Why Work with a Freelance SEO Content Writer?

It might be tempting to think that writing a blog post or social media post is easy. After all, anyone can write a text message or email.

But writing website content is a very different challenge. Experienced website content writers can save you time and increase the professionalism of your website. Professional content writers are trained in SEO writing, content strategy and keyword research and are able to incorporate the right words into your website or blog article.

Online content provides a way to build trust and grow brand recognition with your audience.

It’s not enough to simply tell people what you do. Your potential clients and customers need to be interested ain your website content. To make this happen you have to help solve their problems, and show how you stand out against the competition.

The dual goal of content marketing is to grow your online search engine rankings and to build trust with those people who read your website content.

We can help you to do both.

How Does a Website Content Writer Help My Business?

The reality is that business owners are too busy running their businesses to do their own blog writing. Or they lack the writing skills to create great quality content. Digital marketing is always evolving and changing, and your website content and blog content need to stay ahead of the changes.

The most important aspect of working with a website content writing service is that they can offer consistency. Everyone knows they should be creating quality content for their potential client or customer, but very few actually do it.

A freelance writer will create a content calendar for your business. This will list each planned blog post, and also keywords, meta description, and other important SEO content information. The content creation calendar will have dates for drafts to be written and publish dates once each blog post has been approved.

Working with our team, we’ll help keep you on track.

How Much Does Content Writing Cost?

You’ve probably noticed there are a lot of different types of content writing services and content marketing agencies offering a large variety of content writing prices.

Some cost as little as $20 per hour, others charge thousands of dollars per article.

it can be confusing to understand content writing costs if you are considering outsourcing.

As a rule, cheap content won’t get results, and great content isn’t cheap. It’s all a matter of finding what works best for you.

A professional writer charging freelance rates will be much higher than a site like UpWork or a content mill . A content marketing agency can typically offer you a project rate that might sound more attractive, but it doesn’t have longevity.

The ideal situation is to work with a blog writing service, content writer, or copywriter who knows your business and can deliver consistent results for you. To keep the content writing cost down, you can negotiate a longer-term agreement with a freelance writer. A professional writer will offer you more than just a blog post. They offer you a consistent way to grow your online presence and connect to your audience.

It’s true that we may not be the cheapest content writers, but we are focused on building long-term value for your business.

How Much Do Content Writing Services Cost In 2022?

seo content writing prices

Figuring out how much you should be paying for freelance writers to create your content can be challenging – since writers price their services differently depending on the kind of content you’re ordering (and how much of it you need).

In this article, we’ll go over the average content writer prices and discuss what you might expect while looking for a freelancer to work with.

Content Writer Prices (In A Nutshell)

How much a freelancer will charge depends a lot on the specific circumstances of both the writer and the job you want them to do. But to give you a quick idea of what you might expect when scoping out a freelancer for your next project, here’s a look at the current industry averages.

Typically, average freelance writer rates can range anywhere from $.05 per word for a writer who is just starting out in the industry, to over $1 per word for the most experienced writers with years of experience. If you work with a freelancer who charges by the hour, you could be looking at an hourly rate that falls anywhere between $16 and over $100 per hour.

These numbers and the numbers you’ll see in the rest of the article are industry averages, and not what we charge at The Content Panel. You’ll find that our freelancers have much clearer rates, and our pricing is much cheaper than what you’ll find in this article.

seo content writing prices

Why Such a Huge Discrepancy with Content Pricing?

We’ve provided you with a vast pricing window that may be hard to make sense of. What makes some writers worth 20 times as much as other writers? The massive range in content writer cost comes down to several factors, including:

Experience.

New writers with less than a year’s worth of experience will charge the lowest rates. As writers get more experience, they start upping their rates, sometimes coming in at a dollar or more per word. But experience isn’t always just about how much time a writer has spent in their profession.

How long a freelancer has been specializing in a specific type of writing, how much time they’ve spent in a specific industry, and how much experience they have with getting proven results for their clients are equally important. These factors all go into the formula for deciding a writer’s experience level that will affect their freelance copywriter rate.

Thoroughness.

A writer getting paid a small fee per job will try to get each task done as quickly as possible. To make a decent wage off $20 blog posts, you have to write a lot of them. For this reason, writers who charge the lowest rates are the most likely to find corners to cut, like proofreading and research.

On the other hand, higher-paid writers will feel comfortable taking their time and paying attention to detail while working on a piece. Higher paid writers are more likely to give you a finished product that requires minimal edits or amendments.

Type Of Writing.

Some writing takes a lot more time and skill to write than others, and the pricing of these projects will reflect that. We’ll go further into detail about the several types of content later in the article.

Complexity And Technicality Of The Subject.

If your business is in a complicated or technical industry, you will need to find a writer with experience in the industry. You might be able to find a writer with less knowledge but who is capable of putting in the research needed to learn the subject well enough to write about it, but you may be required to pay for their research time.

Less technical subjects like video games or food will naturally be easier – and cheaper – to write about than healthcare or coding. If the content you want to be written requires interviews, quotes, or graphic design, your content writer cost is likely to be greater, too.

Location Of The Freelance Writer.

American and British freelance writers tend to cost the most to hire. Writers from other countries are likely to charge a lower rate that will reflect the local cost of living.

The Audience For Your Content.

If you want content geared toward a general audience or people who might not have a lot of knowledge on your topic, your rates will be lower than if you have a topic geared for an expert audience. This is because the more your audience knows, the more your freelance writer needs to know. And as mentioned above, more experience means a higher fee.

Content Writer Costs Depends on the Type of Content

“Content” is an incredibly broad term, and not all content is equal when it comes to difficulty and the amount of skill required to write it. A blog will be a lot cheaper than a whitepaper because to write a white paper, your freelancer will need a certain level of expertise in your industry and will have to do an extensive amount of research. But a generalist would be able to write a great blog post for you without nearly as much research. There’s an extensive list of types of writing you can hire a freelancer to do:

  • Social media content
  • Linkbait articles
  • Landing Pages
  • Whitepapers
  • Video and webinar scripts
  • Sales letters
  • Press releases

All these content types come with different price points because they require varying levels of experience and research. If your freelance writer is providing extra services, you’ll need to account for those while budgeting for the content you want to buy. Some additional services a freelance writer might offer are:

  • SEO keyword research and competitive analysis to help you beat the competition.
  • Technical SEO fixes for your existing website to make it better optimized.
  • Web development to optimize your website for performance and speed. Freelance writers who offer this service must be comfortable with CSS, HTML, JSON, and JavaScript.
  • Link building and digital PR to get your website more backlinks and build your presence on the web.

The way freelance writers charge for these services can be as variable as the services themselves. A basic keyword list might come in as low as $400, or as high as charging nearly $50 per keyword. Meanwhile, comprehensive keyword research and competitive analysis might cost you around $3,500! These services are not always necessary for content writing and depending on your goals, you might not have to plan for them in your budget.

Average Content Writer Costs

To make sense of all the ways freelance content writers might price themselves, it’s best to analyze the fees based on the method the writer will use to calculate their rate. Keep in mind that these numbers are industry averages, and not what we charge. Our pricing is cheaper than you’ll find on this list and the freelancers who work for us have set-in-stone rates per word so you never have to guess how much you’ll be paying.

  • Down payment: 10% to 25% of the total price of the project
  • Monthly retainers: varies based on the volume of anticipated work per month

Which Type of Pricing Strategy is Best?

There are pros and cons to working with freelance writers who use each of the above methods to determine their freelance writer rates. Writers who charge by the word can be trusted not to waste your money. Since their pay is based on their output, you know exactly what you can expect from them and you won’t have to worry about any surprises on your bill. The potential downside to this type of rate is that a writer who charges by the word might focus more on quantity rather than quality.

Most freelance writers tend to charge per project. They’ll give you a fixed cost for the content they’re writing for you that won’t change based on the length of the content. The upside of this pricing strategy is that you know exactly what to expect in terms of pricing. The downside is that you might not know exactly what your writer is doing for that fee, and you can be overcharged without realizing it.

Charging by the hour is a less common approach to pricing by freelancers, but it’s still not uncommon to see. With this fee strategy, you pay your writer based on how long they work on your project. The hourly rate includes the time they spend researching the project before they even start writing. If you know your writer is efficient, this can be a good rate style to agree to. But if you don’t trust your freelance writer to work effectively on your project, they may take longer than they need to and end up overcharging you for the work.

In general, you might not have very much control over how the freelance writers you hire choose to charge you. But at The Content Panel, we charge by the word so you know exactly what you’re getting for your money every time.

Client Relationships Can Affect Freelance Writer Costs

When looking for freelance writers for hire , there are two types of client-freelancer relationships you might have with your content writer.

  • Direct client-freelancer relationships are ones where there are no intermediaries. You will find your freelancer and contact them directly to establish a working relationship. The benefit of this relationship is that there is no “middleman” between you and your freelancer and no additional fee that needs to be paid to a service that you used to find your writer. The downside to this approach is that you have to put in all the leg work to find and vet your content writer, which might be more time-consuming than you think.
  • Indirect client-freelancer relationships use an intermediary, like us! The upside of having an indirect relationship with your freelancer is that you don’t have to put in the work to find the perfect freelancer. The service that you pay to act as intermediary deals with matching you with a writer, which allows you to focus on other aspects of your business. The downside of this kind of relationship is that direct contact with your freelancer might be limited depending on the intermediary you choose.

What to Expect from a Freelance Writer Based on Your Budget

Now that you know what the average content writer’s price range is, it’s time for you to decide how much you want to pay for the content you want based on your budget.

If you have a smaller budget and you’re looking to hire a writer on the lower end of the fee scale, you should expect to work with someone newer in the copywriting industry who will have less experience. That doesn’t mean they won’t be a fantastic writer, but they will lack the type of industry knowledge that comes with years of working in the job. You should expect to spend a bit more time working with them before they get everything exactly right. This might mean guiding them with specific instructions, giving them more time to research, and doing more edits.

If you would rather save more time and effort, but don’t want to spend a ton of money, you’ll be looking at a freelancer in the middle range for pricing. This type of writer will have a few years of experience working as a content writer and will know a decent amount, but not everything. They’ll be a bit more expensive for their experience, but you’ll be able to spend less time working with them overall because they will mostly be able to manage on their own.

If you want to work with a writer on the higher end of the price range, you’ll be getting a writer with several years of experience. This writer has developed a process for doing high-quality work and getting their writing submitted on time. They will give you a product that is finished, or close to finished with minimal edits required. They will probably have some name recognition that will give you a boost by being associated with your brand, and they will have a thorough understanding of the industry you do business in as well as the specific type of writing you need to have done.

Adding content to your website is a key factor in attracting people to your business, but it can be hard to figure out how much you should be paying for content when there’s such a huge range of prices out there. The world of content writing is an expansive one with a seemingly infinite number of types of content and highly variable pricing. What you’ll end up paying for content will depend on what you want your freelance writer to write for you, and how much experience you want them to have before you work with them.

How Much Should You Pay for SEO Content?

How much does great SEO content cost? We surveyed SEO experts to ask how much they spend on SEO content. Plus 11 tips for how to find great writers.

How Much Should You Pay for SEO Content

“How much do you charge?”

As an SEO content writer that works primarily with SEO agencies, I am used to getting this question. And no matter my answer, the responses always remind me a bit of the Goldilocks story…

“That price is too cheap.”

“That price is too high.”

“That price is just right.”

It’s typically a toss up – which often makes me question whether we all know the true value of great SEO content, or whether I’m simply charging too much.

To satisfy my curiosity, I decided to propose the question, “How much do you pay for great SEO content?’ to a 40,000+ member SEO Facebook group .

The answers, as I had expected, were all across the board.

Mixed Opinions: What Is ‘Great’ SEO Content?

The first thing I noticed is that the responders were in disagreement about what was considered “great” SEO content.

While some highlighted the need for “a fully optimized kick-ass piece of content”, others hailed the simplicity of “spun” content that was then optimized by the SEO people themselves.

Some SEO folks expected the content to be publish-ready while others were OK with content that required editing and optimization.

These mixed opinions spurred a rather heated debate over whether SEO pros were overpaying or underpaying for content.

Some were less forgiving about the idea of, say, a $10 blog post…

Facebook comment from SEO Signals Lab

But, ultimately, most responders were in agreement that the end product was what matters.

Great SEO content is content that is written with the user in mind and is thoroughly optimized for search engines. Where someone sources that content, however, depends on a few factors.

Where to Find Great SEO Content Writers

Many SEO pros get to a point where they realize that, from an ROI perspective, writing SEO content themselves is not the best use of their time.

At that point, they are faced with the decision of whether to outsource content or hire a writer in-house.

When one goes the outsourcing route, it can be difficult to know where to look.

Is Fiverr a good option? Facebook groups? College students? Retirees?

The options are nearly endless.

Many Options, Different Prices

Unfortunately, not all writers are created equal.

Many responders complained about the issues of hiring writers from platforms like Fiverr and Upwork, sourcing content from non-English-speaking countries or hiring industry experts who don’t have a writing background.

Some of the top sources listed for finding great SEO writers included:

  • Niche Facebook groups
  • College job boards
  • Referrals (within your network)
  • Content agencies

Even so, all of these sources post widely different rates depending on the:

  • Amount of content.
  • Type of content.
  • Experience of the writer.
  • Level of optimization required.

And a variety of other factors.

Some responders mentioned rates as low as $.02 per word and some as high as $2 per word.

Does the Market Set the Rate?

So, why the wide range in pricing?

Well, it could be said that the market sets the rate.

As the demand for great SEO content goes up, writers who know their value are inclined to charge more – rates that many agencies and companies are willing to pay.

At the same time, writers with the ability to churn out a high volume of content can create a lucrative business for themselves providing low-cost content to agencies.

Quality vs. Quantity – Is It Either/Or?

The variety, therefore, stems from the contrast between quality and quantity.

Some writers are competing on quality, so they charge what agencies are willing to pay. Others are competitive on price, and see the value in turning out more content at a lower rate than their competitors.

