There’s a lot to like about Xfinity Mobile, which offers an assortment of unlimited and by-the-gig plans. Xfinity is an affordable option among the larger-scale providers, with prices that rival smaller companies. Thanks to the Verizon network it relies on, you get perhaps the best nationwide coverage. Reviewers give Xfinity high marks for the bottom-line savings you can see when you bundle cell phone and internet services, which is the only way you can get Xfinity Mobile service.

Xfinity Mobile has an assortment of mobile plans in two categories: Unlimited and By the Gig. You can mix and match a combination of both categories to create your own customized package.

As with many unlimited plans, there are in fact soft data caps with the Xfinity Mobile Unlimited packages, meaning you will experience reduced speeds once you hit a certain threshold of data usage for each line.

Xfinity Mobile uses the Verizon network, which has nationwide coverage except for a few spots mostly in the western part of the country. The 5G network is strongest around major metropolitan areas. Almost all U.S. residents have access to at least 4G LTE service through this network. It’s among the best cell networks in the nation.

It also sometimes offers bonuses, such as a prepaid debit card, if you switch to Xfinity Mobile and transfer your own device (some exclusions apply). You can order a device or transfer an existing device online or by going to an Xfinity retail store in person. You will need to choose your device – if you’re not transferring a device you already have – and select your plan. Keep in mind, you can only get Xfinity Mobile service if you are already an Xfinity Internet customer or plan to get Xfinity Internet service at the same time you start Xfinity Mobile service.

You can cancel your service and get a refund for your device if you make your request within 14 days of picking up the phone in the store or its shipping date. There are some exceptions and restrictions, and a restocking fee typically applies for any device returns.

You can request a refund for the cost of your device (minus any applicable restocking fees) within 14 days of when your device is shipped or picked up at the store. You can also cancel your service and get a refund for any service charges for the same period.

You can cancel your service online via chat. However, if you transfer your number to a new carrier, your Xfinity service will be canceled automatically without any action on your part. If you have an Unlimited plan, the final charges will be calculated based on how many days you had service during that billing period.

My monthly cell phone bill got a lot cheaper after I made the switch to Comcast’s Xfinity Mobile , a low-cost wireless provider that uses Verizon’s network.

A few months after Xfinity Mobile launched in 2017, I signed up for the wireless plan and typically spent only $15 per month.

Over my first 12 months with them, I paid a total of $180.11 for cell phone service.

Xfinity Mobile has grown to more than six million customers, but the company is facing increased competition from other providers like Visible by Verizon .

Is Xfinity Mobile still worth? In this article, I’ll use my personal experience to expand on the pros and cons of the service.

My review is different from some of the other Xfinity Mobile reviews you may find online because I’m not just a writer — I’ve tested the service multiple times as a paying customer.

1. Eligibility Requirement

Xfinity Mobile is unlike other mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) because you must be an Xfinity Internet customer to sign up for the service. That’s a hard requirement.

You can save up to $25 per month on your internet bill by bundling with Xfinity Mobile.

If you’ve had a lot of issues with Comcast cable or internet in the past, I can understand why you may not want to consider this service. I was willing to take the risk.

No Comcast in your area? Unfortunately, you’re not eligible for the mobile offer. Consider a service like Verizon-owned Visible instead.

If you sign up for Xfinity Mobile and later cancel Xfinity internet because you move or for any other reason, you can continue to use Xfinity Mobile.

However, there will be a $25/month per line fee added to your bill.

To be clear, that fee is not charged if you maintain Xfinity internet service. It’s only assessed if you later discontinue internet service.

Ask yourself these two questions:

  • Is Xfinity the best or only high-speed internet option where I live?
  • Am I planning to stay in my home or in an area where Xfinity offers service?

If you’re pretty satisfied with Xfinity’s internet service and plan to stay with them, you may be able to save money by adding wireless service with Xfinity Mobile.

2. Plans and Pricing

Depending on your plan, Xfinity Mobile gets you Verizon’s network for about half the price that Verizon charges.

Xfinity Mobile pricing for the By the Gig plan starts at $20 a month, while the Unlimited plan is $40 a month for a single line of service.

Xfinity Mobile now offers two Unlimited plans and the By the Gig plan .

Unlimited Plans

The Unlimited plan is Xfinity Mobile’s cheapest option for unlimited data. It costs $40 a month for a single line, but it becomes a better value for two or more lines of service.

This plan is Xfinity Mobile’s most popular unlimited data option.

Why pay more for Xfinity’s new Unlimited Plus? They include more high-speed data, more mobile hotspot data and better video streaming quality.

Here’s a look at the key differences between the Unlimited plans:

Multi-line pricing for the Unlimited plans is based on the total number of Xfinity Mobile lines on your account, including By the Gig.

That way, not everyone on your account needs to be on an Unlimited plan to enjoy the savings.

By the Gig Plan

For lighter data users, Xfinity Mobile’s By the Gig plan is the cheapest option starting at $20 per month for 1GB of high-speed data.

If you exceed 1GB of data, you can pay $20 per additional GB.

The By the Gig plan is available for single lines or the data can be shared across multiple lines on your account.

More Pricing Details

Taxes and fees are extra with all plans — Unlimited and By the Gig.

There are no phone line access fees on up to 10 lines of service, but you will pay a $25 line setup charge for all new lines.

Xfinity Mobile is a postpaid carrier, not prepaid. That means you pay at the end of your billing cycle.

A soft credit inquiry may be required, which won’t affect your credit scores. Based on the credit check, you can qualify for up to 10 lines.

You can manage your Xfinity Mobile account billing through the Xfinity app.

3. Flexible Data Plans: Unlimited vs. By the Gig

Here’s what I really like about Xfinity Mobile’s service: Many other cell phone plans will offer 2GB or 5GB of data for a set price per month, use it or lose it.

However, Xfinity Mobile gives you the option to pay for your data one gigabyte at a time.

For example, you can choose the 1GB plan and pay $20 per month. If you need a second GB of data, just pay another $20.

But if you need more data, just switch. You can make changes to your plan during the middle of your billing cycle.

That includes switching from By the Gig to Unlimited if a line on your account uses a lot of data.

4. Data Speeds

Xfinity Mobile added 5G coverage in May 2020 and it’s been expanding rapidly ever since. The service’s wireless plans include access to Verizon’s C-Band and 5G Ultra Wideband.

5G Ultra Wideband is Verizon’s fastest 5G. I tested it using Xfinity Mobile from Miami Beach, Florida.

Using the Speedtest app , I recorded download speeds of more than 3 Gbps (gigabits per second), which is equal to 3,000 Mbps (megabits per second).

But in areas where 5G Ultra Wideband was not available, 5G speeds were slower — like 80 Mbps.

Overall, the 5G speed test results from Xfinity Mobile were faster than the speeds I recorded with Xfinity Mobile on the 4G LTE network.

When connected to 4G LTE, download speeds from 40 to 70 Mbps were typical.

5. Mobile Hotspot 

Mobile hotspot is included with Xfinity Mobile at no additional charge. This allows you to get online by using your mobile data to create an internet connection.

For example, I tested this feature when I needed to use my computer while traveling in a place without Wi-Fi.

Although the Unlimited Intro plan has a 600kbps speed cap for mobile hotspot, I could still read emails and browse the web. However, sometimes video would buffer.

The more expensive Unlimited Plus and Unlimited Premium plans offer faster hotspot data.

  • Unlimited Intro plan: 600kbps mobile hotspot speeds
  • Unlimited Plus plan: 15GB of 5G/4G mobile hotspot speeds, then 600kbps
  • By the Gig plan: 4G LTE mobile hotspot speeds

The By the Gig plan offers high-speed hotspot data, but it will count toward your monthly data limit. If you use mobile hotspot frequently, I recommend an Unlimited plan.

6. Video Streaming

Streaming in high definition is important to many users. With the expansion of its Unlimited plans in December 2022, Xfinity Mobile is offering more HD streaming options.

  • Unlimited Intro plan: Standard-definition 480p LTE streaming on all devices
  • Unlimited Plus plan: High-definition 720p LTE streaming on all devices

In addition, Xfinity Mobile says 5G-capable devices will get the highest possible video resolution when connected to 5G service.

The By the Gig plan defaults to HD resolution (720p for phones, 1080p for tablets), but users can turn on LTE Data Saver to watch videos in standard definition.

Of course, you can always connect to Wi-Fi to stream video in HD. That won’t count against your cellular data!

7. Call and Text Performance

I had a great experience with Verizon’s network in the past, so I wasn’t really worried about Xfinity Mobile’s call and text performance where I live.

Since Xfinity Mobile runs on Verizon’s network, the coverage map looks a lot like the one for Verizon’s postpaid service. The difference is that Xfinity Mobile also has millions of Wi-Fi hotspots.

When you connect to Xfinity hotspots, the data you use doesn’t count against your monthly limit.

Another great feature is that Xfinity Mobile supports Voice over LTE (VoLTE), which let me talk and use data at the same time.

Wi-Fi calling has also been expanded to all but a few devices with Xfinity Mobile.

8. Phone Selection 

The latest iPhones and Samsung devices make up most of the 20+ phones that Xfinity Mobile sells online and in its stores, but there are a couple of options for under $200.

Xfinity Mobile now allows you to bring select Androids to its network. They include most Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel devices. Unlocked iPhones are also compatible.

In addition to BYOD, you can purchase phones, tablets and smartwatches from Xfinity Mobile.

Speaking of phone deals, there’s typically a sale going on for high-end devices like the latest Samsung Galaxy or Apple iPhone.

To get the phone discount, you must transfer your number and pay for the device over 24 months.

If there’s not a deal for the type of phone that you want, just wait a few weeks. The sales change frequently.

eSIM is available for select devices . Otherwise, Xfinity Mobile will mail you a physical SIM card.

9. Customer Service

I set up my Xfinity Mobile service without ever visiting a store and didn’t have any problems getting started.

There are a number of FAQ pages that you can find within the app to answer questions about setting up service, switching data plans, billing and more.

You can also contact customer support via text, Facebook Messenger and phone — with an estimated wait time given. Xfinity Mobile’s customer service number is (888) 936-4968.

The first time I needed to contact Xfinity Mobile customer service was when my Samsung Galaxy S8 suddenly malfunctioned.

I went to an Xfinity Store and couldn’t get an immediate replacement, but I was mailed a new phone the next day.

Since my phone was less than a year old and still under warranty, no additional money came out of my pocket.

The second time I called Xfinity Mobile was to ask whether my Samsung Galaxy S8 was locked or unlocked. Apparently, it was locked.

Xfinity Mobile unlocked the device without a problem because it was paid off.

Final Thoughts

I saved a lot of money during my time with Xfinity Mobile.

Although Visible and US Mobile offer cell phone service plans that run on Verizon’s network, Xfinity Mobile may be worth considering for people who have Xfinity internet service.

Xfinity Mobile’s single-line pricing is not bad, but it’s much better for two or more lines of service.

My biggest fear about switching to Xfinity Mobile was that Comcast would take advantage of my loyalty and find a way to increase my internet bill — but that didn’t happen.

When my internet promo rate expired, I called Comcast’s customer retention department and they worked with me on the price.

Major gotcha for family plan type users: shared mobile data is not really true.

Xfinity mobile data plans are per phone, not per family or account. To share a data plan with another phone requires connecting via the phone’s local wifi hotspot feature. In other words, useless unless the phones are co-located.

XM pushes wifi connectivity. They do have a lot of hotspots. BUT, they are useless if you are mobile (in a car) and are not available everywhere.

The part about hotspots in the car is true. I don’t use my cell phone while driving, except for maps. I’ve trained myself to download them before leaving the house.

My wife and I each have XM phones. At home and almost everywhere we go, we have wifi so we use very little data. Most of the data use is for maps. Last month (September 2019), we used a combined .89 gig of data which XM rounded up 1 gig for billing purposes.

Nice! Same with me — used mostly for maps. You can also download offline maps to save even more data.

We’ve had XM for many years with 5 lines. With Wifi everywhere, we rarely go over 1 GB of data (combined). Our data is shared by all the phones on the account . Average bill is $12 (1 GB data) plus around $1 per phone line every month. Not sure what RICKR is referring to as the 5 phones are rarely in the same state during the month. Coverage is incredible wherever Verizon has cell towers.

How about a simple phone call? (that was the original mobile phone use). Hands free, of course.

Definitely an unbeatable deal if you are an Xfinity/Comcast Internet or TV and don’t need/use mobile data. I’ve been an XM customer since May 2018 and very please with the unlimited talk/text service. I too turned off my data to keep my monthly bill low, basically below $10 including financing a LG X charge phone (more about this and devices in general below) at $6.25 for 24 months. If you need some data, as Michael suggest, it is a matter of will and training to live with WiFi-only data. OK, there have been an occasion that I wish or really needed mobile data–simply turn that data on temporarily which I did a couple of times. If you know or think you will go above $45 worth of mobile data temporarily, then temporarily change the plan from “By The Gig” to “Unlimited”.

As a sidebar, I’m also a T-Mobile customer presently with two other phones on their “Unlimited 55+” plan at $60 flat per month (place the name and billing on the account to someone who’s 55 or older–well, that’s now me). That’s a hard deal to beat, especially with how strong T-Mo has been coming on with service expansion and customer extras. (If you or a loved-one is in the military, then their “Military” deal, especially the more lines on the plan, is the best deal I’ve seen.) I’ve been a T-Mo customer for many years simply due to cost, an excellent customer service experience and every improving service. None the less, I gave XM a try and, like Michael, have been very please with their service, especially including their customer service. Like Michael and everyone else, I’ve hated Comcast non-mobile phone customer service, but I admit it is getting better. Net result is I’m ready to switch one or two of my T-Mo lines to XM. What’s holding me back?

Device restrictions are what’s holding me back. Specifically BYOP being limited to iPhones. XM really needs to get serious about BYO Android phone. One of my phones is a unlocked Android phone bought about a year ago with plenty of mileage left and the user is extremely happy with it. The other phone is not compatible with XM and is out-of-date anyways, but dropping one line means dropping the T-Mo “Unlimited 55+” plan. A bit of a dilemma.

I will say I am very please with the LG X charge phone I got through XM–it has been one of the best lower cost phones I’ve owned, but is no longer offered by XM. If you are lucky and willing to wait, then XM may be running a rebate deal on the phone of your choice that they offer. (Right now you can get $250 back on Samsung phones. I may bite the bullet and get a Galaxy S8, but I’d prefer one of the LG phone and the user of the unlocked phone wants nothing to do with Samsung due to a bad experience. Not long ago XM offered $150 off on the LG’s and lone Moto phone.)

You may have answered this somewhere already…but I went to an Xfinity store and the Rep there told me XM prorates their data. However, I have read on some articles that they round up to the next gig for cost (So 2.2GB used would be charged as 3GB or $36) Can you let me know if this is true? Or do they in fact prorate cost for data used? Thanks!

Yes, that is true. They’ll round up. From Xfinity Mobile’s website: “You’ll be charged by rounding up your data usage to the next GB at the end of each billing cycle. This means that if you use 2.2 GB of data, you’ll be charged for 3 GB, or $36. Each month, you start fresh.”

It’s crazy to me that the Xfinity Mobile rep told me that she’s never heard of them rounding up and that they prorate the cost…even when I questioned her a few times about it, she had the same answer. I am about to switch over to XM….I hope I am not going to be disappointed since XM does not have good reviews at all on Consumer Affairs website. But you (Michael) seem to be a positive reviewer of XM which makes me want to try it out. I will only have one line on my account, just for myself.

This is me too. It is just me now and am truly hoping the XM is a good choice!

It would be a good deal, if it worked as advertised! I’ve had XM for over 18 months, but will probably be leaving as soon as the phones are paid off. I live in an area with fairly weak cellular signals from most carriers, and I went with XM based on their assertion that my problem would be solved with their Voice over Wi-Fi service. Problem is, it doesn’t work and they can’t, or won’t, fix it. Attempting to use vowf results in a call drop rate of nearly 100% as soon as you answer the call. What good is a phone if you can’t answer your calls? It keeps trying to use the cellular signal, even if a much stronger wi-fi is available. Much worse is that they deny that there is a problem with the system. They will send out replacement sim cards until hell freezes over, and as a last resort, tell you to switch to airplane mode if any time you want to use the wi-fi. Go to their “forums” and search for “dropped calls” in the mobile section. Lots of users have the same problems, but nothing has changed in over a year. XM uses the forums as a way of derailing user complaints with platitudes from a guy named Ken, who never follows up, and the problem never gets solved. I give them an “F” for customer service.

Our journey from Sprint to Xfinity and from Xfinity to Xfinity.

