Heartstopper Books in Order by Alice Oseman | Ultimate Guide

The Heartstopper books in order tell an endearing coming-of-age story about first love entangled with the difficulties surrounding coming out and mental illness. Nick and Charlie will have you squealing out loud with the hope of success for their fledgling love, while simultaneously cringing at the awkward encounters that come with crushes and adolescence.

There are currently four volumes in the Heartstopper series. A fifth and final volume is forthcoming, but if you want to find out all about the successful Heartstopper franchise and everything else by its author, keep reading.

Who is Alice Oseman?

The brains behind the popular Heartstopper books is the English author Alice Oseman . She is also the writer, creator, and executive producer for the television adaptation of her graphic novel series. Born in Kent, England, Oseman published her first novel, Solitaire, when she was nineteen years old.

Solitaire takes place in the same universe as Heartstopper . It is about Charlie’s older sister Tori and shares some of the same characters, but chronologically takes place later. However, we’ll take a look at the chronology for Oseman’s books a bit later on.

Originally, Heartstopper was a webcomic available on Tumblr and Tapas. It is still available to read on those platforms and to date it has accumulated more than 52.1 million views and an enormous following.

With its online success Oseman turned to crowd-funding for a limited print edition, and met her funding goal in less than two hours. Thankfully, the graphic novels are now widely available after being picked up by a publisher in 2019.

In addition to its online views, Heartstopper has sold one million print copies worldwide. There is also a live-action Netflix adaptation that has proven just as wildly popular.

Oseman’s hope when writing Heartstopper was to show queer youth that they deserve romance, friends, and love. She has been praised for the representation in her books which tackle coming of age, loyalty, friendship, and mental illness.

While Heartstopper has a largely optimistic and positive outlook, it does include examples of mental illnesses such as eating disorders, self-harm, and hospitalization. For a full look at the content warnings for Heartstopper and all of Oseman’s books, you can check out her website .

As well as writing and drawing, Oseman enjoys playing piano and Pokémon games. The fifth and final Heartstopper book in order will be published in February 2023.

About the Heartstopper TV Show

The Heartstopper adaptation quickly became one of Netflix’s most popular shows. On Rotten Tomatoes it has an average score of 100 per cent and an average audience score of 97 per cent.

The endearing, awkward portrayal of young love clearly captivated audiences and had them rooting for Charlie and Nick.

Joe Locke stars as Charlie opposite Kit Connor as Nick. Joining the cast as their friends are Yasmin Finney as Elle Argent, William Gao as Tao Xu, Corinna Brown as Tara Jones, and Kizzy Edgell as Darcy Olsson. Also, Olivia Colman stars as Nick’s mother Sarah.

Following the successful premiere of its first season, Heartstopper has already been renewed for a second and third season. During its eight-episode debut, almost one million engagements took place on Twitter. The first season roughly adapts the first and second volumes of the book series.

Oseman said changes were made for the adaptation to make the young adult graphic novel series more suitable for the medium of television. This means more drama was added in to create an engaging storyline for television, and the secondary characters had more screen time to explore their lives and connections.

The second season will likely begin filming in the fall of 2022. This is presumed following the open casting call for a new character and the required availability. As the first season only took three months to film, it is likely the second season may premiere in 2023.

Heartstopper Books in Order

With only four Heartstopper books in order, and the books being numbered, it’s fairly straight-forward to read the books in the correct order. The order of publication is the same as the chronological order for this series.

  • Heartstopper: Volume 1 (2018)
  • Heartstopper: Volume 2 (2019)
  • Heartstopper: Volume 3 (2020)
  • Heartstopper: Volume 4 (2021)
  • Heartstopper: Volume 5 (2023)

Other Heartstopper Books in Order

But if you are already caught up on the first four Heartstopper graphic novels, there are three companion books to the series.

Heartstopper: Become Human is a quasi-fanfiction of Detroit: Become Human featuring an insertion of Oseman’s characters Nick and Charlie. However, a previous understanding of the game is not necessary to enjoy the story. The colouring book is a self-explanatory addition to the franchise, and the yearbook features exclusive in-universe content narrated by a cartoon version of Oseman.