While many responders mentioned finding that sweet spot of a low-cost, high-quality writer, some warned that these writers tend not to stay cheap for long.

Once they realize what their competitors are charging (and see how much of an ROI they generate for their clients), they up their prices.

The Cost of Great SEO Content – Depends on the Goal

Therefore, many SEO pros came to the conclusion that what they (and others) are willing to pay should come down to the results they are hoping to generate from that content.

They were willing to invest less money on content that served a primary purpose of either attracting links or gaining the attention of search engines because it was more difficult to assign a monetary value to those gains.

Basically, why invest $$$ in content if you don’t intend to make money off of it.

Content for a Clear ROI

Others, however, reminded people that traffic or links are rarely the end goal of SEO content. Most websites hope to generate leads and sales.

Therefore, if even 1 conversion through a piece of content was enough to offset the cost of the content, what was worth it in their eyes? $2,000 in sales for a $150 blog post?A no-brainer.

All that being said, some SEO professionals are willing to settle with OK content knowing that they will need to edit and optimize it themselves. If not a huge inconvenience, perhaps this is worth it.

My question is, though:

Is the cost of one’s own labor more or less than how much it would cost to hire a skilled writer to begin with?

No one was able to answer this question.

SEO Pros Answer: ‘How Much Do You Pay for SEO Content?’

  • $100-$125 for 600-750 words.
  • $40 for 500 words.
  • $5-$10 per article.
  • $.10-$.20 per word.
  • $35 per article.
  • $.02 per word.
  • $4 per 100 words.

These were just some of the many responses I received to my question, “How much do you pay for great SEO content?” The answers ranged from $.02 per word to $2 per word.

Screenshot of comments in SEO Signal Lab Facebook group

Unfortunately, there was no clear majority answer to this question.

Members of SEO Signals Lab Facebook group discussing cost of SEO content.

Some SEO pros insisted that there was no use in paying top dollar for SEO content, while others insisted that a high-quality SEO writer was worth their weight in gold.

Even some writers chimed in to share how much they charge – or how much they think other writers should charge.

Now, one could draw the conclusion that the real answer to this question (like most questions in the SEO space) is, “It depends.”

This may be true, to some extent. But, it’s always helpful to consider the numbers when it comes to making any informed decisions regarding your SEO strategy.

How to Budget for SEO Content

When sourcing content for your clients, you need a proper estimate so that you don’t go over budget. Therefore, it’s nearly impossible to rely on a value-based pricing structure. You need to know how much a writer charges right out the gate.

That makes investing in SEO content a bit of a risk, especially if it comes at a high price tag.

You’ll likely charge your own fee on top of that, and you don’t want to waste your client’s money on content that doesn’t generate results.

For these reasons, it’s worth doing your research to see the going rate for different types of SEO content.

In my experience (supported by many responders in the poll), the average rate for “great” SEO content tends to be between $.08-$.20 per word.

However, it’s not uncommon for writers to charge per page or per post – with the main reason being that a piece of content should be as long as it needs to be in order to be effective.

Great SEO Content Is an Investment

When I first started out in SEO content writing, I charged $.10 per word. This was because I had experience in the field, knew how much I wanted to be compensated for my time, and knew how much other SEO writers were charging.

I knew that I didn’t want to compete on the basis of price. I wanted my value to be apparent. I wanted to generate tangible results for my clients. I knew that my results needed to justify the cost.

As I built my portfolio, the value that I provided became even more apparent.

“We made it to page 1 for a 90,000 volume keyword”.

“Because of your article, someone reached out to feature us on TV”.

“This landing page brought us two leads this week” (a $2,000 value).

These results were gathered via conversion tracking, client testimonials, and self-reported leads generated through content.

Great SEO Writers *Typically* Charge More

Soon it became apparent that I should be charging more. The leads I generated for my clients were often valued at $1,000 or more. I was charging about $100 per post.

My experience also taught me how to evaluate who would be a good fit for my services. If their only goal was “more traffic”, it was a pass. If they wanted more – links, leads, sales, brand exposure, opportunities – then I was on board.

Do the Results Justify the Costs?

All of this is to say that no matter what you spend on SEO content, you should consider things in terms of ROI. If you envision generating thousands of dollars per lead from a blog post, a $300 investment doesn’t seem so unreasonable.

While it’s possible to find that “sweet spot” – high-quality and cheap – these writers are not the norm.

By opting for cheap content, you often run the risk of getting spun content, content that isn’t written with your target audience in mind, or content that it’s correctly optimized.

At the same time, high-quality writers are likely to charge more because they know how much their value is worth.

How to Decide How Much to Invest in SEO Content

With “expensive” writers, there can appear to be higher stakes – but the return could also be far greater than you imagined.

The key, then, is to assess the risk and work with writers that have a good reputation for generating clients a clear ROI .

How much you decided to invest in SEO content should depend primarily on what you want to achieve with your content.

Then, it’s a matter of finding a writer that can generate those results for you, and assessing whether the potential payoff is worth the investment.

11 Tips for How to Find Great Writers

Here are some tips for how to find SEO writers that will generate results that justify your investment.

  • Reach Out to Your Network:  I highly recommend reaching out to your existing network to find writers that have a track record of proven results. A referral from someone within your industry is even better, ask what their experience was like working with the writer and what results they were able to generate.
  • Speak to the Writer Directly:  Many businesses order content online without having a direct conversation with the writer – and by “direct” I mean a phone call or video chat. A lot can be lost in translation via email or messenger. As much as you are looking for a writer with the right skills, you want to be sure they are a good character fit. Communication is important
  • Ask to See Examples:  Always ask to see examples of their work – particularly work that relates to your niche. Just note that stealing content examples is common practice online, so you don’t always know what you are getting. If they can send you an example with their name in the byline, that’s a safe bet.
  • Look for Case Studies and Reviews:  Search their site (if they have one) for case studies or reviews. These will make it evident what kind of results they have been able to generate for their clients.
  • Assess Their SEO Knowledge:  You may not expect your writer to be an SEO pro, but if you are looking to source SEO-friendly content, they should at least know the basics. It’s appropriate to ask them a few questions about their expertise or to ask to see example work related to SEO.
  • Ask How They Measure Success:  Many writers will not know how to answer this question, or will answer with something like “more traffic”. Really, success can be measured in a variety of ways and it should depend on what you, the client, wants to achieve. A great SEO writer should be able to communicate this, and hopefully, speak in terms of ROI.
  • Understand Their Pricing Structure:  Not every writer charges per word. In fact, this is becoming less of the norm because aiming for an arbitrary word count often doesn’t do a topic justice. Whether they charge per word, per page, or per project, make sure you thoroughly understand their pricing structure before you invest.
  • Know What’s Provided in Their Services:  Some SEO writers only include the content and the H1 and H2 tags. Others include all on-page SEO. Even further, some provide keyword research or content planning. Ask what their services include and what needs to be provided by you.
  • Are Edits Included?:  You should also know whether edits and/or rewrites are included. Complete rewrites are rare, as writers are essentially writing an entirely new piece without compensation. It’s common for writers to offer one round of edits and/or a refund if they miss the mark.
  • Know Their Refund Policy:  Some writers offer refunds, others do not. Know this from the beginning (and get it in writing) before you find yourself in a pickle.
  • Set Expectations:  Hiring a writer is like any other professional relationship in the sense that there are typically expectations from the beginning. Know what’s expected of you, make sure they know what’s expected of them, and outline a clear process when it comes to creating content together.

Final Thoughts

Clearly, there are mixed opinions on what constitutes “great” content, and how much great content costs.

Ultimately, it comes down to how much you are willing to invest in order to achieve the results you want.

I recommend researching your options, outlining clear expectations with your writer from the beginning, and building a relationship of clear communication and mutual benefit.

Determine Which Services are Worth the Investment

Seo pricing guide:, agency, consulting, internal resources, software, and more.

One of the top questions we consistently get asked: Should I invest in SEO and if so, how much do I need to invest? We surveyed the SEO community – agencies and enterprises – and asked them this very question: How much do you invest in SEO?

The range of answers varied widely, from $2,000 per month to more than $20,000 per month . In response, we wanted to answer this question in a way that paints a complete picture of the costs involved.

We’ve read every SEO pricing guide out there and have covered it all, from the cost of technology to internal team resources to full-service SEO agencies, and even the different costs in local SEO and eCommerce SEO.

How Much Does SEO Cost?

SEO pricing and SEO plans vary widely due to the different needs that businesses have.

To determine the cost of SEO for your enterprise business, you must carefully weigh the different options available and consider their potential value.

The best answer is that it depends . It's so frustrating, and you can see why - companies invest anywhere from $2,000 to $20,000 per month! But, there’s a reason: so much goes into the cost of SEO.  In general, SEO costs between $750–$2,000 per month based on the scope of the project. For enterprise-level companies, pricing starts at $2,000 per month. SEO software for keyword rank tracking costs between $500–$4,500 per month (depending on the number of keywords tracked), and rates for consultants fall between $500–$3,000 for a monthly retainer.

There is no single cookie-cutter SEO pricing package for every organization. Moreover, you should be very wary of any agency, consultant, or tools provider that tells you otherwise!

Your SEO plan is dependent on your current search visibility .

For instance, the launch of a new brand requires a particular strategy when it comes to search engine optimization, digital marketing, social media, and PPC management.

This strategy will be inherently different from that of a company that already has brand awareness within that product category.

SEO Pricing v1.0__ROI of SEO

Be aware that when it comes to shopping for SEO, you get what you pay for.

Pricing models vary: most services are priced according to an agency’s monthly retainer, single project free, fixed-price contract, or an hourly fee for agreed-upon work.

Depending on the size of your organization and whether you have an in-house team of SEO experts, you may save money by opting for the tools or technology that directly align with your goals and training your own team to use them effectively.

For example, you might need a tool that helps streamline content creation for what your target audience is searching for, a tool for auditing the health of your company’s backlinks when launching a link building campaign, or even a keyword tool that helps you survey competitors for keyword opportunities.

The specific services and tools you choose should depend on what will add the most ROI for your organization.

SEO as an Investment

Potential customers are searching for your services. If you aren’t at the top of your SEO game, they will find a competitor to answer their queries and sell them products and services instead.

Optimizing for keywords that prospective customers are searching for helps capture market share and expand your target audience.

In order to reach these prospective customers through organic search, you need to align this demand with an investment into SEO strategy, content, and an approach to creating the best search experience .

The way you think about SEO also matters.

But how can you determine which services are essential for your organization and fit within your budget?

Read on to discover the tools you should be looking for as well as an overview of the different SEO companies that offer them and the typical pricing for all external SEO services and internal resources.

CostvsValue

Cost vs. Value for SEO Services

When comparing services, begin by conducting market research and opportunity analysis around audience demand.

Use search volume along with a formula to calculate the potential for increased traffic, conversion, and anticipated revenue.

Then, weigh that anticipated revenue with the cost of the service to determine if the plan adds value to your organization .

If you’re just starting your journey to find which SEO services are right for your company, it’s important to carefully weigh the cost and value of the SEO pricing plan you’re considering in order to determine ROI.

Services to Include in Your SEO Roadmap

1. rank tracking.

Rank tracking is an essential investment because it helps you determine if your SEO tactics are making an impact. Rankings demonstrate the success of your SEO campaigns and reveal problems with search visibility early on.

How much does Rank Tracking Cost?

Rank tracking is essentially free, if you don't need to scale – just use Google and start manually counting, or leverage Google Search Console’s average position data. There are even free ranking tools.

But, if you need scalable, reliable rank tracking, you should expect to pay. For example, an SEO package with 5,000 keyword queries, rank checked weekly is around $1,250–$1,800 per month.

→ Key Factors to Evaluate in Keyword Ranking Tools

2. PC (Google AdWords) and Organic Integration

Tools that integrate paid and organic search campaigns funnel keyword pricing and conversion data into organic search, making use of both data sets.

Another benefit: by targeting high-performing search terms through paid ads and organic search , your page has the chance to show up more than once within the same search results.

How much does PPC Integration Cost?

Google AdWords data can easily be extracted to compare to your top-ranking keywords in organic.

It takes time to collect that data and integrate it with your organic search data to discover opportunities and gaps. seoClarity integrates your Google AdWords account so you can easily compare data and find opportunities for integration between the two channels.

3. Reporting, Dashboards, and Analytics

When determining the current SEO health of a website, SEO experts use a tool to accelerate their output. These dashboards and reports highlight high-performing pages as well as pain points to adjust.

They also keep an eye on how competitors are performing in search. A dashboard brings this wealth of information into one convenient control panel for easy monitoring.

How much does SEO Reporting Cost?

SEO reporting usually includes the cost of time spent. Either an agency is supporting you and reporting is included in your SEO package, or you are using different tools and pulling this reporting together.

There are providers (like seoClarity!) that let you build a report once for each team or executive and have it sent automatically at the frequency of your choice.

4. Content Engagement from Your Social Media

Determine if you are reaching your target audience on all platforms by collecting data on content engagement. These tools track content performance and perform tests to increase engagement.

Creating content for engagement helps your business reach a larger audience, resulting in more backlinks and higher conversion rates.

How much does a Social Media Campaign Cost?

The main cost is the t ime investment of posting and monitoring your social media. At an enterprise level, this isn't typically in the SEO budget, but rather a team that you should integrate with to optimize your content for both SEO and social.

5. Technical SEO

Technical SEO analyzes how search engines’ robots crawl and index your site. An SEO audit uncovers potential problems and gives you a chance to course-correct before errors impact your site’s ranking.

How much Does Technical SEO Cost?

A year’s subscription to Screaming Frog, an SEO crawler, costs about $200 a year. An agency may crawl a site regularly to identify new issues and determine fixes in a retainer setup for a minimum of $500–$750 per month.

6. On-Page and Off-Page Optimization

On-page optimization involves optimizing the parts of your own website that you can control, from web design and coding to page titles and on-page copy.

This might include alt-tags, page metas and even the URL structure. Off-page optimization refers to ranking factors that occur off of your website.

