takes great photos in most scenarios.

Daylight shots have good color vibrancy and detail, and the phone does a good job with foliage and clouds. There's good dynamic range as well, and I like Xiaomi's color tuning to Samsung in this category. Low-light shots come out with good detail and color rendition as well, and while there is some noise, on the whole, the larger sensor along with tweaks to the tuning means you get usable shots even in challenging situations.

Redmi Note 13 Pro: What I don't like

Using the Redmi Note 13 Pro alongside other mid-range devices, there's the clear sense that Xiaomi intentionally hobbled the phone. It misses out on IP68 ingress protection — you get an IP54 rating instead, and while it allows the device to withstand splashes of water, it doesn't cover being submerged underwater. Talking of missing features, the phone has 67W charging tech instead of the 120W standard that you get on the Pro+ model.

But what's particularly irritating is that the device misses out on Wi-Fi 6 connectivity; you get Wi-Fi ac instead, and that just isn't good enough on a mid-range phone in 2024. Xiaomi trying to nickel-and-dime users on the hardware side of things is in poor taste, and the brand really ought to have done better in this area.

Although the main 200MP camera is good, the wide-angle lens is sub-par to say the least, and the 2MP macro module shouldn't have been included at all. Xiaomi still doesn't offer 4K at 60fps, and there is no justification to not include the feature. The front 16MP camera also needs an overhaul, and while it takes passable shots during the day, that's just not the case in scenes with challenging lighting situations.

Then there's the software. Xiaomi had plenty of time to roll out Android 14 to the device out of the box, but it chose to bundle the phone with Android 13 instead; this means the brand doesn't have to bother with Android 17 in three years' time, and it still gets to say that it delivered three platform updates.

The software itself still has plenty of bloatware, and while it is optimized better than MIUI 14, I don't see enough tangible differences to justify the new moniker.

Redmi Note 13 Pro: The alternatives

Nothing's Phone 2a continues to be the best budget phone around. It has a more interesting design than the Redmi Note 13 Pro, and while it doesn't use glass, the pattern at the back is unique. You also get better hardware, two usable cameras at the back, and the most refined software in this segment.

If you've used a Xiaomi phone in the past and like all the MIUI features, you should take a look at the POCO X6 Pro . The camera is almost as good, and you get powerful hardware, great battery life with the same 67W charging tech, and it comes with Android 14 out of the box.

Redmi Note 13 Pro: Should you buy it?

You should buy this if:

  • You're currently using a Xiaomi phone
  • You need a good AMOLED screen
  • You want all-day battery
  • You need a 3.5mm jack

You shouldn't buy this if:

  • You want a phone with a good value
  • You need clutter-free software
  • You need timely updates

The Redmi Note 13 Pro clearly has a lot going for it; the design is among the best in this segment — as is the screen — and the hardware holds up in daily usage scenarios. If you're coming from an older Redmi phone, you will find plenty to like here. That said, Xiaomi's abysmal software policy means you don't get as many updates as you should, and the UI itself isn't any different to MIUI 14.

Ultimately, that's what limits the potential of the Redmi Note 13 Pro. This is a good phone letdown by poor decision-making, and with plenty of great alternatives to choose from, the Redmi Note 13 Pro just doesn't do enough to justify its price tag. If you need a new phone, you're better off with the POCO X6 Pro or the Nothing Phone 2a.

How to get this update.

Before installing this update

Microsoft combines the latest servicing stack update (SSU) for your operating system with the latest cumulative update (LCU). For general information about SSUs, see Servicing stack updates  and  Servicing Stack Updates (SSU): Frequently Asked Questions .

Install this update

If you want to remove the LCU

To remove the LCU after installing the combined SSU and LCU package, use the DISM/Remove-Package command line option with the LCU package name as the argument. You can find the package name by using this command: DISM /online /get-packages .

Running Windows Update Standalone Installer ( wusa.exe ) with the /uninstall switch on the combined package will not work because the combined package contains the SSU. You cannot remove the SSU from the system after installation.

Padres notes: Stars need to shine for team to be at best; caution with Darvish

The Padres' Manny Machado celebrates his two-run home run with Fernando Tatis Jr.

Padres’ supporting cast is fantastic, but lineup team knows it has to have Manny Machado, Fernando Tatis Jr. playing closer to their best

It is pretty easy to envision how the Padres could have one of the best records in Major League Baseball.