  • Heartstopper: Become Human (2019)
  • The Heartstopper Colouring Book (2020)
  • The Heartstopper Yearbook (2022)

More Alice Oseman Books

As previously mentioned, Alice Oseman does have other books set with the same universe and timeline as the Heartstopper graphic novels. So, if you’ve already read the first four Heartstopper books in order in addition to the companion books and are impatient for the release of the fifth Heartstopper volume, you may want to check out these books.

However, these books can be quite different in tone from the Heartstopper series, so you may want to check out Oseman’s content warnings guide to ensure these books are appropriate for you.

  • Solitaire (2014)
  • Nick and Charlie (2015) (Novella)
  • This Winter (2015) (Novella)
  • Radio Silence (2016)
  • I Was Born for This (2018)
  • Loveless (2020)

Chronological Order of all Alice Oseman Books

Finally, if you are curious about the order of all Alice Oseman’s books, this is the chronological timeline for her universe. However, it is not necessary to read her standalone books in this order to understand the premise.

The one caveat to this list, if you are looking to do a chronological read of her world, is that the prologue to Radio Silence takes place after the conclusion of Solitaire. The rest of Radio Silence takes place after Nick and Charlie as per its placement on the below list.

Another important thing to note is that the only books to feature Nick and Charlie are the Heartstopper volumes, This Winter, Solitaire, and Nick and Charlie.

  • Heartstopper: Volume 1
  • Heartstopper: Volume 2
  • Heartstopper: Volume 3
  • Heartstopper: Volume 4
  • Heartstopper: Volume 5 (Expected: December 12, 2023)
  • This Winter (Novella)
  • Nick and Charlie (Novella)
  • Radio Silence
  • I Was Born for This

Here’s what order to read the heartstopper books and novellas.

While you eagerly await Season 2 of this hit series, here’s our guide to the Heartstopper graphic novels and novellas…

By Christopher Turner

By now you’ve probably already seen Netflix’s breakout hit series Heartstopper at least once. Based on British author Alice Oseman’s graphic novels of the same name, the heartwarming stgory follows Year 10 student Charlie (Joe Locke) as he falls for his Year 11 form seatmate, Nick Nelson (Kit Connor).

Netflix’s adaptation of the queer coming-of-age series launched on April 22 with eight 30-minute episodes, all based on Oseman’s beloved Tumblr web-comic-turned-graphic-novels. The show became an instant sensation around the world, ranking on the streaming platform’s top 10 list in an impressive 54 countries and becoming one of the few series to score the coveted and incredibly rare 100 per cent score on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics universally praising the show. Then, in a testament to the supremely joyful story checking all the boxes as a Netflix success story, the streamer made the rare move less than a month after it debuted – of renewing Heartstopper for not one but two seasons.

There’s no official word yet on a release date for the second (or third) season, but if you’re looking to take your Heartstopper obsession to the next level or are looking for a little preview of what might be in store, you can dive into the source material.

Oseman initially crowd-funded a limited self-published print run of the online comic in 2018, which reached its target in two hours. This led to Hachette Children’s Group stepping in and acquiring the rights to publish the comic to the masses, with the first official volume of Heartstopper being published in the spring of 2019. There are now four volumes of Heartstopper (as of July 2022), and the fifth and final volume of the series is expected to be released in early 2023. A companion book, titled Heartstopper Yearbook , is scheduled to drop on October 13, 2022. Then there are Oseman’s novellas, some of which feature the beloved Heartstopper characters.

Netflix’s adaptation of Heartstopper is based on volumes one and two of Oseman’s bestselling graphic novel series, and this is where it all began. As the description reads, “Charlie and Nick are at the same school, but they’ve never met…until one day when they’re made to sit together. They quickly become friends, and soon Charlie is falling hard for Nick, even though he doesn’t think he has a chance. But love works in surprising ways, and Nick is more interested in Charlie than either of them realized.” While there are some differences, the first volume essentially covers off the first three episodes of the Netflix series, ending after Nick and Charlie kiss at Harry’s birthday party.