For instance, having backlinks from another website impacts your site authority.

How much do SEO Optimizations Cost?

The cost of SEO optimizations is based on the time you invest in completing them. Technology helps make the process faster to identify and implement.

Creating a scalable and consistent outreach process for backlinks requires investment in the strategy, investment in time for trial and error, and investment in content to create link-worthy pages.

7. Link Building

Analyzing the links that lead to your site as well as those that lead to competitors helps you determine opportunities for improving your site’s authority.

Likewise, a link building analysis helps you disavow incoming links from websites that may harm your business’s reputation.

How much does Link Building Cost?

A link audit and strategy can be done as a one-off project for $1k+ with freelancer help or as part of an agency offering. From those results, there may be several link building tactics to act on.

If the tactic involves outreach, additional tools like hunter.io to can help find contact info (starting at $200 plus extracts for email address).

If you're looking to get in front of traditional journalists, HelpAReporterOut is useful at $50 for the middle package. To pay a freelancer or agency to do the work for you, expect to pay around $50 for a quality link after a sound tactical approach and targets are established.

8. Keyword Research

Keyword research helps focus content creation on topics that your target audience and customers are looking for, capturing their attention at different points in the search funnel.

How much does Keyword Research Cost?

A keyword research tool on its own costs about $200–$500 per month, depending on the number of queries you need.

But you should also consider the cost of the time it takes to analyze keywords/topics and prioritize which to create SEO campaigns for. We are estimating this task will take around 8-12 hours every month.

In an SEO campaign, you need to  identify a topic that your target audience will find valuable and create content on landing pages or pillar pages that support that topic.

SEO tools help strategists optimize pages for short- and long-tail keywords that drive traffic, while a sound content marketing strategy ensures the content reaches your audience.

→ What Are the Best Keyword Research Tools?

9. SEO Campaigns

How much does an seo campaign cost.

It’s hard to put an exact cost to this because many parts of prepping your SEO campaign (i.e. topic research, content writing, etc.) lead up to launching and testing your SEO campaign.

Refer to the costs listed above to get an idea of what an entire campaign would cost.

Value of an SEO Platform CTA

Costs of Content Creation and Content Marketing

As SEO and content go hand in hand, it’s important to allocate budget for the creation and promotion of original writing that targets your searchers’ demand.

Paying for quality writing is an aspect of the SEO budget that is often overlooked. However, all traffic-driving pages require content to support your customers' journey and inform search engines about your page.

Modern crawlers and robots are adept at uncovering the semantic meanings of the text provided and using that information to determine its value to searchers.

Additionally, when it comes to articles and blog posts also shared on social media, the quality and relevancy of the content affects the users' experience and the likelihood that they will engage with it and share it.

If your team works with an in-house content team, content creation and management may not fall within the SEO budget.

However, if you plan on outsourcing SEO to an agency, be sure to ask if content creation is part of the package, and moreover, who will be responsible for creating your website’s content and managing it in your CMS or though WordPress.

Content Creation Pricing

Naturally, different expertise levels, commitments, and the cost of living where you're located result in different expected salaries.

Entry-level content writer: $35,000–$50,000 annual salary

Content Strategist with at least 5 years of experience: $55,000–$75,000 annual salary

Director of Content or Direction of Communications: $90,000+ annual salary dependent on experience.

Freelance writers: $0.20–$0.30/word for basic blog posts, but up to $1.25 per word depending on the expertise level and the depth of experience and type of content creation that’s needed.

Writing Services: Often these services require a minimum content package or monthly fee. A content package might include a commitment to 10 commissioned pieces per month at a set rate.

This is charged per piece or per word and varies starting at $100 per piece and up to $800 if it's a comprehensive guide or blog post.

Monthly fees work to retain their services and are typically added in addition to a specific price per piece. For example, WriterAccess charges a subscription of $39 per month and then members can get content written for $100–$300 on topics that most writers have some level of knowledge of.

If you opt for writing services as a solution, you still need someone in-house to manage and provide a steady stream of content briefs and content ideas.

Content Distribution

A content distribution strategy  tends to cost between $500 and 1,500+ per month. This is above and beyond the general responsibility of SEOs, but may help increase visibility. Think of this as a bucket of investments.

This is supportive and additional to bring even more visibility to your organic search efforts.

This investment gets you started so you can test your way into what drives the best results for your company.

A platform that adds boxes containing links to sponsored content on existing web pages. The allocation of these links is based on content relevance and the target audience.

Social Media

Sharing content across your social media channels or through paid social advertising helps you reach existing and prospective customers with products and information.

Email Newsletter/Promotion

Sharing a digest of your new content that links back to your site directly with subscribers increases page views.

A platform that uses real-time bidding to help content marketers reach their target audience through paid advertising.

A website where experts in a field can share their expertise with reporters working on related stories. In exchange, selected experts may ask to have information about their websites shared as part of the story, earning a backlink and increasing their authority on the topic.

“Content creation is the key to SEO. Without a partnership with your content writers and strategists, you should not be investing in the rest of SEO.”

Maybe you already have a dedicated SEO team who need tools that can inform their work — fine-tuning your strategy so your practices run more efficiently.

Or, you might be looking to add SEO tracking and reporting into your workflow. Either way, bringing your SEO tools in-house allows your business a customized approach to search engine optimization.

By opting for SEO software rather than an external consultant or team, you can access data as needed. In addition, you can advise the launch of a new product and support continual content creation, adjust and test new optimizations, and collect insights about your competitors’ search data.

The Cost of SEO Platforms

SEO Pricing v1.0__Software_cropped

An SEO platform provides a solution that covers the entire SEO lifecycle, while SEO tools allow your team to focus on the individual reporting and data pieces they need.

SEO software costs depend on the size and needs of your business.

Most SEO package prices begin around $2,500–$3,000 per month. However, the price depends on your number of domains, as well as the quantity and frequency of tracked keywords you need to rank check.

Adding domains is an additional cost, while SEO keyword rank checks typically cost $0.10/each to $0.30/each for weekly rankings.

Often times, SEO software providers offer SEO pricing packages with established minimums for keywords and domains, so you can choose the one that best fits your organization’s needs.

These offerings also differ based on the included features, which take the size of the company into consideration and base the included features off those that would typically suit a business of that size.

However, these standard packages may be added on or customized to fit an organization’s needs, goals, or upcoming strategy. And now for the shameless plug: at seoClarity, we offer a robust SEO platform designed for enterprise businesses.

The Cost of SEO Tools

Additionally, SEO tools may be chosen and paid for individually. Commonly referred to as point solutions, these tools specialize in one specific part of the SEO life cycle. They can be helpful when working on a specific area that is contributing negatively to your search visibility.

Usually, companies begin their SEO journey here. They use the basics like Semrush or Moz to get started with rank tracking and/or keyword research. Then, they usually add on a site analysis tool like Screaming Frog.

If you're just starting to create an SEO strategy, these point solutions may be more aligned with your price range. But they still come at a cost.

The good news is that there are many free SEO tools on the market that can be a good starting point.

Tool kits often (but not always) include online training and call center support for those team members who need to use them. That way, your team grows to use the tools to their full capacity in a way that’s fine-tuned to suit the company’s SEO goals.

Tool kits usually don’t offer hands-on support. That's what you get from an SEO platform.

Another point: when you invest in SEO software, you also receive the benefit of frequent updates, additional offerings and beta access to new features.

Price: Basic rank tracking tools, SEO analysis tools, and keyword research tools can start at as little as $99 per month each, but this includes limitations in queries, reporting, and analysis capabilities.

With this approach, collecting, connecting and downloading data is a common practice. We typically see companies invest anywhere between $500–$2,500 across these different point solutions.

(Warning: Depending on the number of keyword queries need for rank tracking, it can make this cost skyrocket out of this range.)

SEO Price Per Keyword

Most, if not all, keyword rank tracking operates on a pricing model dependent on the number of keywords and domains. This is the first step in the process of establishing an overall cost per keyword.

Prices are also dependent on the data provider themselves — different providers have different levels of accuracy, reliability, and scalability — all of which impact their pricing models.

Looking beyond the provider, you'll need to examine what information you need to achieve your goals as well. Do you need ranking data for all 100 SERP results?

How about localized, geo-specific ranking data (i.e. city, state, zip code)? And across what devices? This is where the conversation changes from keyword to keyword search query .

While a keyword is a word or phrase in your web content that people search for, a keyword search query is a single keyword rank tracked for a single search engine, on a single device, in a single location, in a single language, for a single domain. The keyword search query can go by different names in the industry, but this pricing model is common across all the major SEO technologies.

We know it's a lot to take in, but these numerous variables all affect the price of SEO. At the end of the day: Cost depends on a wide range of factors!

Whether you’re debating between funding an in-house team or are opting for an SEO agency or consultant, know that the costs associated with these different options vary widely.

SEO companies have widely-varying pricing models, which makes SEO pricing change based on the vendor(s) you choose and your own company's specific needs.

Keep reading to learn what you can expect to pay, as well as some of the advantages and disadvantages of each SEO resource.

In-House SEO Teams

Price:  Varies depending on team makeup.

An in-house SEO team has some clear advantages over an external agency. Namely, they work full-time with your organization’s interests in mind. With the time spent on-site, they gain important industry knowledge that helps them make the best decisions for your organization.

Expect to pay a $40,000–$85,000 salary for an SEO analyst, depending on their experience level. The salary of an SEO typically falls between $57,000 and $70,000.

An SEO manager typically earns a salary of $60,000–$150,000, while a director of search and acquisition, responsible for both paid and natural search, earns $120,000–$190,000 annually.

SEO Consulting

Price: Project-based cost structure, typically with retainers ranging from $500–$3,000 per month; hourly rates range from $50–$350.

If your enterprise business doesn’t have an in-house SEO team yet, consultants offer their expertise on a project-by-project basis.

This option also works well for an organization with a small SEO team who is working on a large-scale project and may require extra help to complete it before a looming deadline.

Consultants work on projects with your on-site SEOs, bringing their years of experience into the workflow.

The cost structure for consulting is based on the project. For instance, if you’re looking for a site audit, expect to pay between $500–$2,000. If you need link building instead, expect to pay about $1,000 per month or per link acquired.

Looking for something smaller scale? Consider booking based on hourly rates. For example, if you’re working on a website relaunch and need new page optimizations, a rate of $50–$350 per hour may work better with your budget.

However, it’s important to remember that with SEO, you get what you pay for. Consultants who charge higher rates often have proven results, valuable years of experience, or an area of specialty that will make an impact on your site.

Price: Ranges from $12,000 to $1 million per year.

An SEO agency is an off-site team that handles your SEO needs on a monthly or by-project basis. Companies without a dedicated SEO team often rely on agencies to fill this gap in their own expertise.

An agency team often contains a variety of specialists in analytics, link-building, optimization, and content creation. They can also work alongside an in-house team and even provide training to full-time employees while handling some of the SEO workflow as you build a new team from the ground up.

Are you considering hiring an SEO agency to handle a new project, train a new in-house team, produce quality content, or acquire links to your website?

An agency can provide SEO help for a site or product launch. Agencies, especially large ones, are process-driven and deliver consistent results. Expect to pay around the full-time equivalent of building out an in-house team. With most agencies, a monthly retainer is required to maintain the contract.

SEO agency pricing is often shared though blended hourly rates; however, the amount of individual expertise each member of the team brings to your project can vary greatly depending on the agency’s composition.

You may overpay for some services included within the package deal while others, such as content creation, may require an additional cost.

The price of an agency varies according to their experience level, reputation, and positioning as specialists in your field. The cost is further determined by the scope of the work, based on the size of your organization and particular SEO needs.

Combining Technology and Services

Look for combination technology and services as an option for those enterprise businesses that want access to their SEO data and reporting, or for those companies who are building a dedicated organic search team with agency support.

SEO platforms offer short-term or advanced services in addition to the technology – from onboarding and training that teaches you to use the platform to more personalized support designed to identify the SEO game plan with the quickest results.

The top SEO platforms offer a dedicated Client Success team member to make sure you get the most from the technology. Unlike most tools providers, seoClarity provides tailored support through Client Success and SEO Professional Services, ensuring users get the most ROI from the platform.

In contrast, pay-as-you-go SEO tools might only offer online resources and call center or online chat support.

“In more than a decade of my career, I think I've seen it all. You can decide to invest nothing in SEO or a million dollars. What is the compound growth in SEO worth to you? Pricing for SEO varies so widely whether it's an in-house team or external resources. The point? Just invest something."

Seo Verticals and Tracks

National seo.

Focusing on national SEO for both broader terms and long-tail keywords provides a return on revenue and rank position.

Aiming for a national audience requires frequent rank tracking, monitoring and research to improve or maintain first-page position, in addition to content creation, optimization and digital marketing so your content reaches its audience.

Lastly, technical SEO provides an easy user experience for both prospective customers and search engine crawlers.

If your business operates a brick-and-mortar location where foot traffic matters, gains in local SEO can have a big impact on your revenue. Remember when location pages on a site were the only place you could find details about a business?

Now, Google Business Profile has taken over (though those location pages are still an important source of traffic).

However, having your location and business hours available on many websites increases the margin for error. Investing in location management software (such as Yext) that lets you sync your large or small business’s information across local directories and search engines can result in a $100,000 investment.

A local SEO tool like LocalClarity helps automate these processes, increasing traffic, providing for a better user experience and getting customers in your door.

Most platforms charge per location so it’s important to find a technology partner that offers a comprehensive set of forward-looking services with an emphasis on customer engagement (customer reviews & response, Q&A, posts, images, videos, categories, attributes, sentiment analysis, etc.) and less of a focus on static data (location name, address, phone number, and web address).

Price of Local SEO Tools

Many industry players operate in the $20–$30 per location range, even businesses with 1,000+ locations.

This is often the case when a platform designed for sole-proprietors is being tasked with handling scale. Enterprise grade platforms, like LocalClarity, start at $8 per location and provide volume pricing starting at 200 locations.

