How and why you should delete your browser history

Your  browser history  isn’t just a list of the sites you’ve visited recently. It also encompasses passwords and personal information, website cookies, and saved data in your browser cache.

Clearing this data on a regular basis can not only improve the performance of your device and your browser, but it can also protect your privacy. Learn how to clear your browser history beyond your search data and recent websites.

What’s in your browser history?

Yes, there may be more to your browser history than meets the eye. Here’s what included:

• Search history . In addition to your website browsing history, the information stored by your search engine is stored both locally on your device as well as in your account. If you recently searched for hotels for vacation, for example, or are shopping for specific products, this knowledge of your recent interests can be used to track your online presence.
• Saved data . Password and address autofill is a convenient way to avoid retyping the same information over again, but this information can also be vulnerable to leaks and data breaches—especially if your passwords aren’t secure or are commonly used.
• Cookies .   Tracking cookies are a necessary part of the Internet: they personalize your experience on websites and make online shopping possible. But third-party tracking cookies are used to target specific ads for you, which can seem like an invasion of privacy (especially based on your past search history). They’re also less secure than cookies from specific websites.
• Cache .   When you visit a website, your browser automatically stores files, data, and background images to help web pages load faster and to facilitate online forms. Over time, this information can clutter up your browser’s performance.

How to clear your browser history

Modern browsers like  Microsoft Edge  make it easy to clear your stored data. Click on the three dots on the upper right side to open  Settings and more .   Then, select  Privacy , search , and services > Clear browsing data .

Here, Microsoft Edge gives you an option to clear some or all categories of data—this is useful if you want to retain your saved passwords. Select  Choose what to clear  and then tick the boxes of what you’d like to clear. Microsoft Edge will also tell you how many cookies it currently holds and how much storage has been taken up by the cache in megabytes (mb). Select  Clear now , and you’re all set.

You can also choose to have Microsoft Edge clear all or some of your browser data when you close your browser. The option  Choose what to clear every time you close the browser  will bring you to a new menu where you can toggle everything to delete when you exit out of your browser.

Your website history is stored in most web browsers, letting you go back to see which sites you visited and what you searched for on search engines. You can also delete your search history to clean it up or to prevent others from seeing websites you visited. Viewing and deleting search history is straightforward in all web browsers.

How to View, Search and Delete History in Chrome

Use Ctrl+H to go to your history in Chrome. The history appears on a full page in a new tab, organized by time. Mobile users should tap the three-button menu and choose History .

You can browse search history in Chrome with the search box at the top of the History page. Just start typing, and your search history will become filtered automatically to show only the items that match your search.

If you're using the Chrome mobile app, tap the search icon at the top to find the search box.

If you find part of your Chrome search history that you want to keep but decide that there's something particular you want to remove, press the three-dotted button next to that specific item, and then choose Remove from history .

Mobile users can erase a single website from their history by tapping the small x off to the right.

Another way to erase your Chrome search history is to delete it all in one action.

Stay on the History tab.

Select Clear browsing data to open a new window, and choose Browsing history .

You can change the Time range value to whatever works for you, and then press Clear data to delete your browsing history and search history.

The Chrome app for mobile devices works the same way: use the Clear browsing data link on the History page to see the same screen shown above.

How to View, Search and Delete History in Microsoft Edge

The Ctrl+H shortcut opens your history in Edge. The items show up on the right side of the screen sorted by date. For the mobile app, tap the three-dotted menu button at the bottom and then choose History.

There's an x next to each item in your Edge history that you can press to remove them from the History page immediately. If you're on the mobile app, press-and-hold an item to find the Delete option.

Alternatively, you can delete your entire search history in one action.

On the left menu of Edge's list of your search history, select Clear browsing data .

Ensure that Browsing history is one of the chosen items.

Select Clear now .

On the Edge mobile app, from the History page, select the trash icon at the top and then choose Clear . Select Browsing history before deleting.

How to View, Search and Delete History in Firefox

Enter Ctrl+H from your keyboard to see all your Firefox search and web history. The History panel opens on the left side of Firefox, organized by day by default, but can be customized to show the history by site and frequency of use. For the Firefox mobile app, tap the three-button menu and choose History .

Type something into the search box above the Firefox history list to instantly search through your search history and the websites you've visited.

Erasing a single web page or search item from your history in Firefox is as easy as right-clicking it and choosing Delete Page . If you're using the mobile app, press-and-hold and then select Remove .

Firefox lets you erase all your history through the Clear All History menu.