Heartstopper : Volume 2

Volume two picks up immediately after the kiss and continues with a classic case of misunderstood feelings and with Nick discovering more about himself. As the description reads, “Nick and Charlie are best friends, but one spontaneous kiss has changed everything. In the aftermath, Charlie thinks that he’s made a horrible mistake and ruined his friendship with Nick, but Nick is more confused than ever. Love works in surprising ways, and Nick comes to see the world from a new perspective.” The graphic novel covers off episodes 4 through 9 of the Netflix series and ends pretty much the same way the Netflix series ends, with Nick coming out as bisexual to his mother.

Heartstopper : Volume 3

Volume three kicks off the not-yet-Netflix-adapted part of Nick and Charlie’s story; we get to see the couple establish their relationship as boyfriends during the Year 10/11 school trip to Paris. We also see Charlie tell his family about Nick, meet David (Nick’s older brother) and begin to really explore Charlie’s anxiety and self-image issues, and the ways in which these negatively impact his relationship with eating. The description reads, “Coming out isn’t something that happens just once, and Nick and Charlie try to figure out when to tell their friends that they’re dating. Not being out to their classmates gets even harder during a school trip to Paris. As Nick and Charlie’s feelings get more serious, they’ll need each other more than ever.”

Heartstopper : Volume 4

In the penultimate book in the series, Charlie and Nick face a new school year together, and new struggles. Per the description, “Charlie and Nick’s relationship has been going really well, and Charlie thinks he’s ready to say those three little words: I love you. Nick feels the same way, but he’s got a lot on his mind – especially the thought of coming out to his dad and the fact that Charlie might have an eating disorder.” This book in particular was praised for the way it handles Charlie’s mental health and eating disorder. It ends on a high note, and fans of the series are already desperate to see the hilarious and heartwarming “I love you” scene on the screen.

Solitaire , Oseman’s debut novel (she wrote it at age 17!), features some of the same characters as Heartstopper and operates within a similar timeline, but they are very different stories. Heartstopper is a happy, romantic, uplifting graphic novel series that focuses on Nick and Charlie, while Solitaire is a dark story about mental illness that follows Tori Spring, Charlie’s older sister. It was published in 2014, long before Heartstopper was. It is technically the first to introduce the characters of Nick and Charlie (who appear periodically throughout the novel), but chronologically, it starts a year after Heartstopper Volume 1 , while Charlie is struggling with his eating disorder. Solitaire follows the story of pessimistic teenager Tori, who meets Michael, her polar opposite: an unbelievable optimist. They attempt to find out who is behind the pranks at their school, which get more serious as the novel progresses.

Nick and Charlie

Nick and Charlie (2015) and This Winter (2015) are spin-off novellas from Solitaire and Heartstopper, but both can still be enjoyed even if you haven’t read those books. (Both were published by Harper Collins Children’s Books.) Nick and Charlie offers up a little pre-uni drama and catches up with the couple more than two years into their relationship. The novella takes place as Nick is getting ready to graduate Year 13 and preparing to head off to university. Charlie, who is a year younger, struggles with the thought of being left behind.

This Winter

This Winter offers up a little Christmas cuteness. The novella deals mostly with Charlie’s eating disorder and how his family is coping with it. It is divided into three sections: one for each Spring sibling (Tori and Charlie have a younger brother, seven-year-old Oliver, who is not featured in the Netflix series). Charlie’s section is, naturally, more focused on his relationship with Nick.

STILL NEED MORE FROM THE OSEMAN UNIVERSE

Check out Radio Silence , a novel that follows the story of Aled Last from the Heartstopper graphic novels. If you haven’t read those novels, you may be a little confused about where the character of Aled comes from. Aled is one of the only characters from the graphic novels who does not appear in the Heartstopper Netflix adaptation. Back in January 2021, Oseman shared on Twitter that this omission had to do with his significant storyline in Radio Silence . “I decided not to include Aled in the TV series. I know this will disappoint some of you, and I’m so sorry for that, but I did not feel I could give Aled a truly satisfying, complex storyline in the show while having to totally ignore the events of Radio Silence …To include Aled in the Heartstopper show and give him a satisfying storyline would almost certainly involve having to change and/or ignore major elements of the story of Radio Silence , which is not what I or any of you want, I hope!” This presents Netflix with the opportunity to adapt Radio Silence , a novel in which Aled is one of the main protagonists, and his identity and relationships are explored.