They are not close to that now. Their 30-29 mark going into Friday night’s game against the Royals ranks 12th in MLB and barely has them positioned in the National League’s final wild-card spot.

And for whatever other reasons might contribute to them not winning from game to game, there is one (or three) simple reasons they are not better.

The three players their offense was built around have greatly underachieved.

This is not news. What is remarkable, though, is how much the Padres “Big Three” are underperforming relative to the “Big Three” from other teams.

There are five teams in MLB with three players ranked among the top 36 position players in average salary. The “Big Three” of the other four such teams — the Cubs, Dodgers, Phillies and Yankees — are hitting better collectively than the rest of their team. The Padres’ “Big Three” are not just performing well below their career norms; they’re collectively being out-hit by the rest of their teammates.

Big 3 salaries

Xander Bogaerts, Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr. are batting a combined .236/.298/.365 while the rest of the Padres have a .264/.332/.398 line.

Even the Cubs, who could be considered to have a bargain basement “Big Three,” all of whom are all struggling to some degree, are getting more production from their highest-paid position players. Cody Bellinger, Ian Happ and Dansby Swanson are batting .231/.312/.386 to the rest of the Cubs’ .226/.306/.361.

The other three teams that built their offenses around a triumvirate — the Dodgers (Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Shohei Ohtani), Phillies (Bryce Harper, J.T. Realmuto, Trea Turner) and Yankees (Aaron Judge, Juan Soto, Giancarlo Stanton) — are reaping the benefits of their investments. Those top trios are carrying their clubs.

The Padres’ supporting cast has the best numbers of any of the five teams. Their “Big Three” has the second-lowest average and lowest OPS.

corrected big 3s

Among the Padres’ top threesome, only Tatis has a higher OPS (.739) than the rest of the team (.730). Machado has a .651 OPS. Boagerts, who went on the injured list May 21 and is expected to be sidelined at least another seven weeks with a fracture in his left shoulder, has a .581 OPS.

The Padres talking up their depth is valid. They would be horrid without Jurickson Profar (.916 OPS) and Jake Cronenworth (.776) leading the team with 35 RBIs apiece and being tied for second (one behind Tatis) with eight home runs apiece. They have been energized by Luis Arraez at the top of the order and buoyed by Donovan Solano filling in at third and designated hitter.

But there is no denying what the Padres are missing and what they need to achieve their anticipated level of success.

“It’s critical that we get production out of the people that historically give us production,” manager Mike Shildt said. “That’s important. That’s no secret. … I know how much they’re trying and know what their preparation and their work looks like. And it’s all been really, really good. And when they normalize their numbers, it’ll help tremendously in what we’re looking to accomplish.”

Tatis led the National League in home runs in 2021 and has had some monumental stretches during his career. But it is Machado the Padres gave a 10-year, $350 million extension to last spring with the expectation he would have several more years in which he played at a high level. He carried them for long stretches in 2020 and ‘22, their recent playoff seasons.

Machado, who had October surgery to repair a torn extensor tendon in his right elbow, entered Friday’s game on a seven-game hitting streak, during which he is batting .310 (9-for-29).

“I know where I’m going to be at the end of the year,” Machado said. “I know how I gotta get there.”

The Padres at this point express nothing but confidence that things will turn around for Machado and Tatis.

“When we go, we’re just gonna add way more,” Tatis said. “It can only get better from here.”

Good news, not great

It appears Yu Darvish avoided a tear in his left hamstring, but he might not avoid the IL.

The Padres have not ruled out the 37-year-old right-hander making his scheduled start Tuesday in Anaheim, but they will be cautious.

Darvish remains in San Diego getting treatment after he departed his start Wednesday against the Marlins after three innings with what was termed hamstring “tightness.”

What to Know About Claudia Sheinbaum, Mexico’s Newly Elected President

Here are five key insights into Mexico’s new president as people wonder whether she will diverge from Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s policies or focus on cementing his legacy.

A smiling woman is greeting several of her supporters.

By Natalie Kitroeff

Reporting from Mexico City

Claudia Sheinbaum’s list of accolades is long: She has a Ph.D in energy engineering, participated in a United Nations panel of climate scientists awarded a Nobel Peace Prize and governed the capital, one of the largest cities in the hemisphere.

