Rude Customer Care Executive Dubai

Booking.com has always been nice but this time I was charged extra. I paid more amount then actual amount. I have given them the proofs of my bank statement also. I was talking to one of their customer care executive Jazz, I think in Dubai, he was very very rude. His behaviour was not acceptable. I request the management they should take some action towards such executives who can't solve the disputes but behaves rude with the client.

Booking being let down

After booking a Calgary Super Bungalow in February then being told by the owner a month later we had only booked one bedroom and would be sharing with other people in the two other bedrooms. Then in May receiving a message the bungalow had been sold please cancel your booking. Leaving my travel arrangements in turmoil. None of this was made clear on initial booking. NOT VERY GOOD. TOTALY DISAPPOINTED. It seemed funny there is a rodeo in Calgary the two weeks we are away ??????? IT STINKS OF BEING KICKED OUT FOR MORE PROFIT CONFIRMATION BOOKING NUMBER 4436960251

Unreliable travel agency...

Took a trip to Spain and booked all our hotels through Booking.com. 2 separate hotels charged me incorrectly for nights they called "no show". When I called to resolve through Booking.com they were very nice, polite, and appeared helpful. However, in both cases the end was the same. They told me I needed to contact the hotel myself and request an "exception" and then they could help me. Total lost was over $800 US dollars. I spent hours attempting to resolve directly with Booking.com, and they disconnected our call 3 times while it was being "escalated" to a supervisor. Booking.com is an unreliable travel agent.

As a partner of Booking.com no damages support

As a partner of Booking.com with multiple properties they have no problem taking 20% commission on every one of my bookings but when I need help due to cigarette burns in my couch etc they are 100% unhelpful and do not show up to support. Airbnb on the other hand take a much lower commission and are very helpful in covering us hosts when it comes to damages.

April 2024: booked a 2 persons+2 dogs rooms in Bristol with Booking.com. We ended up in a claustrophobic, windowless room, the size of a cupboard where we had to crawl over each other to get in/out of bed. May 2024: booked a 2 persons room in Birmingham. We ended up in a - albeit large - room with sealed windows; a sink in the bathroom that would have been perfect for a 5 years old but absolutely impractical for 2 medium-height adults, and no possibility whatsoever to store any toiletries in the bathroom or in the bedroom. In both cases, the description of the room did not give any indication that we could have been confronted with such a problem I will not use Booking.com again as the information they provide is neither accurate or complete.

Not possible to make any changes!!!

I rented a car via Booking.com and I wanted to make small change regarding the drop off time, but surprisingly they told that it is not possible to make any changes after the pick up. Also the car company told that they don't have access to our booking since we have booked through 3rd party. It is very disappointing since many things might happen during your trip when you should make some adjustments, but it is not possible through booking.com Shameful!

avoid booking.com flights

avoid Booking.com ,never buy a travel ticket from booking.com, I have cancel our flight immediately just few seconds after purchased a wrong ticket , the system shows 2-5 days to get the money back , I have tried for over a week I have been told that they are waiting for the airline to get the refund and after a week lied to me and a week later a nice guy who answered my call he told that the money never been paid to the airline and after 2 weeks still waiting and I have been told today it could take up-to another 7 working days. also you get the ticket from another crap company called Gotogate so you never be able to contact booking.com you always get a respond from gotogate .

NOT the least bit interested

I booked a holiday in the uk for a long weekend through this company. It was dirty, not as described and both the gas and the boiler were switched off so no heating or water for first night of stay. Turned to Booking.com for assistance - not interested in the least. Just some automated emails across weekend and then one saying ok thanks for letting us know, just leave a review. DISGRACEFUL. I had booked through a company for peace of mind so I had paid more. Donā€™t bother as they are not interested in helping when things go wrong.

Booking.com doesn't care about their customers.

I have used booking a lot in the past, the last reservation that I made, the owner changed the apartment changed the address, I tried contacting booking.com for days, "we will check on the matter" and in the end for them it's all okay for owner to change the whole apartment and the whole adress and not let the customer know at all that they did that. So disappointed, will never use anymore.

Do not use Booking.com when arrangingā€¦

Do not use Booking.com when arranging flights! Due to a medical emergency I had to pay Ā£150 for a flight change. However because they took so long to make the change, I was still booked on my original flight that departed. They then requested an extra Ā£60 to book a 'new' flight instead of a simple date change because of this! Scammers! I ended up requesting a full refund and booking the new flight myself (which was Ā£50 cheaper as well!) Avoid for booking flights

Terrible Customer Service

I have an account with Booking.com & received a message that I would acheive Genius Level 3 status if I made two bookings prior to April 9. I did but then received another message saying I would achieve Genius Level 3 if I complete 2 bookings by September. My account in Booking.com shows that I have completed 16 bookings within 2 years, which qualifies for Level 3. I emailed Booking about this. I received a reply, probably AI generated, just stating their policy. I've asked for a phone number twice to no avail. They send a number in which you have to have a current confirmation. Terrible customer service and very deceptive.

Overpaid for hotel and price claim was rejected for nothing

Booked the hotel 2 weeks before. Day of check in I checked the location on the app and realized that the price had dropped by 40%. Emailed booking.com to do a price claim. After 3 days of asking for proof and getting all the information they tell me they can't honor it because the claim wasn't submitted 24 hours before check in. What difference does that make? We overpaid by 400 usd. Rather book directly with the hotel.