Next you could check out Oseman’s third YA novel, I Was Born for This (2018), which takes place two years after the conclusion of the events in Radio Silence . Finally, Loveless (2020) is a YA novel based on the life experiences of the author, who uses she/they pronouns and identifies as aromantic and asexual, and her own experiences in university.

How to read the ‘Heartstopper’ books in order

Cody Raschella

Rarely does a television adaptation of a popular book series manage to successfully expand on the beloved aspects of its source material without forgoing quality or accuracy. For Netflix’s Heartstopper to exceptionally capture the heart, tone, and wholesomeness of Alice Oseman’s graphic novel series is an accomplishment in its own right. The fact that it also happens to be wildly praised by critics is the cherry on top.

Indeed, it’s hard not to fall in love with Oseman’s characters – be it Nick and Charlie, Tao and Elle, Darcy and Tara, or even Mr. Ajayi and Mr. Farouk. Like any good adaptation, falling in love with on-screen characters can immediately lead to the desire to relive their stories all over again in print form.

Oseman’s graphic novels received their official worldwide release in 2019. Since then, Volume 4 went on to become a New York Times bestseller with millions of fans and numerous spin-offs to keep audiences enraptured in the world of Nick and Charlie. Because the first season of the Netflix series actually covered two volumes of the graphic novels, you might be wondering what order to read them in, and if the spin-offs affect that in any way. Here’s what you should know.

How many Heartstopper books are there?

all heartstopper books

There are six Heartstopper graphic novels in total. Heartstopper Volume 1 came out on Feb. 7, 2019, although its contents were technically released as a webcomic in 2016. Due to its popularity, Alice Oseman launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund the creation of the official graphic novels.

Volume 2 was released on July 11, 2019, Volume 3 was on Feb. 6, 2020, Volume 4 was on May 6, 2021, and Volume 5 is scheduled to release on Dec. 7, 2023. The sixth and final volume has yet to be given an official release date.

How to read the Hearstopper graphic novels in order

all heartstopper books

It’s actually quite easy to read the Heartstopper books, as they follow a chronological structure and don’t involve elaborate flashbacks that need to be consumed out of order. The reading order is as follows.

  • Heartstopper Volume 1
  • Heartstopper Volume 2
  • Heartstopper Volume 3
  • Heartstopper Volume 4
  • Heartstopper Volume 5
  • Heartstopper Volume 6

What about the spin-offs?

all heartstopper books

The other books within the Heartstopper universe include Solitaire , Radio Silence , I Was Born for This , and Loveless . There are also the two novellas This Winter and Nick and Charlie , which are spin-offs of Solitaire and Heartstopper , respectively.

All of the books exist within the same universe and don’t take place in any specific year, as Alice Oseman doesn’t attach years or dates to her novels. According to her, they can all be read at their own time without bearing significance on the comprehension of another.

Nevertheless, some books like Solitaire do take place after some books in the universe and before others. Technically, Solitaire takes place in the middle of Heartstopper Volume 4 and ends before Volume 5 begins. So as not to confuse matters, here is the best reading order of all the books in the Heartstopper universe, including the spin-offs:

  • Heartstopper Volume 4 (begins)
  • This Winter
  • Solitare
  • Radio Silence (just the prologue)
  • Heartstopper Volume 4 (ends)
  • Nick and Charlie
  • Radio Silence
  • I Was Born for This

The show creator previously confirmed in March that the sixth title would be the last in the graphic novel series, with Oseman wanting to explore new writing opportunities.

"I'd love to try writing more for screen," they told People Magazine at the time. "I've really enjoyed writing the TV show and I would love to do more of that, whether that's something original or I would love to try adapting someone else's book."