We recently moved 4 cell phones from Sprint to Xfinity and one Cell phone from another Xfinity account to our account. BEWARE Xfinity has a MAJOR cell phone black hole. If you have a Xfinity phone, then it is assigned to a specific Xfinity internet account. If you close or move from that account your phone still works and you still pay your bill, but you cannot ever upgrade, or switch to another Xfinity account. Seems to me that a lot of people will experience this issue as they breakup, divorce, simply move to another household etc. That Xfinity cannot even move the phone from their own Xfinity account to another Xfinity account is unbelievable. There “solution” is go buy a cheap trac phone ($20) and activate your number ($12) and then bring that trac phone to their service center and they will port it to the target Xfinity account. Xfinity stated that the issue is because of Verizon who provides billing services to Xfinity mobile. Clearly, they never tested their process end to end which would have highlighted this gaping hole. On the 4 Sprint phones, we went to sprint and bought out leases on three I phones. We then discovered at Xfinity that we had to notify Sprint to unlock them. We were advised by Xfinity rep. that it should be unlocked in a couple hours. Contacted Sprint and made request. On a Sunday. We were not able to port over to Xfinity until Friday. On the final Sprint line, it was an Android phone. There we had to buy out the lease, but Xfinity will not move a non I Phone to Xfinity. We had to buy a new Android phone from Xfinity. After we got up and running, one phone was deactivated after 24hrs. Xfinity said it was a system action and they had no idea why. Reactivated. Also, one phone was set up to bill $767 a month for lease instead of $33 a month with a total of $767. Took over 2 hrs. to get corrected.

I do expect to experience lower costs at Xfinity and so far no technical issues but the business administration is very poor.

I am changing from ATT to Xfinity mobile. The thing that put me over the top was ATT’s international plan at $10 per day! I’m a US customer and travel internationally a few times a year. Xfinity mobile rates differ by country, but for example Italy is 10 cents per minute for talk, 10 cents per text, and 10 cents per MB of data. When I travel, I turn off data and never talk, so it’s just 10 cents per text instead of $10 per day even for just one text with ATT. However, I’m confused by GSM (Europe and ATT) vs. CDMA (Verizon) but Xfinity assures me not to worry with my iphone 6s and traveling in Europe. I hope they’re right.

Normal day to day in USA by the gig service is great.

Better yet is that while traveling overseas including transatlantic crossings you can use your phone for very reasonable rates depending on where you are. Most of crossing and UK was .15 / min calls and .10 each texts.

It needs to be noted that when you bring your old phone to Xfinity, you permanently lose any Caller ID that was associated with your phone. That has the affect that your calls will be blocked or unanswered as the call recipients only see “Wireless Caller” and therefore can’t tell if the call is legit. Xfinity does not seem to have any interest in resolving this HUGE problem.

Agreed. I purchased two phones from XM, had my old numbers ported from Tmobile, and now people I call only see “wireless caller” as the callerID. Many individuals don’t answer calls from unknown callers which is a problem. I’ve chatted/talked to two XM reps about this and they indicate this can’t be fixed. Other than that, I’ve been very satisfied with both the performance and price of XM.

HI David the same thing happened to me. I left T-Mobile and I get the wireless number also. People see the wireless and think it is a scam call.

I have not seen this topic addressed, but can you connect your phone to the Xfinity internet at home? Seems you can, but want to be sure. We are over 65 and trying to get out from AT&T and their high rates. Only service we have every had (SW Bell before they acquired). Looks like we will have to buy 2 new phones, but there is the rebate card at the moment and bill would be half that of AT&T. Thanks for help!

Thanks Michael for such wonderful insights! I still have question about few things. Can you and others please provide more information and experiences with these. 1) WiFi calling is not listed on Xfinity’s website under “cellular and wireless” on comparison table for IPhones 8+ vs IPhone XR (or even for iPhone Pro Max for that matter) but WiFi calling appears on Apple.com website.

2) I frequently travel to Singapore, Dubai, Hong Kong and Mumbai, so how great or unlocked is the dual sim feature on Xfinity’s iPhone XR and up models. Does xfinity utilize the eSim and leave/spare the nano sim slot for customers will full usage. In my experience or knowledge the nano sim slot IF left unlocked or completely available at customer’s disposal to flexibly use for other carriers within USA or overseas would make most sense and the phone device purchase worthwhile. Only then will the customer be able to use the dual SIM technology to full potential and features.

3) Does Xfinity allow getting 2 lines in “By the gig” plan on the same iPhone devices having dual SIM capability and feature? I hope these Questions are not too mind boggling but genuinely these are what I have in mind and wish could know some definite replies and responses please. Thank you.

1) WiFi calling depends on your device. According to this FAQ page, all iPhones available on Xfinity’s network have it. https://www.xfinity.com/hub/mobile/wifi-calling-101#targetText=Carrier%20WiFi%20calling%20is%20enabled,Xfinity's%20network%20have%20this%20feature .

2) When I had Xfinity Mobile, I had one SIM card. I would assume they’d keep the second slot empty, but you should call customer service and check. The online chat feature may also be helpful.

3) I am pretty sure you can only choose one plan per phone number, not two. Again, I would double check with them.

I just went through a week of hell after getting an iPhone 12 Pro from them, having been an Xfinity cable TV customer for many years. After several hours spent with tech support in their store, by phone and online, I can say that Xfinity does NOT support wifi calling in my area. One of their in store agents told me to go to Best Buy or an Apple Store hours away since Xfinity is not an authorized iPhone outlet. After wasting days of my time I gave up and got the same phone from another carrier at a lower price with a better plan. The default settings on the other carrier’s phones had wifi calling enabled by default and it works fine, as do other phones in my home.

I’ve been on Xfinity mobile for about two months and really like the service and especially the money saved. I highly recommend it. However if you need customer service call them or try the online chat. I’ve sent them texts and tried Facebook messenger and never received a reply with either.

I have Spectrum with a LG Stylo 4 phone. After relocating to a different state, I have to use Xfinity for Internet and Voice (never TV). I hope to consolidate my bills to one but Xfinity refuses to BYOD even they sell the exact phone and both carriers use Verizon. Predatory marketing!

Can you sell the phone online to get some of your investment back? Sites like Gazelle.com make this very easy.

The offloading of data to Xfinity’s wi-fi hotspots really isn’t a big deal. XM customers generally all have Xfinity for internet and can therefore connect to the same hotspots without XM. XM customers are surely de-prioritized for Verizon’s own customers, so if you’re coming from Verizon (which I am), your speeds will certainly be slower, especially during congestion. The real value is the lower bill. You trade slower data speeds for a lower bill, but the slower speed has been tested to be more than good enough for most of the typical stuff that people care about doing when out and about and off wi-fi.

Hey Michael, Great site. Here’s an interesting development for you: Turns out that Xfinity does not allow existing customers to BYOD. I have been a customer for the past three years but when I tried switching phones to a new iPhone (which their website said the IMEI was compatible) they admitted to me that they only allow outside phones to be brought to new lines. So as an existing customer, I have no choice but to purchase a new phone from them at an inflated price (since all of their sales only apply to new lines as well). They definitely have a steal of a deal with the by the gig prices but I am not pleased with the hassle getting another phone has been. Best.

Thanks for the comment. I switched to Visible because I moved out of an area where Comcast Xfinity Internet service is offered. Because of that, a $20 line access fee was added to my Xfinity Mobile bill. If you stay a Comcast Internet customer, you will not pay the $20 fee. It’s only for those who keep Xfinity Mobile but have no internet plan.

Xfinity will be discontinuing their 100 mb plan in February as all customers will be moved over to the 2nd gen plans.

I have been with xfinity mobile for over a year. one caveat i found is that i can not pass my older iphones down to my children. when i was with verizon, we could transfer phones around as needed. i could buy an unlocked phone and add it to my line. with xfinity, you either buy one of their phones or drop/transfer the line out of xfinity for 30 days and then come back in as a new line. I am in the process of moving my daughter’s line/number to Ting for 30 days and then transfer her back to xfinity on a newer iphone

I found your review to be very well done and in line with my experience thus far with XM. I switched to XM in April of 2019 and brought an iPhone 6 plus with me, good phone and supported by XM. I have loved the plan thus far. I have only paid for a full gig of data three times thus far! The other months I stayed below the 100mg that I get for free. I am very disappointed to hear that this perk is going away this month! That sort of sucks for me. But still, I’m getting cell phone service for less than $15 a month and no other plan beats that. I have had zero issues with dropped calls and no bars, except when driving through the UP of Michigan a couple of times. Much better coverage than T-Mobile or Metro PCS. I always seem to be near a hotspot for data except sometimes when driving in the country. But I broke the iphone screen and had to go with a Galaxy s8 for replacement. The new phone is either not working correctly or there is an issue with XM. I can’t be heard on calls most of the time. I can hear the person calling me, but they can’t hear me. I reset the WiFi settings and then it will work for a couple of calls, and then back to not working. XM doesn’t have a clue for the cause. Samsung has just given me reset instructions. I’m returning the phone. The good news is I still have the iphone and can just pop the SIM card in again.

I currently use XM for my son and I. We brought phones over from Verizon last year. It is so much cheaper and we have had no issues with service. I am considering buying a new phone and I am wondering if the Iphone deals on the XM site are for new customers only or can I take advantage of the deals?

Taxes and fees vary depending on where you live. When my bill was $12, I would pay $3 in taxes and fees for a total of $15. That was in Atlanta, Georgia.

This service has confused me from the start. I don’t keep up with cell trends. I switched my 2-person family to Consumer Cellular a couple of years ago, from Verizon, to save $$, but have regretted that a bit since because our home reception is not as good on CC’s AT&T network. But VZW is *so* expensive. I absolutely HATE Comcast, having been stuck in their tv/internet monopoly for decades. They just keep raising their rates. But this sounds intriguing.

If my husband and I, with CC, use less than 3GB a month, now (shared), whether home on wifi or driving — we’ll still be at or below that data threshhold if we switch to XM, right? Will the cell signal when we’re at home be coming from Verizon? Our calls-over-wifi doesn’t seem to work very well, right now, so I’m hoping we can use the VZW signal for calls.

XM confuses me because they don’t really talk about the calling services – just about the data part of your plan. Data is important to me, but cell reception is at least as important. Thanks

You will use Verizon’s network for cellular voice and data. The Wi-Fi hotspots are optional when you’re on the go, or you can always connect to your Wi-Fi at home. That’s for data, not voice. I do NOT recommend Xfinity Mobile if you *hate* Comcast, since it’s owned by Comcast. You could look at Visible, which is owned by Verizon and uses its towers. You can also get Verizon’s towers with Straight Talk, which is a Tracfone company. By the way, Verizon just announced it plans to buy Tracfone.

Just made the switch from sprint too now xfinity and I must say the response time and coverage is phenomenal. I’ve been with the same carrier for tons of years and there service can’t even provide service to cover mountain and ravine areas for us hunters Xfinity provided all online and offline operations it was fantastic and yes I am also a Comcast customer and never a problem there either kudos for your great service and customer service. And one other thing I’m running on a Samsung 8 which is running fantastic but next month I will be switching over to the note 20 just for the 5G capability.

I don’t know where you all are located but in Washington, DC, Xfinity Mobile is awful. I had 5 dropped calls in the 4 days I had their service. So happy to be back with AT&T. Will never use Xfinity mobile again.

Generally, I recommend that if people are happy with one network, they stick with that *network*. So, Verizon powers Xfinity Mobile — not AT&T. If you want a cheaper provider, I would suggest one that uses AT&T’s towers — not Verizon’s towers. And always check the coverage maps!

This service is garbage. I had 5dropped calls in the 4 days I had this service. So happy to be back with my old provider.

I currently have Xfinity Mobile. In my discussions with them, I was told being an Xfinity/Comcast subscriber was no longer a requirement.

It says so right on their home page. “Xfinity Mobile is available to our Xfinity Internet customers. If you don’t have Xfinity Internet yet, you can sign up now and be on your way to start using our mobile services.” If you cancel the internet service and you already have cell phone service, you can keep Xfinity Mobile. But there’s a surcharge.

I’m a Comcast/Xfinity customer for both cable & internet for over 2 years and I have AT&T for cellular. So… I thought why not switch?? From everything I’ve read I should save money. Everything in one place. I paid off AT&T devices totaling $980. So I own my phones. I contacted Xfinity to change and found out NOT a guarantee even with two year GREAT customer history that I would be approved – confused me cause I OWN MY DEVICES. They wanted to do a HARD credit pulll!?!?! WTAF. AT&T has an ongoing loyal customer. Xfinity maybe needs to look at what they already know for payment histories.

Yes that seems very odd. Xfinity Mobile does bill separately from cable & internet. I’m assuming that’s why.

Hi, I recently switched from TMo to Xfinity mobile due to cost difference. I bought 2 phones thru Xfinity on a deal where they’re free after 24 months of service. Sweet! My problem is trying to send MMS to an Iphone in Sweden I get “invalid destination address” but I send MMS to the person on the same sofa with a Samsung, it goes thru….. Here in Seattle, my sister has an Iphone yet I receive NONE of her texts. My Swedish relations say they have texted me as well yet I receive nothing from the Iphone holders. Xfinity seems clueless about this. The only way to text with the Iphone peeps is thru Facebook Messenger but not everyone uses FB. I realize your site is about saving money but this is something to consider if switching to Xfinity/Verizon. Any ideas from other folks? I have done resets and factory resets.

I’m not sure this is an Xfinity Mobile problem. What type of phone do you have? Have you contacted the manufacturer of the phone or Googled to see if other people who have your phone are experiencing this issue?

I have the Motorola Moto E that Xfinity provided. After spending over 5 hours with “customer service” over the phone along with 3 hours at an Xfinity store, they couldn’t figure it out. They sent me new phones. Same issue. I even purchased unlocked phones to try…..same issue. It’s definately a Verizon issue since Xfinity uses Verizon. Never had these issues with ANY other MVNOs that use TMo or ATT. Like you, I’ve tried and compared a few Cheap plans. I’ve researched what plans roam, international roam, cost per gig, etc. Xfinity’s price is good but their service sucks. Customer service is not US based. Consumer Cellular is a bit pricier but the best customer service AND US based.

Sorry about your experience. As you know, Consumer Cellular is not Verizon’s network. By the way, what was the issue? I recently used a Moto phone to test out a Verizon MVNO (Red Pocket) and I had issues setting it up. Basically, I put the SIM card in and got an auto recording. It wouldn’t activate. The solution was to put the SIM card into a *different* phone, make a phone call and then put it back into the Moto phone. Red Pocket told me it was a known issue with their Verizon SIM cards.

The issue is sending and receiving texts. When I send an MMS to my cousin’s Iphone I get an “invalid destination address”. I send same MMS to her daughter with a Samsung in the same room it goes through. I’ve been to the Xfinity store and their own people couldn’t figure it out. I asked them to check ALL my settings in case I did something silly. The phone itself is fine. I left work early to stop at Verizon store and of course they’re closed.

So glad i found something helpful. I am with Sprint and they just raised my monthly bill another $20 making it almost impossible to pay with my other bills added in ($315 a month for 2 phones 😳) Definitely will be looking into making the switch now. How os xfinity mobile going for you to this day?

I just got Comcast, Xfinity cell phone service, This required buying new phones at a great cost for service with a reasonable monthly charge. My issue is most but not all of our calls won’t go through. So my wife goes into Comcast to hear well do you have a good single? well it happens on WIFI, and on not on WIFI, it happens standing here in your lobby. Oh look we reset your phone and the next call went through. What a load of crap, you have had a issue for a while and continue to sell a crappy service. So as of today if you want a cell service that rarely will let your call go through then Xfinity is your provider. I live in Downtown Concord NH. If I can’t get a good connection with a new 5G phone, you aren’t going to either. Just to clarify this happens to all 3 different phones 1, Note 8, 2, Galaxy A71, 3, iPhone 12 Max and except for the cost our last service was Verizon and we never had an issue, Yes never once did we get a busy signal or the wireless customer you are calling is unavailable. Some calls were to a cell phone others to a home phone. Any idea’s ? I am still waiting for a callback on this issue.

I think that’s possible with any service, but it wasn’t a problem for me. There are also scam blocking tools. I imagine it’s more of an issue if you are getting a new number, not transferring an existing one.

I was planning on going to Comcast and getting new phones/plan since we already have cc internet but these comments/problems have really made me reconsider. It’s not worth all the hassle. Thank you for some great information!!

Thanks for reading! There are problems with any service. I have tested 15 of them and get similar comments on other articles. Xfinity Mobile actually ranks pretty high for customer service by JD Power. If you sign up at the store, you could mitigate some of the problems people have during the switching process by dealing directly with a sales representative. Buying a new device from Xfinity also eliminates a potential problem with phone compatibility — because you’ll know for sure it works on their network if you buy the phone from them.

On the whole we are satisfied with the service quality with the switch to Xfinity Mobile from Verizion here in SW Virginia. The only complaint it the data usage. For the past 5 years with Verizion I never once exceed even 1 gig of data per line. I listen to NPR while I walk the dog, otherwise I am almost never away from wifi. Somehow now I am using 5 to 10 gigs a month with 2 lines of service. Their billing department lied to me and told there would be no overage charged until 2022. Once I got my huge bills, I was told they had not told me there would be no overages. After a quick 2 hours of climbing the supervisor chain they finally agreed to credit me the change. It took 2 months of the this showing up, but not actually being credited for me to finally re-coup the false charge. They have the worst customer service going… but that ought to be no surprise to anyone who already uses them for their internet. But why has my data usage gone through the ceiling? I did upgrade from an older iPhone SE to the newer 12 mini, that means 5G. So i changed to LTE only and minimal data usage setting… still huge data usage. There is no way see how much data you actually use. So… I guess I just have to take comcast’s word for it that my morning dog walk NPR listen uses 4 gigs of data a month. I read the news now.