Complained to them that hotel would not give me a refund for the second night after I checked out due to noise from a games room and teenagers running amok late at night . Customer Services asked me for more information and then ignored me. Absolutely hopeless.

Please don't book any flight via booking.com because you will regret it. I tried booking through them and their confirmation email doesn't come with standard details about the flight and customer service is not helpful either.

Check your hotel

The hotel we booked had no mention of construction on booking.com website. When we arrived the lobby was torn apart. We had a jackhammer ( literally) running at 9am both Saturday and Sunday morning 6 feet from our door. We had a two night stay and would have been charged for late cancellation, not to mention no other rooms were available.

I have used Booking.com for some timeā€¦

I have used Booking.com for some time and until now never had a problem. I will never use them again. I booked a 'camping pod' and used my 'reward' five minutes later decided to book a caravan instead (more room, more facilities) the change was simple, except that I lost my 'reward' according to them any cancellation involving a reward means the reward will be returned. It has not, for months I have been emailing and I have sent every scrap of information requested, several times. Again today I sent off everything they need to know, and they asked for. Again I get an email saying they need more information. I will never ever use Booking.com again. Not even worth the one star.

AFTER USING THEM FOR 20 YEARS + NEVER AGAIN

I booked 2 nights at the Salt Beach Resort, Kingscliffe, Queensland Australia. I understood I booked an apartment with 55 sq metres of space with a sea view. What we got was an apartment half the size with no sea view, instead a view of a nearly completed construction site. I complained to the management firm responsible who insisted we were given the correct room and told us that it was Booking.com's responsibility. On returning home I brought the matter to Booking.com who referred to the exclusion terms of their contract which excluded them from any responsibility. Only after I sent photographs of the tiny room did they concede and accept my position but only after weeks of arguement. In return, they offered a goodwill gesture amounting to 30% of the cost. In my view, Booking.com have become too big and their Customer Service has deteriorated so badly to a point they treat long standing Customers with a contempt and arrogance reflective of their size. My confidence and trust in this firm is gone and I will not use them in future.

Appalling customer service

Appalling customer service - details of a city apartment misleading and inaccurate - a spoilt weekend and abusive phone call from the owner to my friend who arranged it. Booking.com did less than nothing to assist. Hopeless.

“Flight flexi ticket is a literal scam!”

Avoid buying any flight *******@bookingcom at all costs. Especially their flexi ticket which they don't support and is a literal scam! We tried to get a flight change for 5 days, eight calls, the flight times came and went, while they promised to call back in 3 hrs every time. Never a call came! Left stranded overseas, our only option was to buy a completely new ticket direct from an airline company. To top it off, their online complaints form is broken on both chrome and edge.

We were charged twice for a 4 night stay. We also only stayed 1 night because the hotel room was infested with bed bugs and cockroaches. We were bitten at least 100 times. We informed Booking and sent them pictures of the bites, the roaches and the double charges on my Visa. They kept saying they were not receiving our emails and basically refused to help us. We ended up paying for 8 nights, stayed 1 and were in a horrible room. They did nothing. Expedia would have been far more helpful.

Booking.com host hotel that provide false advertising, no toilet paper, & bedbugs. They would not provide refunds after spending with for years without complaint. Use another third party service NOT Booking.com.

I've been trying to get my money back from booking.com cancelation for the longest time ever. The amount of over 500$ has been taken out of my "wallet" and never returned! Customer service is fully automated, which means you never get to speak with an actual person. All emails are answered by an automated service as well. DO NOT BOOK THROUGH booking.com! Go to hotels directly or airbnb.

Tip for consumers: Total rip off!!! Stay away from booking.com!

Disappointing Experience - Unfulfilled Booking and No Refund I regret to share my disappointing experience with Booking.com regarding a reservation I made for an Oyo hotel in Mumbai. Despite making a reservation and paying half of the total amount in advance, I encountered a significant issue upon arrival. Upon reaching the hotel, I was informed that the booked room was unavailable and that I could secure a room by paying an additional Rs. 1000 beyond the originally listed price on Booking.com. This unexpected demand was both distressing and unprofessional. Despite raising this concern with the hotel staff, I was met with indifference and no resolution was offered. To exacerbate matters, I've reached out to Booking.com's customer care twice over the past three months, yet regrettably, no action has been taken to rectify the situation or refund my money. My sincere advice to future guests is to exercise caution when using Booking.com. It appears that their booking system does not guarantee room availability, and the lack of responsiveness to customer concerns is disheartening. I strongly recommend calling and confirming reservations directly with the hotel to avoid unforeseen complications. Date of experience: December 15,2023

I booked a scam on booking.com and fought so hard for my refund. I still haven't received the refund for the scam, but only for the additional costs that came from booking a new accommodation. Worst customer service on the planet and they're making billions.

From the business

Booking.com provides online bookings of hotels, resorts, hostels, and other travel accommodations around the world. The site attempts to separate itself from rival reservation sites by offering deals and its own hotel reviews. Booking.com is a subsidiary of Priceline.com, a publicly traded company (Nasdaq: PCLN).