On Sunday, she added another achievement to her résumé: becoming the first woman elected president of Mexico.

Ms. Sheinbaum, 61, captured at least 58 percent of the vote in a landmark election on Sunday that featured two women competing for the nation’s highest office — a groundbreaking contest in a country long known for a culture of machismo and rampant violence against women.

Mexico Election Results: Sheinbaum Wins

See results and maps for Mexico’s 2024 presidential election.

“For the first time in 200 years of the republic, I will become the first female president of Mexico,” she said. “And as I have said on other occasions, I do not arrive alone. We all arrived, with our heroines who gave us our homeland, with our ancestors, our mothers, our daughters and our granddaughters.”

Now that she has clinched the presidency, Ms. Sheinbaum’s next hurdle will be stepping out of the shadow of her predecessor and longtime mentor, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the outgoing president.

She and Mr. López Obrador are “different people,” she said in an interview. He’s an oilman who invested in environmentally questionable projects; she’s a climate scientist. Yet Ms. Sheinbaum has appealed to voters mainly by promising to cement his legacy, backing moves like his big bet on the national oil company and proposed constitutional changes that critics call antidemocratic.

Their alliance has also left many Mexicans asking: Can Ms. Sheinbaum be her own leader? Or will she just be his pawn?

“There’s this idea, because a lot of columnists say it, that I don’t have a personality,” Ms. Sheinbaum complained to reporters earlier this year. “That President Andrés Manuel López Obrador tells me what to do.”

She insists she will govern independently from Mr. López Obrador and has some different priorities. But veering too far from his agenda could be very risky.

Here are five things to know about the newly elected president of Mexico that help inform whether she will stray from Mr. López Obrador’s policies or dedicate herself to cementing his legacy.

1. Sheinbaum will inherit a host of challenges.

A former ballet dancer, Ms. Sheinbaum calls herself “obsessive” and “disciplined.” But discipline may not be enough, analysts say.

As president, she already stands to inherit a long list of troubles. The state-owned oil company is buckling under debt, migration through the country has reached historical highs and cartel violence continues to torment the country.

She has said she would continue Mr. López Obrador’s policy of addressing the drivers of violence instead of waging war on the criminal groups, but will also work to lower rates of impunity and build up the national guard.

With a U.S. presidential election just months away, she told The New York Times that she was prepared to work with whichever candidate wins. Publicly, she has echoed Mr. López Obrador’s emphasis on tackling migration by addressing its root causes.

In a hint of potential change, she said in a recent debate that she would seek to reform the c ountry’s migration authority , an agency often accused of corruption.

2. She’s seen as reserved, even aloof.

The Times spoke with two dozen people who have worked with or know Ms. Sheinbaum and also visited campaign events, reviewed her writings and her media appearances and interviewed her, once in 2020 and again this year.

What became clear is that Ms. Sheinbaum, (pronounced SHANE-balm), has long seemed more comfortable quietly getting things done than selling herself or her achievements.

The granddaughter of Jewish immigrants who fled Europe, she rarely discusses being Jewish or almost anything about her personal life, colleagues say. When interviewers ask her about the Nobel Prize she shared with a panel of climate researchers, she notes how many others were involved in the work.

She is known as a tough boss with a quick temper who can inspire in her staff fear and adoration at the same time. Publicly, though, her affect is so controlled it verges on aloof.

Some say her professorial demeanor could pose a challenge in a political landscape defined by Mr. López Obrador, who built his party into a juggernaut by relying on the force of his personality.

“She needs him,” said Carlos Heredia, a Mexican political analyst. “She doesn’t have the charisma, she doesn’t have the popularity, she doesn’t have the political stamina of her own, so she needs to borrow that from López Obrador.”

For some Mexicans, however, a thrills-free woman may be an ideal antidote to an entertaining man who plunged the country into partisan turmoil.

3. She’s long sought to keep Mr. López Obrador happy.

The candidate’s political career began when Mr. López Obrador was elected mayor of Mexico City in 2000 and invited her to a meeting at a diner. “What I want is to reduce pollution,” she recalled Mr. López Obrador telling her. “Do you know how to do that?”

Ms. Sheinbaum, who by then had written more than a dozen reports on energy use and carbon emissions, said yes. She became his environment minister. In meetings, she seemed willing to do almost anything to make her boss happy, according to several people who worked with her.