First, be sure which apps are using data. Check this on your iPhone by going to Settings > Cellular > scroll down to the CELLULAR DATA area and turn off all apps you don’t want to use data. In your case only the app you listen to NPR on should probably be turned on. You’ll notice the data usage by each app is shown – that’s data used since the last time usage was reset by tapping “Reset Statistics” if you scroll to the bottom of the list of apps.

Second, I use the “DataMan – Data Usage Widget” ($0.99 in the Apple App Store) to quickly check up on data usage throughout the month.

Hi – Great review! My key questions are: 1. Re everyone complaining that their current phone number shows up as “unknown caller” when they call with their new XM account – certainly their contacts can add their name to their own contacts again and know it’s them every time – once that very first call is made?

2. Do xfinity sell iPhones in their retail stores that are un-locked and can be used with any other mobile carriers like t-mobile or at&t – or are they locked to XM only?

If so can they be un-locked after a certain amount of months with XM?

I have no explanation for #1. I’ve not seen this complaint very often.

If you buy a smartphone from Xfinity at FULL price, the company’s policy is to Allow Unlocking AFTER 60 DAYS from date of purchase! You’ll need to contact customer service and have them send some signal to your smartphone to unlock it!

If you want a Truly UnLocked smartphone, esp. an iPhone, then buy it Directly from the manufacturer like Apple, which are Unlocked, by default, But you lose out any any credits that cellphone companies offer to customers.

Note to Watch your data usage. Make sure that you’re iPhone’s 5G setting is turned OFF unless you have a high or unlimited data plan as it does use up data Very quickly.

Xfinity Mobile and Samaung are the WORST and will leave you stranded with NO RESPECT for you as a paying customer!!! I work for Comcast and today I am EXTREMELY EMBARRASED to admit that!!! Woke up this past Saturday to a brand new 4 month old $1300 Galaxy S21 Ultra PAPERWEIGHT that neither Xfinity or Samsung would do anything about!!! Samsung sent it an update that it didnt take well. The Xfinity Mobile Protection plan protects no one except Comcast from doing anything to help you!! After 20 hrs of being on the Xfinity HAMSTER WHEEL, i was told to mail it in and wait 7-10 days to get it back and meanwhile just crawl into a hole because you lost everything on your phone and in your life, through no fault of my own, all i did was go to sleep!!! For a 4 month old phone, that Samsung messed up, I feel that I should havee been sent a new one within 2 days!! And if Samsung is not going to back their product, than XFINITY should!! Thats who i bought it from!! I am thoroughly disgusted with the treatment I recieved!!

I have had Xfinity Mobile for several years. I live in an area with weak cell service at my house which I think may be equally close to two different towers.

Calling in and out is problematic. For a while if I had my phone on airport mode I could reliably use my phone. It seems to change but has never been right. I had AT&T before and had no problems. Phone calls on cell calls in the house seem to be timed — 20 minutes or so the call can simply drop.

If you want to put up with the weirdness and friends etc forgive the weirdness you can save a lot of money. If you live in an area with good cell coverage I do not believe you will see a difference between this and the others. Xfinity mobile uses others for the cell service and Xfinity mobil users are second class citizens in using.

If I use 70+ GB of data a month to stream classes for my business, is XM something I could use or should I just stay with Verizon?? I’m worried that I won’t be able to livestream my classes but sure would love to save $$.

Long-time Verizon customer (great coverage and no complaints) and fairly long-time Xfinity Comcast customer (no complaints except rising costs), and have been on the fence for a long time. Own an older LG phone that allows battery replacement. The new ones do not; thus, I wanted to keep this one as long as possible. However, since they do not allow BYOD for LG phones I am willing to get one of their “free” phones ($299 credit is a current deal) with my current phone # transferred in order to eliminate my monthly Verizon bill (over $100/month). Just so I’m clear on the cost, per your review for the unlimited plan it would be $40 a month AND $15 a month and taxes/fees/etc.?

If you are thinking about switching from Verizon to Xfinity stop immediately. I was a 20-year+ Verizon customer. The hold times for Verizon customer service got quite long, but they always were helpful and resolved the issue. Thought I would try something different and save a little bit of money each month. I should have stopped after we figured out that the representative at the Xfinity store lied to us about the benefits of switching. They gave use a credit for the mistake which extremely painful to access each month. The answer from customer service with Xfinity is allows “no”. They are difficult to get a hold of and it is difficult for them to understand your problem. With Xfinity mobile you are literally on you own. Switching to Xfinity Mobile was a terrible decision and I cannot wait to get back to Verizon.

I will be activating a phone with Xfinity Mobile in a few days. What I find lacking is a user manual as to the available features, such as the star (*) codes – ie. *82, *72, *67,…… When calling customer support, I might as well be speaking Martian, they have no idea. Do all the same codes that worked with Verizon work with Xfinity Mobile…? They have user manuals for internet, TV, Voice, nothing for Mobile. They have a table of the star codes that can be used with voice, but nothing for Mobile. Come on Xfinity, how long have you been offering Mobile, but still not support or documentation…?

So as of this date…has XM fixed the issue with caller ID? Or does it still pop-up as “wireless caller?” And if so, does XM allow you to rebuild your phone book on their servers? Or will it always be just “wireless caller?”

Inexpensive, but you get what you pay for. Voicemail notification doesn’t work, voicemail app works on one phone, but not on another identical phone. Texts are intermittently delayed indefinitely until the phone is rebooted.

Call Customer Support, and they will give you the full run around; then hang up because they have no skills to actually help.

Xfinity mobile changed policy and now charging $10/line fee for new line activation since Aug. 2022. No such explanation on Xfinity Web site but in consent. – “It’s hidden fee” Xfinity may update on their website later. Hope it will not take too long time.

I was sold on the lower price and access to Verizon network, so decided to switch from ATT when I signed on for Xfinity internet. It’s been 3 days now and it’s been nothing but a headache just trying to get simple phone service on my Iphone. After an initially successful connection which sadly lasted about an hour, my phone inexplicably lost cellular service. I have spent countless hours since then trying to get through to customer service. After hours of waiting for call backs (many of which never happen), the calls mysteriously get dropped (from our other cellphone, which managed to keep intermittent cellular connection). It was obvious that NO ONE had any idea what they were doing, regardless of how many levels of escalation.

Eventually gave up, went to an ATT store and thankfully they help us fix the whole mess.

Does Visual Voicemail, WIFI Calling and 5G work on Android phones?

Worst phone service experience ever. Signed up at the xfinity store for both internet & mobile. Mobile never worked right from day one. Mobile account was screwed up since day one. I could sign in but anywhere I clicked (something went wrong, try again later. 2 months in could NEVER view bill or charges since first bill. I went to the xfinity store twice regarding this matter and everyone just shrugged there shoulder and told me that its a separate sub diversion and to call the number.. They would not take my payment at the store, They would not even give me an address to mail a check!!!!! I called xfinity mobile customer service and could never connect to a live person! no matter what option I pressed I kept getting text message support as only option (which was a bot by the way). Terrible service, terrible support, I even had to get upset at the store as they did not want to cancel the service.. NEVER AGAIN….It may be cheaper but not worth the headaches! RUN away as fast as you can!!!!!!!!

XM is amazing, no matter what your data needs are, if its buy the gig, pay for buy the gig, you can share 1 gig between 15 people, however whatever plan you have 1gig 3gig 10gig if you go over you pay 15$ per gig forever. so make sure the first month or so until you learn how much data you typically use keep an eye on how much you are using. but a buddy of mine who has a landscaping company does a 10 gig 60$ plan for all 12 of his workers phones, if they use more data they pay for it because it shows per line what data is used. pus you can mix and match if one person needs unlimeted and one needs just a gig, that is possible too.

Xfinity Mobile has priority data, so you should get similar speeds as Verizon postpaid customers. Prepaid carriers are the ones who would have slower speeds during network congestion.

voicemail transcription does not work on xfinity mobile. they have tried over several days and many hours on the phone and cannot get it to work. i also went into the xfinity store and they cannot get it to work.

I was also lured by the cheap phone plan options, however, the tradeoff is the horrible response time in getting any issues resolved using their customer service process. My issue is that the phone I initially ordered was not able to deliver to me as I was not home each time Fedex attempted, so they shipped it back. However Xfinity told me I had to order a new phone, and not to worry about the other one. Well, I ended up getting charged for a second line and somehow someone else ended up activating it. It took me forever to get this resolved. I had to call multiple times and wait on hold for hours while transferring to multiple individuals to get my issue resolved as every time I called, either they did not completely close it out or it was out of their jurisdiction. The wait time would be suffice if the customer service rep would take care of it, each time. OH, and how many times did my call drop and I then had to start over? It was such a nightmare to get this resolved.

I hear you. But I will say that I have a TON of trouble with FedEx. Even when I have been home for deliveries, they will claim they attempted to deliver them. That’s no excuse for everything that happened after the phone delivery though. Sorry you went through that.

Thank you for this great review. My Xfinity promotion for internet and cable is expiring, and the Xfinity phone rep suggested that one way to save $20 a month was to switch to Xfinity Mobile. After reading your blog, I went to the Xfinity store to get a price on switching my 2 iPhone 12’s (which were compatible), and 2 iPads to Xfinity from Verizon. I’m glad I went to the store, because I could not find any information about moving iPads to Xfinity Mobile on the Xfinity Mobile site. Buyer beware: if you have existing (even paid off) iPads, they cannot be added to an Xfinity Mobile account. Their suggestion: Just switch the two phones, and use my iPads only on WiFi, or buy NEW iPads from THEM with cellular, and then THEY could be added. That was a deal breaker. Our iPads are fairly new, and I bought cellular for the iPads BECAUSE we can’t always be on WiFi. Looks like we are stuck with Verizon until this changes. Visible does not allow iPads to be added, either. I just wanted to caution others with iPads who might be considering a switch to Xfinity that it only works if you’re willing to replace them with new ones sold by Xfinity.

I love the cost of XM, still (I’ve been with them maybe a couple of years, now?), but I’m going to have to STOP recommending them to anyone. If you have a technical issue of ANY kind, they are useless. The reps lie, repeatedly, while clearly reading from a script – they don’t seem to have any actual technical knowledge at all.

After being assured that I could swap phone numbers between my 2 phones simply by swapping sims, that blossomed into MANY MANY phone calls & chats and forum posts, over 3 weeks or so, still leaving me unable to receive any texts on one of my phones, and unable to use visual voicemail on both phones. The last thing I was told is that my phones (iPhone SE original and Moto e5 from XM) are incompatible with their 5G network. Though they worked fine before I swapped the sims.

Sorry, XM, but you’ve lost the recommendations of this customer.

worst service and customer service and a cheating co

I have service with Xfinity (for years) and bought a new phone (paid it in full) and then wanted to unlock it for international travel. The salesperson at the Xfinity store said it would be unlocked since I paid it in full. That is not the case. Xfinity is sticking to the 60 day policy even though I am a long time customer and paid the phone in full…..very frustrating and will end up costing me $450 dollars while traveling instead of $70 for 2 sim cards.

CONS: Xfinity Mobile is terrible. Can not text outside of iMessage, or on group texts with android folks. It’s insanity and should be disclosed. I’ve spent 2 years dealing with them with no luck. Phone is almost paid off – can’t wait to bail !!!

It’s great until you get rid of Xfinity cable, then it is $80.00. Month. When you try and go to another carrier it takes forever for them to unlock your phone. I’ve been trying for a week and getting nothing but a runaround.

Xfinity Mobile Review: From a Customer (Updated for 2024)

This Xfinity Mobile review has been updated for 2024. Long-time readers may be quite surprised to find this Xfinity Mobile Review on this site. But, I’ve tested their service and wanted to do a deep dive to share with readers, from the perspective of an actual real Xfinity Mobile user. We’ll dig in to Xfinity Mobile’s network, plans, phone selection, pros, cons, promotions, and much more in this review.

Here are a few things to note about this review:

  • I’ve previously and extensively reviewed the cheapest data plans , cheapest prepaid plans , and cheapest mobile WiFi hotspot plans on the market, and I’ve come to the conclusion that, at this moment, Xfinity Mobile is one of best value mobile plans on the market – and can potentially save readers money.
  • If you are also an Xfinity Internet and/or Cable TV customer, you can save even more money by bundling services (more on that below).
  • Despite my prior grievances with Xfinity Mobile’s parent company, Comcast, I have been an actual Xfinity Mobile user – and have used Xfinity Mobile extensively.

So let’s jump right in. Here’s what you’ll find in this Xfinity Mobile review:

What is Xfinity Mobile?

Xfinity Mobile is a relatively newer mobile cellular service from ISP/Cable TV conglomerate, Comcast Xfinity. The service somewhat quietly launched to customers in May of 2017, and went live in all Xfinity residential markets in August of that year.

In addition to 5G and nation-wide 4G LTE coverage (on Verizon’s network), Xfinity Mobile also boasts 20 million+ WiFi hotspots, and flexible low-cost plans.

Can I Get Xfinity Mobile? Xfinity Mobile Availability Map

In order to become an Xfinity Mobile customer, you must first be a residential Xfinity Internet service customer, residing within Xfinity’s market map. If you’re unsure about Xfinity availability, you can check if Xfinity internet service is available in your area . If it is, and you’re an Internet service customer, you are eligible to get Xfinity Mobile.

What Network Does Xfinity Mobile Use?

Xfinity Mobile is a “mobile virtual network operator”, or MVNO . As an MVNO, Xfinity Mobile doesn’t own its own wireless spectrum, it buys wholesale priced access from one of the 3 big wireless spectrum owners in the United States. Specifically, Xfinity Mobile runs on Verizon’s Network. Making a call? You’re calling on Verizon’s network. Texting? Verizon’s network. Using mobile data? Verizon’s network. With Xfinity Mobile, you are getting all of the touted benefits of Verizon’s network (at a fraction of Verizon’s prices).

Xfinity Mobile Coverage Map

Xfinity Mobile, by virtue of running on Verizon’s Network, has access to 5G in available locations and the largest 4G LTE network in the US. Verizon touts that it covers 327 million people (5G now covers over 230 million people), 99% of the country’s population, and more square miles than any other network. Xfinity WiFi Hotspot Map

In addition to offering up Verizon’s Network for prices that are much cheaper than Verizon (more on that in a bit), one unique Xfinity Mobile feature that distinguishes it from its competition is that it offers users 20+ million WiFi hotspots to tap into for free. Xfinity makes this possible through using modems it leases to customers as WiFi hotspots . Clever.

Tapping into hotspots while out to a coffee shop, restaurant, bar, hotel, etc. can allow you to keep your mobile data usage to a minimum (if you’re able to find a hotspot to connect to). Here is an Xfinity WiFi hotspot map or you can use the Xfinity WiFi hotspot app ( iPhone , Android ), which can be used offline.

Xfinity Mobile Plans & Prices

Xfinity Mobile plan costs are low and flexible. Certainly lower than any of the big 3 carriers, but lower than even most of the cheapest of bare-bones MVNOs (who often have close to zero customer service and no WiFi hotspots).

For starters, all customers get:

  • Unlimited nationwide talk and text, at no added charge
  • 5G speeds (where available on Verizon’s network) and 4G LTE data elsewhere
  • Free access to millions of WiFi hotspots

Additionally, Xfinity Mobile offers international roaming coverage (detailed below).

Beyond talk, text, & WiFi – if needed, you have a choice of data plan options :

Xfinity “By the Gig” Data Plans

Features 3 data options & data can be shared on up to 10 lines, and high resolution video streaming:

  • 1GB: $15/month
  • 3GB: $30/month
  • 10GB: $60/month

Xfinity “Unlimited Intro” Data Plan

Features 20GB of high speed data per line, unlimited mobile hotspot data at 600kbps, standard 480p LTE video streaming:

  • 1 line: $45/month
  • 2-4 lines: $30/month per line
  • 5-10 lines: +$20/month per line

Speeds are reduced after 20GB of data use.

Xfinity “Unlimited Plus” Data Plan

Features 30GB of high speed data per line, 5GB of mobile hotspot data at 5G/4G high speeds, high resolution 720p LTE video streaming:

  • 1 line: $55/month
  • 2-4 lines: $40/month per line
  • 5-10 lines: +$30/month per line

Speeds are reduced after 30GB of data use.

Xfinity “Unlimited Premium” Data Plan

Features 50GB of high speed data per line, 15GB of mobile hotspot data at high priority speeds, high resolution 720p LTE video streaming:

  • 1 line: $65/month
  • 2-4 lines: $50/month per line
  • 5-10 lines: +$40/month per line

Speeds are reduced after 50GB of data use.

On the unlimited plans, after the high speed monthly data use allotment is used, speeds are reduced, determined and applied on a per line basis. There is no “rollover” data.

You can switch from “by the gig” to an “unlimited” plan within the same month or from “unlimited” to “by the gig” at the start of the next billing cycle. You can find lower price per GB data plans out there, but you typically have to pay for talk and text with those plans, which would wipe out the benefit.