I made to naples

I made to naples, on arrival I was asked for 200 euro deposit against damages to be refunded in 2 weeks. Its now 3 months and the property management have not refunded and will not communicate with me. Booking.com have not helped me to recover this money. I have been scammed. Not happy to use them in the future. I trusted the site but not again. Very disappointed

Filthy accommodation complained requested a refund when you get through to customer services after a lengthy wait they pretend they can't hear you and they cut you off. Another time they put me on hold then I got cut off. Rubbish avoid doing business with them.

Terrible Customer Service

As long as you have no issues, which I rarely do, Booking is great. But after a recent stay, I was double-charged by Booking, as I did not pay the hotel anything directly. They now want me to provide bank statements and all of these things even though their system should keep records showing that they double-charged me. This would be different if I was charged at the hotel and Booking, then I wouldn't mind the work as it would be necessary. The staff always words the issue like it may be made up. Disappointed. I'll still use them as I rarely have issues, but not going to recommend them as much.

Terrible, exhausting experience of getting my property on their system for almost 2 months. Ridiculusly useles support team, everytime new person, cant do anything, only say how sorry they are. I feel sorry for people who work there... I can hardly believe that such a giant can be so inefficient, unprofessional which results in house owners loosing time and money while dealing with the platform. Zillion miles away from AIRBNB on the level of support and efficiency.

European Scam Upcharges Quotes !

Scam! They had my hotel listed for 1k USD for 3 days and charged $2500 Canadian! ( should be less than USD!) I had to struggle to find phone contact. They told me to submit a price match which I did including photos of their listing. They followed up with again requesting I download the photo of their own listing which the site did not even work. Innocent ppl using this site may trust them and not read the confirmation and get stuck paying these fees( more than the hotels non discounted!!! ) I used to trust them ! wasted a day setting up a multi site trip and could not proceed. Caution - they are now a European scam!!

Double Shade

Booked a stay which seemed like a good deal at the Silver Legacy in Reno. Booking charged me a resort fee in addition to the advertised rate. Silver Legacy charged me an additional resort fee. I was double-charged the resort fee. Neither company would refund me the extra resort fee even after showing the proof that I was double-charged. Neither company would take responsibility for the double charging. I am sure they have done this to thousands. Deceptive and shady business practices. Booking has lost a Genius Level 3 customer and I will never stay at a Ceasars brand hotel again.

On Monday 29 April 2024, on arrival at the Dana Hotel in San Diego Marina, I canceled the 2nd and 3rd night of this reservation after learning that they charged an extra $35 daily parking fee that neither Booking.com nor the hotel disclosed on their websites. Very disaapointed Loyal (ex) customer

I was a loyal customer to them more than 10 years and never compared prices until I was checkin-in with a friend and saw that I paid 33% more than them with the same cancelation conditions and without breakfast. When I contacted them to activate their price match claim, they said it is only valid prior to the stay which makes it a false advertising as the intent of price match is to give you peace of mind.

Appalling customer service - details of a city apartment misleading and inaccurate - a spoilt weekend and abusive phone call from the owner to my friend who arranged it. Booking.com did less than nothing to assist. Hopeless.

A Leading Vacation Rental Site Catches Up With the Timesā€”But How Does It Stack Up?

Gone are the days when travel involved an appointment with a travel agent, a professional travel booker who held the keys to the mystery of airline reservations, hotels, car reservations, package deals, and attractions. The internet has changed travel planning in many ways. First, travel is more common, more frequent, and the internet allows travelers to make last-minute decisions in just a few clicks. It also gives travelers the option of doing their own research, looking at photos of destination properties and services, reading user reviews, and changing or adjusting their schedules as necessary. This is convenient, but for many years this style of travel planning shifted a lot of weight onto the travelers to read between the lines on hotel sites, cross their fingers that the car rental company they picked was reputable, and navigate sometimes-complex rules and conditions of airline reservation services. The advent of travel planning sites, where many of these features are combined on one website that connects all of the pieces of travel planning, research, and booking together, has simplified the process of planning a business trip or a getaway.

Booking.com is one of the most comprehensive travel booking sites in the market. Its offerings are vast, and the interface makes it simple for both inexperienced travelers and seasoned jetsetters to make their travel arrangements without the hassle of navigating multiple sites and coordinating payments across multiple platforms. I approached this Booking.com review through the lens of a customer and evaluated the customerā€™s journey in using the site.

Our Verdict: Booking.com claims to offer a complete suite of travel research and service reservations, and with a few minor exceptions, this proved to be the case. ā€œBookers,ā€ as the site refers to its customers, can feel confident that the resources they need can be easily found and that Booking.com will genuinely offer the one-stop-shopping experience it promises.

Booking.com Review: Claims

Booking.com began as a small start-up in Amsterdam in 1996. Since then, it has expanded to include more than 28 million accommodation listings, transportation, and travel experiences. The companyā€™s stated mission is to ā€œmake it easier for everyone to experience the world.ā€

Branding itself as a source of savings and discounts, connections with travelers who have similar interests, package deals, and inspirations, Booking.com promises quite a lot. The home page also provides myriad ways to enter the site, with a stripe of category offerings, a quick-start option to jump right in by specifying the destination and basic travel deals, searches by region and property type, and links to lists of canā€™t-miss destinations for travelers who know they want a vacation, but donā€™t know where.