Get there with the Ctrl+Shift+Del keyboard shortcut.

Make sure Browsing & Download History and Form & Search History is chosen from the list, and then press Clear Now .

If you want to erase only recent history, change the Time range to clear option to something other than Everything .

The Firefox mobile app lets you clear the web search history, too, by selecting CLEAR BROWSING HISTORY on the History page.

How to View, Search and Delete History in Safari

Go to History > Show All History at the top of the browser to view your Safari history. All of your recently visited sites are listed on a single page, sorted by day. For the mobile app, tap the bookmarks icon on the bottom and then the clock icon at the top.

Look through your Safari history from the History page. Start typing into the text box at the top of the page, and the results populate instantly.

To delete single search history items from Safari, locate what you want to remove and right-click it to find the Delete option. You can delete an entire day's worth of history, too.

Mobile Safari users can selectively delete history items by swiping to the left and then tapping Delete .

To delete all search history in Safari, use the Clear History button on the History page. Choose how much to remove — the last hour , today , today and yesterday , or all history — and then choose Clear History .

The Safari app lets you delete all your history, too, via the Clear button on the bottom of the History page.

How to View, Search and Delete History in Opera

The Ctrl+H shortcut lets you view your Opera web history. The history list shows up in a new tab called History. If you're using the mobile app, tap the Opera menu icon on the bottom, and then select History .

On the History page in Opera is a search box at the top that you can use to search through old search history items and browse websites you've already opened. Just type and then wait a moment for the results to populate.

To remove particular search history items in Opera, hover your mouse over the item you want to delete and then select the x off to the right. If you're on the mobile app, press the three-dotted menu to the right of the item and then choose Delete .

You can also delete all of your Opera history from the same page, with the Clear browsing data button. From there, make sure Browsing History is selected and that the set Time range is as you want it, and then press Clear data .

The Opera app makes clearing all the history a little easier. Just select the trash icon at the top of the History page.

How to View, Search and Delete History in Yandex

Like most browsers, your Yandex search history is accessible from the Ctrl+H shortcut.

After opening the search history in Yandex, locate the search box at the upper-right corner of the page. You might have to scroll if your browser window is too small to see it. Type the search term and press Enter to view the search history that matches.

Yandex is like Chrome when it comes to deleting a specific page from your history: hover your mouse over the item that needs to be deleted, press the small arrow, and then choose Remove from history .

Use the Clear history link to the right of your history items to open a new prompt where you can delete all the history in Yandex. Choose how far back to remove the search history and then select Views . Select Clear to erase it all.

Removing the Yandex browsing and search history on the mobile app is done through the menus. Tap the menu bottom on the bottom and choose Settings , and then Clear data . Select History before tapping Clear data .

To delete your browsing or search history on your iPhone , open Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data . Alternately, open Safari and select Bookmarks > History > Clear > All time . Note that this process only applies to your iPhone's built-in Safari web browser and other browsers may require different steps.

To clear your search history in YouTube , sign into the site via a web browser and select History > Search History > Clear All Search History . Or if you use the YouTube app, select your profile icon on iOS (or the Menu icon on Android) > Settings > Clear search history > OK .

Clearing your Google search history on mobile requires using the Chrome app. On Android, select the three dots > History > Clear Browsing Data > All time > Clear data . On iOS, select the three dots > History > Clear Browsing Data > All Time > make sure Browsing History is checked > select Clear Browsing Data twice.

Manage & delete your Search history

When you search on Google with Web & App Activity turned on, Google saves activity like your Search history to your Google Account. Web & App Activity saves data about the things you do across Google services, including associated info like locations, in your account to make your experience more personalized. We use your saved activity to give you more personalized experiences, like app and content recommendations.

In My Activity , you can:

• Delete Search history saved to your Google Account.
• Manage Search settings like what activity Google saves and when Google auto-deletes your history.

Your Search history can also be saved to your device, like when you use the Google app while signed out of your Google Account. Learn how to manage your on-device Search history .

Important: If you delete Search history that’s saved to your Google Account, you can’t get it back.

You can delete a specific activity, or delete your Search history from a specific day, a custom date range, or all time.

• On your computer, go to your Search history in My Activity .

Control your Search history

• On the left or at the top, click Controls .
• If you find “Auto-delete (On), ” Google automatically deletes your Web & App Activity, which includes your Search history, after a specific time period. To change the time period or turn it off, click Auto-delete (On) .
• Follow the on-screen instructions.