Your local SEO shopping list should include the following to make sure your large or small businesses are accessible to your local customers:

  • Present your business and storefront consistently across Google platform services, including in search results and Google Maps with a management tool such as LocalClarity.
  • Look for a tool like LocalClarity that lets you respond to new reviews and track customer rankings from various sources (Google, Facebook, TripAdvisor, Yelp, etc.) all in one place.
  • Monitor and respond to the Google Q&A questions people are asking about your brand. With the right tools, you will no longer need to visit each location’s Knowledge Panel to read and answer the questions consumers are asking.
  • Improve your rank in local search for traffic-driving keywords through map stacking, Google Maps rankings and rank tracking. For business with 100+ locations, seoClarity offers local rank tracking, local map pack results, and Google Maps rankings at scale for businesses focused on driving foot traffic.
  • Monitor your ranking in the local SERP by city, zip code or state. The marketplace charges for these rank checks and keyword checks per location, so support your investment with a team by implementing tactics and creating strategies from the ranking data.
  • Control your business listings with a service or tool that automates the process of updating information and removes duplicate or closed locations.

Ecommerce SEO

If you’re running an eCommerce site, you want your product pages to rank for incremental long-tail keywords so potential customers can easily discover your brand through organic search.

Ranking for long-tail keywords targets users closer to the buying phase of the search funnel, which means a greater percentage of sales result from those site visits.

If you want visibility in the competitive eCommerce search landscape, you need a tool that helps target those specific keywords phrases most relevant to your products. That way, you capture that search traffic and revenue directly.

Multi-faceted navigation lets Google index filtered pages so the searcher lands directly on the spot closest to the funnel leading to conversion and allows you to gain traffic directly to your product category pages.

An SEO platform helps you discover which keywords have search volume, optimize those pages and offer them to Google for indexing while avoiding duplicates. Products such as Bloomreach, YourAmigo and Searchdex specifically target long-tail keywords for your SEO business.

Price of Ecommerce SEO

The price for ecommerce SEO ranges depending on the size of the site’s inventory. Providers charge on a cost-per-click or a percent of sales that originate from pages created by the software. Startup costs can be between $1,000–$3,000.

Then, continued monthly costs depend on how much traffic and sales result.

A general understanding of ROI is that a product should earn more than it costs. With search engine optimization, however, it can be difficult to pinpoint exactly what that return on investment looks like (there are so many variables and things change so fast, after all).

While better SEO is correlated with increased revenue, the effects of optimizing a website or creating new content are not immediate.

Instead, these ventures lead first to rank improvements within the SERP. This increased visibility then drives more traffic to the website, which in turn increases revenue. For more on proving ROI in SEO , read about the short- and long-term gains that organic search can bring.

SEO and Efficiency

For better ROI, you need to identify tactics that make efficient use of time and resources. If you don't invest in SEO from the get-go or aren't investing the right amount, you might only be creating more trouble for yourself at a later date.

It’s always easier to make SEO part of your initial plan or design than it is to alter parts of your website to optimize for better SEO later.

Additionally, if you don't consider user demand upfront, you might miss an opportunity to own the SERP from the beginning. These decisions make a huge difference especially when it comes to new product launches and search visibility.

For a relaunch or redesign, prioritizing for the best technical site experience up front also makes valuable use of a developer’s time. Otherwise, having your IT team make the necessary changes afterward causes only more headaches.

This includes providing the necessary specifications as early as possible in the process. It minimizes the added time cost of making last-minute changes or reworking a completed project.

The same applies to content creation. Providing content creators with targeted keywords before they start writing allows the content to be tailored specifically to those search queries.

Having all of the necessary information as early as possible in an SEO project helps ensure that projects are completed efficiently and on schedule.

What is the Value of Your SEO Investment

Your investment into SEO returns both short-term and long-term impact. In the immediate, auditing and cleaning up your website delivers a clearer user experience while keeping search engine crawlers happy.

Removing or reallocating duplicate content as well as creating  new content helps avoid content gaps while ensuring your audience reaches your most accurate and helpful articles.

These improvements increase your position in the SERP and help bring more users to your site (while eliminating frustrations they may have found from broken redirects and links).

Long-term SEO impacts result from building out new content through traffic-driving keywords, and then constantly monitoring your website’s performance.

By identifying gaps, you can focus on the full funnel, from informational to transactional content, which allows you to meet your audience where they are in their buying journey.

Measuring the ROI of SEO Campaigns

When debating the different price points and determining your focus, it’s important to measure for ROI to understand the potential gains that come from your investment of time and money.

First, determine your traffic potential. You can identify your traffic potential through SEO forecasting manually or by using a tool. Your traffic potential allows you to identify keywords with the highest earning potential based on current and forecasted traffic.

SEO Pricing v1.0__Cost vs Value

SEO pricing and plans vary widely between organizations and are largely dependent on the particular goals of that organization.

Those with an in-house SEO team may only require a suite of SEO tools to better improve their presence in organic search.

Other organizations may prefer to work with an SEO agency or consultant to achieve their goals while lending support and expertise.

However, the strategies and tools needed also differ according to the particular vertical targeted, whether national, local or ecommerce SEO.

Whichever way you go, the cost for SEO should be supported through keyword research and analysis of your current website in order to bring a return on your investment.

SEO Pricing FAQ

How much does seo cost.

In general, costs range between $750–$2,000 per month based on the scope of the project.   For enterprise level companies, SEO pricing starts at $2,000 per month .

SEO software for keyword rank tracking costs between $500–$4,500 per month depending on the number of keywords tracked, and rates for consultants fall between $500–$3,000 for a monthly retainer.

Is SEO worth it?

A successful SEO plan can achieve a higher ROI than other earned media channels. A general understanding of ROI is that a product should earn more than it costs.

However, due to the ever-changing nature of the search landscape and the long-term game of search engine optimization, it’s sometimes harder to understand what a return on investment looks like for SEO.

We've worked with some pretty great brands over the years who have seen some massive results from SEO. See the successes for yourself over on our  case studies page .

Why is SEO so expensive?

Proper SEO requires tools, talent, and training. All of these assets combine to give you a strong organic search presence. Different companies may find that they have different needs, and the SEO services they need will impact the amount they spend on SEO.

SEO Writing

Brian Dean

Written by Brian Dean

What Is SEO Writing?

SEO writing (also known as “writing for SEO”) is the process of planning, creating, and optimizing content with the primary goal of ranking in search engines like Google. It includes taking steps like keyword research, crafting top-notch content aligned with user intent, and organizing content under headers to allow for page crawling.

Why Is SEO Writing Important?

It’s no secret that to rank in Google awesome content is KEY.

That said: just pumping out high-quality content isn’t enough.

For your content to rank, it also needs legit search engine optimization .

Put another way:

Amazing content + solid on-page SEO = SEO writing.

Amazing Content + On-Page SEO = SEO Writing

It’s not a dry technical thing; it’s where creativity meets strategy.

Think seamlessly weaving in those keywords, fine-tuning meta tags, and structuring your content to charm both users and search engines.

What is the Difference Between SEO Writing and Content Writing?

SEO writing is about using the right words and phrases so that search engines know what your website is about.

Content writing is like a story that tells people why they should visit your website. It’s about creating interesting and useful information that people will want to read.

Best Practices for Incorporating SEO In Your Writing

I’m peeling back the layers on how to seamlessly weave SEO magic into your writing. Let’s dig into the practical tips for making your content not just seen but loved by both users and algorithms.

Generate a List of Content Topics

It may sound strange, but the SEO writing process starts before you write a single word.

That’s because, to succeed with SEO and content marketing, you need to write content that your target audience cares about .

When you do that, the entire process gets 10x easier.

Here are two ways to find topics for your SEO-focused content.

Use a Q&A tool

Finding questions that your target customer asks online is KEY.

Because you can answer those questions with your content.

You can manually look for questions on sites like Reddit and Quora.

Quora questions

But this takes a ton of time and effort. To speed things up, I recommend a nice little free tool called Answer The Public .

AnswerThePublic – Homepage

This tool scrapes the internet for questions that people have around the topic you type into it.

AnswerThePublic – Results – SEO writing

Pretty cool.

Check out Wikipedia

Specifically: Wikipedia’s table of contents section.

Seriously Wikipedia’s table of contents is a topic idea goldmine.

For example, let’s say you run a blog about digital marketing.

Well, you’d head over to the social media marketing page on Wikipedia.

Wikipedia – Social media marketing page

As you can see, the contents section contains a bunch of interesting topic ideas.

Wikipedia contents

Turn Your Topics Into Keywords

Keyword research might be the most important part of the SEO writing process.

In fact, the right keyword can mean the difference between thousands of visits per month… or a piece of content that nobody reads.

Fortunately, there are a handful of free SEO tools that make finding popular keywords a breeze.

First up, we have Infinite Suggest .

Infinite Suggest finds popular keywords by scraping Google Suggest.

Just enter a topic idea into the tool…

Infinite Suggest

…and it spits out a list of keywords related to that topic.

Infinite Suggest keywords

Unfortunately, this tool doesn’t show you exact search volume numbers. But it’s still a great tool for finding keywords that people are searching for in Google.

Next, we have SEORCH .

This is a little hidden gem that I’ve been using quite a bit lately.

To use it, pop in a blog post URL from a competitor’s site.

SEORCH

You can ignore most of the stuff in this report. For the sake of finding keywords, we want to focus on the “Text & Phrases” section.

SEORCH – Text and phrases

This shows you the keywords that show up most often on the page.

Specifically, you want to look at the “Frequencies of phrases with 3 words” and “Frequencies of phrases with 4 words” reports.

SEORCH – 3 and 4 word phrases

These show you long tail keywords that don’t usually have a ton of competition on Google’s first page.

Third, I recommend checking out Sitechecker .

Sitechecker – Homepage

Like most keyword tools , Sitechecker generates a list of terms based on the seed keyword that you type into it.

The only downside of Sitechecker is that you need to upgrade to a pro plan to see search volume data.

Kparser total search volume upgrade

Which leads us to our last tool, Keywords Everywhere .

Keywords Everywhere is a Google Chrome/Firefox extension that generates keyword ideas based on the page you’re currently looking at.

For example, when you search on Amazon, it shows you Google search volumes for all of the terms that Amazon suggests.

Keywords Everywhere – Results

Outline Content To Match Search Intent

SEO writing used to be all about adding keywords to your web page.

Sure, optimizing your content around keywords is still super important. But it’s not enough.

Today, your content also needs to match “ Search Intent ”.

In other words:

Your content needs to give someone searching for your keyword what they want.

For example, early this year I wanted to rank for the keyword: “conversion rate optimization”.

And before I even wrote my outline, I looked at the SERPs for that keyword.

"conversion rate optimization" SERPs

And Google’s first page told me that people searching for “conversion rate optimization” wanted a guide .

So I wrote my content with that search intent in mind. And because my content gave Google what it wanted, it now ranks on the first page of Google.

Conversion Rate Optimization Backlinko SERP

Write Comprehensive Content

According to this industry study that analyzed 1M search results , long-form content ranks best in Google.

Long form content ranks best in Google

That doesn’t mean that you need to add fluff or filler to your post.

But it DOES mean that you need to publish comprehensive stuff. In other words: content that covers your topic on a single page.

For example, a while ago I published a guide to mobile optimization .

Backlinko – Mobile SEO Guide

This guide covers pretty much everything there is to know about mobile SEO.

Backlinko – Mobile SEO Guide topics

Which is one of the main reasons that my guide ranks in the top 3 for “mobile SEO”.

Google SERP – Mobile SEO

Use Your Keyword in Your Content

Adding keywords to your content is a BIG part of SEO content writing.

Question is: How often should you use keywords in your SEO content?

There’s no perfect keyword density percentage. In fact, Google has gone on the record to say that they don’t pay attention to keyword density .

(So if you hire a content writer that claims to write content “with optimized keyword density”, run the other way).

In my experience, the location of your keyword is more important than how many times you use it .

Specifically, you want to make sure that your keyword appears in:

  • Your title tag
  • The first 100 words of your page
  • In an H1 tag
  • In an H2 tag

Keywords in content

Let me walk you through each of these steps with a real-life example: this post optimized around “conversion rate optimization” .

Backlinko – Conversion Rate Optimization

As you can see, I include my keyword in that page’s URL.

Keywords in URL

I also added that keyword (once) in my page’s title tag.

Conversion Rate Optimization Keyword In Post Title

I only recommend using your keyword once in your title. Cramming keywords into your title tag looks like keyword stuffing to Google . Not good.

And I made sure to sprinkle my keyword in my blog post introduction:

Keyword in intro

Your keyword doesn’t need to show up in the first paragraph to work. As long as you use your target keyword in your first 100-150 words, you’re good to go.

Because I use WordPress, my blog post title automatically gets wrapped in an H1 tag.

Conversion Rate Optimization H1

My title contains my keyword. Which means my keyword is now in an H1. Check.

The only other thing to keep in mind about H1 tags is that you only want to use ONE per page. H1 tags are kind of like mini title tags. So if you use more than one on a page, it can confuse search engines.

Last up, you want to use your keyword in an H2 subheading, like this.

Conversion Rate Optimization – Keyword in H2

With that, your content is optimized for SEO.

(At least when it comes to keyword optimization.)

But for your content to be 100% SEO optimized, you also need to make sure your content is optimized for clicks.

Optimize Your Title Tags for Clicks

According to this case study published on the Moz blog , organic click-through-rate is a Google ranking signal.

And from my own testing, I’ve found that a higher CTR usually results in higher rankings.

Higher CTR results in higher rankings

So besides adding your keyword in your title tag, you also want to optimize it for CTR.

You can do that by using a specific number in your title.

Number In Post Title

Writing intriguing, emotionally-packed titles.

Emotionally Packed Title

Or analyzing your title using CoSchedule’s very helpful headline analyzer tool .

CoSchedule Headline Analyzer tool

Write a Compelling Meta Description

Meta descriptions don’t directly impact Google rankings .

An eye-catching meta description CAN boost your organic click-through-rate.