How Does Xfinity Mobile’s Prices Compare to Verizon?

Compared to Xfinity Mobile, Verizon offers the following prices for the same network:

Verizon Monthly Prepaid:

  • 15 GB: $45/month to start
  • “Unlimited” data (with 5GB mobile hotspot): $60/month to start
  • “Unlimited Plus” data (with 25GB mobile hotspot): $70/month

Bundling Xfinity Mobile with Other Xfinity Services for Better Prices

Xfinity also frequently has deals that allow you to bundle Xfinity Mobile with Xfinity TV and Internet, lowering the combined total prices of those services. If you live with an Xfinity Internet/TV supported area , bundling Xfinity Mobile with those services will almost always offer you the lowest total versus buying from separate providers. You can find current  Xfinity bundle offers here if you’re interested in bundling services. Adding Xfinity Mobile to a bundle usually results in the best deals, often with some nice incentives.

Does Xfinity Mobile Have International Roaming?

Xfinity Mobile has international rate plan options for those traveling abroad.

You can add a “Global Travel Pass” to any line and pay a flat rate for calls, texts, and data for $10/day per line in 170+ covered countries, or $5/day per line in Mexico and Canada only. Global Travel Pass includes 512 MB of LTE data per pass per day, then data is available at 2G speeds. Data used while abroad will count toward your By the Gig or Unlimited data option. “Pay as you go” is also available.

Data used counts towards both By the Gig or Unlimited data options.

Does Xfinity Mobile Have Contracts or Penalties?

No. There are no contracts with Xfinity Mobile. You can leave at any time, if you’re not happy, without penalty or early termination fee. However, you may have to pay off the remaining balance on your phone and plans (which seems fair).

Can you Use Xfinity Mobile as a Personal Hotspot?

Yes – you can use Xfinity Mobile data to create a personal WiFi hotspot. According to Xfinity Mobile:

Your Xfinity Mobile phone is more than just a phone. It’s also a personal hotspot, which can be super convenient when you need to connect a computer to the internet and you don’t have WiFi. Your phone enables you to get online via WiFi, Bluetooth, or USB cable — on your laptop, tablet, or any other device — by using your cellular data to create an internet connection. How your data option affects personal hotspots If you have the  Unlimited Intro  data option, speeds on any connected device will not exceed 600 Kbps. With the  Unlimited Plus  data option: The first 5GB of personal hotspot usage will be at the maximum speed available (based on your device’s capabilities and network capacity). After 5GB of hotspot use, your hotspot speeds will be 600 Kbps for the rest of your billing cycle. With the  Unlimited Premium  data option, the first 15GB of personal hotspot usage will be at the maximum speed available. This is based on your device’s capabilities and network capacity. With  By the Gig  data, personal hotspot speeds aren’t automatically limited.

If you Cancel Xfinity Internet Service, Can you Keep Using Xfinity Mobile?

Yes, you can keep using Xfinity Mobile if you cancel Xfinity Internet. A $25 per line monthly charge applies if at least one of the following post-pay subscriptions are not maintained on the account: Xfinity TV, Internet, or Voice service.

Xfinity Mobile Phone Selection

Xfinity Mobile has a solid offering of mobile devices (mostly on the higher end and a few budget offerings), including both both iOS and Android OS devices. You can either buy the phone outright or spread out the cost of the phone over 24 months (at 0% APR).

Currently, Xfinity Mobile offers devices from the following manufacturers:

  • Apple: iPhone
  • Google: Nexus
  • Motorola: Moto G, Razr
  • Samsung: Galaxy

Xfinity Mobile BYOD (Bring Your Own Device)

You can bring your own device (BYOD) when you switch to Xfinity Mobile (iPhone 6 and later for iPhones, Google Pixel, and Samsung Galaxy S8 or later for Android). You can check Xfinity Mobile device compatibility here .

If you bring your own device, there are no added fees, and you can get a free SIM card. And yes, you can still access the WiFi hotspots. Xfinity even offers promotions for BYOD occasionally.

Xfinity Mobile Pros:

There are a number of Xfinity Mobile pros:

  • Pricing: the pricing is fair, honest, and cheap.
  • Flexibility: there is flexibility to switch plans.
  • Network Reliability/Speed: Verizon’s network paired with millions of WiFi hotspots is as good as it gets.
  • Risk-Free: 14-day money-back guarantee and no contracts.
  • Phone Selection: a good selection of phone choices from Apple, Google, Motorola, and Samsung. You can get 0% APR financing on phones if you can’t afford to buy outright (at the same total price). Plus, you can BYOD without added fees.
  • Strong Reviews from Customers: Xfinity Mobile was recently rated #1 value/most recommended compared to all full-service MVNOs in the 2022 American Customer Satisfaction Index survey of customers rating their own wireless service provider’s performance.

Xfinity Mobile Cons:

I alluded to this earlier, but any Xfinity Mobile review on my behalf would not be complete without addressing the elephant in the room: my previous beefs with Xfinity TV and Internet pricing. I’ve written many articles over the years on topics such as how to get rid of your Xfinity modem rental fee , how to replace an Xfinity modem with your own , how to negotiate with Xfinity , how to cut your Xfinity bill , and so on, to help readers save money.

I do see the broader company making serious efforts to improve its customer service and experience with Xfinity Mobile and elsewhere. For example:

  • With Cable/Internet pricing, they have started offering existing customers extended contracts at prices previously only accessible to new customers (having to quibble over pricing and continual increases has long been a complaint of mine and others).
  • Their customer service reps do seem much more accommodating in recent years, which is a reflection of company policy.
  • Their revamped Xfinity stores are much closer to an Apple store than the DMV these days (I recently visited one and was shocked).

I looked long and hard for gotchas with Xfinity Mobile. I wouldn’t say these are “gotchas”, but are common cons for “unlimited” plans across the industry these days:

  • after monthly data use, speeds are reduced, determined and applied on a per line basis
  • Video streams up to 480p, standard-definition quality (20GB plan) (though HD streaming is available on Xfinity Wifi).
  • On any connected device, mobile hotspot speeds will not exceed 600 kbps (Unlimited Intro plan).
  • When they added 5G service, they increased their lowest price from $12 to $15, but this was likely the result of a new contract with Verizon.

Xfinity Mobile Promos and Discounts

Xfinity Mobile frequently runs promos and discounts. You can find a list of Xfinity Mobile promotions and discounts here .

They have been offering rotation promotions such as the following:

  • Up to $400 off some of the new iPhones, Google Pixel, and Samsung Galaxy phones
  • Up to $700 off with trade-in
  • $100 if you bring your own device

Additionally, I’d recommend checking for Xfinity bundle offers here for bundled plan discounts with Xfinity Mobile included. Xfinity wants to grow their mobile user base, so they often offer nice discounts when you add Xfinity Mobile to other Xfinity services.

Our Xfinity Mobile Review Summary

If you live within an Xfinity covered area, Xfinity Mobile is a high-value prepaid mobile offering, and it’s an even better deal for those who can bundle with Xfinity TV and/or Internet. I really appreciate:

  • the free unlimited nationwide talk & text on Verizon’s network
  • 5G access and strong internet performance and speed
  • the ability to share data, with up to 10 lines on “By the Gig” plans
  • the option of multiple data plans, and flexibility to switch
  • the ability to bring your own device (BYOD)
  • the extensive Wi-Fi hotspot network to help keep data costs low
  • the clear, fair, and transparent pricing
  • no contracts

As with any mobile plan, just make sure the plan option you choose aligns with your usage habits so that you can get the best value and have enough data.

I ‘m very happy with my unlimited plan from them and used my own phone (Moto G5 Plus) way before the new BYOD option offered. The fact that I use my hotspot for work/school to tether was the main selling point for me.

I’ve also heard Verizon would give their post paid customers priority over prepaid/MVNO. Did you notice issues when using data? I have Verizon now and use less than 2GB a month. I have Xfinity as my internet provider. Xfinity mobile seems like a no-brainer for me but the availability of reliable data is sticking is worrying me nonetheless. Maybe it’s a security blanket. I’ve also been w/Verizon for 20+ years. If Xfinity eventually let me BYOD, I’d be saving $70 a month.

I had Verizon prepaid prior to Xfinity and haven’t noticed any difference in speed or connection quality. I was worried about reliability too and haven’t had an issue with either service, even on vacations in other corners of the US. $70 a month?! Switch! Switch now!! The $70 a month will buy you a new Xfinity compatible phone fast! Plus, they have been running $200 rebates for buying a new phone. First it was on Galaxy phones, then it was on iPhones. They also had a $500 new customer rebate a couple months ago. That’s the primary reason I switched!

I’m told by a Comcast employee acquaintance that new and BYOD phones are “tweaked” to automatically login to XFinity wifi locations whenever they are present, to lower the use of Verizon’s network. Can anyone confirm they’re phone was modified ?

No “tweaking” or modifications done. I set up my own phone (I purchased a new phone through Xfinity Mobile). We brought my boyfriend’s phone to the Xfinity store in our town and all they did was insert a SIM card into this phone and activate it.

I had several problems with my network. I rarely leave the house so i keep my data off and use wifi. I had my phone stolen lg charge so i bought another. I had to teset some passwords etc. In doing that i noticed my phones 4g was never lit and i barely have a bar of coverage. The mode was set to global as well as saying xfinity network. It also by default used the goohle storage of contacts to make “wifi calls” which not only do i just not like because of limited options but also caused conflicts between receiving phone calls and text. Now my phone is completely useless most of the time i have to leave wifi calling on and im still have major network issues even after resetting network to use lte etc.while i love the prices and flexability of choosing the type of plan i want, its useless if im not getting phone calls/text 90 % of time.also xfinity phone support is horrible with troubleshooting or fixing issues.while they are very polite and accomadating they are unable to help with anything beyond the skill level of typing it in google yourself. Which is pretty bad. Also since there is a severe lack of information available pertaining to mostly all of xfinity related issues. Even after all this im still impressed with this overall. Being that low cost less fuss is a prioty for me.

G.E. question: So X-M big sell is their millions hotspots… what’s your experience of switching between cellular and hotspot, seamless?

I do believe X-M is the first MVNO with a metered plan ($15/1GB) to offer International roaming, the bunch of MVNOs either don’t offer it at all, or you have to buy their more expensive plans, what a pain-in-the-u-know-what for those of us who do occasional international travel and have to switch SIM when we get there. Same goes for International text, my current Tracfone just tells me NO. Nobody likes to hear no, am willing to pay them, but they are sooooo rigid these other MNVO. They all think we do pre-paid because we got no credit and therefore don’t know anybody overseas? What a bunch of dinosaurs.

Comcast getting nicer? well… I did notice they used to be adamant at sell bundles, I have tried to get Internet-only from them and they asked an arm-and-leg for a single service, UNTIL the beginning of this year and I jumped on it. OK keep it up Comcast, there maybe hope for you yet.

@ Jon Smith – I did BYOD with an iPhone. WiFi calling is indeed enabled. The hotspot/cellular handoffs are totally seamless. You can begin a call on WiFi and it will transfer to cellular once you move out of WiFi range or vice versa (this is only in areas with LTE service, but that’s pretty much everywhere for me). It seamlessly switches between Xfinity WiFi hotspots while out and about. It’s actually almost luxurious going to Starbucks, Panera, etc. and not having to sign in to use WiFi. It just works. Call quality, reception, and data speeds are exactly the same as they were when I was a post-paid Verizon customer.

I was never a huge fan of Comcast, but I had also never had any major problems with them, either. But I’ll say the experience I’ve had with XM has been world-class. They ported in my four lines from Verizon in just a few minutes in the Xfinity store (which, yes, looks a lot like an Apple store). The rep I dealt with was knowledgeable and efficient. I’ve had the service for a few months now and there have been no hiccups. It seemed too good to be true, but so far, so good.

I have a question about the in-call hand-off between Xfinity Wifi and and Verizon’s VoLTE / Circuit Switch networks. Are you sure that the hand-off goes both ways; Both hand-in and hand-out? Typically, carriers will do one but not both. And they usually do hand-out from the Wifi network to the cellular carrier network. Why? Because the call quality is difficult to control when you’re constantly jumping between networks. Imagine driving down a city street and at every stop light you pick up a Wifi network and your phone call transitions from cellular to wifi. Then when the light goes green and you go, it has to jump back to the macro network. Say goodbye to call continuity and quality. So are you sure that the service does both?

I was interested in finding out more about xm. After reading your article and the comments I’m still unsure. Mainly my worry is as you mentioned, dealing with Comcast/Xfinity is a royal pain. But so is Sprint and I’ve been with them for over 10 years. My question that I didn’t see anyone bring up is the fact that there is no contract. So if there is no contract, aren’t we subject to any price changes? Is there something that shows our price will not go up from the initial price we signed up with? ($12gb/$45unl) To my point with some of the comments about how they are not clear with what they have and don’t.

I’ve been using assorted prepaid services for years and they usually leave you grandfathered into your plan unless you change it yourself. For example, when I had Verizon Prepaid, they came out with new data packages every few months but it never affected my plan, until I read into one plan and realized it was a better deal so I asked them to switch my plan over to that. I’ve never had a price go up on my years of prepaid services (also had TMobile and Project Fi) but the nice thing is if it ever does, you can immediately jump ship to another company since you’re not locked into a contract.

This is all very interesting. I called Verizon today to let them know that I was considering going to Xfinity Mobile. Wow! What a difference! I have been working Verizon for years trying to get them to lower my rates. They want their $100 no matter what! I travel all over the US and abroad for work. Hands-down Verizon is the best network. I can’t afford not to have coverage. So when I saw that Comcast became an MVNO for Verizon, I was very excited. When I called Verizon and qouted the rates I got from Xfinity mobile, my plan went from $150 for my wife and I down to $96.40. Boom! DirecTV negotiates. Xfinity negotiates. XM Radio negotiates. Verizon never negotiates…until now! Thanks Xfinity Mobile!

This is exactly the conversation I was hoping to find in considering switching from Verizon to xfinity. My remaining questions are: what is their int’l calling plan? I can pretty much use unlimited data/calls with Verizon for $10/day. And also, do they have an app where you can limit the data used by your kids? The incentives right now are huge – $150/line (which is $600 for us) plus $300 for buying a new iPhone with them (which we need). I’m wanting this to work but concerned about the spam issue and some of the other concerns raised here. Thanks for any replies.

I had a talk with Xfinity in regards to their Xfinity mobile. I asked them if they could match or beat the plan I currently have? I have the T-Mobile ONE Unlimited 55+ 2 lines $70/month plan, which includes all taxes and fees. Guess what? Xfinity said no. I told them to bad because you just lost a potential customer.

I’ve joined XM coming from TMo back in Sept and haven’t experienced any major issues. So far the service has been pretty good in my area (Alexandria Va). My only gripe is i could have gotten a better device but this LG Stylo 4 has been ok. Ported my number to XM so i should expect that $150 rebate deal as advertised sometime soon. They said it takes 16-18 weeks. I also have Xfinity TV Internet as well so that has been solid. I guess service experience varies by location.

To follow up on my post. Since I have an XM device, i wonder if u can transfer the simcard over to another unlock android that works with Verizon (ie OnePlus 6T) or other android devices. Has anyone done this?

After having Verizon as my provider since my first cell phone many years ago I changed to Xfinity mobile. I pay for 3 phones my phone, my wife’s phone and my 93 year old mothers phone. I have seen no difference in service, I have been on the plan for 7 months now and every bill has been $19 and a few cents for all three phones. We use data a lot but since we are all retired and have internet service at home and most people we visit have internet service, we use very little data because even if away from home and we are in range of an Xfinity hot spot it automatically connects. We had one bill that was $23.86 for all three phones because we were in Cancun at a resort for 2 weeks and it costs .10 cents per call and .10 cents per text. We don’t call a lot when on vacation. We vacation from cell phones also.

Quick question for the savvy: contemplating the switch from AT&T with my only concern being anticipated complaints from my 18 year old. He’s a college freshman living in Coral Gables and into instagram with viewing multiple video feeds from friends, Barstool Sports, etc. what concerns if any should I have?

Does anyone have experience in using the the Comcast Mobile services while traveling abroad?

I’m thinking about switching. I travel aboard frequently. Has anyone experienced any difficulties using data overseas? And is pricing reasonable?

Using eBay, I have been able to get cheap, used, iPhone SE phones ($65-$80 each) to Port numbers and get sim cards activated on Xfinity mobile. Once activated, the Sim cards seem to work fine in any unlocked, CDMA capable phone. My current phone is a Pixel 2XL.

Does Xfinity offer a mifi type device with an unlimited plan? I’m looking for internet for a tablet that doesn’t use a SIM. Right now I’m using Cricket from a cell phone for wifi/hotspot but at $70 a month I get only 30 GB of data. Help!!

Does anyone have experience with leaving wifi calling on while driving around areas that have lots of xfinity hotspots? Do you constantly experience dropped calls or disconnects for streaming music/podcasts?

Just trying to figure what happens if it is always trying to log into various hotspots while driving and you are constantly going in an out of range of various hotspots. Seems like it would be a frustrating data experience.