What You Can Book on Booking.com

Booking.com offers access to almost everything except the kitchen sinkā€”and travelers can probably book one of those, as well, if they choose the right property. Categories include flights, hotels, ā€œstaysā€ (rentals of privately owned apartments, homes, cabins, and cottages), car rentals, and every combination of these options. In addition, there are options to reserve airport taxis and tickets or passes to museums, shows, and attractions at the destination.

Flight options include all of the major airlines and quite a few smaller or regional airlines, and these can be sorted by airline, number of stops, duration, and a range of departure and arrival times. The flight results are sorted into groups titled ā€œBest,ā€ ā€œCheapest,ā€ and ā€œFastestā€ so travelers can customize their flight choices.

Lodging options feature a similar search window including check-in and check-out days, location with neighborhood-specific choices, the number of guests, and the number of rooms requested. As with the flight search, thereā€™s a range of filters available to help customers tailor the search to their needs. Filter examples include budget, amenities, distance to attractions, sustainability, health and safety protocols, accessibility, and both site-assigned star ratings and customer review ratings.

The rental car reservation system carries over the travel dates from the flight and hotel reservations if the customer has entered them. Customers can select their preferred car rental company and size of the car, and filter by cost, mileage, and transmission type. Reviews and star ratings of the companies are included in the search results, as are specifics of the payment policies and cancellation policies. Once customers have selected a car, Booking.com breaks down the cost of the rental, separating out the cost of the rental itself and various taxes and fees. Customers are offered the opportunity to choose or decline additional insurance coverage as well.

Booking.comā€™s Airport Taxi reservation system connects users with local taxi drivers to avoid a long delay waiting in line after a flight. According to the reservation page, a driver will be assigned to the booking, track the flight in real time, and arrive at the designated location shortly thereafter. Customers can select the size of the vehicle (the search page includes the number of people and the number of suitcases each vehicle can handle), add notes about any additional needs (child seats, assistance needed for passenger accessibility), and add a tip for the driver. Booking the taxi locks in a predetermined cost for the trip, and customers can opt to book a return trip at the same time or wait to do so until later in their travel.

Local attraction tickets and passes can be purchased or reserved through Booking.com as well. Customers can enter their destination and view a list of local museums, parks, theaters, tourist attractions, and activities. Selecting one of the options reveals a page including details, reviews, cancellation conditions, and maps, and a selection option for the date, time (if applicable), and number of tickets. The descriptions also include any visitor requirements and limitations of the location, along with accessibility compliance and public transit options. Finally, Booking.com includes a link for customers who would like to list its properties as rental ā€œstayā€ options for other Booking.com customers.

How It Works

Booking.com provides several menus for customers to choose from on the landing page. Customers select the combination of services theyā€™d like to book (more can be added later) and work their way through the search screens, filtering results, reading through options, saving favorites, and eventually adding the services they want to a cart and checking out. For customers who arenā€™t quite ready to book their travel, the site also offers a range of researched guides to choosing destinations. Customers can click into areas that interest them to read more about the location, learn more about the neighborhoods in which they can stay, and read commentary about local traditions and customs.

International customers (or domestic customers traveling internationally) will appreciate that Booking.com allows users to select their preferred language and currency. Once selected, these choices remain consistent on each page until theyā€™re changed

Cost and Discounts

Booking.comā€™s reference page explains how its service works, how it approves contracts with travel companies, and how it makes money. No booking fees are charged to the customer, but the hosts and travel companies pay a commission to Booking.com after the travel has been completed.

Booking.com offers several up-front ways to save money. The first is a free Booking.com account, which enables customers to save their searches, their favorites, and their travel plans, andā€”most importantlyā€”automatically get a percentage off all travel booked through the site. There are several ā€œGenius Levelsā€: the more you use Booking.com, the more perks and discounts you get on your next trips.

The membership is also described as the gateway to ā€œSecret Deals,ā€ indicating that in addition to the automatic percentage off the cost of travel, members will have access to special discount deals as they become available. Such discounts will be marked with a logo once the customer has signed in and begun a search.

Regardless of whether a customer is a member or not, Booking.com offers packages called ā€œGetaway Deals.ā€ These deals provide unusually discounted rates on hotels, if the travel is booked between specific dates.

Beyond its branded discounts, Booking.com provides customers with tools within the individual search functions to compare the costs of the same travel through different airlines, different hotel chains, and different rental car companies to assist customers in choosing the best deal for their travel.

Cancellation or Travel Adjustments

Cancellation and adjustment terms at Booking.com are based on the policies of the individual companies with whom the customer is making a reservation through Booking.com. This means that in some cases customers may be able to cancel or reschedule a booking at no cost until a certain date, after which a cancellation fee will be incurred. In other cases, the reservation may be held with a credit card but not actually charged until the travel occurs and can be canceled at any time. And in some cases the travel cannot be canceled at all, and customers will be charged the full price even if they do not complete the trip. These policies are not set by Booking.com, but the company boasts of its transparency in communicating the policies to the customer in a clear way to avoid confusion.

Customer Service

Customer service is accessible through the question-mark icon located in the top banner on the Booking.com landing page. It appears in other locations, too, wherever there may be additional information available or needed. Customer service information can also be found in a text link at the bottom of each page. Service is available 24/7 to assist before, during, or after travel.