So I recommend writing a unique meta description for every page on your site. And make that meta description something that will make Google searchers want to click on your result .

For example, you can see that I sell my content in this meta description.

Best Free SEO Tools Post Meta Description

Use Internal Links

Internal links are a GREAT way to optimize your content for users and search engines.

Here’s why:

Internal links are helpful to users because they help them find related content on your site.

And they’re helpful for search engines because it helps them index your site’s pages… and understand your site’s structure and architecture.

Internal links are your architecture

Which is why I recommend using at least 4-5 internal links for every post that you publish.

Link to External Pages and Resources

According to Moz, using outbound links can help improve your page’s Google rankings .

Sites linking to authoritative content may count more than those that do not

This makes sense if you think about it:

Google wants to send people to content that has EVERYTHING that searchers want. And that “everything” includes helpful resources on other websites. So by adding external links to authority sites, you’re making your content more SEO-friendly.

I tend to use lots and lots of external links in my content.

Backlinko – External links in content

I do this partly for the SEO boost. But it’s more to help my site visitors learn more about topics that I mention in my post.

Use Related Words and Phrases (LSI)

LSI keywords are terms that are closely tied to your content’s topic. And LSI keywords are GREAT for SEO.

LSI terms help your content’s SEO for two main reasons:

First, LSI keywords help Google fully understand the topic of your page.

It’s one thing to see your target keyword in your title tag and URL.

Google still scans key areas of your site

Today, Google also wants to see that you fully cover that topic in your content.

LSI Keywords help search engines understand a page's topic

Second, LSI terms can help you rank not just for your target keywords… but for related keywords too.

For example, this post from my blog is optimized around the keyword: “increase website traffic”.

Backlinko – Increase Website Traffic

And besides optimizing my content for that specific term, I also added a handful of LSI keywords like “drive traffic”.

Which has helped my page rank for terms like “drive traffic” and “how to drive traffic to your website”.

Drive Traffic SERP

Use Multimedia In Your Content

Multimedia may not strictly fall under the category of “SEO writing”. But images, infographics and videos are super important for SEO.

Plus, multimedia makes your content much more interesting and compelling.

Strategically Promote Your Content

The SEO writing process isn’t finished after you hit the “publish” button.

Because the truth is: without content promotion, your content probably won’t rank.

(Especially if your site is brand new or doesn’t have a lot of authority yet.)

In other words, for your content to rank in Google, you need to strategically promote it.

Here are a few ways to spread the word about your latest post:

Be Proactive

First, reach out to people who might be interested in your content… before you publish it.

So instead of: “Hey, I just published this post. Will you share it?”, you say: “Hey, I’m about to publish something that you’d be interested in. Mind if I send it your way when it’s done?”.

For example, I sent out a bunch of emails to promote one of my upcoming blog posts.

Skyscraper Technique post email

And because I wasn’t pushy or demanding, this little outreach campaign led to tons of shares.

Skyscraper Technique post shares

Promote Everywhere

Second, promote every post using every channel and audience you have… no matter how small.

This includes:

  • Email subscribers
  • LinkedIn or Facebook groups you belong to
  • Social media followers

Again: if you don’t have a huge following on social media that’s totally OK. The idea here is to squeeze as much value out of the audience that you do have.

For example, whenever I publish a new post I work SUPER hard to spread the word.

I send out an announcement email to my newsletter subscribers.

Brian Dean – Email announcement

And I share the content on social media (specifically Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn) multiple times.

Backlinko – Sharing Content On Social Media

Even though I don’t have a huge following on each of those platforms, every little bit helps.

Sniff Out the Competition

Last up, I recommend promoting your content to people who link to your competitors.

If your content is better or brings something new to the table, you have a good chance of getting a link from people that already linked to a piece of similar content.

In my opinion, the best tool for this step is Semrush .

SEMrush – Homepage

However, Semrush starts at $99.95/month. In my opinion, it’s worth it. But it does depend on your budget.

If you’re on a tight budget, we have a free backlink checker that’s halfway decent.

SEO Content Writing Services: The What, Why & How (+ 3 Examples)

SEO Content Writing Services- The What, Why & How (+ 3 Examples)

Remember “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade,” where Indy has to face 3 challenges before he can reach the Holy Grail? Writing website content that search engines will smile upon is kind of like that — only there are way more than 3 challenges and they’re always changing. Also, I don’t have a cool fedora.

What I do have is a little trick we call search engine optimization (SEO). It’s a content writer’s “Grail Diary,” helping me navigate the challenges so I can get to the treasure (which is readers like you). Optimized content has a much better chance of making it through the search engine trials — so brands should never enter any marketing maze or content cave system without an SEO content writer by their side.

Luckily, that’s what SEO content writing services are for. Here’s a look at the what, why and how — plus some of my favorite examples of content writing that survived the trials.

Your SEO Content Writing Glossary

Much like archaeology, SEO services come with all kinds of specialized lingo. To fully appreciate SEO content writing services and how they help you navigate the marketing landscape, it’s important to take a closer look at a few key terms:

You know SEO is “search engine optimization,” but what does that really mean? Well, nobody puts it better than Google itself: “SEO is about helping search engines understand and present content .”

Basically, optimized content knows how to “speak search engine.” That has a lot to do with keywords, but website content also needs to address searcher intent, provide valuable information and include trustworthy links. The better your writing is, the more valuable it will be — and that value is how the search engine decides what to present to users.

A search engine results page, or SERP, is one big leaderboard. If search engines think your web content is relevant, well-written and easy to read, they might show it first on the SERP — and if they don’t like it, you’re banished to a faraway realm like the 23rd “O” in the Google search.

seo content writing prices

Yeah, right about there.

SEO Content Writer

SEO content writing is 1 of 9 major types of copywriting. A professional writer in this profession is particularly savvy because, on top of all the storytelling tactics and grammar rules that go into everyday writing , they also need a solid understanding of search engine algorithms, keyword research and more. They might not be able to help you find the Holy Grail, but they can usually help you rank better on the SERP.

SEO Content Writing Services

When you work with a content marketing agency, you’re usually getting SEO content writing services. That means you have a team of dedicated SEO strategists and content writers who work together to create a balance between 3 things:

  • What needs to be communicated.
  • What readers want to find.
  • What search engines are looking for.

Why Do Brands Need an SEO Writing Service, Anyway?

The thing about the Holy Grail is that Indy only had to go through those challenges once to reach it. Optimizing your writing for search engines, on the other hand, is something you have to do every time you create website content. Sometimes you even have to reoptimize older content to make sure it can still get through the search engine trials.

That’s why brands need SEO content writing services: It’s too much to do on your own.

Here are a few other benefits of having a content writing service to help navigate these SEO challenges:

  • An SEO content writer is a trustworthy expert. Search engines are constantly updating their algorithms. With SEO services, you always have access to content writing specialists who keep up with these changes and adapt their writing styles accordingly.
  • Keyword research is a delicate art. If you don’t want to be found guilty of keyword stuffing, you need to know how to use the right words at the right times. Seems like a job for a writer, doesn’t it? Plus, SEO content writers are surrounded by strategists, editors and other experts who back them up, so you’ll have a whole team to help you navigate the search engine trials.
  • SEO content writing is still storytelling. You can’t cater to search engines alone when creating optimized content. You also have to consider searcher intent, which means you need to tell a cohesive story. Naturally, that’s where a content writer comes in.
  • Your site needs constant content. If you don’t provide a new blog post every week or keep your social media updated, search engines will see you as old news. SEO content writing services help you stay ahead by providing constant content that both current and potential customers will love.
  • You have other things to do. Let’s be honest: You probably don’t have the time or energy to get inside a search engine’s head. SEO copywriting experts can do the work for you, giving you more time to focus on other things your customers need.

Long story short, you wouldn’t go after the Holy Grail without your trusty fedora, so why would you face search engines without help from SEO content writing services?

How Do SEO Content Writers Work Optimization Magic?

You know by now that content can be optimized. But did you know that the content creation process can be optimized too?

That’s right — and as an SEO content writer, an optimized process is critical for me. It’s the difference between writing a smooth, SEO-friendly article and getting crushed by a giant boulder. (Yes, I know that’s “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and not “The Last Crusade.” The image was too good to resist.)

Here’s what that process looks like in action:

  • Topic Ideation and Keyword Research

When it comes to content strategy, brainstorming and research go hand-in-hand. Sometimes I do research first to find out which topics to pursue, and other times someone brings an idea to the table and then I find out how it fits into an overall SEO strategy — but either way, it’s the homework stage. (Indy tells us, “ 70% of all archaeology is done in the library. ” This is that 70%.)

Once the keyword research and SEO strategy steps are complete, I analyze my topic from a searcher’s perspective. I ask things like:

  • Why would someone be searching for this?
  • What information would they find valuable?
  • How can I structure this blog post, landing page or other online content to create the best user experience?
  • Outline Creation

Next, I create an outline. This guides the direction of the overall article writing process , but it also helps me make sure I’m discussing the right subtopics and including relevant keywords in all of my section headings.

  • Writing and Editing

When the outline is complete, I begin writing. I’m always careful to balance storytelling and marketing goals with SEO best practices, and the result is website content that works on multiple levels. After that, other SEO writers edit the piece to make sure I didn’t accidentally use a keyword 5 times in a single sentence.

I don’t face the search engine trials unprepared. Instead, I send my content through a variety of tests to make sure it matches up with current algorithms and has the potential to rank highly. (Indy also says, “If you want to be a good archaeologist, you gotta get out of the library! ” This is where I do that.)

  • Celebration or Review

Finally, it’s time to face the search engines. My content is posted on a website or social media platform, where the SEO strategy team and I watch to see how it will fare in the challenges. If it ranks highly on the SERP, we throw a search-engine-themed party. If not, we review the algorithms and reoptimize for better results.

Our Favorite SEO Content Writing Examples

So, what does SEO content writing look like in action? Let’s see what website content looks like when it reaches the Holy Grail of marketing:

A Helpful Title — Eater Portland

Titles have a big role to play in SEO article writing, as you can see in this example. I searched for “best food on the Oregon coast,” and the first result on Google’s SERP was this article from Eater Portland.

seo content writing prices

The title includes a common search term — “where to eat” — and tells the search engine (and, by extension, me) that it contains valuable information about hotspots for meals and drinks. These details go beyond my original query by anticipating other questions I might have on the topic — another best practice for SEO content writing.

FAQs — Motortrend

Our next example comes from Motortrend , where the SEO content writer chose to phrase their section headings as frequently asked questions.

seo content writing prices

In this way, the Motortrend writer was able to cover multiple search queries in one blog post. They also brought in multiple parts of the audience by answering questions of increasing complexity; beginners could cover the basics in “What Is an Electric Car?” while electric vehicle fanatics could put top models head to head in “What Are the Best Electric Cars?”

Social Media Optimization — Nintendo of America

Don’t forget a search engine can also bring up your social media posts. This is a great example from Nintendo of America, where content is optimized in more ways than one.

Trainers! Pawmi, Lechonk, and Smoliv are three of the new PokĂ©mon you’ll be able to meet in PokĂ©mon #ScarletViolet ! Who can you not wait to add to your PokĂ©mon team? pic.twitter.com/SFmu3NmlaE — Nintendo of America (@NintendoAmerica) June 3, 2022

This post has plenty of terms searchers are likely to use, especially “PokĂ©mon.” It also uses “#ScarletViolet” to tell search engines it’s talking about a specific game in the franchise.

However, perhaps most importantly, it uses images to help bring context to its written content. If, like me, you had no idea what a “Lechonk” was, you’d probably be looking for a visual — and search engines know visual content makes your webpage more engaging, accessible and fun.

SEO Pricing: How Much Should You Spend on SEO Services?

Rebecca Riserbato

Updated: July 20, 2023

Published: May 11, 2023

SEO isn’t easy — it often requires an entire team of people who solely focus on SEO within your marketing department to get it right. That’s why many companies choose to outsource their SEO to an SEO agency/service.

person using an seo service to improve their rank

But where do you start? And how much will it cost? These are some of the first questions businesses may have when thinking about hiring externally.

In this post, we’ll explore what SEO agencies do, how they structure their prices, and how you can tell if they’re worth the cost. Let’s dive in.

Table of Contents

What do SEO services do?

The benefits of seo services, how seo services structure their prices, basic seo plan pricing.

  • Enterprising SEO Plan Pricing

How can you tell if an SEO service is worth it?

Search engine optimization (SEO) is an important marketing strategy because it helps you rank higher on search engines.

By hiring an SEO service, you can partner with an agency that uses several tactics to increase your rank and traffic. These tactics include keyword targeting, keyword research, content marketing, link building (both internal and external), and more.

Since there are several different kinds of SEO (on-page, off-page, technical, and local), there are services available. Some provide an all-in-one service others focus on just one type of SEO.

Foundational services usually include the following:

  • Keyword research
  • Technical SEO audits
  • On-page setup
  • Competitor analysis
  • Website blog content
  • Link building
  • Link auditing
  • Guest blogging
  • Citation building
  • Review management
  • Google Business optimization

Many companies choose to use SEO services so experts can execute their marketing strategies.

These companies can help you improve your rank on search engines, increase conversions, and boost authority. Let’s go into more detail.

1. SEO services help improve your rank on search engines.

With an SEO service, you’ll have an expert handling your content marketing, so you can improve your rank on search engines and drive traffic to your website.

Reaching people organically in this way is important to your company as it builds brand awareness and brings visitors/leads to your site.

Organic is one of the best ways to bring in leads because you’re helping potential customers that will then turn into leads and sales. Improving your rank on search engines will bring that traffic and get your product/service in front of more people.

2. You can increase conversions with both paid and organic leads.

SEO is necessary for your site because it can help generate leads. By using an SEO service, you can increase conversions from paid and organic efforts.

When people come to your site from organic efforts, an SEO service will help turn them into leads and convert them into customers by using their expertise in content marketing, lead nurturing, and lead generation.

Additionally, SEO services often help with PPC and display ads, meaning they can help increase your paid leads as well.