Fans of the TV series, which is based on Oseman's novels, were treated to further good news late last month, with new details of season three revealed.

In additional casting news, Marvel star Hayley Atwell and Back to Black 's Eddie Marsan were also announced as having roles in Heartstopper 's third season.

Sadly, Wonka star Olivia Colman, who played Nick's mum in the first two series will not be returning for season three, with the actor citing scheduling conflicts as the reason.

"I couldn't do number three," she said in an interview. "I couldn't fit it in. I feel awful about that. I feel like I was part of one of the most beautiful things I've ever been part of."

Filming on the upcoming season officially wrapped last December , with Netflix confirming last month that eight new episodes will be released on the streaming service on October 3.

Heartstopper Season 3: Release Date, Cast & Everything We Know

Quick links, the most recent heartstopper season 3 news, heartstopper season 3 release date, the heartstopper season 3 cast, how the heartstopper season 2 finale sets up season 3, heartstopper season 3 possible story details, heartstopper season 3: further news & info.

  • Netflix's Heartstopper , based on Alice Oseman's graphic novel series, is confirmed for season 3.
  • The original cast is expected to return for Heartstopper season 3, including Joe Locke as Charlie and Kit Connor as Nick, with new cast member Darragh Hand as Michael Holden.
  • Volume 4 of the graphic novel series may provide insight into Heartstopper season 3, exploring Nick making his relationship official and Charlie's struggle with an eating disorder.

WARNING: The following contains SPOILERS for Heartstopper season 2. Netflix's feel-good coming-of-age romcom Heartstopper found monumental success across its first two seasons, and it has already been green-lit for season 3. The LGBTQ+ romance series follows UK teen Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) during his time at Truham Grammar School. He soon finds himself fostering a crush after classmate Nick Nelson (Kit Connor). Nick goes on his own formative arc before accepting his sexuality and comes out to his mother (Olivia Colman) in the Heartstopper season 1 finale.

The series is based on Alice Oseman's delightful graphic novel series of the same name. Heartstopper season 1 covered the first two volumes of Oseman's series, whereas season 2 followed the gang's trip to Paris which takes place in volume 3. After season 2 premiered on Netflix, Heartstopper season 3 news began trickling through the cracks, promising to continue Charlie's uplifting story. Since updates regarding the installment are sparse, audiences can only guess what will happen to Charlie following season 2, but a look at Oseman's comics and the plot of the second season could glean some answers.

A Release Date Is Revealed

Though a release window was previously announced, the latest news confirms the actual release date for Heartstopper season 3 on Netflix (via Netflix ). The rom-com returns on October 3, 2024 , and is set to be comprised of 8 episodes which will all drop simultaneously on the platform. Unlike other popular Netflix original series which have been doing a split release, fans won't have to wait to see all of season 3.

Heartstopper season 2 dropped all of its episodes on August 3, 2023.

The Romance Series Returns In October

With fans excited for news regarding the upcoming episodes, Netflix revealed a release window for the third season of Heartstopper that promised the show would arrive in October 2024. Finally, the streamer established a more concrete date and announced that Heartstopper season 3 will premiere on October 3, 2024 . All 8 episodes will be available on that date.

8 Best Animated Moments in Netflix's Heartstopper

Netflixs Heartstopper has many unique elements, but the collection of animated visuals used during key scenes is by far the most important.

Jonathan Bailey & Hayley Atwell Join Season 3

It's all but guaranteed that the original Heartstopper cast will reprise their roles. The Heartstopper season 3 cast will include leads Joe Locke as Charlie Spring and Kit Connor as Nick Nelson. Darragh Hand has officially been added to the cast of season 3 as Michael Holden . Another new addition is Bridgerton star Jonathan Bailey who will appear in season 3 as Jack Maddox , a scholar of historical literature.

In March 2024, Olivia Colman announced she wouldn't be returning as Nick's mom for season 3, but the cast added MCU alum Hayley Atwell as Nick's aunt, Diane . Another new face for season 3 is Eddie Marsan who has been tapped to play Nick's therapist, Geoff.