To pause saving your history:

• Under "Web & App Activity," click Turn off .
• Click Turn off or Turn off and delete activity .
• If you choose “Turn off and delete activity,” to select and confirm what activity you want to delete, follow the additional steps.

Manage Search history saved on your device

Even if your Search history isn’t saved to your Google Account, or you delete it from My Activity, your browser might still store it.

You can delete your browser history:

• In Chrome: Learn how to delete browsing history and other browsing data .
• In other browsers: Check your browser’s instructions.

If you’re signed out from your Google Account when you search on Google, you may find recommendations related to your recent search. If you don’t want to get these, turn off Search customization.

• On your computer, go to google.com .
• Turn off Search customization .

How Google deletes your history in your Google Account

When you choose to delete activity manually or activity is deleted automatically based on your auto-delete setting, we immediately start the process of removing it from the product and our systems.

If you want to view your search history to delete or manage certain websites, you can easily do so by navigating to your browser's History settings. The steps may vary slightly depending on the platform you're using, such as Windows and Mac or iPhone and Android. Check Your Browsing History

View and delete browser history in Microsoft Edge

You can view and clear your Microsoft Edge browsing history stored on a single device, across all synced devices, and in the cloud. You may choose to clear your browsing history at any time. 

Clear browsing data stored on your device

To clear your Microsoft Edge browsing data, first decide if you want to delete the data only on the device you're currently using, or across all synced devices. To clear browsing data just on the device you're currently using, make sure sync is turned off. If you want to clear browsing data on all synced devices, make sure you are signed in and sync is turned on.  Items that are synced will be cleared across all synced devices.

To turn off sync: 

Go to Settings   > Profiles  > Sync and select Turn off sync . 

To clear your browsing data in Microsoft Edge:

Select Settings and more  >  Settings   > Privacy, search, and services .

Under Clear browsing data > Clear browsing data now , select Choose what to clear .

Under Time range , choose a time range from the drop-down menu.

Choose the types of browsing data you want to clear (see the table below for descriptions). For example, you may want to remove browsing history and cookies but keep passwords and form fill data.

Select Clear now .

Clear browsing data stored in the cloud (if you’ve turned on sync or personalization)

To manage and delete data saved in the Microsoft cloud, see the privacy dashboard . On the privacy dashboard you can view or delete your data. Data that you delete on the privacy dashboard won’t be deleted from your device.

Clear internet explorer browsing data using microsoft edge.

Using Microsoft Edge, you can clear all browsing data from Internet Explorer. Clearing Internet Explorer browsing data won’t affect your browsing data in another browser.

Note:  This is only available if your organization has turned on Internet Explorer mode.

Under Clear browsing data for Internet Explorer > Clear browsing data now , select Choose what to clear .

Choose the types of data you want to clear.

History is the study of the human past as it is described in written documents left behind by humans. The past, with all of its complicated choices and events, participants dead and history told, is what the general public perceives to be the immutable bedrock on which historians and archaeologists  stand.

But as purveyors of the past, historians recognize that the bedrock is really quicksand, that bits of each story are yet untold, and that what has been told is colored by the conditions of today. While not untrue to say that history is the study of the past, here is a collection of much more clear and accurate descriptions.

No one could argue that the best definition isn't a short one, but it helps if you can be witty as well.

What is Memorial Day?

The holiday takes place annually on the last Monday in May and is a dedicated day for honoring U.S. military personnel who have died while serving in the United States armed forces.

Over 1.3 Million Americans have paid the ultimate sacrifice for their nation.

When was Memorial Day first celebrated?

Memorial Day was originally called "Decoration Day." On May 30 1868, the head of an organization of Union veterans, Maj. Gen. John A. Logan, established Decoration Day as a way for the nation to honor the graves of those who died in the Civil War with flowers, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

It is believed that May 30th was chosen by Logan as the day to observe Decoration Day because flowers would be in bloom nationwide, according to the VA.

What state first celebrated Memorial Day?

There are debates over which city was the origin place of Memorial Day, although the first large observation was held at Arlington National Cemetery for a crowd of about 5,000 in 1868.

In 1966, President Lyndon Johnson declared Waterloo, New York the official "birthplace" of the holiday, according to the VA.

When was it declared a federal holiday?

In 1971, Congress declared Memorial Day a national holiday, placing it as the last Monday in May. According to the VA, the day was expanded to honor all those who have died in American wars.

Congress in December 2000 passed and the president signed into law "The National Moment of Remembrance Act," to ensure those who sacrificed their lives for the country were not forgotten.