How can the company help if thereā€™s a problem? Booking.com has a contract with each of its service providers. If thereā€™s a problem and a host canā€™t provide a customer with the accommodations or travel that was purchased, it is the responsibility of the host to find alternate and equivalent accommodation. In the event that this is impossible, Booking.com will allow the customer to choose another accommodation or service that is available on its platform at the same cost, or cancel the reservation with a full refund. If payment was made through Booking.com, the company will refund the customer directly, usually within 5 days. If payment was made directly to the service provider, Booking.com will facilitate a refund as quickly as possible. The company has removed service providers who were in breach of their contract, so it takes this commitment seriously.

Putting Booking.com to the Test

In order to evaluate Booking.com as a service, I planned a trip from Chicago to Washington, D.C., for a family of four. As Iā€™m familiar with this particular trip, I was able to evaluate Booking.comā€™s claims and service from an experienced perspective, and I was pleased to discover that planning my travel through Booking.com resulted in some savings. More importantly, the centralization of the reservations services in one location made the planning easier and smoother than jumping around to many different sites and trying to keep track of where Iā€™d looked versus where Iā€™d booked something. Anyone who reviews booking websites knows that the accompanying app is just as important as the site, and Booking.comā€™s app is smooth as silkā€”which is crucial to easier travel. Nobody sprints through an airport logging into their laptop to check a flight time, and so the fact that all my reservations are in one place on my phone, ready to be flashed for admission, took a lot of stress out of travel.

Site Navigation and Experience

I used Booking.com to arrange flights, a rental car, a hotel, and several activities. My first impression of the site was that it was bright, colorful, and easy to navigate. A simple row of clickable links offered to take me directly to the product I wanted to search for, and while I didnā€™t need currency conversion or an additional language, I appreciated how easy it was to make those changes right at the top of the page. The site can be translated into about 45 different languages, so Booking.com is friendly to international travelers or speakers of other languages. As there are a lot of details, terms, and conditions to read carefully when booking travel, the easy option to read in other languages signals that the site welcomes a wide variety of customers and wants speakers of other languages to be able to scrutinize the policies.

Also in the top row is a link to customer service; this is noteworthy because many sites bury the contact information at the bottom of a long scroll down a page. Clicking the question mark at the very top will take customers to either a live chat or telephone option for contacting customer service, which is available 24 hours a day. Iā€™m always happy to see this kind of availability, because Iā€™m concerned that companies who hide their contact information donā€™t really want to hear from their customers. At first glance, the highlighted bar urging customers to sign in to contact customer service suggests that customers canā€™t get help without creating an account, but a quick refocus away from the highlighted bar shows that thereā€™s also an option to continue without signing in. However, that option is only available for customers who have already booked travelā€”youā€™ll need a booking confirmation number and PIN. Thatā€™s fine for those who have questions after theyā€™ve booked, but it does mean that anyone who needs to contact customer service before a purchase will have to register.

Booking.com really, really wants you to sign up for an account. Itā€™s free and requires only an email address and password to createā€”or customers can choose to connect with Google, Facebook, Apple, or a phone. Scrolling up and down pages or opening the app, customers are reminded again and again that there are better deals, bargains, and percentages off if they sign up for an account. The pressure to sign up is fairly continuous until you choose to do so: reminders about deals, savings, and the convenience of tracking your travel in one place are quite convincing, but after the first few notices it begins to feel a little high-pressure. What if I just want to shop around for a bit before I hand over my email to yet another mailing list? The bottom of the screen notes that California residents have the option to click a box preventing Booking.com from selling their information. Itā€™s common knowledge that email address information is bought and sold all the time, but the question of what other information will be sold or tracked is a little unsettling.

Finding the Best Deal

When shopping for a package, Booking.com first guided me to the search for a hotel. I chose the wider D.C. area because we planned to stay for a week, and a quick search revealed that downtown D.C. hotels are more expensive during the business week. I chose filters including free breakfast (which is a great value when traveling with a family), free internet access, a pool, and free parking for our rental car. The free parking isnā€™t a perk to overlook, and itā€™s an outstanding search feature that not all travel sites offer. Parking at a hotel can be a significant cost: Another hotel nearby was charging $50 per day to park in the attached lot, so the fact that Booking.com allows customers to filter out hotels that require those charges is a great cost-saver. Because we know the D.C. area well, we planned to use the rental car on some days and mass transit on others, so paying to park at the hotel and for street parking wherever we were on that day would have been cost-prohibitive.

I selected a Residence Inn by Marriott in Silver Spring, Maryland, as it met my filter requirements and included a microwave and refrigeratorā€”nice touches when staying away from home for a week. Booking.com listed the cancellation policy as free if the reservation was canceled by May 1, but it offered the option of paying an additional $208 to leave the option open to cancel before May 31, just 3 days before my planned travel. Especially when traveling with a group where a member might get sick or suddenly have a change of plans, the free cancellation period and option for an extension of that period is welcome. The photos of the hotel are bright and clear, and while like all online hotel photos theyā€™re pristine, they do offer views of all the parts of the room youā€™d want to see when choosing a place to stay: the bathroom, beds, kitchenette, storage areas, and communal spaces. Theyā€™re enough to see that the space has been updated fairly recently and that the room is large enough for our partyā€™s needs. I clicked ā€œBook now!ā€ and was immediately taken to the available flights.