“The phrase she used over and over again was ‘The mayor said to,’” said Mr. Heredia, who worked with her in city government under Mr. López Obrador. What that meant, according to Mr. Heredia: “We are not a cabinet for giving ideas,” he said. “We are a group of people here to execute what he decides.”

In the years that followed, Ms. Sheinbaum straddled academia and politics, but she always stayed close to Mr. López Obrador. When he founded his Morena party in 2014, he asked her to run on the party’s ticket to become mayor of Tlalpan, a borough of Mexico City. With his backing, she won.

4. She is known for being a demanding boss.

In 2018, Mr. López Obrador was swept into the presidency in a landslide and Ms. Sheinbaum became Mexico City’s mayor. She quickly gained a reputation as an exacting boss.

“One doesn’t go to her meetings to tell her, ‘I’m working on it,’” said Soledad Aragón, a former member of Ms. Sheinbaum’s cabinet. When she walked into a room, Ms. Aragón said, everyone sat up straight.

As mayor, she could remember specific numbers mentioned in a meeting weeks after it occurred, Ms. Aragón said, calling her “brilliant” and “demanding,” especially of herself, adding: “It has gotten results.”

Five officials who have worked with Ms. Sheinbaum, who were not authorized to speak publicly, said that she was quick to anger at times and would yell at her subordinates in front of large groups. Through a spokesman, Ms. Sheinbaum declined to comment on the accusation.

Her defenders say some people merely reacted badly to a woman in charge.

“I know that in her government, sometimes people got offended or felt bad because she yelled at them,” said Marta Lamas, a longtime feminist activist who has been close to Ms. Sheinbaum and her team. “But if a man yells, it wouldn’t be an issue because culturally, it’s different.”

“People say it in a critical way: ‘She’s tough,’” Ms. Aragón said. “What do you want, someone soft in charge of the city?”

5. She is a true believer in Mr. López Obrador’s vision.

For years, Ms. Sheinbaum has tried to explain how she can be so in step with Mr. López Obrador while also being herself. The answer, she says, is simple: She genuinely believes in him.

In 2022, a radio host asked her a pointed question from a female listener: “Why don’t you choose to be a woman who governs with her own ideas? Why don’t you get out of AMLO’s circus?” she asked, using Mr. López Obrador’s nickname. “Why have the same rhetoric with the same words?”

Ms. Sheinbaum didn’t hesitate.

“If you think the same as another person, it’s not that you’re copying them; you just agree with the ideas,” she said. “You can’t deny what you believe.”

The new sticky notes app is rolling out on windows 11.

It's now fully integrated with OneNote.

Sticky Notes allows you to not only keep stuff noted down on your Windows PC, but you can also be reminded of them by sticking them to your desktop and synchronizing them with other devices. Microsoft has now revamped the sticky notes experience on Windows 11, and they're now fully integrated with OneNote.

Microsoft has officially released its revamped Sticky Notes experience for all Windows users. Initially released as a beta to Insiders earlier this year, those who managed to play with it earlier found it to be an overall better experience with improved functionality. Since there were no major problems, Microsoft has decided to open the feature up for everyone after a brief 3-month testing period.

The new Sticky Notes is developed as a feature within OneNote rather than being its own separate application. It boasts several new features over the previous implementation, including one-click screenshot capture, automatic source capture for easy reference, and automatic note recall when revisiting the original source. Furthermore, Sticky Notes seamlessly integrates with OneNote's Android and iOS mobile apps, ensuring you can access your notes on the go from anywhere. There's even optical character recognition (OCR) support for screenshots and other images, so you can use the search function to analyze your notes more quickly.

To launch the new experience, users can simply click the Sticky Notes button within the OneNote app or utilize the keyboard shortcut Win + Alt + S. Microsoft encourages users to explore the new Sticky Notes experience and provide feedback to help shape its future development, so if you want to give it a spin and see how well it works for you, you'll definitely want to share your feedback with Microsoft.

There are actually a few known issues at the moment, such as the "Dock to Desktop" feature not working with extended monitors, but Microsoft is reportedly working on resolving those problems. The update should be good otherwise, but you never know. It's always good practice to wait a few weeks before actually downloading a Windows update that includes a brand-new feature, especially if you plan to start using it immediately.