How to observe Memorial Day

At 3 p.m. local time, Americans are asked to take part in the National Moment of Remembrance, a time to pause in a moment of silence to honor those who have died serving the U.S.

From the garage to the Googleplex

The Google story begins in 1995 at Stanford University. Larry Page was considering Stanford for grad school and Sergey Brin, a student there, was assigned to show him around.

By some accounts, they disagreed about nearly everything during that first meeting, but by the following year they struck a partnership. Working from their dorm rooms, they built a search engine that used links to determine the importance of individual pages on the World Wide Web. They called this search engine Backrub.

Soon after, Backrub was renamed Google (phew). The name was a play on the mathematical expression for the number 1 followed by 100 zeros and aptly reflected Larry and Sergey's mission “to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.”

Over the next few years, Google caught the attention of not only the academic community, but Silicon Valley investors as well. In August 1998, Sun co-founder Andy Bechtolsheim wrote Larry and Sergey a check for $100,000, and Google Inc. was officially born. With this investment, the newly incorporated team made the upgrade from the dorms to their first office: a garage in suburban Menlo Park, California, owned by Susan Wojcicki (employee #16 and former CEO of YouTube). Clunky desktop computers, a ping pong table, and bright blue carpet set the scene for those early days and late nights. (The tradition of keeping things colorful continues to this day.)

Even in the beginning, things were unconventional: from Google’s initial server (made of Lego) to the first “Doodle” in 1998: a stick figure in the logo announcing to site visitors that the entire staff was playing hooky at the Burning Man Festival. “Don't be evil” captured the spirit of our intentionally unconventional methods. In the years that followed, the company expanded rapidly — hiring engineers, building a sales team, and introducing the first company dog, Yoshka . Google outgrew the garage and eventually moved to its current headquarters (a.k.a.“The Googleplex”) in Mountain View, California. The spirit of doing things differently made the move. So did Yoshka.

The relentless search for better answers continues to be at the core of everything we do. Today, Google makes hundreds of products used by billions of people across the globe, from YouTube and Android to Gmail and, of course, Google Search. Although we’ve ditched the Lego servers and added just a few more company dogs, our passion for building technology for everyone has stayed with us — from the dorm room, to the garage, and to this very day.

Trump guilty, now what? Why the verdict isn't the most shocking part of the trial

T he most shocking thing about the first-ever criminal trial of a former U.S. president may not be the guilty verdict that a New York jury delivered Thursday afternoon.

It's this: It is possible, even probable, that one of the most momentous trials in American history won't end up affecting American history − at least not in time to reshape the presidential campaign in which Donald Trump is all−but-guaranteed to be the Republican nominee.

"Unprecedented" − admittedly an overworked word since Trump announced his first presidential campaign nine years ago − undeniably applies. The 45th president of the United States is now a convicted felon.

In a hushed courtroom, the jury foreperson read their unanimous conclusion.

Count 1: Guilty.

Count 2: Guilty.

Count 3: Guilty.

Count 4: Guilty.

Count 5: Guilty.

And so, it went through all 34 counts: Guilty. Guilty. Guilty. Convicted of falsifying business records to cover up hush money payments to a porn star, part of an effort to affect the outcome of the 2016 election. The jury of seven men and five women dismissed the protestations of innocence from a defendant who once lived in the White House and has a realistic possibility of moving back in.

Judge Juan Merchan set sentencing for July 11, four days before the Republican National Convention begins in Milwaukee. None of the other three criminal cases against Trump is likely to go to trial before the November election.

"The FIX was always in..." Trump's campaign manager, Chris LaCivita, posted instantly on the social-media platform known as X, formerly called Twitter. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, on the list of Trump's potential running mates, declared, "The verdict in New York is a complete travesty that makes a mockery of our system of justice," calling it "a political show trial."

A seething Trump, his face flushed, used the word "rigged" five times when he briefly addressed reporters outside the courtroom.

"This is far from over," he declared looking ahead to Election Day, now less than six months away. Calling it a "rigged, disgraceful trial," Trump said "the real verdict is going to be Nov. 5 by the people who know what happened here."

He blamed, without evidence, that President Biden had orchestrated a politically motivated prosecution.

Trump announced his determination to appeal, a process that will have to unfold before he could conceivably be sent to jail or be fined.

Even so, the unanimous verdict by 12 citizens, a decision that took them less than 12 hours of deliberation to reach, surely carried a certain force. For Trump, the conviction immediately became his leading grievance. "I'm a political prisoner!" he declared on Truth Social, asking for campaign contributions.