Because I selected a Flight+Hotel package, the cost per person/total trip cost shown on the hotel screen is the total package costā€”if I select the ā€œRecommendedā€ flight on the next screen.

The flight selection page is quite clear-cut. There are filter boxes to narrow down the number of stops or layovers, sliders to set ranges for takeoff and landing times, and an option to narrow down the airlines offered. Because I selected nonstop flights only, the options were limited to American Airlines, Delta Airlines, Spirit Airlines, and United Airlines. Each flight combination listed the airline, the package discount savings, the length of the flights, and the additional cost per person if I selected a flight other than the one Booking.com recommended as the best value. As I know that the chance of getting my family onto a plane in Chicago at 6 a.m. is slim at best, I was very pleased to see that many of the other options would only add between $5 and $10 per person to the cost, though some of the other combinations would add $40 and up per person.

Then, a snag. The Washington, D.C., area has three major airports, including Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), Dulles International Airport (IAD), and Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI). Having chosen a hotel in Silver Spring, Maryland, I realized that the drive from Dulles would be long, and that BWI is only about 25 minutes from the hotel. Noting that the options provided by Booking.com did not include any flights to or from BWI, I clicked the button to edit the trip details, changed the destination airport to BWI, and clicked Go. Booking.com took me to a screen to confirm my hotel choice, then recalculated quickly. The only problem is that the ā€œRecommendedā€ flight to keep my full package discount was still a flight to and from Dulles. Several more options were to and from DCA (which is closer to Silver Spring than Dulles, but notā€¦close). The first flight listed that would fly in and out of BWI, as I requested, would add $9 per person and would depart Chicago at 5:15 a.m. The next option for BWI (and the only workable one for us, timewise) would add a whopping $32 per person to the package price. While it makes sense for Booking.com to choose the least-expensive flights to make up package dealsā€”and the 6 a.m. flights certainly qualifyā€”I was disappointed that there wasnā€™t really a selection of options to the airport closest to where I wanted to fly. In the end, I adjusted the search and limited it to DCA, splitting the distance, and chose a well-timed departure from Chicago to DCA that will add only $5 per person to our package cost. The package will save me $826 over the cost of booking the flight and hotel separately, so Iā€™ll overlook the fact that the return flight will leave DCA at 6 a.m. after all. Hereā€™s hoping thereā€™s lots of coffee to go at the free hotel breakfast! If not, Booking.com tells me Iā€™ll have a coffee pot in my room for caffeination.

The confirmation page shows the full package price, total savings, and details. It features clickable buttons to change the hotel, the room, the flights, or to upgrade the flight to Economy Fully Refundable tickets for an additional $50 per person. Just below, the screen confirms that I have a standard SUV included in the package with unlimited mileage from Avis, or I can switch to Hertz and get a larger SUV for an extra $2 per day.

On one hand, itā€™s fantastic that customers can make all these adjustments from the confirmation page, rather than having to backtrack through all the individual screens. On the other hand, the number of ā€œclick here to change or upgradeā€ options are a little overwhelming. For anyone who is decision-averse or prone to overthinking, the confirmation page simply offers too many optionsā€”it feels as though you could easily miss an important decision. Also, several times when I tried editing the trip at this stage, the dates I had entered for travel changed suddenly from June 2/June 9 to June1/June 8. Perhaps this is a software glitch, but youā€™ll want to double-check your dates before booking.

In case the package price is stunning, Booking.com provides an option to finance the cost through Affirm, a reputable company that assists customers in spreading out payments for large purchases over several months.

Purchasing the Package

Before payment, a screen requires the entry of each passengerā€™s name, gender, and date of birth. Airlines require that passengers report a gender when purchasing tickets, but most major airlines have added nonbinary gender options to their booking procedures, as several states are now adding to their state-issued identification cards. At the time of this review, Booking.com was only offering the options of male and female, but as the industry shifts toward more inclusive options, perhaps that will also change.

The payment page is clear and straightforward: Billing.com accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover, or customers can spread out payments with Affirm. Itā€™s a little disappointing that PayPal, Venmo, and other online payment services arenā€™t accepted, though. Since many people are moving away from traditional credit cards in favor of online services, this is a limitation, but including Affirm is a good indication that this site is paying attention to trends in payment options. Throughout the checkout process, the travel itinerary is running down the right-hand side of the screen, which is a helpful reminder for those of us who tend to panic a little just before hitting the ā€œPurchaseā€ button.

Before I clicked that Purchase button, however, I stopped and created a Booking.com account. And guess what? The rates on some hotels and flights definitely dropped, and not insignificantly. The Genius Deals, which are flagged with blue labels, and the Secret Deals, which are flagged in green, offered beautiful hotels closer in to the city, though not on my travel dates and not including some of the amenities I selected. Some packages offered truly significant savings. Unfortunately, the price of the package I had chosen only dropped from $879 per person to $874 per personā€”a small savings over a week-long stay in exchange for my email address and some personal data. In addition, the free cancellation date on the hotel shifted forward to June 1, a date that nonmembers can only access for an additional $208. However, the same flights I booked for an extra $5 per person as a nonmember were listed as the Recommended flights for the package as a member, so there were savings on that front as well.

But at What Cost?