3. They help boost authority and build brand awareness.

The overall goal of SEO is to help boost authority and build brand awareness among your audience, teaching your audience to trust your company.

An SEO service can help with this by implementing an involved strategy focused on consistently publishing content related to your products and services, and adjusting as necessary based on results.

Now that we know what SEO services are and why they exist, let's discuss how much they cost.

SEO services can structure their prices in several ways, whether they’re on retainer, charge hourly rates, or charge by the project.

These services also take into consideration the competitiveness of keywords, whether you’re running a local or national campaign, the type of project, and whether they’re an individual freelancer or a full-service agency.

Typically, hiring services can cost an average of $1,000 to $10,000 monthly.

SEO services also usually come in different packages, bundles, and plans. Let’s review what a basic SEO plan might cost compared to an enterprise SEO plan.

How Much Do Professional SEO Services and Web Content Writing Cost?

Judging by the popularity of our blog post about how much social media marketing costs, people are very interested in how much agencies and freelancers charge to manage social media.

In fact, that post is currently ranking #1 in Google's search engine results pages (SERPs) for a variety of keywords associated with that phrase.

So we decided to write a post about how much professional web content writing costs.

This pricing guide has been updated for 2018, and will tell you how much it costs to outsource landing pages, blog posts, press releases and other web content — both for our agency and in general. We did quite a bit of research, so you won't have to!

How Much Does Web Content Writing Cost?

How much do landing pages cost, how much do seo blog posts cost, how much do link bait articles cost, how much does content strategy cost, does your site need technical seo fixes, how much does technical seo cost, how much does seo keyword research and competitive analysis cost, how much do other writing services cost, how much does online seo training cost, web content writing and seo pricing table.

There are many different types of web content writing, each with different price points. Most of our web content writing services involve one of the following:

1. Landing pages  involve writing content like you see on our home, about and services pages.

They should have distinct calls to action, include the SEO keywords you're trying to target and be somewhere in the range of 250-450 words long (depending on the design of the site). The purpose of landing pages is to convert browsers to buyers, and having amazing content can make a huge difference in your conversion rates.

Poorly written content can seriously affect your sales. Landing pages are the most difficult to write out of all the web content, which is why they're so expensive.

2. SEO blog posts  are one of the easiest ways to increase your website traffic.

They drive SEO, fuel social media marketing campaigns and are a good way to introduce people to your brand. Blog posts give people a reason to visit your website, and once readers are there they tend to click around a little. In a directly indirect way, blog posts drive sales — or at least, they do when they're written correctly.

How to Write a Blog Post That Converts — AND Brings in SEO Traffic [Checklist + Complete Guide]

To see what it takes to write a blog post that ranks in SERPs and converts site visitors into buyers, read our guide to writing blog posts that convert .

3. Mini blog posts  â€“ like regular blog posts, only e-mailed to the client as a Word file.

Most of our clients have us post the posts directly to their websites (we include relevant tags/categorization, social bookmarking and other extras), which saves them time and costs them more money. Choosing the mini blog post option takes the client a little more time, but saves them some cash. Toe- may -toe, toe- mah -toe.

4. Link bait and "in-depth" articles  â€“ like standard SEO blog posts, only twice the length and hyped up on awesome.

Designed to go viral, link bait articles tend to be provocative in one way or another. There's a huge amount of effort and talent involved in writing link bait articles, but the traffic payoff is often worth the per-word rate.

So, how much does all this web content writing cost? It's hard to say, because most companies don't advertise their prices. Here's what we were able to find out, though:

Landing page content is where you want to drop your money, since it acts as your website's silent salesman.

If your web content is coming off like a sweaty and desperate used car salesman, it's not going to convert and your sales are going to suffer. Who cares if you're getting a ton of traffic if none of it is converting into actual sales? With that said, how many Benjamins should you expect to throw at your website copy?

"Your website #copy can be your best #sales asset, but not if it sounds like a sketchy used car salesman." - The Content Factory

It's difficult to tell what companies really charge for landing pages, because there are different packages to consider:

https://www.freepik.com/free-photo/product-design-drawing-website-graphic_12189388.htm#query=Content&position=3&from_view=search&track=sph

  • Do you only need landing page copy, or do you need design and development, as well?
  • Are you updating an existing website, or building a new one? In that case, do you already have a custom domain or WordPress themes, or will you (or your agency) include that in the invoice?
  • Does your landing page copywriting include SEO services?

For example, at The Content Factory, we offer both website content writing services on their own, or include them as part of a website design and rebranding package. That way, you get just the copywriting services you need, and don't end up paying more for what you don't need.

Many web design businesses roll the cost of the content writing into their design fees, and then scratch together the content themselves. This is why so many websites have such crappy landing page copy.

How much do writers charge for landing page copy?

There was a really interesting forum discussion about how much to charge for website copywriting — and some professional landing page writers quoted $1,500-$25,000 per page of content. Here's how they responded to somebody who said that landing pages cost ~$100 per:

"The missing part of that sentence '...and earns about that much per month.'... And that's because the clueless know the price of everything and the value of nothing. So they think low price equals a good bet the way a lotto player with a flimsy grasp of odds does. You have about the same chances of winning either way."
"I like your thinking. A landing page for under $100 — that's a fantastic idea. Hey, while we're at it, cars take a lot of effort to build and provide a lot of value — lets start selling those for $500. You're sure to get a reliable vehicle for that price! Another day as a copywriter, and yet another unrealistic pricing expectation from a potential client..."
"I'd have to agree with John. If your client is serious about a landing page that converts and makes money, you'd be looking at $3000 to $4000 all up. There's a huge amount of time involved in creating a successful landing page."

– Plainwords

Now, I'm not going to argue that there isn't a ton of time and skilled labor involved with creating landing pages that convert. But $3,000-$4,000 per page still seems a bit excessive .

When you consider that you're looking at five or more pages per website, the actual cost of content comes to $15,000-$20,000 — about the cost of a new compact car .

Here's the argument these and other people use to justify such expensive fees : if you pay more for content, you'll get a better conversion rate and the extra sales will make up for the obscene per-piece rate.

That may hold true for a luxury car dealership, plastic surgeon's office or home remodeling company, but only because they make so much money on each transaction — and the truth of the matter is that most businesses don't.

The majority of the people who come to us for web content writing services make less than $500 profit on each sale, or are fresh startups that don't have that kind of capital. For them, that argument just doesn't work (especially not in the short term).

At The Content Factory, we bill for landing pages by the word — $1 per, with a project minimum of $1,000.

On rare cases it may cost slightly more, depending on the complexity of the subject and research involved. Our landing pages are usually around 250-500 words and most clients need five pages of content written, which means that the average 5-7 page website content project costs around $2,000 - $4,000, including all edits.

For that price, you get pretty sweet copy — the copy on our site features a certain tone that we find preferable, but when we write for clients we do so with their preferred tone. We've written content for large law firms, real estate agents, adult e-tail sites, startups and everything in between. Everyone wants something a little different, and we can modify our writing style to deliver exactly what the client wants.

For our regular SEO blog posts, we charge between $80 and $950 each.

How much you pay depends on the length and how many you want (we give bulk discounts). If you want a 2,000+ word in-depth article that features interviews from industry experts and thought leaders, it's going to be on the higher end of the spectrum. Our WordPress blogging rates include posting the content to your website, using proper tags/categories, formatting, etc.

If we have access to your analytics, we'll even target our topics based on the popularity of past posts. If you're looking to save some money and know how to publish the blogs yourself, we'll e-mail the Word docs and let you take care of the posting and promotion. We call these "mini blogs" and charge $60 per . Plus, we give bulk discounts for orders of 10 or more.

Link bait blog posts take much more time and talent to write than a standard blog post, although some of our posts turn out to be link bait anyway (we can't help it, sometimes our writers submit incredible work). The whole point of writing link bait articles is to get as many sites to link back to you as possible, which boils down to getting more site traffic.

Link bait takes a lot of time to write and even more time to edit — but it won't cost you as much as a new Honda Civic. We weren't really able to find too many prices for link bait articles, but Christopher Angus says they cost $2,000 each.

Our link bait costs around $750 per post .

Do we guarantee that each one will get you hundreds of backlinks? No...but nobody else can, either. What we can do is employ content strategies that we know work well, such as quoting experts and linking back to their sites in the articles. More often than not, the experts share the content that you feature them in, which can be a great way to leverage larger networks to increase the size of your own.

Another thing that isn't really outlined is the most important: content strategy. Before you can execute a successful content marketing plan, you need to know:

  • Everything about your target audience
  • Which keywords to target, to target the target audience (is that enough targeting?)
  • How difficult the keywords will be to rank for
  • Which keywords your site currently ranking for
  • Which keywords the competition is ranking for
  • Which keywords are more likely to convert
  • If your site needs any technical SEO fixes

Your site needs a strong technical SEO foundation for your content to perform well. That means that there should be no issues in the actual source code, or the way your website is structured, that makes it difficult for Google and other search engines to crawl and index your content.

You can get a free, high-level overview of your site's technical SEO health by completing the form below.

Technical SEO prices are hard to pin down, because there are so many variables. According to Moz , agency SEO rates fall into three basic categories:

Average Cost of SEO Services

As you can see, there's a pretty wide range of prices even within the same pricing model, and there's a good reason for that. Technical SEO requires a diverse range of skillsets, including:

  • SEO writing : Meta descriptions are the first thing people see when they search a keyword and find your content. In 155 characters or fewer, an SEO must captivate your audience enough to win their clicks over your competition, while accurately summarizing the web page and incorporating keywords.
  • Web development : Optimizing your website for speed and performance, implementing accurate Schema markup  and even simple tasks like setting canonical tags require a comfortable grasp of HTML, CSS, JavaScript and JSON.
  • Link building and digital PR : There's a right way and a wrong way to go about link building , and just submitting content to a bunch of directories won't cut it. Successfully pitching media outlets  takes finesse and patience, as many reporters regard their inboxes with a "Thar be dragons" approach from too many spammy link builders.

You also have to take the quality of the agency into consideration. More experience and proof of results can come with a higher price tag, but cheap services from fly-by-night SEO shops may not give you the marketing results you need — worse still, some agencies still resort to black hat SEO tactics that result in manual penalties from Google, which can take countless hours and thousands of dollars to fix.

Which SEO Pricing Model Makes The Most Sense?

There are benefits and drawbacks to each technical SEO pricing approach.

  • Monthly retainers make your SEO budget more predictable, but even if you don't need technical SEO services one month, you still have to pay.
  • Per-project pricing  is the  most popular SEO pricing model, according to Moz . Project costs may also seem predictable, but some agencies can be more change order-happy than others.
  • Hourly SEO rates  are the least predictable, and you could be paying more than you bargained for if you hire a less-than-speedy consultant.

At TCF, we take a hybrid approach between per-project and per-hour pricing. There is no standard technical SEO project, as every website has different needs and different problems. A 25-page website with relatively minor structural problems will cost less to fix than a 1,000-page website with hundreds of 404 errors, a botched https migration and no image alt text to speak of.

Our technical SEO services cost $175 per hour, and you get a detailed project estimate before kick-off.

We provide conservative estimates for each technical SEO project, so you don't get hit with an invoice that costs more than you were expecting, and we have wicked-fast workflows to speed up and automate the remediation process.

In just a few weeks, our technical SEO geek was able to take our site audit score from 66% to 95%. After completion of the project, contentfac.com ranked for 20 new #1 keywords, and the organic traffic TCF received from new and improved keyword rankings in one month was worth $29,650 .

Check out our comprehensive how-to guide for SEO keyword research , if you want to see what it takes to DIY. This all requires quite a bit of time, knowledge and experience — along with a dash of A/B testing. The guide to SEO keyword research we wrote is over 4,000 words and covers a half dozen very important SEO tools. Take a gander at it, and you'll see that this SEO research and writing stuff is neither fast nor easy.

https://www.freepik.com/free-photo/business-documents-office-table-graph-business-with-social-network-diagram-man-working-background_1203641.htm#query=laptop%20spreadsheet&position=2&from_view=search&track=sph

Many SEO agencies are tight-lipped about their keyword research report prices, which makes sense if you know the industry â€” while SEOs tend to use a similar marketing stack of keyword research tools (you got your Ahrefs, you got your SEMrush, you got your Serpstats, etc.), the methods we use to categorize keywords by search intent, volume, priority, etc. can vary greatly from agency to agency.

It's not like the secret Coca-Cola recipe, but SEOs like to keep some things proprietary.

What do you get with an SEO keyword research analysis?

This can also vary from agency to agency, so it's important to ask the following questions:

  • How many keywords do you provide with your report?
  • Do you conduct competitive analysis, and how many competitors do you compare?
  • Do you include a content strategy with your report?
  • Do you provide content ideas?
  • What data do you provide with the keywords (e.g., volume, competition, search intent, etc.)?
  • Will you break out my keywords by category (e.g., audience verticals, products/services, etc.)?

We've seen SEOs charge as low as $400 for a basic keyword list with no content strategy, and as high as $47/keyword (don't spend all your keywords in one place, I guess!).

At TCF, we complete comprehensive keyword research and competitive analysis for $3,500 .

https://www.freepik.com/free-vector/business-background-design_1072818.htm#query=idea&position=1&from_view=search&track=sph

This includes:

  • Your monthly search volume and competitive ranking
  • The PPC value of your search traffic
  • A full list of the keywords you already rank for, including the corresponding pages on your site that draw the search traffic
  • A full review of your existing keywords
  • Identifying which pages on your site should be updated to move up SERPs for specific keyword searches
  • A list of any additional keywords worth targeting
  • A full analysis of how you rank for keywords, compared to your competition
  • A technical SEO analysis of your site, along with recommended fixes
  • 12 content topic suggestions based on keywords, including descriptions of the suggested posts
  • How much your top two competitors spend on AdWords campaigns per month
  • Which keywords your competitors for, and the corresponding pages on their site that draw the search traffic
  • Which of their keywords overlap with yours (and where you stand)
  • Which sites link to theirs (where they're getting media coverage/backlinks from)
  • Graphic representations of both their organic search traffic and their AdWords spend

We provide hundreds of keywords and a content strategy to target those keywords, while also appealing to your target audience in a way that gets them to convert into paying clients or customers. It's something we've done with great success for our website, and we've helped clients achieve similar goals.