I switched from Verizon to Xfinity mobile on 10/26/2019 with an iPhone SE today it was allowed to carry over. The SE is basically the same thing as an iPhone 6.

I have been an Xfinity TV,voice,internet customer for years and also a Verizon wireless customer for years. At one point I switched to Tracphone for my cell service and found that too often I would not receive calls and texts until much later than they were sent because my routing was prioritized after the major carriers. So thank you for talking about that. I am moving to a place where there is NO cable service, so will need to use my phones for everything, including internet, and was concerned about lags in service. I checked into XFinity Moblie and found that even though I will have to buy 2 new phones (husband has a burner, I have a Galaxy 5, and they require a Galaxy 8 or above), AND if I am not a Cable customer I have to pay $20 per line fee, XF will still be cheaper than VZ. BUT I run a business in the new place so can’t have lags. I will definitely be looking into trying to get Verizon to cough up a better or comparable deal.

If you are already an Xfinity customer, it’s one of the cheapest ways to get a $45 access to the Verizon Network without having the 4 devices (which lowers Verizon to $45/per person at 4-5+ people). Having said that, I have an actual native Verizon iPhone (from work), and my wife has the same iPhone (personal) to Xfinity on the Verizon Network. I have the impression that the actual Verizon service tends to connect and relay data when you are on the fringe of a service area. (IE: Inside a building with a metal roof, a steel frame building with a low signal, or both phones have 1 bar). I doubt myself, because it should be the same network and the same packet prioritization. Both Verizon and Xfinity are far superior to t-mobile connectivity (bandwidth and building-penetration wise). I just sense that Xfinity data seems on the Verizon network is a hair weaker and less reliable in low-signal situations on two of the same device. However, for the price difference between Verizon and Xfinity for a single phone owner, I’ll take Xfinity all day long.

My question is …. how is XM’s service? So I’ve been a Verizon customer for years now. Currently I pay a little over $300 a month for 4 lines. And lately, I haven’t been happy with their service. Where I used to have full bars in areas I frequent esp work, I now only have 2 to 3 bars and sometimes will lose the network. I’ve called Verizon when this happens and twice I’ve had to have my phone signal reset. And it’s still doing the same thing. I’ve looked into T Mobile and for 4 lines, I would be paying $186 a month (two of those phones are 55+). They are also offering for BYOD $200 for each phone you bring. I’m still researching to see if their service is any better. I think this XM deal is great and will save me a whole lot of money since I’m already an xFinity customer. BUT how is their service on calls? Texts? Data? …. etc …..

I haven’t had any issues with the service. It runs on Verizon’s network, so if you are having issues w/ Verizon in your area, you may also have issues with Xfinity. It could be a phone (antennae) issue?

You could try resetting your network settings. Sometimes popping your SIM card out and back in can help.

Is Xfinity Mobile worth it?

• Available plans include by the gig ($20 per gigabyte) or unlimited data (plans start at $40 a month). • Additional lines of unlimited data lower your cost per line, with 4 lines of unlimited data available for $25 each. • You must have Xfinity internet to sign up for Xfinity Mobile. • Service comes via Verizon's towers and Comcast's network of Xfinity hotspots. • Xfinity Mobile supports 5G on Verizon's network, including fast Ultra Wideband 5G where available.

Xfinity Mobile is Comcast's mobile provider, sitting alongside your existing internet and TV services. The idea is that if you're already getting internet and cable from Comcast, you might as well include your mobile service, too. And when you consider the value of bundling those services together, there's a pretty compelling argument in favor of Xfinity Mobile.

Comcast's customers certainly seem to feel that way. Xfinity Mobile launched in 2017 and has grown considerably in the ensuing seven years. 

That rapid growth didn't occur because Comcast started erecting its own cellular towers. Rather, Xfinity Mobile is a mobile virtual network operator (or MVNO), which piggybacks on the existing network of one or more of the major carriers. In Comcast’s case, that’s Verizon ’s network — including 5G coverage — coupled with the internet provider’s own Wi-Fi hotspots. 

For wireless customers, getting service from an MVNO can sometimes mean a better deal than what you’d get from a major carrier while still enjoying the same great coverage (though your speed may be "deprioritized" — that means slowed down — if there's a lot of traffic on the network). Our look at what MVNOs are goes into greater detail on the pros and cons of getting your service from a virtual operator like Xfinity.

With Xfinity Mobile, it’s all about the bundling, as it is with Comcast’s other services. In fact, you aren’t even eligible for Xfinity Mobile if you don’t already do business with Comcast by getting your internet through that provider. Meet that criteria, and Xfinity Mobile service could be yours, with unlimited talk, text and data only costing you $45 each month for a single line of data. (That per-line price falls to $30 when you add another line.)

Should you turn to Comcast for your cellular service? Here’s a closer look at the rest of the details to see if Xfinity Mobile is right for you.

Xfinity Mobile: How it works

Xfinity Mobile is available exclusively to Comcast subscribers. The wireless service relies on Verizon’s network (the clear winner in our fastest wireless networks testing), along with access to Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots nationwide.

If you subscribe, you can pick between an unlimited data plan and paying only for the data you use. Unlimited nationwide talk and text are included regardless of your data choice. Xfinity Mobile users pay no access fees for up to five lines. Some carriers charge subscribers as much as $20 per line in access fees on top of their regular monthly data plan rate, though for unlimited plans, those access fees are often baked into the monthly rate. 

Comcast TV subscribers will be able to use the Xfinity Stream TV App on their smartphone to stream live TV, on-demand content and shows stored on a cloud-DVR, no matter where they are; it will count against your data allotment, though, if you don’t have an unlimited plan with the carrier. More on that in a moment.

For the most part, Xfinity Mobile works just like any other wireless carrier. The two most notable differences are you must maintain a Comcast subscription and your connection will automatically transfer over to a Comcast Wi-Fi hotspot when one is in range. There's a pretty good chance one will be — there were 22 million Xfinity hotspots around the country the last time we checked, and Comcast said in 2023 that more than 80% of its mobile traffic runs over Wi-Fi. Using Wi-Fi instead of a cell tower should typically represent a boost in speed, and if you aren’t on the unlimited data plan, it will help save you data charges. 

Xfinity Mobile: How much it costs

In March 2024, Xfinity rebooted its pricing for both its by-the-gigabyte and unlimited data plans. By-the-gig pricing now costs a little more each month, but the starting price for unlimited data has dropped now that Xfinity offers two different unlimited data options.

Let's talk by-the-gig pricing first. It now costs $20 per gigabyte, up from the previous starting price of $15. By-the-gig pricing is aimed at people who don't need a lot of data each month, since using 2GB of data would cost the same $40 as Xfinity Mobile's cheapest unlimited data plan.

Xfinity Mobile: from $20/month for 1GB

Xfinity Mobile: from $20/month for 1GB Available for Comcast customers only, Xfinity Mobile offers both by-the-gig and unlimited plans. The former starts at $20/month for each gigabyte of data you use, while unlimited plans start at $40 for a single line of data. (The per-line price on unlimited data drops the more people you add to your plan.). Xfinity is constantly running new promotions to convince people to switch their mobile service, usually in the form of bill credits for bringing your own phone. So if you're considering a switch, see if Xfinity is running any promotions at the time.

For that reason, we think unlimited data is the better option at Xfinity Mobile — in fact, Xfinity's unlimited offering is among the best unlimited data plans out there, particularly for existing Comcast customers. Xfinity Mobile’s Unlimited plan costs $40 for a single line of data. And unlimited plans are even more attractive to families, as Xfinity drops the price when you have multiple lines.

Specifically, you pay $30 per line when you add a second line of Unlimited, bringing your total monthly bill to $60. A family of four would pay $100, or $25 per line.

The Unlimited Plan lets you stream video at SD resolution. You've got unlimited hotspot data at slower 3G speeds, and each line of data can use up to 30GB of data each month before Xfinity slows down your speed. You get unlimited talk, text and data in Canada and Mexico, though data speeds may be slower than usual.

Xfinity Mobile pricing as of March 2024

There's a second unlimited option at Xfinity Mobile called Xfinity Plus. It starts at $50 for a single line of data, with two lines available for $80 (or $40 per line); a family of four would pay $35 per line for Unlimited Plus, and Xfinity lets you mix and match different plans.

Unlimited Plus subscribers can stream video at HD resolution, and they've got a 50GB cap before data speeds are throttled. Hotspot data includes 15GB at 5G speeds before data is slowed to 3G. There's also 5GB of high-speed data available for Unlimited Plus customers traveling in Canada and Mexico.

Should you opt for Xfinity Mobile, be sure to enable two-factor authentication for your account and get a PIN linked to your account, as some customers have reported that their mobile numbers have been hijacked .

Xfinity Mobile: How plan pricing compares

Xfinity Mobile offers attractively priced plans compared to the major carriers. Your cheapest unlimited plan option at T-Mobile costs $50 per month for the carrier's stripped down Essentials plan. AT&T customers pay $65.99 a month for Unlimited Starter while Verizon's Unlimited Welcome plan starts at $65.

Some rival MVNOs charge less for unlimited data than Xfinity does— at Visible , which also uses Verizon's network, you'll only pay $25 a month for unlimited data with taxes and fees included. Mint Mobile charges $30 a month, though to get that rate, you've got to commit to a year of service upfront.

Because of discounts on multiple lines, Xfinity Mobile compares favorably to the best family cell phone plans . Only T-Mobile really compares to Xfinity on pricing, with four lines of the Essentials plan costing $100 per month, but only after autopay discounts.  That's now what four lines of Unlimited data at Xfinity cost. 

Xfinity Mobile's per-gigabyte pricing doesn't compare as well to other discount carriers. At Tello , for example, you'll now pay $14 a month for 5GB of data, which is $6 less than Xfinity's per-gig rate. Google Fi undercuts Xfinity by $10 for each gigabyte of data, though Google's wireless service also charges $20 for talk and text on top of data charges. And, of course, neither of those services require you to get your cable or internet from Comcast.

Xfinity Mobile: What about 5G?

The Verizon 5G network launched in 2019, so it was only a matter of time before MVNOs like Xfinity Mobile were able to use the faster 5G service. Xfinity Mobile 5G service went live in May 2020, and the good news is, you don't have to pay extra for the faster service. It's included with regularly priced Xfinity Mobile plans. 

That means Xfinity customers who pay $45 a month for unlimited data are getting access to 5G for around half the cost of what Verizon customers pay. Verizon includes 5G with its plans, and the cheapest unlimited offering currently costs $20 more than what Xfinity is charging.

There are some caveats to Xfinity Mobile's 5G service. First, you'll need a 5G-ready phone, but those are more readily available at different price points. Grab yourself any Galaxy S24 model or an iPhone 15 — Xfinity sells the phones directly in addition to cheaper midrange devices.

Verizon 5G now reaches coast to coast, with service covering 230 million people. Verizon's faster Ultra Wideband 5G reaches 200 million. That's not as extensive as T-Mobile's network, so if 5G speed is important to you, you may want to consider T-Mobile (or one of the smaller carriers that use T-Mobile's network) instead.

Xfinity Mobile: No contract required

You can cancel your Xfinity Mobile plan within 30 days of your next billing cycle date and you are only responsible for charges for the current month on your account and any remaining device payments you might have. In the first 30 days, you can cancel and return your device for a full refund, minus a $35 restocking fee. Beyond 30 days, you would be responsible for the restocking fee and any outstanding charges on the device.

According to Comcast, if you transfer your number to another carrier, your Xfinity Mobile service will be automatically canceled. If you're on the By the Gig plan, you will only be charged for the data you used between the start of your billing cycle and the day you cancel your service. Unlimited users' total at cancellation will be pro-rated based on where they are in their billing cycle. 

If you're making payments on a device, you are responsible for any outstanding payments. However, if you keep at least one other Xfinity service (e.g. internet), you can continue to make payments if you don't want to pay the remaining balance up front.

Xfinity Mobile: What devices are supported?

Device selection had been the biggest downside to Xfinity Mobile, which largely sells top flagships. However, in recent years Xfinity has broadened its selection of Android devices, and now allows users to bring some of those handsets to the network as well.

If you prefer to bring your own phone, Xfinity lets iPhone users bring their own device, provided it's an iPhone 6 or newer. BYOD service for Android phones is currently limited to select Samsung and Pixel models.

If you've got a supported phone, you send away for a free SIM card from Xfinity, and then sign in once you've received it to activate your account.

Xfinity Mobile also sells tablets (all iPad models) and smartwatches (both Apple Watches and the Galaxy Watch 6 ) in addition to other mobile accessories like cases and charging pads. You'll pay $10 per line per month for an Xfinity Mobile plan covering those devices.

It depends on your situation, but for some customers, Comcast’s mobile service seems like a solid value, especially for single users who want unlimited data. The included 5G is just the cherry on top. Families should also give Xfinity Mobile a look now that there are discounts on multiple lines.

Users that can get by on 1GB of data per month would also likely do well on Xfinity Mobile. But as noted above, the more data you use at Xfinity Mobile, the less attractive a single line of the service becomes when compared to the best prepaid phone plans . 

Xfinity Mobile is more appealing now that you can bring your own phone to the service, though Android users will need to have very specific Samsung or Google phones to take advantage of that feature. You can check if your current phone will be compatible using the Comcast's checker tool .

You can use Xfinity Mobile when traveling to other countries, though you'll be charged for talk, text and data (rates vary by country). In other words, there are better international data plans .

Unlike providers like Spectrum Mobile, Xfinity Mobile’s shared data packages make By the Gig surprisingly competitive. By the Gig’s 3 GB and 10 GB data pools are affordably priced, and the data plans are a great fit if only a few family members want more data but can’t afford an Unlimited line.

Xfinity Mobile’s three Unlimited plans have generously sized data caps of up to 50 GB before your speeds get throttled (1.5 Mbps for downloads, 750 Kbps for uploads). Xfinity Mobile’s data caps are in line with most of the competition. Spectrum Mobile offers a 30 GB plan, while Verizon includes a 50 GB cap.

To put this in perspective, my screen time is, on average, four hours per day, and I use about 2 GB of data per month.

Pro tip: Depending on where you live, Xfinity may offer a $40 bundle that includes a 300 Mbps internet plan and Xfinity Mobile. Check out our Xfinity deals guide to see if you qualify for the promotion.

The Unlimited plan’s staggered per-line pricing is one of its biggest advantages, as you’ll get a larger discount for every line you add to your account.

By comparison, Spectrum Mobile’s unlimited plan comes with only one discount ($29.99 per line with more than two lines). Xfinity Mobile will offer the best savings if you’re getting service for more than five people.

But we wish Xfinity Mobile would’ve extended traffic prioritization to its Unlimited Plus plan—currently, the feature is limited to By the Gig and Unlimited Premium plans. Traffic prioritization basically means that your internet speeds won’t significantly dip if you’re in an area with high network traffic like a sports stadium or train station.

I like how Xfinity offers internet, cable and mobile services on top of having a hotspot to connect to while traveling through the city.

Xfinity Mobile has a couple of small fees

Xfinity (of all providers!) has shockingly few fees attached to its Xfinity Mobile service—you won’t even have to pay any activation or access fees. Xfinity charges two fees that are less than $5 per line, so nothing to break the bank.

But if you want to add a smartwatch or tablet to your mobile data plan, you’ll need to pay an additional $10 per month.

Because Xfinity Mobile requires Xfinity internet , you’ll get hit with a continuing $25 monthly fee if you leave Xfinity but want to keep Xfinity Mobile. But we like how Xfinity Mobile’s no-contract setup means you won’t have early termination fees if you cancel your cell service early.

What to look for in a mobile provider

For families shopping for cell phone service, Xfinity and Xfinity Mobile plans have more overlap than you’d expect. From data charges to Disney+ , here’s everything else you’ll need to know about Xfinity Mobile’s plans.

Order a cellphone plan with the right amount of data for you

To figure out your family’s data needs, think about their smartphone habits. Are you mainly using your phone for phone calls and texts? Are your kids regularly streaming podcasts and listening to Spotify?

If your family simply needs phone service, we’d recommend a 1 GB or 3 GB By the Gig plan. But if more than a few family members are regularly using their phones for Netflix shows and Reddit, consider getting the Unlimited plans. Xfinity Mobile allows you to mix and match, so your account can have Unlimited and By the Gig plans to meet every family member’s smartphone needs.

Xfinity Mobile deals are nonexistent

Xfinity Mobile is great if you’re an Xfinity internet customer interested in affordable smartphone plans, but don’t expect much beyond that. Plans from carriers like AT&T and Verizon are pricier than Xfinity Mobile, but they also add promos like free Max (formerly HBO Max) subscriptions and bundled international-use access.

By comparison, Xfinity Mobile’s best deals start and end with its plans. For instance, you’ll have to buy a daily pass ($5 or $10) or pay for data by the megabyte (around $0.05 to $0.25 depending on country) if you’re traveling overseas with Xfinity Mobile.

It’s hard to beat Xfinity Mobile’s low prices, but if you’re already subscribed to other streaming services or regularly travel overseas, look at the bonus add-ons you’ll get from competing providers to ensure you get the best deal.