Other cast members who are expected to return include:

A Major Cliffhanger Ending

The Heartstopper season 2 ending has implications for the trajectory of season 3, as some of the story threads diverged slightly or were added onto Oseman's webcomic. After a horrible dinner with his estranged father and older brother, Nick decides to come out officially and posts a picture of him and Charlie as a couple . The Heartstopper season 3 story will likely see Nick and Charlie's relationship no longer a secret. In addition, the Heartstopper season 2 finale hinted that Charlie's eating disorder would be a bigger topic in season 3.

Darcy's traumatic home life was also explored in the Heartstopper season 2 penultimate episode, and it was revealed that she hasn't come out to her homophobic parents. The sophomore season also saw Isaac step into a bigger role as he experiments with his sexuality by kissing Isaac, but realizes that he may be asexual. In addition, the revelation that Elle will be attending the Lambert School of Art in season 3 was one of the more shocking moments of the season 2 finale, jeopardizing her relationship with Tao.

Season 3 Will Likely Adapt Volume 4 Of The Comics

Volume 4 sees troubling times for Nick and Charlie, as Charlie struggles with an eating disorder and self-harm.

Since Heartstopper season 1 followed volumes 1 and 2 of Oseman's story, and season 2 chronicled volume 3, it can be guessed that the Heartstopper season 3 story will cover volume 4 . There isn't any Heartstopper season 3 news regarding a potential story, and audiences will have to glean what they can from season 2 with the extraneous plot threads that Oseman added to flesh out the narrative. Volume 4 sees troubling times for Nick and Charlie, as Charlie struggles with an eating disorder and self-harm. It's fair to guess that Heartstopper season 3 may take a more serious tone.

Heartstopper Season 2: Everything We Know About The Heartwarming British Netflix Show

'They’re reaching new audiences, and they’re looking at new things.'

preview for Yasmin Finney Plays It's A Mood with ELLE

Just over a year after the sweet coming-of-age dramedy won hearts around the globe for its beautiful representation of life as a teenager at school coming to grips with the world and one's sexuality, gender and relationships, it was renewed for a second (and third) a month after its debut. The series is based on the graphic novel and webcomic of the same name by Alice Oseman.

In one of its 'Returning Favourites' clips shared in June, Netflix released the opening scene of the sophomoric season, which sees Charlie (Joe Locke) and Nick (Kit Connor) texting as they get ready for school, before being reunited.

Netflix also released the episode names of the upcoming second season, which is based on the third book in Oseman's Heartstopper series:

Episode one – Out Episode two – Family Episode three – Promise Episode four – Challenge Episode five – Heat Episode six – Truth/Dare Episode seven – Sorry Episode eight – Perfect

Here’s what you need to know about Heartstopper season two:

What is the Hearstopper season two release date?

Netflix announced that Heartstopper season two was already in production in September 2022, with the upcoming season hitting Netflix screens on Thursday, August 3.

heartstopper season 2

Who is in the Hearstopper season two cast?

Protagonists Nick (Kit Connor) and Charlie (Joe Locke) will return for the eight-episode second season, as well as actors William Gao, Tobie Donovan, Corinna Brown, Kizzy Edgell, Sebastian Croft, Rhea Norwood, Olivia Colman (Nick’s mother, Sarah), Jenny Walser, and former ELLE UK cover star Yasmin Finney .

Finney previously told us about her character Elle: ‘I admire Elle so much.' Opening up about her own experience as a trans woman, she added: 'I was bullied for being queer at my first high school. At the time I didn't know I was trans, but for Elle to know that she is and to move schools because of that is bravery on another level.’

However, there’s a roster of new actors joining the mix too, including actor Jack Barton, who will play Nick’s older brother, David Nelson, Nima Taleghani (as new schoolteacher Mr. Farouk), Call My Agent! star Thibault de Montalembert, and Bradley Riches. Leila Khan will also play Sahar Zahid after nabbing the role in an open call.

In November 2022, Netflix announced that TikTok sensation Bel Priestley would be joining the cast. ‘Heartstopper S2 news! Introducing Bel Priestley as Naomi,’ the streaming site tweeted.