What was troubling in this experience was how difficult it was to replicate the costs. I built the same package (same dates, same hotel and flights, same car) and found different prices each time. The structure of the total cost changedā€”sometimes the hotel was less costly in one build but the flights were moreā€”always ending with a total package price that was very similar to the other attempts. This is a bit confusing for customers trying to shop and compare costs, but it may be explained by shifting demands at the hotels and airlines in real time. The true benefit of membership appears to be the deals and packages that are offered as Genius and Getaway Deals, as opposed to an overall discount on all travel purchases.

While we wonā€™t be using one, I checked out the option to reserve an Airport Taxi. Booking.com is clearly taking on Uber and Lyft with this service, and itā€™s a great option. Travelers can choose the size of the vehicle that will pick them up, request special services such as child seats, assistance for passengers who may need help getting in and out of the vehicle, and other amenities. Entering the flight number allows the driver to track the flightā€™s progress and arrive for pickup at precisely the correct time, and the price is preset in the booking and can be paid ahead. The service appears to be extremely convenient and well thought out.

And donā€™t forget the option to purchase tickets and passes to activities and destinations during travel! The Attractions tab provides a huge range of activities, including walking and bus tours, private tours, dinner cruises, and interactive scavenger hunts. Most of the museums in Washington, D.C., are free, but quite a few companies offer guided tours that can be purchased through Booking.com. The Attractions tab in other locations includes museum entry tickets, theater tickets, and entrance to other destinations. Your account will keep a record of your itinerary, and you can use the Booking.com app to show the purchased tickets or print them before you leave.

How Helpful Is Customer Service?

I used the online contact form to ask a question about child seat booking with an Airport Taxi. I sent the question at 9:10 on a Monday evening and received an email in response in less than 10 minutes, directing me cheerfully to the taxi-specific contact form or inviting me to call the taxi hotline. While navigating to the taxi help area (which I had not previously seen) by clicking the link included in the email, I found the answer to my question in an extensive FAQ section. When they say that customer service is available 24 hours a day, they mean it. It is enormously reassuring to know that when traveling youā€™ll have a person to talk to or a prompt response if you have a question, a concern, or something has gone wrong.

For Your Informationā€¦

In addition to booking travel, Booking.com serves as a repository of useful information for travelers.

  • TravelTalk is an online community of travelers sharing information, answering each otherā€™s questions, and sharing experiences, which is hosted on Booking.comā€™s site.
  • Links to local governments with information about the culture, traditions, and travel considerations is especially useful for those traveling overseas.
  • A helpful page provides health information for travelers, including the requirements and restrictions on traveling to and from international destinations.
  • A banner directs those who are fleeing danger or violence to links that can help them, providing an outstanding (and free) public service.

Overall, Booking.com was a pleasant experience and left me feeling as though Iā€™d done solid research, chosen from excellent options, and booked my travel in a time-and cost-effective manner. I especially like that one website will have all my travel plans in one location; the app is also very streamlined and will be much more convenient to use while traveling than digging through emails looking for confirmation numbers and flight times.

While there were some glitches, including flight times that seemed incomplete, the randomly switching travel dates, and the inability to replicate a package cost, overall the pricing is reasonable and the interface is good. The membership offers a clear benefit if youā€™re not locked into travel dates or specific locationsā€”you can really save a lot of money there.

Booking.com Reviews by Customers

Customer reviews are decidedly mixed. Reviewers at Consumer Affairs average 3.2 out of 5 stars, with excellent ratings citing easy and clear booking procedures, outstanding customer service, and great accommodation options. Poor reviews at Consumer Affairs, sitejabber, TrustPilot , and the Better Business Bureau all seem to zero in on problems with cancellations and refunds. Customers who are more comfortable communicating in Spanish can search for ā€œBooking.com reseƱasā€ and find similar results. Reviewers felt there was a disconnect in the chain between the service provider, Booking.com, and the customer, and sometimes lengthy delays or refusals of refunds. This type of complaint appears to be common among travel service platforms; other booking reviews indicate the same kind of problems exist throughout the industry. Some of the complaints were simply a result of the customer misreading or failing to read one of Booking.comā€™s policies, while others were valid concerns. To its credit, every complaint on the Better Business Bureauā€™s website included a prompt response from Booking.comā€™s customer service team either explaining the policy decision, requesting more information to begin an investigation, or apologizing for a mishandled situation.

How Booking.com Stacks Up to the Competition

Compared to other travel platforms, reserving travel on Booking.com was equal or slightly less expensive. While some competitors had more offerings, especially when choosing flights, Booking.comā€™s interface was smoother and easier to navigate, and the fact that the costs listed as a customer moves through the process include taxes and fees is helpful when making choices. Other platforms donā€™t always include this information, so a customer could blithely plan an entire trip, then get to the final confirmation page and discover hundreds or thousands of dollars in additional fees and taxes.

Including the nontraditional lodgings and professional hosts alongside large hotels and resorts was a strong move to compete with popular companies such as Airbnb and Vrbo, and incorporating the taxi reservation system into the complete travel platform at Booking.com keeps all the travel arrangements in one place, rather than customers needing to remember to call an Uber or Lyft. The services themselves are similar, but by centralizing travel planning into one platform online or through the app, Booking.com has made it easy for customers to keep everything together.

Should You Use Booking.com?