Xfinity Mobile separates itself from the smartphone provider pack with upsides like its lack of activation fees along with tiered discounts on its Unlimited plan. It also runs on a Verizon network, so you can expect reliability and affordability.

To get Xfinity cellphone service, you’ll have to bundle with Xfinity Internet . But that’s not a big deal since Xfinity is one of the best cable internet providers.

Xfinity Mobile is owned by Comcast and is, technically, an MVNO which means it doesn’t have its own network.

Instead, it piggybacks off another carrier’s infrastructure – in this context, Verizon’s – and this allows it to offer significantly cheaper data plans.

How cheap? Normally better than 40% less than most mainstream carriers like Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile, where you’ll pay upwards of $80 for an unlimited plan.

The only difference between Xfinity Mobile and Verizon is that with a proper Verizon unlimited plan you get loads of additional extras thrown in for free – stuff like free Disney and ESPN subscriptions and free access to Apple Arcade.

As with most things, there is a catch with Xfinity Mobile. In order to get access to its deals, you need to already be a Comcast subscriber . If you’re not a Comcast user, you cannot get on Xfinity Mobile.

But if you are a current Comcast user and you want to save some money on your monthly phone bills, Xfinity Mobile might just be worth looking at – you can get an unlimited plan for just $30 a month .

Xfinity Mobile vs Mint Mobile / Visible

Xfinity Mobile’s unlimited plan cost matches both Mint and Visible, another Verizon-powered MVNO network. But how is Xfinity Mobile different from, say, Mint Mobile or Visible?

The first thing is that there are no contracts and it is ONLY available to current Comcast users.

The second is that, with an Xfinity Mobile plan, you get access to over 20 million WiFi hotspots . Handy if you’d prefer to save some data when you’re out and about.

And, finally, you can either get a brand new device –  like an iPhone 14 –  direct from Xfinity Mobile or bring your own, current Android or iPhone, as part of its BYOD scheme. Xfinity Mobile has options and plans for both types of scenarios.

Xfinity Mobile 5G Speeds – How Fast Is It?

With respect to speed, if you’re in an area that supports 5G Wideband and you have a run that can run it you’re looking at 5G speeds in excess of 3Gbps which is bloody fast.

And the reason you’re getting these speeds is that Xfinity Mobile runs on Verizon’s network, and Verizon is investing billions in its 5G rollout and its wideband towers.

If you’re just on its standard 5G band, you’ll get anywhere from 80Mbps to 1Gbps . Again, it all depends on where you are and what type of infrastructure is in place. Verizon is rapidly growing its wideband network at the moment though, so speeds of 3Gbps are getting more and more common, especially in cities and larger towns.

How Much Does Xfinity Mobile Unlimited Plan Cost?

In the intro to this post, I said that Xfinity Mobile charges around 40% less than Verizon. That isn’t technically true – it’s actually more, as of 2022.

An Unlimited Plan from Verizon starts from around $80, whereas at Xfinity Mobile you’ll pay just $30 for its unlimited plan which is better than half the price.

What’s the difference? You don’t get things like free Disney and/or ESPN subscriptions with Xfinity Mobile. But if all you’re interested in is unlimited data and fast 5G speeds, that’s hardly a deal breaker.

Me? I’d much rather have cheap unlimited data for just $30 a month than pay three times that and get Disney+ and ESPN access. That way, you can pick and choose what you subscribe to and keep your monthly phone bill nice and manageable.

Xfinity Mobile Flexible Plans

If you don’t need unlimited data, and some people really do not, Xfinity Mobile also offers what it calls “flexible data” plans. With a flexible data plan, you pay for a select amount of data per month – either 1GB, 2GB, 3GB, 5GB, or 15GB for example.

And that’s all you get. If you need more, you can add more. But if you go over, you will be charged for the surplus data used.

Again, Xfinity Mobile’s flexible data plans are ideal for certain types of users, but not all. Here are a few examples of people that would benefit from using flexible data over unlimited data:

  • You don’t use much data on average over the course of a month.
  • You never stream videos or music on your phone.
  • You only use your phone for calls, emails, web browsing, and texting.
  • You don’t leave the house much, so are usually connected to WiFi.

And here’s the cost per GB of data:

Again, the only time going with a flexible data plan over an unlimited plan is if you KNOW you’re not going to use any more than 1GB a month. If you know you will use more than 1GB of data a month, you’re obviously better off going with an unlimited plan.

Yes, it is double the cost at $30 per month but with this plan, you’ll never have to worry about data again. Plus, if you go for the $15 1GB flexible plan and go over you’ll likely be charged close to $20 to $30 anyway, so it makes more fiscal sense to just go with the $30 unlimited plan .

Xfinity Mobile is among the big providers now offering mobile services to its customers. Running on the Verizon network, customers can get affordable monthly rates while also enjoying fast, reliable service.

But before you make the move, there are a few things to consider.

What is Xfinity Mobile?

Xfinity started as Comcast Holdings in the 1960s. After becoming well-known as one of the top cable TV providers in the country, Comcast expanded to provide internet to homes and businesses in the 1990s. The name “Xfinity” was adopted by Comcast in 2010 to expand beyond home TV and internet services.

In 2017, the company launched Xfinity Mobile , inviting existing customers to enjoy discounted cell phone service. Xfinity partnered with Verizon to run its service off of Verizon’s existing network of towers to offer the best signal strength available.

If you use a lot of data each month, you’ll want to opt for one of Xfinity’s unlimited plans. The plans aren’t truly unlimited, though (most plans in the cell phone universe aren’t). A user’s data will be throttled, or slowed down, once 20GB has been used within a month.

If you aren’t a heavy data user, you might want one of Xfinity’s “by the gig” plans. These plans will automatically add more data (and cost) if you exceed your allotment for the month.

Xfinity Mobile features

The wireless market is packed with affordable providers. Here are a few features that make Xfinity Mobile stand out.

Fast, reliable connection

Xfinity Mobile runs on the Verizon Wireless network, which consistently ranks as the fastest network. It also has the broadest coverage of all the mobile carriers. Xfinity also offers 5G access for phones that have the capability.

Bundle pricing

Xfinity Mobile  is only available to the provider’s existing internet customers. However, all you have to do is sign up for their internet services and you’ll qualify. You’ll also pay less per line the more lines you have connected. The best monthly rates are available for households needing to connect four lines.

Flexibility

For those who don’t consistently use large amounts of data each month, a per-GB plan may work. But even if you choose an unlimited plan, you can switch to a per-GB plan at any time, then back again. You can adjust between 1GB, 3GB, 10GB, or an unlimited plan from one month to the next as your needs change.

Discounts on devices

You can bring your own device or choose from Xfinity’s selection of tablets and smartphones. There are typically deals on the devices Xfinity sells, but you’ll get a $25 prepaid card if you bring your own.

You can keep data usage at a minimum by using Xfinity Data Saver . With this tool, you’ll be able to easily shut off features like HD streaming and personal hotspot capabilities to keep costs low.

Hotspots available

Another way you’ll save on data usage is with Xfinity’s hotspots. Xfinity has set up more than 18 million hotspots across the country. Just input your ZIP code here to find nearby locations. Once you have an Xfinity account, you’ll just look for Xfinity in the list of available WiFi connections on your laptop, phone, or tablet and connect using your Xfinity email address and password.

My experience researching Xfinity Mobile

As a current Xfinity subscriber, I have to admit I’m intrigued by the rates. Switching cellphone providers isn’t easy, though, so I wanted more information to make a decision.

I like that Xfinity is upfront about its pricing. I am concerned about the throttling that happens once you use 20GB on the unlimited plan each month. This seems fairly standard, though, as I’ve looked around at other wireless providers. With the highest-tier per-GB price costing $60 per line per month and only giving 10GB, I could see going with unlimited.

One thing I love about being an Xfinity internet customer is the hotspots that are available. I’ve connected to them while out and about, and it does come in handy for keeping data usage low while you’re traveling. With so many other options for free WiFi available, you could find that you’re rarely exceeding the 20GB a month that puts you at risk of being throttled.

Just to give you an idea of hotspot availability, there were more than 4,500 hotspots in my suburban town. As you get closer to Nashville, the number increases substantially. Keep in mind that signal strength will vary depending on how far you are from the nearest hotspot. I’ve had to switch to data several times when I realized my connection was unbearably bad.

Who is Xfinity Mobile best for?

Xfinity customers.

Since Xfinity Mobile is only available to existing Xfinity customers, this one is a given. If you are happy with your current internet provider or Xfinity internet isn’t available in your area, you’ll have to consider another wireless provider.

Multi-line households

The best prices are available to households that have multiple lines. If you have three or four cell phones in your house, you’ll especially see cost savings.

Frequent travelers

With millions of hotspots and access to the fastest cell phone network, Xfinity is a reliable option for travelers. But even those who stay close to home can benefit, since they’ll be on home wireless and rarely using data. If you travel internationally, you’ll be charged more for the services you use, so make sure you compare pricing to what other carriers offer.

Who shouldn’t use Xfinity Mobile?

Heavy data users.

Those with extreme data use each month may want to consider another option. The unlimited plan slows down after 20GB of monthly use. You also won’t get access to HD streaming with the unlimited plan – only the per-GB plans. If you spend most of your time on WiFi, though, this won’t be an issue.

Older phone owners

If you’re bringing your own device, compatibility is limited to mostly newer phones. Most Apple devices are supported, but only select Android models are eligible. Those in the market for a new phone may find Xfinity Mobile’s discounts on new phones make it worth switching.

Your phone will need to be unlocked and, if you want 5G compatibility, you’ll want a newer device with the technology built-in. Although wireless plans start at $15 per month, that only gives you 4GB of data. For unlimited data, you’ll pay $30 a month.

Xfinity Mobile vs. Visible

Like Xfinity Mobile, Visible runs on the Verizon network. Visible loves customers that bring other customers to its network, though. You’ll pay $25 for your first month, increasing to $40 a month, but if you participate in something called Party Pay, you can cut that cost considerably. With four in your party, you’ll get your plan back down to $25 per month.

One of the best things about Visible Wireless is that data is truly unlimited. So you won’t have to worry about being slowed down. If you plan to use your phone as a hotspot, though, pay attention to the limits. Hotspots can only support one device at a time and are limited to 5 Mbps.

Xfinity Mobile  gives Xfinity internet customers access to affordable mobile service. With Verizon’s robust network and a variety of compatible phones, you can get the same great service you’re already getting for less. Before you switch, check the availability of 5G and mobile hotspots near you to ensure it’s the right choice for you.

What Is Xfinity Mobile? Here’s What You Need To Know

Xfinity Mobile  is a  mobile virtual network operator (MVNO)  that provides access to Verizon Wireless’ cellular network.  It’s a service that’s available exclusively to Xfinity Internet customers.  

At Clark.com, we recommend Xfinity Mobile as one of  the best Verizon Wireless MVNOs , and it’s also one of  the cheapest plans for two lines . Smartphone data plans including 5G access start at $20 a month with unlimited talk, text and 1GB of high-speed data. Unlimited plans begin at $40 per line for a single-line account or $30 per line for 2 lines.

You can activate your service online or in-store with Xfinity Mobile; either way, there’s a one-time $10 activation fee that will appear on your first bill.

Xfinity Mobile offers two types of plans to choose from: By the Gig and Unlimited.  Xfinity Mobile’s Unlimited plans are best if you use more than 1GB of data per month.

Both types of plans are prepaid monthly, and both are available only to existing Xfinity Internet customers. According to Xfinity’s website, an additional $25 per line monthly charge applies if Xfinity TV, Internet or Voice post-pay services are not maintained.

Xfinity By the Gig Plan Pricing

Previously, Xfinity Mobile offered three different limited phone plans ranging from 1GB-10GB per month. Now, Xfinity Mobile only offers 1GB per month for $20 . Additional data costs $20/GB, or you can upgrade your line to the unlimited plan at any time.

Based on this price, if you use 2GB of data in a month, you will owe $40. That’s the same price that you would pay for a month of unlimited service with Xfinity. So, if you think you’ll use more than 1GB of data, the unlimited plan is a better option.

Xfinity Unlimited Plan Pricing

By the Gig plans include shared data between all lines on your account including phones and/or tablets. If you don’t need a ton of data, the By the Gig plan can be a great choice. Alternatively, unlimited plans include a set amount of high-speed data per month per line.

The basic Unlimited plan includes 30GB of high-speed data per line plus unlimited mobile hotspot data at 3G speeds. This plan also supports standard-resolution streaming (480p video). 

Unlimited Plus includes 50GB of premium data per line plus 15GB of mobile hotspot data at 5G/4G speeds. It supports high-resolution streaming (720p video).

By the Gig and Unlimited plans from Xfinity Mobile are priced competitively, but they don’t take into consideration the cost of internet service. After all, you must have another Xfinity service (such as an internet plan) to sign up.

If you have Xfinity Mobile and later cancel the internet service, you’ll have to pay a line access fee .

They don't even deserve one star. I closed my account with them two months ago and now they have just charged me $76. for the service I cancelled. I have been waiting on a refund for two weeks now and when I called they are saying it is only $26. what kind of crap is this. Also it would be nice to actually understand what they are saying. My credit card was charged without my authorization. I was mailed a phone that was activated before I received it and then charged $78 before even being able to dial out on it. I told Xfinity Mobile I no longer wanted service.I later received an email informing me that I had an order on the way which I had never consented to. They mailed me another phone and charged my card without my consent. I had a total of 2 credit card charges that I had to report to my credit card company. I ended up placing a block on my card to prevent these thieves from taking money out. Both phones have been returned and I am still receiving emails from this company asking me to activate another phone. Do not do business with these people. I am definitely looking into starting a class action lawsuit.

Incompetent customer service - sent to collections for fake #s!

We had a terrible experience with Xfinity internet (constant freezing on Zoom) and they couldn't fix it, but they had a monopoly in our location. We were thrilled to leave as soon as we had another option. Then Xfinity mobile wouldn't release 2 of our family's 4 mobile numbers, causing people to be without phone or text access for 10-14 days! In the process, the impossible customer service kept promising fixes and putting us off for days at a time, and when we finally got access to top secret high level customer service, they did solve the problem, but to do so, they had to create 2 dummy phone numbers. We were assured those accounts would be cancelled. Not only was that untrue and we were charged for another month, but when we noticed and got on chat to remove the accounts, two different agents on two different days told us the account would be cancelled - we even got cancellation confirmation emails - and yet Xfinity kept charging us and eventually sent our account to a collections agency! For something we didn't even use! They aren't real phone numbers or accounts! I've never in my life worked with more incompetent customer service!

Worst Customer service ever!!!! Run far away from this company

This is the worst service ever, the customer service agents doesn’t make notes in the system regarding any issues and will lie and say they are creating tickets for investigation and don’t. Representatives lied through their teeth when they signed me up -- about the pricing, coverage, the fact that the mobile phones were locked, etc. And everytime I had an issue (like everytime I take the simcard out of the phone, the internet stops working), it would take me hours and hours on end talking to a person, and then they would say "we promise it will start working in the next hour," and that would turn into a lie, and then a new round of hours of waiting to talk to a rep would restart....They are the absolute worst! I am just waiting for my contract to end. I wish it was possible to give negative stars so I could give them the highest negative rating...

Don't believe the Credit Card Promotion

Okay new chance for Comcast. I spoke to the Redemption Center. They instructed me to speak with Wireless again and to a manager. I did ask for a manager, the agent said she had to get with her supervisor first. It seems they put the cards through. I will check in a few days with the redemption center to see if they did do this. If all works out it takes 4-6 weeks for the cards. I will clear the review when this situation is resolved. So a positive we hope? Don't believe the Credit Card Promotion. Started service was told they give a 200.00 Credit card for each line brought in from another service. Takes 90 days. In January of 2024, received 1 credit card for 100.00. I called the salesperson, they said they told them and the department would get with me. No response after many calls. Only they say oh no one is for 100.00 and the other is 200.00. No, not what I was told. Anyway haven't received another credit card either and it now is April. Been calling since January and each person says they are escalating the issue. Right. each time I call they tell me it wasn't escalated. Service my phone drops network all the time...without realizing it at times. Where is my 200.00 card for 2nd phone done the same day in September. Where is my additional 100.00 that I was TOLD I would get for transferring service... And if not for all the dropped networking I get...lol

Stole trade in and locked new phone after it was paid for

Bought new phone and sent in a perfect S21 Ultra for 800.00 trade. New service would not get mobile data, could not send MMS messages. Dealt with support for several hours over a 2 - 3 week period and they could not fix. I told them I would go back to Verizon and they gave me instructions to do so. Switched to Verizon but Xfinity Mobile prevents it from connecting. Now they say that I am not allowed to move to another carrier. I have no cell service and am still paying Xfinity. Paid my phone in full, they rejected my trade in but will not return it to me. So, they owe me $800.00 plus 1299.00 if they won't release my new phone, plus they keep billing my credit card for the new phone monthly payments even though the phone is paid in full) And, I do not have any cell service with Xfinity nor Verizon since the SIM has been switched to Verizon. NEVER do business with Xfinity mobile.