Priestley reacted to the news, noting on Instagram: ‘Words can’t describe how grateful I am for this opportunity. Thank you to the entire Heartstopper crew & cast for making me feel so welcomed and supported.’

In February, the newcomer opened up a bit more about what fans can expect from her role.

‘I play a girl called Naomi, and I have a strong friendship with Elle,’ she revealed during a panel discussion during National Student Pride. ‘I think [it will] be really nice for everyone to see two trans girls conquering the world.’

The 19-year-old also opened up on TikTok about how the show is ‘breaking more boundaries’ second time around. ‘They’re reaching new audiences, and they’re looking at new things. I’ve seen the trailer, and I’ve watched [it], and it’s going to be amazing. I’m excited for everyone to see it,’ she added.

What will the Heartstopper season two plot be about?

Season two focussed on volumes one and two of the Heartstopper graphic novel series, so we’re expecting the next season will be adapted from volume three and see Nick and Charlie get to grips with their new relationship and embark on a school trip to Paris.

heartstopper season 2

Netflix description of the second season reads: ‘Nick and Charlie navigate their new relationship; Tara and Darcy face unforeseen challenges and Tao and Elle work out if they can ever be more than just friends. With exams on the horizon, a school trip to Paris and a prom to plan, the gang has a lot to juggle as they journey through the next stages of life, love and friendship.’

Will there be a third season of Heartstopper ?

Yes, Netflix previously announced we’re not only getting a second but a third series. ‘We were overjoyed with the global reaction to Heartstopper and can’t wait to continue the story with two more seasons. Watch this space!’ Oseman said at the time.

Is there a Heartstopper season two trailer?

Yes! At the beginning of July Netflix finally released a trailer for season two, and it looks like love is in the air for Charlie, Nick, Tara, Darcy, Elle and Tao during the friends' Paris trip.

Netflix previously released a sneak peek date announcement clip, which we’ve watched several times.

We also have some photos from the upcoming season (see above).

5 Beautiful Love Lessons From Netflix’s ‘Heartstopper’

Callie Byrnes

Love should never involve shame.

There’s a difference between coming to terms with your identity and feeling embarrassed about who you love, and Heartstopper illustrates that quite beautifully. Charlie’s first “boyfriend” was not only closeted but was clearly ashamed of being connected to Charlie at all, even in a social sense. Nick, on the other hand, still wanted to keep his relationship with Charlie a secret at first, but it was never because of who Charlie was or his fear of being connected with him—he was simply trying to figure out his own sexuality and struggling with his fear of being treated differently because of it. In true love, there is no room for shame, only acceptance.

When you love someone, you always want the best for them—even if you know it might be difficult for you in the end.

Part of what’s so beautiful about Charlie and Nick’s relationship is that they both constantly want what’s best for the other. Even when Nick wasn’t ready to make their relationship public, he felt the need to figure out his own emotions as quickly and efficiently as possible so that Charlie wasn’t left suffering the consequences of his indecision. And when Charlie began to see himself as a burden to Nick (no matter how misguided that feeling was), he started distancing himself from Nick, even though it broke his own heart. While I’m not necessarily saying either of these things were right or wrong, they both came from a place of loving the other enough to want the best for them, even when it was uncomfortable or difficult.

The very best relationships involve friendship.

It was clear from the very first episode that Charlie and Nick had feelings for one another, but because neither were really sure where they stood with each other, they were also able to form a really lovely friendship in the meantime. Even when they started dating, they never really stopped being friends—they constantly had fun together and cared deeply enough to check on one another’s emotions pretty consistently. While relationships don’t always have to start as friendships, there’s something to be said about relationships that involve friendship, because love is often a fickle thing but friendship is a stable foundation that helps it grow.

When you love someone, you should be willing to stand up for them (even when it’s scary).

Even before Nick was ready to come out, he was ready to fight for Charlie—even if it meant fighting his own friends. Similarly, Charlie was always quick to defend Nick when his friends insulted him. While I don’t condone physical violence, there’s something to be said about standing up for the person you love when others are readily tearing them down. Because love isn’t just the actions you take when you’re standing face to face with your person—oftentimes, it’s what you do when they aren’t there that matters the most.