For Biden, it just as quickly became a rallying cry.

"There's only one way to keep Donald Trump out of the Oval Office: At the ballot box," the president, who generally shied from commenting on the trial while it was going on, posted on X.

Biden coupled it with an appeal for campaign contributions, too.

Public opinion of former President Donald Trump has largely remained unchanged after he received a guilty verdict in his Manhattan hush money case last week, a pair of new polls shows.

Trump’s public approval rating was at 31% after the verdict was handed down Thursday, according to an ABC News/Ipsos poll published Sunday — statistically unchanged since March, when the 77-year-old’s approval rating stood at 29%.

The poll was conducted after a jury convicted Trump of all 34 counts of falsifying business records to conceal evidence of payments to porn star Stormy Daniels so she would keep quiet ahead of the 2016 election about an alleged affair with the Republican candidate a decade earlier.

President Biden’s favorability numbers also largely remained flat, with the survey finding 32% of respondents approving compared to 33% approval in March.

Half of Americans agreed with the guilty verdict and 49% of respondents said Trump should drop out of the 2024 election — but responses were largely split along party lines.

More than three-quarters (79%) of Democrats said the former president should suspend his campaign and 52% of independents said the same, compared to only 16% of Republicans.

Meanwhile, 47% of respondents said they believed the charges brought by Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg were politically motivated, essentially uncharged from a survey conducted last year.

The ABC News/Ipsos poll was conducted online May 31 and June 1, with a sample size of 781 adults and a margin of error of plus or minus 3.7%.

Meanwhile, a snap HarrisX poll conducted after the verdict showed similar results, with 51% of respondents finding the trial “politically motivated.”

The poll, conducted overnight after the verdict was announced, showed 30% of respondents saying the guilty verdict made them more likely to vote for Trump, 27% saying it made them less likely to support the 45th president and 44% saying it had no impact on their vote.

The poll also showed Trump leading Biden by a single percentage point nationally (43%-42%), with 14% still undecided. With leaners included, Trump led Biden 51% to 49%.

In a five-way race, Trump received 40%, Biden had 38% support and independent Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was backed by 11% of respondents. Green Party candidate Jill Stein and independent candidate Cornel West received 1% support each.

The HarrisX poll was conducted online May 30-31, and had a sample size of 1,006 registered voters and a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1%.

Trump is scheduled to be sentenced July 11, one week before he is due to accept the Republican nomination for president.

Following Thursday’s verdict, the former president attended an evening fundraiser in New York City and spent time Friday morning with his family at Trump Tower before leaving to spend the weekend at his golf club in Bedminster, NJ.

On Saturday night, Trump attended UFC 302 at the Prudential Center in Newark.

The presumptive Republican nominee’s first campaign rally since the verdict is set to take place Sunday afternoon in Nevada.

When are the 2024 NCAA outdoor track and field championships?

The 2024 NCAA outdoor track and field championships are from Wednesday, June 5 through Saturday, June 8. Both the men's and women's championships are held simultaneously.

Where are the 2024 NCAA outdoor track and field championships?

The 2024 NCAA outdoor track and field championships will be held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. It will be the 15th time the outdoor championships have been held in Oregon and the first time since 2022.

How are championship participants selected?

The NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Track and Field and Cross Country Committee will select and announce the participants for the 2024 NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

The top 48 declared student-athletes will be accepted into the first round competitions for each individual event. The top 24 declared relay teams will be accepted into the first round competitions for each relay event.

Combined events do not attend the first round. For combined events (Heptathlon and Decathlon), the top 24 declared student-athletes in each event based on their position on the national descending-order list will be accepted directly into the Championships. 

There are two first rounds, one for the east region and one for the west region. The qualifiers out of these two regions will compete in the 2024 NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

When is the championship field selected?

The 2024 DI men and women's outdoor track and field final site selections will be announced on Tuesday, May 28.

First round selection

Qualifying performances for the 2024 first rounds can begin March 1. The qualifying window closes for every meet that isn't a conference championship on Sunday, May 12. The qualifying window closes for conference championship meets on Monday, May 13.

Athletes accepted into the first rounds will be announced on Thursday, May 16.

Championship selection

Combined event athletes (heptathlon and decathlon) accepted into the championship meet will be announced on Thursday, May 16.