Really awful company

Really awful company. The customer service reps were nice enough to try and help me. But they are ill-equipped to do anything other than read from the screen they’re given. Spent hours on hold over 10 different calls within a couple weeks. Disappearing credits, overcharged, false promises. Learned a few lessons, but this company is horribly operated. Why can't I talk to to someone in the US, so we can understand each other? I thought I was getting a reduction on my triple play account, and ended up getting a 2nd mobile phone I didn't want or need. Never got the $50 reduction per month on triple play, and after I returned the unopened phone, they wouldn't refund all the charges. $40 I just handed over for nothing because I CAN'T UNDERSTAND THESE PEOPLE!! I will only deal with the xfinity store from now on where I can talk to an American who speaks English.

EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED!

I am extremely unsatisfied with Xfinity Mobile. A sales representative for Xfinity Internet convinced me to move my family's 4 phones (2 had physical sim cards). I told the rep I wanted to wait to transfer all 4 phones at the same time, and I was told that would not be a problem. After 1 week, still no sim cards in the mail. I called to ask if I could just pick up cards at an Xfinity store, the rep urged me to wait and assured me my service would be pro-rated from time I received sim cards and transferred my lines. Additional weeks passed, and I called 3 more times. Finally, a rep told me to go to the xfinity store to pick up the sim cards. I did & transferred all my phones at the same time. I then received a bill for the 3 weeks that I did not have xfinity service due to their negligence in getting me sim cards. So, I ended up paying xfinity and my previous carrier for those 3 weeks. I called Xfinity several times and escalated that I was overcharged and that I was promised I would get a pro-rated bill. The reps and managers all told me, "Sorry, the policy is to charge me whether my phones were transferred or not," and I was not given any further recourse. On top of this, one of my lines went over on data when I purchased unlimited since the phone was used for work while on the road. Unlimited data in reality is 50g. No one ever explained this limitation, and they only told me to connect to xfinity hot spots (which are not always available when traveling). I am EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED!

We like Xfinity Mobile because it’s the first plan we’ve seen in years that can honestly cut down costs. We also like that it’s not pushing people to upgrade to the latest phone. You can bring your own phone or shop for a new one, but there isn’t the same type of pressure to upgrade that you might experience with other carriers.

How good is Xfinity Mobile service?

Xfinity Mobile is designed to leverage Verizon’s 4G LTE network and Xfinity’s nationwide hotspots into one single money-saving package. The plan automatically connects your phone to any available Wi-Fi hotspot, which keeps data usage to a minimum.

It’s a cellular and Wi-Fi combo approach that’s worked for budget carriers like TextNow and Project Fi, although Xfinity utilizes Verizon’s award-winning network instead of Sprint’s or T-Mobile’s.

One thing to keep in mind is that Xfinity Mobile is available only to Xfinity customers as part of a bundle. You must have Xfinity internet service to sign up for a mobile phone plan. The advantage to this is that it waives the line fee. Carriers like Verizon and AT&T can charge $20 per month, per line, which you pay on top of the data package. Xfinity Mobile has no monthly line fee, which will save you $20 per line.

The last thing to keep in mind with Xfinity Mobile is that there’s no family plan or multiline discount. If you have multiple lines and need an Unlimited plan for each line, you’ll save more with other providers.

Xfinity Mobile plans

Xfinity Mobile offers two phone plans: Unlimited or By the Gig . Neither one includes a monthly line access fee, which is where the savings begin.

With the By the Gig plan, you just pay for the data you use each month. And you can share data between lines. By the Gig costs $15 per GB, and yes, Xfinity will round up. So, once you hit 1.1 GB, you’ll be paying for 2 GB. Still, if you have a lot of hotspots in your area, it might be a great way to save. You can have up to five lines on one Xfinity Mobile plan.

The other option is the Unlimited plan, which gives you data that cannot be shared between lines. Unlimited plans get 20 GB of Verizon’s 4G LTE data at full speed. After 20 GB, data will be slowed to 1.5 Mbps. This is a lower data throttle threshold than AT&T or Verizon, both of whom offer full-speed data up until 22 GB. However, with Xfinity Mobile, you do have the Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots you can hop on for faster speeds on the go.

Both Xfinity Mobile plans include free talk and text nationwide, plus 100 MB of data. One thing we really like is that it’s possible to switch between plans anytime you want without a penalty. This is pretty unique in the mobile industry, and if you keep on top of it, you can use it to save money.

Additional fees may include equipment, international and roaming charges, taxes and fees, regulatory recovery fees, surcharges, and other applicable charges. Fees and prices are subject to change. If one other Xfinity subscription (TV, internet, or home phone) is not maintained, a $20 per line monthly charge may apply.

Xfinity Mobile tech

Xfinity Mobile brings you all the advantages of a Verizon plan at a lower price, including the Verizon 4G and 5G LTE networks. Features like Voice over LTE let you talk on the phone and use the internet at the same time, which is helpful when you’re trying to give someone directions or talk to a friend and pick out a restaurant together.

Xfinity Mobile is less expensive than typical cellphone plans because it’ll auto connect to Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots whenever possible, saving you on data.

As far as new phone selection goes, Xfinity carries many popular models, but you won’t find the wide array you’re used to seeing at carriers like Verizon. Installment plan pricing is about the same as other carriers (and sometimes even a few dollars more). The Xfinity Mobile savings come from the data plans that let you use Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots, not the phone purchase model.

iPhone users can save money on this plan by bringing their old phones into the plan with them. You can bring any iPhone that’s a 6 or newer. Xfinity will send you a new SIM card that you can pop into your iPhone. This option isn’t available for any other phones yet (including Samsung Galaxy).

If you want to reap the biggest money-saving benefits of this plan, we recommend either bringing your existing phone with you into the plan or buying a phone outright. Only iPhones (6 or newer) can transfer over (although Xfinity Mobile offers LG, Galaxy, and other phones for purchase that work on the plan). So this isn’t the type of plan you can use to get inexpensive mobile service for your kids using outdated phone models.

As far as new phone selection goes, there’s no getting around the fact that Xfinity has a limited number of phones for sale. Currently, they offer less than 25 models. Xfinity Mobile offers some of the most popular models, but if you want an unusual device, you won’t be able to buy it or even bring it with you to an Xfinity Mobile plan.

Xfinity Mobile utilizes Verizon’s 4G and 5G LTE networks, which is the largest and fastest in the US. You’ll get priority access to the network, even though you’ll be paying lower prices than Verizon customers.

Xfinity Mobile relies on Xfinity’s Wi-Fi hotspot network, which is why you need to have Xfinity internet to get Xfinity Mobile. By using the hotspots, you’ll find you use much less data than you would otherwise.

If you travel outside of Xfinity coverage areas, you won’t have the free Wi-Fi hotspots you’re used to. This can cause a heavy drain in data usage, which will cost you. Xfinity home phone is a landline phone service with unlimited long distance calling within the US and select countries. It’s good for people who frequently call friends and family across the country, or for folks who like having a landline with better call clarity than cellphone service. You can get a digital landline phone from Xfinity with unlimited long distance for $29.99 per month. It also bundles with their other services.

Voice Unlimited includes free unlimited long-distance calls anywhere in the US, Canada, Mexico, India, China, Puerto Rico, Hong Kong, Singapore, and South Korea. Long distance service is not available to cell phones in some of these countries, so this plan could be a lifesaver for those with family or friends overseas.

Home phone technology

Xfinity home phone lines don’t run through traditional phone lines wired into most homes. Instead, Xfinity home phone service is delivered via the internet. This type of landline phone service, called VoIP (or Voice over Internet Protocol) offers a clear connection and dependable service.

If you’re not sure if you want to be tied down to the house every time you make a call, no worries. VoIP landline phone service can go anywhere with you, through an app. You can download the Xfinity Connect app on a smartphone or other device and call and text as much as you want.

Xfinity home phone service is affordably priced at $20 per month. Xfinity Voice phone service includes unlimited long distance in the US.

Required equipment

The Xfinity Wireless Gateway is a modem/router combo. You’ll need to rent it for $13 per month or buy an Xfinity-compatible modem/router combo.

We recommend buying your own if you’ll be staying with Xfinity for awhile, because the cost of renting adds up quickly.  If you rent an Xfinity Wireless Gateway for two years, you’ll pay $312. In five years, you’ll pay $780.

You can buy your own modem/router combo for $75 to $250 and save a bundle. Just make sure it’s an Xfinity approved modem/router combo before you buy anything.

Features and benefits

An Xfinity home phone plan (called Voice Unlimited) includes 12 calling features, including voicemail, caller ID, blocking, and more.

With the Xfinity Connect app, you can place and receive calls from anywhere with your internet-connected smartphone, tablet, or cordless phone. Service includes unlimited talk and text with the Xfinity Connect app.

International plans

Do you have loved ones in other countries? Calling them from a typical cellphone plan can be really expensive. You can add one of the International Carefree Minutes plans and enjoy 300 minutes per month of international phone calls to select countries for $9.95 per month. Additional minutes will be billed at a discounted long-distance rate.

Xfinity Mobile doesn't operate any of its cell towers. Instead, it leases tower space from Verizon so the company is able to offer nationwide 5G cell phone service to its customers. According to J.D.Power, Verizon has the most reliable 5G cell phone network in the United States.  5G service is included in all of Xfinity's mobile plans at no extra charge. Xfinity also operates millions of secure Xfinity WiFi hotspots around the country to keep customers connected wherever they may be.

Like other cellular service companies, Xfinity Mobile doesn't guarantee 5G speeds 100% of the time. Some rural areas may routinely deliver slower speeds. You can check to see if your location has access to 5G by entering your zip code on Xfinity Mobile's website. You may also experience reduced speeds during times of high network traffic. In addition, you will not receive 5G speeds after your premium data usage exceeds 20 GB for the billing cycle.

Users pay no activation fee to get started with Xfinity Mobile. The service offers two types of plans: by-the-gig and unlimited. Its Unlimited plan costs $45 per month for a single line,  but the price per line is lower if you connect multiple lines to your account. For example, if you connect four lines through your plan, you'll pay just $40 per month per line for a total cost of $120. That's a very favorable deal for families. If you bundle your cell service with Xfinity TV or home phone service, you may enjoy additional savings. The company offer periodic promotions that can lower the cost of multiple services, too.  

Those who don't use as much data will appreciate Xfinity Mobile's by-the-gig plans which enable you to pay for 1 GB of data for $15 per month, 3 GB for $30 per month, or 10 GB for $60 per month. Xfinity Mobile gives households a great deal of flexibility by allowing customers to mix and match plans by assigning varying amounts of data to each line connected to a single account. You can even assign one line to an unlimited plan and another to a by-the-gig plan. This makes it a great choice for households whose individual members may require more or less data throughout a billing cycle. If at any time during the month you realize you need to adjust your data plan, you may do so at no additional charge.

There's one other nice feature of Xfinity Mobile plans that we should point out. Xfinity is one of the few companies offering high-performance cellular service without requiring a long-term contract. The best phone carriers available today offer the kind of service that customers don’t have to constantly think about or fret over. Simply put, they provide a seamless mobile experience that “just works” more often than not.

If you’re now pondering what, exactly, Xfinity Mobile is, don’t worry. You’re almost certainly not alone, and we’ve got answers.

What is Xfinity Mobile?

To put it another way, it's the Comcast version of phone services like Verizon and AT&T. It's actually very close to those services because Xfinity Mobile is an MVNO, a type of carrier that doesn't own any towers but actually leases service at wholesale prices from the big players and re-sells for you. This type of service is often cheaper than buying directly from the carriers, though it comes with different plans and restrictions (more on that in a second).

Comcast may not be a household name in the phone service industry quite like it is in the internet business, but Xfinity Mobile does still offer some essential features like unlimited talk and text, a lack of phone line access fees, and the ability to add up to 10 lines to a single Xfinity Mobile account.

There is, however, a major disclaimer attached to Xfinity Mobile: Only users who already have service with Comcast are eligible to sign up for Xfinity Mobile. Being that Comcast is one of the biggest internet providers in the country, that may not be as big of an issue as it seems. But if you’re not the bundling type, it may be something to take under consideration.

What plans does Xfinity Mobile offer?

There are two distinct service plans offered under the Xfinity Mobile umbrella. The first is what the company calls its “By The Gig” plan. Once again, the title is somewhat self-explanatory. For each gigabyte of data used by the lines connected to a specific Xfinity Mobile account, a fixed price will be attached to it. For users who don’t need to use mobile data very often, this might be a good way to keep monthly costs at a minimum. But, for those who tend to surf on the go quite often, those gigs will add up quickly.

The second service plan is the “Unlimited” plan, which offers, well, unlimited data to the lines associated with an Xfinity Mobile account. The Unlimited plan allows up to four lines to enjoy all the mobile browsing they can handle on a monthly basis, with a few caveats. For example, mobile video streaming is limited to standard definition 480p. In other words, you won’t be able to catch any 4K content on your smartphone during a commute to work.

The other catch—one that’s shared by both of these plans—is that after 20 GB of monthly usage, mobile speeds are throttled to a maximum of 1.5 Mbps download/750 Kbps upload. You’ll still be able to access the internet at that point. It’s just going to take a lot longer to do so, at least until the end of your monthly cycle. Once it renews, you’ll be free to browse at normal speeds once again.

How much does Xfinity Mobile cost?

As expected, the pricing associated with each of the Xfinity Mobile plans differs significantly. Starting with the By the Gig plan, there are three standard data options to choose from: 1 GB for $15 per month, 3 GB for $30, and 10 GB for $60. Keep in mind that this data will be split amongst all the phone lines attached to your Xfinity Mobile account. Another key consideration: each GB of data used that exceeds your chosen option will cost $15 each.

With Unlimited, the price breakdown revolves around the number of lines involved. A single line on an Xfinity Mobile account will cost $45 per month, with two lines for $80, three lines for $100, and the maximum of four lines coming at a cost of $120 per month. Additionally, regardless of what plan you choose, adding connected accessories like tablets and smartwatches will add $10 per month to your total bill.

Which devices does Xfinity Mobile support?

Several different smartphones from major brands are among the devices supported by Xfinity Mobile. For Samsung lovers, Xfinity Mobile supports the Galaxy Z Fold3 5G, the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G, the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G, the Galaxy S21+ 5G, the Galaxy S21 5G, the Galaxy Note20 Ultra 5G, the Galaxy A42 5G, the Galaxy S20 FE 5G UW, the Galaxy A32 5G, the Galaxy A52 5G and the Galaxy A12.

Apple options, meanwhile, include the iPhone 13, iPhone 12, the iPhone 12 Pro Max, the iPhone 12 Pro, the iPhone 12 mini, the iPhone SE, the iPhone 11, and the iPhone XR. Motorola is in the mix, too, with available options including the Moto G Stylus 5G, the One 5G Ace, the Moto G Play, and the Motor G Power.

You can also bring your own phone into the mix, as long as it fits Xfinity Mobile’s list of compatible devices. If you have an iPhone 6 or newer, you’ll be able to pair a free SIM card from Xfinity with it. The same goes for certain Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel smartphones. As for tablets and smartwatches, Xfinity Mobile supports and sells all iPad models and all Apple Watches.

How do you sign up for Xfinity Mobile?

Comcast boasts that signing up for Xfinity Mobile won’t include any activation fees or term contracts. It does, however, require you to have Xfinity internet service in order to sign up for the provider’s mobile plan.

If you already check these boxes, you can sign up for Xfinity Mobile by visiting an Xfinity Store. The provider does recommend that, before heading into your local store, you should come prepared by having proof of identity (a driver’s license, passport, or other state-issued ID), as well as current carrier information if you have plans of transferring your current phone number to your new provider. Comcast also suggests backing up your device before visiting, claiming it will expedite the process of signing up for Xfinity Mobile.

They suck. I paid to have my phone paid off so I can "unlock" my SIM and they are nowrefusing to do it. They say I must wait "2 billing cycles" = 60 days. I paid off my phone because I need it unlocked when I travel to Italy in 2 days. Xfinity has my $$$ but my phone SIM remains locked. I will be switching to a different carrier and reporting this to the BBB, the SEC, the DOJ, my credit card company, and my local US representative. This is fraud as I was told that as soon as my phone was paid off the phone would be unlocked in 25 hours. It has not been 3 days.

Xfinity NOW Mobile questions

I have some questions on the Xfinity NOW Mobile product here: https://www.xfinity.com/now/mobile 1) Can current Xfinity Mobile customers switch to the NOW Mobile product? 2) Will there be a $25 per line fee to switch?  3) https://www.xfinity.com/now/mobile lists the expected speeds and latency for 4G LTE and 5G which appears to be exactly what Verizon states, does the NOW Mobile product provide 5G Ultrawide Band? Thanks!

I'll list out the answers in the same order as well. Most of the answers are from the FAQs doc that I can email you if you can send us a direct message with your email. 1) "I’m an Xfinity Mobile customer, can I downgrade to NOW Mobile? Downgrades from Xfinity Mobile to NOW Mobile are not available at this time — but stay tuned as we work to make these enhancements available in the future."