Love and understanding go hand-in-hand.

One of the loveliest parts of Heartstopper is the understanding between each of the couples. Charlie understands that Nick is going through his own journey of understanding his own identity, and Nick understands how his actions are affecting Charlie, even when Charlie isn’t willing to admit it. When Tara admits to Darcy that coming out was more difficult than she expected and that she might to some degree regret it, Darcy isn’t offended but instead chooses to listen to Tara and to comfort her. And Tao and Elle’s friendship-turned-budding-relationship is full acceptance for one another, even when they don’t necessarily agree with each other’s actions. Love involves seeing someone for who they truly are, not who you want them to be—and it is only in seeing someone fully that you’re able to understand them.

These are the “Words We Left Behind.”

My favorite memories are the ones that never seem noteworthy—the ones you never tell at parties or recount to your family, the ones that don’t have a plot or a reason. There’s something in those excerpts of life, something so beautifully, achingly human.

These are the moments that matter the most.

These are the words we leave behind.

This debut collection written by Callie Byrnes is bound in a beautifully textured uncoated cover featuring gold leaf foil.

'Heartstopper' Season 3: Cast, new additions, possible plot, release date

'Heartstopper' Season 3: Cast, new additions, possible plot, release date

Netflix 's popular coming-of-age romantic comedy, Heartstopper , is confirmed to return for a third season. The show, based on Alice Oseman's namesake graphic novel series, has enjoyed monumental success across its first two seasons. The original cast, including Joe Locke as Charlie Spring and Kit Connor as Nick Nelson, will return for the new season. Additionally, Darragh Hand will join the series as Michael Holden in the upcoming season. Here's everything to know about it.

'Heartstopper's plot and praise for LGBTQ+ representation

Heartstopper follows the life of UK teen Spring at Truham Grammar School, where he develops a crush on a classmate named Nelson. The series has received praise for its LGBTQ+ representation, notably with Nelson coming out to his mother in the Season 1 finale. The first two seasons covered the first three volumes of Oseman's series, including a trip to Paris in Season 2.

'Heartstopper' Season 3 release date and format

The release date for Heartstopper Season 3 has been confirmed as October 3, 2024. All eight episodes will be available simultaneously on Netflix, a departure from other original series that have opted for a split release. This follows the pattern of the show's second season, which dropped all of its episodes on August 3, 2023. The show has spawned 16 episodes so far as a part of its two-season run.

New cast members joining the show

In addition to the original cast, Heartstopper Season 3 will feature new faces. Bridgerton star Jonathan Bailey will join as Jack Maddox, a scholar of historical literature. MCU alum Hayley Atwell has been added to the cast as Diane, Nelson's aunt. Eddie Marsan is another new addition and will play the role of Geoff, Nelson's therapist. This follows actor Olivia Colman 's announcement that she won't be returning for Season 3 as Nelson's mom.

What can be the plotline?

The conclusion of Heartstopper Season 2 sets the stage for several storylines in the upcoming season. After a challenging dinner with his estranged father and older brother, Nelson decides to publicly come out and posts a picture of him and Spring as a couple. This suggests their relationship will be public in Season 3. Additionally, the second season's finale hinted at Spring's struggle with an eating disorder becoming a major topic in the next season.

The third season will explore mental health concerns

Osman earlier told Metro , "In season two, we started to explore mental health in a big way, and I think it's pretty obvious from the way we leave the season that is going to be a big element of season three." "We're going to continue to look at that in a big way and explore how that affects Nick and Charlie's relationship, and all of the other friendships in the show."

There will be 'new stuff' in the upcoming season

How different will be the storylines of the books and the series? Reacting to this, Osman told EW , "Now that we've got seasons 1 and 2, we've had so much development for the supporting cast: Tao, Elle, Tara, Isaac, even new characters like Imogen." "There's so much new stuff that gives us so much to play with in season 3. The show and the comic feel very separate, although it's quite a faithful adaptation."