The top 12 competitors from each individual event and the top 12 teams from each relay event advance from each first round. The list of qualifiers from each event contested in the first rounds will be announced by 5 p.m. ET on Sunday, May 26. The final list of the championships competition participants will be announced by 3 p.m. ET on Tuesday, May 28.

A single word rings out in a Manhattan courtroom as Donald Trump becomes the first American president convicted of a crime.

The single word that rang out in a Manhattan courtroom a little past 5 p.m. on Thursday afternoon shook the country, making Donald Trump the first American president convicted of a crime.

It was a landmark — and, for Trump’s supporters, a black mark — in American history.

The word “guilty” actually was heard 34 times, as the jury — seven men and five women — found the former president guilty of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records to cover up a $130,000 hush-money payment to Stormy Daniels.

The verdict shattered a late afternoon languor inside the Manhattan courthouse where Trump’s trial had played out over the last month and a half, during which time the jury heard a sweeping and sometimes sordid tale of sex, payoffs and presidential politics.

How the outcome affects the 2024 presidential campaign remains to be seen. Trump could use the conviction to galvanize his base and fund-raising, as he has after arrests in other cases, three of which are still pending. On Thursday, after the verdict was read, he assailed what he called “a rigged trial by a conflicted judge who is corrupt.”

“A disgrace,” he said.

Biden’s warning

Shortly after the verdict was read aloud in court, President Biden posted a fund-raising appeal, saying that the verdict alone would not be enough to derail Trump or his supporters.

“There’s only one way to keep Donald Trump out of the Oval Office: At the ballot box,” Biden wrote.

That was one thing Biden and Trump agreed on: Trump told reporters that “the real verdict is going to be Nov. 5 by the people.”

It is not clear what Trump’s legal status will be on Election Day. He is almost certain to appeal today’s verdict, and that process could take months or even longer. In the meantime, Trump will confront the nitty-gritty of the New York State criminal justice system: a meeting with the Probation Department, a pre-sentence report, and then — at 10 a.m. on July 11 — his sentencing.

Trump, a first-time offender, faces probation or up to four years in prison.

That decision will fall to the judge, Juan Merchan, who has been the target of Trump’s attacks during the trial. Trump also attacked the judge’s daughter — a political consultant who has worked with prominent Democrats — prompting Justice Merchan to expand a gag order before the trial began, barring the former president from attacking members of his family. The order also protected witnesses and jurors, both of whom were targets of Trump’s vitriol.

A triumph for Bragg

The verdict was a victory for Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan district attorney who staked his reputation on a prosecution that many legal analysts questioned. But in the end, his strategy was a winning one. The verdict also provided vindication for two crucial witnesses: Michael Cohen, Trump’s former lawyer and fixer; and Daniels, the porn star who testified about a brief, unpleasant sexual encounter with Trump in Lake Tahoe, Nev., in 2006. That encounter led to the $130,000 payoff from Cohen, which led — in turn — to his reimbursement, which led — in turn — to the falsification of business records for which Trump was convicted.

That cascading narrative spanned a decade, from the hotel encounter to the days before the 2016 election, and spilled out in a trial that subjected both Cohen and Daniels to often blistering cross-examination.

Trump denied ever having sex with Daniels, despite her precise details about the night of their encounter — what was in his bathroom, how he waited for her in his boxers, sitting on a bed. Trump’s lawyers were aggressive in suggesting she was lying, even as she stood fast. But defense lawyers rested their hopes on destroying the credibility of Cohen, whom they painted as a pathetic sycophant and money-hungry opportunist. He, too, largely remained steady, despite admitting to many lies during his life, and career, as Trump’s fixer.

In the end, it appeared that the jury was not swayed by the defense’s attacks. Though the testimony lasted more than five weeks, the jury took less than two full days of deliberations to find the former president guilty.

Trump’s initial reaction was muted: He sat in the courtroom, in a red pleather chair, placidly listening as the jury foreman repeated the same word over and over. As the individual jurors were polled, he looked over at the jury box.

Moments later, those 12 New Yorkers — drawn from the many neighborhoods of Manhattan, where Trump made his name as a brash businessman — left the courtroom, walking right past the man they had just convicted.

Is it legal for a felon to run for president? — Laura Downs, Florence, Italy

Answer: This question, which has been bouncing around since the prospect of a criminal trial of Trump first arose, obviously takes on new importance after today’s verdict. But the answer remains the same: Yes.

There is no constitutional or legal prohibition to a felon running for — or even serving as — president, unlike some other elected positions. Whether voters decide to make that happen, of course, remains to be seen.