2) Since it hasn't launched yet, it hasn't been released if there will be a line fee for switching to Now Mobile

3)That's a great question and all of my documents on it just say 5g. I'd assume that is because it doesn't but I'm double-checking on that with my team.

Many thanks, is the service and benefits identical to Xfinity Mobile unlimited other than #3 as while it lists expected speeds, it appears to be taken out of Verizon Wireless's speed expectations but 5G Ultrawide Band is not the same as 5G as they are two different things and I know some mobile providers include 5G Ultrawide Band access on Verizon's network and some don't.

Hello again Almighty188 great to hear from you!  As mentioned on the site you provided above,  Xfinity Now Mobile does have several benefits comparable to our Post=paid Xfinity Mobile services including: 

-Unlimited talk, text, and data -Nationwide 5G -Access to over 20 million Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots

-Flexibility to pause and resume your service. 

Thi s last point is one of the main differences and what many people who are interested in Now Mobile are looking for.

The other point for NOW Mobile is the $25 includes all fees and taxes which for San Francisco, CA for example is $6.85 per line for Xfinity Mobile Unlimited at $30 per line with 2 lines.   Something missing from NOW Mobile and included in the Xfinity Mobile Unlimited is calling/texting to Mexico/Canada and roaming in Mexico/Canada including unlimited talk/text/data is included.  Unlimited high speed data meaning 4G/5G speeds is the first 20GB on NOW Mobile vs the first 30GB on Xfinity Mobile.   Also, NOW Mobile might not include 5G+ aka 5G Ultrawide band as from Xfinity's site: NOW Mobile only shows 4G LTE/5G under Speeds Provided with Plan

 4G LTE is defined as 9Mbps-69Mbps down/1Mbps-13Mbps up, 51ms-82ms latency 5G is defined as 34Mbps-149Mbps down/6Mbps-37Mbps up, 42ms-63ms latency 5G+ is defined as 215Mbps-702Mbps down/14Mbps-75Mbps up, 37ms-56ms latency So it would be great if Xfinity Mobile Unlimited can also have all fees and taxes included.

What's also missing from both Xfinity Mobile and NOW Mobile that competitors are including for free is texting/talk is free unlimited to international destinations as a feature.

When the Status Center says everything is alright, and you still have issues, contact them for further information and assistance. If you're a Comcast business subscriber, you'll use a different web portal to access your Status Center. Follow the steps below to use the Status Center:

  • On your PC or phone browser, visit xfinity.com and sign in to your account.
  • Click the account icon in the upper-right corner. Then select Support .
  • Scroll down to Common Solutions to find Status Center .

You'll see a banner at the top of the web page. It informs whether your services are stable or if there are outages. You'll also see devices linked to your account and buttons to restart them.

Xfinity tells you whether there's an outage, and you'll see purple indicators. Expand the Map Legend section to see what each means and view the estimated restoration time.

The Xfinity app provides a quicker way to check for outages than a web browser. Open it and log in to your account. The app automatically shows outage information specific to your region. You need to grant it location permission for it to work. Plus, you'll skip the manual process of typing an address.

You can also find and fix connection issues or ask the Xfinity assistant to check for downtime via chat. When you activate notifications for the app, you'll receive them when you aren't actively checking the app. You can download it on the Google Play or Apple App stores.

How to check Xfinity outages on social media

People tend to complain about products on company social media accounts. It's one way to get a brand's attention since the issue becomes public, and they must address it. If any of Xfinity's services are down, you'll know when you visit the online accounts and see complaints from other customers.

It mostly uses Xfinity as its username across Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and other channels. You can also check their official community ( forums.xfinity.com ). Some users exaggerate their situation, so take feedback with a grain of salt. Consider this method a last resort if you checked for downtime using the above methods without success.

Your Xfinity account's Status Center gives you insight into service issues. Most times, you don't have to make an official report. When there are multiple services with downtime in your Status Center, you'll see a banner with a button to follow up on it.

You can enter your phone number to receive text message alerts when connectivity is restored. If you aren't a fan of automated responses, you'll see a link to schedule a call with an Xfinity representative. You can also call 800-934-6489 . If you prefer to text, send a message to @XfinitySupport on X.

You may be entitled to a reduction in the amount you owe on your bill when there are major outages. You can request a credit, which asks Xfinity to adjust your bill due to the inconvenience. Check your eligibility on the outage credit request page .

Troubleshooting is still worth a shot

An Xfinity outage can mess up your online plans, especially when it affects your internet and not other services. It can happen when there is a faulty cable line or gateway. Your gateway is a gadget that combines modem and router features to connect you to the internet. Restarting, repositioning, and updating your device's firmware are some ways to boost its signal .

Comcast is out with some new prepaid connectivity offerings today. The new internet plans are simple and affordable with speeds up to 200 Mbps for home internet and unlimited 5G data for the mobile plans . Meanwhile, NOW TV includes access to 40+ networks for live and on-demand content.

Update 5/9/24: After initially launching in select markets, NOW Internet and NOW Mobile have joined NOW TV and NOW WiFi as available everywhere Comcast provides service.

The new Comcast prepaid NOW services are low-cost, no-contract options for customers.

Comcast shared the details in a press release :

“Backed by the powerful Xfinity network and the most reliable 5G, NOW delivers a connection customers can rely on for Internet, mobile or streaming in their homes or on the go. NOW products are designed to be incredibly simple with all-in pricing, no contracts or credit checks. Customers can sign up, pause, or cancel online, anytime.”

  • NOW Internet  customers will be able to choose between two prepaid options: 100 Mbps for $30/month, or 200 Mbps for $45/month. Each tier includes unlimited data and an Xfinity gateway.
  • NOW Mobile  will provide unlimited 5G data, talk and text for $25/line and will be the only prepaid wireless option that seamlessly connects customers to more than 23 million Xfinity hotspots. 
  • NOW TV   is a streaming offering for Xfinity Internet customers that includes live and on-demand programming from 40+ networks, more than two dozen integrated FAST channels, and Peacock Premium, all for $20/month.
  • NOW WiFi Pass  gives customers unlimited access to more than 23 million Xfinity WiFi hotspots for $20 for 30 days.

NOW TV and NOW WiFi are available now “everywhere Comcast provides service.”

Comcast says that NOW Internet and Mobile plans are currently available now in some areas with greater availability coming soon.

Xfinity Internet Review: Customers Call It “Reasonable” and “Reliable”

Customers credit Xfinity for being “reliable” and having “reasonable” prices, but is customer service up to the task?

Xfinity Internet is a solid provider in a lot of ways. It delivers fast speeds over a cable internet connection, holding its own against top-notch fiber-optic brands in our Fastest Internet Providers lineup. New customers can get low introductory prices and a sweet mobile and internet bundle.

Xfinity doesn’t quite stack up against most fiber providers, which offer simpler pricing structures, faster maximum speeds, and (often) unlimited data. Fairly or not, parent company Comcast also doesn’t have the best brand reputation.

Although Xfinity gets average or above-average ratings in major satisfaction surveys, some customers who spoke with Reviews.org either loved it or hated it, while others gave mixed reviews.

“Xfinity had many plans available, which made it possible to find one to fit our budget,” said longtime Xfinity customer Derek Marsden, who shares the internet with his wife Rachel. “The downside is the prices would often jump around after a year, and we would either end up paying more or switch plans.”

Get to know Xfinity: The basics

Xfinity offers up to eight plans (depending on where you live), all of which run over a cable network. Prices vary based on region, but expect to pay between $20 and $120 a month for download speeds that range from 75Mbps to 1,200Mbps. (There is also a 2,000Gbps plan available in select areas.)

Some Xfinity plans require a one-year term contract, but others don’t. You also get lower “promotional” pricing for 12–36 months after you sign up, depending on the plan. Once the promotional pricing expires, the cost of your plan goes up (usually by $20–$30 per month).

Xfinity plans in some service areas come with a monthly data cap of 1.2TB, which is plenty for most users. An additional $10 per block of 50GB gets added to your bill when you exceed your cap, or you can get unlimited data through the xFi Complete service, which costs $25 per month on top of your bill.

You pay a $15 monthly fee if you're renting a modem/router from Xfinity. But you can waive the fee by investing in your own Wi-Fi equipment . “Over the long run, this will save you substantially over the cost of leasing, and it will get you access to much better equipment,” said Scott King Walker, a former Xfinity customer in southern Virginia.

What makes this Xfinity review legit?

Our fact-based research centers around interviews with internet customers from across the country, helping us understand how internet services hold up against diverse needs and challenges. 

To put together this review, I interviewed seven current and former Xfinity customers from Utah, New Mexico, Virginia, and Connecticut. We let their experiences guide our research and shape our conclusions. I also spoke with an Xfinity spokesperson to discuss the company’s reputation and customer service, and I took a close look at the brand’s pricing, speeds, and technical capabilities.

The rundown: Xfinity by our criteria

For all our internet reviews, we give a rating based on three main criteria—speed and reliability, dollar value, and customer experience—which we then average to make an overall score. How does Xfinity internet stack up? See our full take below.

Speed and reliability

Xfinity is quick. On our Fastest Internet Providers report , Xfinity Internet took third place with a speed score of 166.05—a score that we got by adding 90% of Xfinity's average actual download speed with 10% of its average actual upload speed. Only fiber providers Google Fiber and Metronet scored higher than Xfinity. That’s really impressive on Xfinity’s part—cable providers usually don’t come close to delivering the same speeds as fiber.

Dylan Woolf, a customer in Salt Lake City, lives alone and said his 200Mbps plan is all he needs for streaming, browsing, and remote work. “What I need it for, it works. I just don’t think about it that much,” he said. “I have had a couple outages, but they’re so infrequent that I don’t generally notice them.”

But a few customers told Reviews.org that their service tended to run slow, while others said they experienced frequent outages. Bridget Gutierrez, who lives in suburban Albuquerque with her husband and two kids, told Reviews.org that her Xfinity internet is always a little too slow no matter what plan she tries. “It seems like every time I've gone up to the next speed, it didn't make a difference,” Gutierrez said.

Dollar value

Xfinity’s prices compare favorably to other internet providers. But while you may pay less for your cable internet plan, you usually get less too.

For example, Xfinity’s cable internet connection isn't as fast or reliable as fiber internet , and you only get unlimited data if you pay extra for it. Xfinity also has installation and rental fees—extras that fiber providers have begun phasing out. In many cases, you can get more bang for your buck paying for a gigabit plan with unlimited data from a fiber provider compared to a slower Xfinity plan with a data cap.

Also, Xfinity starts customers off by charging promotional rates that go up after a year or two of service. After the promotion period expires, your monthly bill goes up by anywhere from $20 to $30. It’s not a dealbreaker—promo prices are common among internet providers—but it can make for an unpredictable billing experience.

Customer experience

Customers who talked with Reviews.org gave mixed reviews about their experiences with Xfinity. Guterriez, the customer in Albuquerque, tries to renegotiate her contract every year, but customer service never offers her a deal—which she suspects has to do with the fact that Xfinity is the only high-speed internet provider available in the suburban development where she lives. “They always say, ‘Oh, only this [plan] is available,’ and pretty much you don’t have a choice,” she said.

Other customers describe routine interactions with customer service. “Nothing sticks out,” said Woolf, the Xfinity user in Salt Lake City. He’s rarely had to seek out customer support for a technical issue and doesn’t recall any standout moments. “It’s just one of those sort of routine, run-of-the-mill experiences that doesn’t register as notable,” he said.

When pressed, some customers who were down on Xfinity didn’t have actual negative experiences to draw on—suggesting that Comcast’s reputation may cause premature bad feelings. In fact, data shows that many Xfinity customers are satisfied with parts of the service. For example, HighSpeedInternet's Customer Service Satisfaction Survey finds that 95% of Xfinity customers are happy with their speeds .

How long it takes to get a real human on the phone: It took two minutes to reach a live person, but that was for someone who didn't have Xfinity already. Gutierrez says she usually has difficulty getting a service rep on the phone. "They want to do everything through the app," she said.

Our experience with Xfinity’s chat service: The Xfinity Assistant chat service is convenient for easy issues, but the service uses an AI chatbot that is not so bright. If you ask a question that doesn't have a preset response, you may have trouble getting a straight answer.

Overall quality

Xfinity has much to offer customers, particularly its speed, availability, and introductory prices. Its customer service issues definitely dull some of the shine, and it can be a hassle to remember how long your contract has been in effect to anticipate price hikes. But Xfinity’s mobile bundle options offset the costs of a plan, and Xfinity’s track record for delivering fast speeds make it a solid cable contender. Also it’s widely available across the country, so it’s more likely you can get fast internet from Xfinity compared to a fiber provider.

What do customers think of Xfinity?

It’s a tale of two providers when you talk with Xfinity customers. Some love Xfinity’s speeds, reliability, and promo prices, while others give the impression that they’re locked into something with few other options.

Even just in northern Utah—one of the regions where Xfinity is widely available—customer takes can be split between loving it and hating it, with little nuance in between.

“My parents had Xfinity Internet, and there were no problems,” said Chantel Buchi, an Xfinity customer in Salt Lake City. “So when we got our own place, Xfinity was the first internet service I thought of ordering. Also, based on reviews, I knew Xfinity was one of the best cable internet providers. We’ve never experienced throttling or outages.”

Rachel Marsden, who often works remotely, says she had a great experience with Xfinity, but then experienced more technical issues after moving to another city just a few miles away. "Since moving to Farmington, it has been awful. Not sure why, but in this area, the internet is going out pretty often,” she said. “We have an outage at least once or twice a month, which impacts my ability to work from home."

A short drive away, in the city of Bountiful, Rachel Mabey said she only has Xfinity because her other option is a slow DSL connection. She was one of the victims of an October 2023 data breach that impacted nearly 36 million Xfinity customers . "I've not had many good experiences with Xfinity," she told Reviews.org.

As an IT worker, Mabey has an intimate understanding of network security—making the breach all the more frustrating. She told Reviews.org that hackers gained access to sensitive information from her account, including the last four digits of her social security number and answers to her security questions. The hackers tried to access her and her fiancé’s email accounts, but were foiled by two-factor authentication.

“[Xfinity] didn't do anything while it was happening. I reached out to customer service and they acted like everything was fine. I, however, knew it wasn't,” Mabey said. “About a week later, they put a message on their website talking about the breach.”

Getting a deal through Xfinity can be tricky

Xfinity offers lots of deals to bring down its monthly bill—but usually those deals are available only to new customers. That’s why Albuquerque customer Gutierrez can’t get a better rate whenever she tries to negotiate with customer service. "I wish that they would treat their new customers the same as their existing customers," Gutierrez says.

Bill Holmes, a customer in Connecticut, found a clever workaround. In August 2022, he went into a brick-and-mortar Xfinity shop to return his Xfinity Flex streaming box and cancel his account. He and his wife then went on vacation, and when they came back they signed up for a new plan—this time under his wife’s name. “She’s a brand new customer, so we got a two-year [deal] for $39.99 a month,” he said. 

Spencer Biehler, an Xfinity customer in Layton, Utah, is intrigued by Xfinity’s internet and mobile bundle, which gives customers a free line through Xfinity Mobile for a year when they have a qualifying internet plan. “They are doing a cell phone discount I might check out,” he said, “and possibly move my phones over if I decide to stay with them.”

Digging deeper: Is Comcast customer service all that bad?

Like many cable companies, parent company Comcast has been the target of withering memes and media scrutiny over service issues—most infamously for an incident in 2014 in which an ornery customer service rep refused to cancel a family’s internet service. Part of the reason Comcast adopted the Xfinity name was to improve its brand reputation.

It’s been a decade since Comcast’s biggest controversies, but Xfinity remains controversial among its customers. Some customers who spoke with Reviews.org have legitimate horror stories, like Rachel Mabey's incident with the data breach. Former Xfinity customer Scott King Walker even used scare quotes when discussing the customer “service."

But most people I talked to didn't have a specific egregious experience, suggesting Xfinity customer service is more meh than menacing. In fact, Xfinity Internet ranked highly on HSI's 2023 Customer Satisfaction Survey. And in the 2022–2023 American Consumer Satisfaction Index, Xfinity Internet scored 68 points —two above the average internet provider score of 66.

"We're always working to improve the customer experience ,and over the past several years have rolled out new and improved experiences," Comcast spokesperson Kristen Gohr told Reviews.org. She added that the company has invested "more than $20 billion in the last five years into the long-term health, security, and growth of our network, including the addition of advanced technologies like AI, which resolve more than 60% of issues before a customer notices them."

So, while Xfinity customer service may differ from some customer expectations, it could be better-than-standard for the internet market.

Xfinity vs. the competition

Compared to the competition, Xfinity doesn’t always shine. It doesn’t offer a fiber internet connection or the fastest speeds. But Xfinity holds up in a lot of ways. Its prices trend lower than other providers', especially if you're looking at the promo offerings in the western U.S. And Xfinity’s good old-fashioned cable connection is still incredibly fast and reliable, giving most users what they need.

Cable internet service is more widely available than fiber-optic internet, and it’s faster and more stable than 5G home internet, a fixed wireless service offered by Verizon and T-Mobile. It’s factors like this that make Xfinity a bread-and-butter internet option for millions of netizens.