There are a couple of other writing assignments that we get in on a regular basis:

  • Press releases  â€“ A professional press release writer knows how to format the damn thing correctly, which is the hardest part. Well, at least the second hardest part, since coming up with a catchy headline isn't as easy as you'd think. Press releases should be written from a semi-objective viewpoint, so that journalists can copy/paste it into their articles and blogs.

How to Write a Press Release Like a PR Pro (With Free Template!)

Writing a press release that media outlets want to pick up is an art and a science. Read this guide to learn how TCF PR pros write press releases that outlets like Forbes and The Wall Street Journal feature in their coverage. You'll also get a our downloadable press release template â€” free!

  • Email newsletters  â€“ A good email newsletter writer knows how to create subject lines that boost open rates. Once the readers are in, it's up to the writer to hold their attention and get them to click through to the website (or some other action). The ROI of email marketing is insane, returning $38 for every $1 invested, but great email newsletters are hard to come by â€” which is why so many end up in the spam folder.

There are all kinds of BS prices listed online for e-mail newsletter and press release writing.

How much does press release writing cost?

You can find somebody on Craigslist to write either for less than $15, or you could pay $2,500 with a fancy online PR agency. Obviously, we're somewhere in the middle.

We charge a flat rate of $1,500 per press release , which includes writing, editing, distribution and promotion.

Our clients have been featured in places like the Wall Street Journal, CNN and the Today show, to name a few. Meanwhile, TCF writers have been quoted everywhere from the New York Times and Forbes to PRDaily and Social Media Today).

You can write the best press release in the world, but there's no guarantee top journalists are going to see it. Our press releases include reaching out to reporters directly, because over the years we've developed a network of connections and tools that give us the direct contact info of just about any journalist, producer and editor you can think of. We've built relationships and earned trust, and it hasn't come easily or quickly.

"You can probably pay someone on Craigslist $15 to write your press release, but you'd be better off spending that $15 on fancy coffee. #PR" - The Content Factory

Website content can be fairly tricky to write and format in a way that resonates with both readers and search engines. Chances are, if you're reading this right now it's because you found us via search engine — this wasn't by accident on our part. It was by hard work.

And now, our site works for us – we receive around $250k per year in organic search traffic alone (via SEMrush ). Our website is one of our highest producing employees, and that's how it should be !

"#SEO turns your website into your most productive #marketing employee." - The Content Factory

We've been able to achieve similar results for clients, which is something you should always check for when looking at agencies or freelancers you may want to outsource your content writing to. The web content writing cost isn't the only thing you should be considering when it comes to outsourcing, you also want to consider the previous record of success that the agency or freelancer has been able to deliver in the past.

Or, if you'd prefer to go the DIY route, we offer online SEO and content writing training.

We'll show you everything from how to run an SEO audit and research keywords to advanced web content writing techniques and link building. For an idea of what it's like, check out our free webinar: 9 Expensive SEO Mistakes You're (Probably) Making .

We've seen other companies charge anywhere from $1,100 to $8,500 for SEO training . Some of the upcharges don't make a ton of sense â€” for example, in-person, on-site SEO training often adds bulk to your invoice, even though you spend most of your classroom time in front of the computer. This is the 21st century, and there's no reason you shouldn't be able to learn search engine optimization in your pajamas.

Thanks for the feedback — let us know if you need any help with writing!

I just wanted to comment and say that I really enjoyed reading your blog post here. It was very informative and I also digg the way you write! Keep it up and I’ll be back to read more in the future

Interesting information. Some are getting rich as mentors/experts in creating landing pages… a single page brings them more income than others earn in an entire year!

I am not exaggerating but this article may be a turning point for me. In my freelance writing career of 2 years, the client always appreciated me but sadly I was not aware of the actual price I can quote. I charged drastically lower rates and I believe that the quality was never low (none complained till date). Really thanks a lot for this valuable article…

Anjit, I am also a victim of the same.

I used and still charge less for a good quality write-up; however, I believe its time to speak out loud. Anyway, what according to you would be a better quote for a 500 word write up?

I completely agree with you Anjith and Irfan. Although it’s quite late now, I at least know what I should actually be charging for my articles. I had no idea and the clients are the last people who you can trust to help you with these as they will try to reduce the costs for themselves. In India especially, I’ve noticed this trend of cheating freelancers out of a good pay and might even resell your articles without your permission (even when there is no agreement or contract stating that they can).

This is very interesting. Pricing for SEO content writing and blog writing does vary quite a bit across the board.

I think it’s a good idea to always ask for a writing sample, just to ensure the writer can really write. Numbers and numbers– but only the right words justify the accuracy of those numbers :)!

Typo; sorry. “Numbers are numbers”

I think the cost varied depending on both the writer’s expertise and the budget of the client. But, the more money the client intends to pay, the better the contents are supposed to be.

I think the cost varies depending on both the writer’s expertise and the budget of the client. But, the more money the client intends to pay, the better the contents are supposed to be.

I think, the sector average prices are too high. That’s insane. I would rather hire a in-house journalist than outsource at this high prices. Thanks for insides!

Very interesting, thank you. I’m a ghostwriter who has been asked to write a website and was looking for an idea of what to quote, this really helps – I’ll be coming back to this site!

Thank you for this post. I’ve been doing research to determine my own pricing; and I wasn’t actually finding much despite my excellent Google-do ninja skills. This helped me immensely in making my decisions. Thank you.

Mostly it is all based on quality of the content. So getting web content writing services is little bit difficult because it is our responsible to check whether it has good quality or not. In my opinion they may offer up to $25.

How do you charger someone? I mean what are the steps and how do you get money into your account? I mean for example, your a freelance coder and you offer your services to change their website, what information do you need to access the website and change things and how do you assure you get paid. I know aboutsoluetly nothing of this so anyone help please?

PayPal is a good place to start for payment options! It sounds like you need more background info that we’ve given in this blog – maybe a book would give you a better overview. We recommend Freelancing for Dummies.

A lot of people here are getting the wrong idea about this information. It’s great to be motivated to write great content, and it’s certainly wonderful to be able to charge a lot for the work that you do, but make no mistake, people will pay what you are worth. If you provide excellent content you will get paid more. If you are a generic freelance content writer with sub par skills and little knowledge of what you are doing except “writing and making some cash”, you aren’t worth nearly as much as these folks are writing about here. 5 star, top notch content writers are worth 1$ per word. Most of the people I see clamoring for all this money are really only worth 5-6 per 500 word article.

This is a great information piece from some wonderful writers, but this isn’t at all a gauge to what you all should be charging for your content. Or you might find yourself sitting around a lot with very little work to do and a whole lot of free time.

As a freelance writer, I've found that many clients can't tell the difference between the kind of writing that's worth 2¢ to 3¢ a word and the kind of writing that's worth 8¢, 10¢ or yes, $1 per word. If you're working with an educated person who can produce readable, error-free blog posts, then you should never be paying $5 per post, which amounts to 1¢ per word. A simple 500 word article takes at least an hour to research, write and edit, on average, and that's below minimum wage for an hour's work in every major English-speaking country.

Sorry, but NOBODY who's smart enough and well enough educated to write competantly is worth less than minimum wage. Anybody who's working for that is either horribly desperate or living in a developing country. In the first instance, you're taking advantage of someone and in the second, you're probably getting low quality work.

People who insist on underpaying writers usually get what they deserve: poor quality content that won't do much to boost search engine rankings and that will turn off any potential customer who's a native English speaker.

I agree that $1 per word is a rate that only a very experienced, knowledgable and skilled content writer can get away with charging, but less experienced, less knowledgeable writers are not worth $5 per post. There's a vast middle ground between casual but competant freelancers and expert copywriters, but the minimum you should be paying per post is around $20. Anything less than that isn't worth a competant writer's time.

Well said Dee Miller!!

I really hope you have not used the words “competantly” and “competant” in your work product… quite ironic given the point you’re trying to make AND the fact that this website offers spellcheck during the comment writing process… or is it “commant”?

I beg to differ.

If you think that each client will know the exact value of what he's getting in terms of content writing, as well as being willing to pay the same value, you're awfully mistaken.

Generally, the market defines the price for value, and if you take the global market, the pricing changes country to country, and it's hard to see what the actual price should be.

Not to mention, as Dee said, not all people see the difference in value of one article to another. Couple that with an exponential rise of pricing compared with quality, you have a true forest of prices and qualities…

Popularity and authority are vital as well. You can have the same value in terms of content, and different prices for each. And if the more expensive one has a name to him or herself, you'd see them get more work for the higher price, but still the same output quality…

Of course, if your output is shitty, and you put a high price tag to it, you won't get anywhere.

But assuming you'll get the price for your exact value, and that's all to it, that the world just works like that, is plain wrong.

I am not sure by any means people pay $1500 per press release. Suppose, a press release has 2000 words, still, it does not make sense to pay this much.

If peopel are paying you, I believe you are creating magic for them. I am from developing country, and you know in Pakistan, $1500 can feed a family of 10 people for 5 months.

Not sure what to say.

$1500 doesn’t exactly have the same affect in the US these days (not even close in fact), but you are right, we are indeed creating magic for our clients at this rate.

What Michael said – also, $1500 is what my husband and I used to pay in monthly rent for our small, one bedroom apartment in Toronto. Just to clarify for people who don't live in the US, UK, Canada or Australia: $1500 is around a week's wages for a native English speaker with a mid-range income. It's a lot for a single press release (completely worth it when a network of journalists is coming into play, IMHO), but it's not crazy.

Because they're charging for distrubution as well. You're not just paying for the words, you're paying for getting your story placed, too. That's specialized work.

Absolutely Michael. Thanks for the comment!

I work for a US marketing firm with all American employees. We charge about $150 to write a press release and the same amount to distribute it through a service like PR Leap. No wonder why we're so busy… I can't believe people charge $1500 for a single press release.

Glad to hear you guys are busy! Most of the media coverage we generate is not through a press release distribution service (like PRWeb), but through our own reporter and editor contacts – this is primarily what our clients pay for, besides the strategy and writing of the release itself.

Generally speaking, our clients think that $1500 per press release is a good value for what they receive in return (our releases have led to coverage by CBS Evening News, the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, the Today show, etc.), otherwise they wouldn’t consistently pay for them – we’re also pretty busy these days. If we don’t think we’ll be able to generate at least $1500 in value from a press release for a client, we try to encourage them to look at other options.

I’d be curious to see what a $150 press release reads like. Thanks for your comment!

Useful info for those of us just starting to venture into content production for others. I have previously worked for businesses that told me what I'd be paid, but it's much nicer telling someone else to pay me what I'm worth! 🙂

I love it when a company trying to sell content has links in their article that are broken.   Shows me I am in the wrong place….

Thanks for bringing it to our attention, albeit in a passive aggressive way. We fixed the broken link 🙂

Nice clear article. Very helpful for those in our field – and great patience by Kari, given some of the comments.

Thanks for the postive feedback, David. Glad you found the post helpful…and noticed my restraint, haha.

Very informative article about outsourcing. Very useful, now i know how much do I have to charge my clients! Haha! Thanks for this! 😀

Great and  a very useful blog for me. Keep sharing.

For someone who's being outsourced, these rates are way too high! But I'd agree, if clients do get what they're paying for, then there's no question about it. Small business owners might prefer lower rates and get poorly written articles. For big companies, however, there's a high chance that they'd opt for a $500 article. But if someone from my place would receive such rate, that would already be a month's salary for someone working for around 5 years. 🙂

Thanks for your comment! One thing I’m hung up on: a month’s salary for $500?! If that’s what the company is paying employees, they’re probably not going to want to pay a digital PR firm $500 per blog post. And that’s okay – we’re not for everyone.

The cost seems like a bit too high but I guess you'd see the real worth if you see the website's rank getting better and better, the content is, for me, the biggest key to achieve that.

I want to do the job of content writer. I have experience. I am skilled in writing articles and reports as a graduate of science. I am interested in writing articles. Please help me finding a job of content writer online that is reliable.

I so adore your blog. it is simply insighful, thought provoking and highly informative. As someone who works for a Recruitment Agency that specializes in getting the best talents for clients all over the globe, i have to admit that copywriting is indeed a job that needs to be well-thought of as this is a way to generate sales for many companies. thank you so much for sharing this ariticle. I have to admit that i am a fan of your blog. Cheers!

Reading this post now in 2015 and wondering how much your prices have changed since the posting? More importantly, I'd like to know about email newsletters- industry as well as your prices, and what all is included (only the content or managing the campaign, i.e., sending out the mails as well)?

It's a great post BTW, so thank you!

We try keep this blog post updated with our latest pricing for copywriting (we circle back every six months or so), but you’re free to email Karilee(at)contentfac(dot)com to get the latest pricing info. The link at the top of the article, to our generic proposal, is always up to date.

Hey Plz tell me, that how much I should charge for below requirement:

1.       The content should be unique.

2.       Min. 20 pages for each topic with minimum 500 words each. The content should also contains pictures / coding /etc where ever it is necessary for better understanding of the topics.

3.       Idea here is visitor coming to the site can learn for it and get fair idea about the technology.

4.       Each technology content should have interview questions asked in the industry with 50 questions

How much you charge for website content (including your rates for blog content) is up to you. We’ve developed our rate structure over the last five years, and we’re able to charge more now than we were at the beginning because we’ve built up case studies and our own internal sets of best practices to help clients achieve the SEO and conversion successes that they’re looking for.

What you charge for online content writing is largely dependent on your skill, past successes, client testimonials, turnaround time, etc. There’s a lot that goes into it — and unfortunately, that means that i’m not able to advise what your rates should be.

Great info, very specific.Freelance is awful. $30 an hour or less for projects and they allot little time. 200 for a landing page, 200 for a print ad, 200 for an E-mail– before taxes. I really wish I had been a plumber.

I agree Daniel. I am shocked that some of the people who post projects on Freelancer start the range of payments from $10 onwards for work that actually should go into intellectual property! It is totally unfair and unsuitable for professional and experienced writers! Yes there are times when we actually end up thinking doing something else would be more worthwhile…

Writing an article requires lots of creativity and patience. Its the game of words and if You like juggling with words, Freelance writing is a great career for You. but because of my busy schedule there is some one that has being helping me.

This is great information on the costs of blogging. I wanted to know the estimates and you clearly stated them. Thanks a lot.

Not only the content prices but SEO and web design and development costs are decreasing now  days. This is because of the high amount of man power available in the field. Till the time we are not going to respect our own work than how others will do the same. Stop working on low prices. If you are good at anything .. charge accordingly.

Having quality content stand out and makes your website and product to rank high on Google. My website ranked on Google fist page from an article that was professionally written for me.

My company definitely needed this article!

Glad to hear we could help!

Great
..Very helpful blog
.I am a freelancer since 1 year and working for a top freelance website but I seriously don’t know the actually market price of writing. It helps me to improve my writing and approach to writing.

I just happened upon your site and read your article. You gave a ton of great info. I will continue to follow as I too, am a writer and can use as much advice and education I can get. My website thewriter-robertagriffin.com (I know very original right?) I am currently constructing my site so there is nothing to see just yet. I guess I have to say, it was fortuitous for me that I found you.

Again, thank you for the great information.

Roberta Griffin

Hi Roberta,

Thanks for the great feedback! Make sure you sign up for our newsletter, we share a ton of great tips and tricks for content, PR, SEO and social media marketing. We’re also starting a mastermind group and class series soon, which will start with keyword research and go all the way through marketing your content after you’ve published it.

Hello, thank you for such an informative article. My friend and I had been freelancing for middleman clients for quite a long time. My friend writes really amazing and I do it like so-so. We were paid $2 and even $1 for a 500-word article. It is really great to have known the actual cost. Would you, please tell how to contact/reach clients directly to get paid this much?

I was trying to find out how much I should pay for a guest article. “For our regular SEO blog posts, we charge between $80 and $950 each…” I didn’t expect it to be this much! I am actually happy too see that the prices are in that range.

Good read, thanks Kari

I do wish more firms, like yours, understood the amount of good will they generate when they don’t “hold back” on pricing information that 1) helps so many others – even competitors and 2) helps to strengthen the industry as a whole and raise the perception of writers as the same time.

Publishing this kind of “bedroom” information (in a well-considered, detailed manner) brings everyone closer and positions THE CONTENT FACTORY as a credible industry leader and, as an organization where “knowledge resides openly” – two big gains in my book. Thank you for your awareness and contextualizing what you’ve shared in a way that truly makes it worthwhile. Please don’t stop.

Far too many independent consultants and/or freelancers lack sounding boards with any kind of deserved authority. Many business owners fail to recognize that “friendly expert advice” is more a contradiction in oxymorons, than a worthwhile source of feedback. It’s not unlike saying, “Upon hearing Mr. Trump conclude his finely-honed remarks with such an elegant flourish, the fat chicks in attendance enthusiastically nodded their chubby heads as well as their oversized yabbbo’s.”

Chris Traynor, Knowledge Scout WHIP-SMART CONSULTING “Making Business Brilliant” [email protected]

Does The Content Factory ever use freelance writers? Because, compared to the other rates for content, $60 to $80 seems awfully low – at least, assuming posts of 500 words. Although, it may just be that my assumptions are off. I always thought that agencies charged clients twice as much as writers were paid for a post, but I can’t remember where I got that idea. Still, at this level, I would expect those prices to be the starting rates for what the writers are actually being paid for SEO posts.

Depends on the content and the number of words. I use a website – they charge about $60 for a 1500 word article, very good price for the quality of the articles, unlike those other garbage I’ve had other people work on. For web content and landing pages, about a $150. They are not the cheapest if you’re used to odesk and guru writers, but hey, quality trumps price. So far, all articles have been superb. 🙂

We are consuming about 100 articles a day from different levels of writers (for SEO, guest posting, putting on our own blogs and highly researched product review articles).

Few insights as a client –

1. When we pay per word, there is certain lack of accountability in the content and more often would seem like the words were put together just for the sake of meeting the content word count.

2. When we pay per article, we sometimes feel like the content could have been explained a bit better but since it was per article project it was cut short. .

After dealing with the confusion for few months here is what we came up with –

Pay per article, where the price depends on the range of words.

Lets say from 750-1000 words $XX , from 1000-1500 words XX and so on.

This way, the writer doesn’t stuff words and have room for putting only the words needed while still getting fairly paid for the effort and the quality is maintained for the sake of long term relationships and bulk work.

How much does correct content writing can grow your ROI? – I think it’s even better title for that article. Great overview, thanks.

And content writing is correct when every article is in TOP Google, isn’t it? That’s why importance of using long tail keywords grow every day.

I am new to content writing but not new to writing. I’ve written for a community newspaper and I maintain a blog of my own. I have been offered a content writing opportunity writing content for websites to build business. But when I do the math, I’m inclined to say no. 50 articles at 500 words to be produced in two week and paid a total of $400. That is $8.00 and article and less than a penny per word. What I’m understanding is that $20 per article may be a good starting point?

I think it’s a good move to pass on the gig that pays less than a penny per word. Writing website content (e.g.: home page, about us, etc.) is a lot more time and labor intensive than writing blog content, and you could almost certainly do better. $20/500 words could be a good place to start, depending on your experience. I’d go through Craigslist (here’s a great guide outlining how to find freelance work ), and apply for writing gigs on an ongoing basis until you can build your portfolio and increase your rates to be commensurate with your experience and the ROI you provide to clients.

I want to know how much i will charge for an article to publish on my website if the article is of 350words and m not professional , i m writing post on my website from 4months.

This is great! It is such a lovely article. It’s just amazing how you put all these together on “How Much Does Professional Web Content Writing Cost” with such great tips! Looking forward to more of these.

excellent post, very informative. I wonder why the other specialists of this sector don’t understand this. You must continue your writing. I’m confident, you have a great readers’ base already!

Basically it’s all on the quality of the content, how much fresh content? Thank You so much.

You want to update your site at least once a month, but it’s more important to post the right kind of content (long-form, keyword-targeted) than it is to just constantly post fresh content that isn’t designed to rank well in SERPs.

Very informative and well-written article. I just loved it. Thank you for sharing this info.

SEO service is the most convenient way of reaching thousands of new customers every day. Web content is a boon to brand your business to the potential audience. Very informative post.

The answer to the question is: It depends…there are so many factors involved to answer this question. To look for a baseline is ludicrous. Sadly, now that you’ve outlined your fee structure, you’ve commoditized your brand… just like tomatoes.

It’s not sad at all – we put our rates out on front street to save everyone time, and there is some fluctuation depending on the industry and difficulty of work involved. Don’t have the $ to pay us to manage SEO for you? Our trainings are probably the way to go.

Maybe focus on your brand, and not ours 😉

Thanks for the article to know about the SEO Serice and Web Content Writing cost and its a motivation for the other writers to make the money. Thank you for the information.

8 best SEO content writing services to try in 2024 (Ranked)

If you're looking to scale your SEO content writing efforts, and grow your organic traffic, you should leverage these 8 SEO content writing services.

Marketer Milk Team

It can be a difficult process to find, hire, and manage writers — all while trying to craft a content marketing strategy that will drive meaningful SEO traffic.

In 2024, one of the best ways to attract visitors to your website, improve your search engine rankings, and boost awareness of your brand is by publishing content online. We're talking about interesting, engaging, and helpful blog posts, listicles, ebooks, infographics, and whitepapers that help you earn your target audience's trust while perform better in search rankings.

However, writing quality website content takes time, expertise, and talent. Because while writing may seem easy, it takes a lot of effort. Yet, much of the time hiring a full-time content writer who has what it takes to craft solid, engaging, valuable content just isn’t in your budget.

So what do you do? Well, you go through a content writing service, of course. By hiring teams full of experienced, professional writers who specialize in SEO content, the SEO content writing services on this list can deliver high quality content at a reasonable price. It's pretty much a no-brainer.

Why use content writing services?

When hiring a full-time, in-house content writer is off the table, pretty much the only option you are left with is to turn to freelancers. And while contract SEO content writers are often brimming with experience, talent, and great work ethic, if you're just starting out it may be intimidating for some. This means that the trial and error process of finding the right freelancer for your company can cost a pretty penny, not to mention waste quite a bit of your time.

That’s why SEO content writing services are so useful. These companies have already done the work of choosing the best content writers so that you don’t have to. Instead of worrying about negotiating rates and paying contractor invoices, you can let the content writing service take care of it for you.

To put it simply, you do less work to meet your content needs and you get the best results. Sound like something you want to try? If so, you’re in luck, because we’ve gathered the eight best SEO content writing services for you below. With various strengths and a range of pricing packages, they represent a variety of options well worth considering.

What Factors Impact Content Writing Prices in India?

Nowadays written content has become an essential part of each and every marketing campaign in India. However, the content writing price in India is comparatively less expensive than in the U.K. and the U.S.

In India, there are several elements that affect the charges one has to pay for a piece of content. Let’s look at them one at a time:

1. Word Count

When a business is looking to order some content they must keep word count in mind. The number of words to write is the primary unit that determines the content creation charges.

For example, at Das Writing Services our minimum charge is â‚č2.4 per word and the maximum is â‚č3.36 per word.

In simple words, the length of the content has an influence on the price of the content in India.

number of words as one of the parameters of content writing price

2. Order Type

It is what it’s like in every business: the more voluminous the order the less you have to pay per word. For example, at Das Writing Services, we charge our clients â‚č2.4 per word only if the order is more than 1 lakh words per month; the charges increase to â‚č2.64 per word when the order is up to 1 lakh words per month; and â‚č3.36 per word when the order is below 10 thousand per month.

3. Content-Type

The digital marketing scenario consists of various types of content, like ranges in a mechanic’s toolbox, which serve various purposes. For example, the most common types of content that marketers use in their digital marketing strategy are blog posts, videos, social media posts, podcasts, infographics, user-generated content, case studies, eBooks, etc.

different content writing services provided by Das Writing Services

Among these, only the user-generated content does not involve cost per se. Otherwise, the cost per content depends on the type as the type dictates the amount of attention it can grab and leave an impact or influence.

Moreover, if a piece of content is written with a specific intention in mind (let’s say you want to increase the conversion rate through blogging) the costs will rise.

4. Experience in the Business

According to Google’s updated search rater guidelines, a search result in the SERP should be according to EEAT standards . The latest addition in the update is the first E in the EEAT. It stands for first-hand “Experience”. Google will prefer creative content more when the topic is written by someone who has first-hand experience on a given subject.

EEAT guidelines to be followed to write rank-worthy website content

Businesses that do not have the expertise to craft compelling content have to hire professional content writing agencies for the job. It is clear that a content writing company that does not have sufficient experience in the field cannot emulate its client’s first-hand experience. They may not help your brand get a high ranking on the SERP.

5. Subject-Matter Experts

Subject Matter Experts have a revered place in the content writing industry. This is due to their ability to create high-quality content that ranks high on the SERP . They support facts and information written within the content with accurate data. It guarantees the engagement of content and the establishment of authoritativeness.

Why subject matter experts charges higher for content writing

How Much is the Freelance Content Writing Charges in India?

First of all, let us face the truth that there is no official source that defines content writing price per word in India. Freelancers charge based on some similar elements discussed before. For example, the charge will go up if the writer is comparatively more experienced or the content has some difficult targets to meet.

We have made the following charts that contain what Freelancers in India were charging in 2024.

1. Content Writing Charges of Freelancers for Blog Posts

2. content writing charges of freelancers for website content, 3. content writing charges of freelancers for ads.

In this regard, there are other bases of payments too. For example, freelance writers can charge based on the time it would take to generate each piece of content. However, this can be a problematic situation if there is a lack of honesty from the writer’s side.

Businesses find freelancers from websites like Freelancers.com, Upwork, Fiver, etc. However, you must know how to find the best professional content writers for your business.

How Much is the Content Writing Prices of an Agency in India?

Among numerous content agencies in India, only a few deliver content that actually generates significant ROI for their clients.

If you can connect with a content writing agency you can craft a batch of content at a lower rate compared to an “Expert” freelancer. Moreover, if you can crack a deal with a writing agency that has been operating in this industry for a long time, you can expect serious positive changes in your ROI.

For example, at Das Writing Services, we go the extra mile in each aspect of content creation – starting from competitor research to writing and delivery of content. Our professional writers understand clients’ requirements to ensure results (way after the product is delivered) we have a proper set-up that allows a smooth creative experience. You can check the portfolio of Das Writing Services to know the clients we have handled.

Das Writing Services not only takes the order and delivers it, but we actually look for what your business needs and suggest the best modification to the order.

For example, content length, on-page and off-page optimisation, technical SEO, etc., need to be done differently to rank for “best tourist agency in Mumbai” and “best tourist agency in Jawahar”. However, this is a simple situation. Our expert content creators can suggest the best course of action depending on the purpose.

We have categorised the average content writing prices that agencies charge in India.

1. Content Writing Charges of Agencies for Blog Posts

2. content writing charges of agencies for website content, 3. content writing charges of agencies for ads.

At Das Writing Prices, our content writing charges per word depending on the volume of the project as mentioned earlier. If you want to dive deeper, do visit the home page. There you can also get a free sample for your business-specific projects. Judge the quality first and then make a decision.

From Where to Get Maximum Value by Paying Minimum Content Writing Charges

At Das Writing Services, we have handled a lot of clients throughout the years and have helped them achieve their desired results be it ranking in the SERP, or increasing conversion rates.

If you are someone who is looking for content that performs well on the search engine, brings in the intended traffic, motivates visitors to engage with your site, and takes action; we have the perfect solution.