Is the website a little busy? Sure. But many people will like the callouts and bold colors and enjoy the different services they emphasize. Are there some ā€œglitchesā€ in the site? Here and there. Booking.com is a great option that will help you shop for, select, reserve, and centralize your transportation, lodging, and activities during travel. Itā€™s important to make sure that customers donā€™t blow off the Terms and Conditions and just click the boxā€”many, if not most, of the customer complaints focused on disagreements over cancellation, reschedule, and refund policies, so itā€™s critical to understand them before booking.

Booking.comā€™s platform takes a task that many people find frustrating and makes it enjoyable. Itā€™s easier to get excited about planning a vacation when there arenā€™t 30 tabs open in two browsers as the travelers try to compare hotel rooms, airfare, and activitiesā€”Booking.com does it in just one tab, and does it well.

We independently reviewed this service by weighing the companyā€™s claims against first-hand experience with its site and professionals. However, due to factors such as franchising, human error, and more, please note that experiences with this company may vary.

Is Booking.com Legit, Safe & Reliable?

Is Booking.com Safe & Reliable?

Wondering whether or not Booking.com is a legitimate, safe, and reliable choice? Weā€™ve got you covered.

This review and guide will tell you everything you need to know about Booking.comā€™s popular online travel agency services.

Weā€™ll cover everything from credit card safety to the reliability of booking hotels, flights, and everything in between.

Is Booking.com Safe?

Booking.com is one of the largest, most respected online travel agencies (or OTAā€™s) in the world and is absolutely a safe choice. It has an A+ rating from the BBB and its parent company, Booking Holdings, also owns a number of other well-known sites, including Priceline.

There are more than 1.5 million rooms booked every day through Booking.com, so you can rest assured that youā€™re not dealing with a shady, back-alley operation. The site actually has the highest daily traffic of any OTA out there.

Credit card information and personal data is secure in the system. And unlike less scrupulous sites, Booking.com doesnā€™t sell or rent personal data to any third party companies.

Booking actually does a pretty good job with their policies and processes. You can read a full breakdown on their privacy policy page .

They also made a good video that summarizes all of it:

Booking.com only collects your info in order to reserve and book your room with the hotel (or other accommodation) itself. The Booking.com service is essentially just a very efficient portal to manage your reservation directly with the hotel.

In certain circumstances, reserving a room with Booking.com can often be a safer bet than direct-booking a hotel. This is especially true in regard to international travel, when your desired accommodation provider may not have a reliable website or system.

Is Booking.com Reliable?

The Booking.com service is very reliable and efficient. Matter of fact, itā€™s considered to be one of the best in the industry. Unless youā€™re dealing with a large hotel with a sophisticated online booking system, youā€™re almost always going to be better off using a reliable OTA like Booking if the price is right.

This process is almost always very reliable, along with being quick and efficient. (Weā€™ve used Booking.com countless times in countless countries and have never had a real problem.)

Even though the vast majority of customers love the Booking.com service, thatā€™s not to say that there arenā€™t those who have had any issues with their booking process. Hiccups are possible, no matter what service you use, but we can confidently say that Booking.com is usually not at fault.

In the rare event that there is an issue with a hotel reserved through Booking.com, itā€™s usually due to a problem on the hotel systemā€™s end.

Many people donā€™t realize that Booking.com is simply serving as an in-between for consumers and accommodations. When you make a reservation, Booking.com is simply handling it for you and passing along your information to the destination hotel.

Hotels, homes, vacation rentals, and other accommodation types use the site to list their properties and then to manage their listings. Itā€™s the hotel that sets the price and details for Booking.com to display.

For the smoothest process, we highly recommend that you always call to verify directly with the hotel after making the reservation through Booking.com. This will give you some extra peace of mind to know that the hotel has received all of the correct dates, payment, and additional information for your stay.

How Does Booking.com Make Money?

Booking.com makes their money from charging set rates to the hotels and accommodations that use the site to list their properties. However, Booking doesnā€™t actually receive the percentage until a guest arrives to the hotel for their stay. Canceled reservations result in no profit to Booking.com.

Typically, the base rates charged by Booking.com to hotels is 15%. This can vary, depending on the level of partnership the hotel has with booking. Hotels can upgrade their membership to receive more favorable rates.

Full Review (Features, Tools & More)

Hotels & accommodations.

No question, Booking.comā€™s biggest asset is its outstanding accommodations reservation service. The sheer number of hotels, homes, B&Bā€™s, and more combined with a huge list of filterable features make it one of the best in the biz.

Listings are shown in a column that can be sorted by price, reviews, stats, and even their distance from downtown.

You can also use a map view we included earlier in the post. It uses Google mapsā€™ underlying software and works better than the map views on many other travel sites.

But the best Booking.com feature for finding the right hotel has to be the massive list of available filters. There are quite a few of them, making hyper-specific searches quick and easy.

Hereā€™s a quick guide to all of the filters you can apply to your accommodation search:

  • Budget: Filters results by price range.
  • Star Rating: Filters results by the propertyā€™s star rating.
  • Distance from City Center: Filters results by the propertyā€™s distance from city center or downtown area.
  • Online Payment: Filters results to show which propertyā€™s allow the use of third-party online payment processor (like Paypal)
  • Fun Things to Do: Filters results to show properties that offer access to extra activities like fitness centers, bike rentals or hiking trails.
  • Availability: Filters results to only show properties with availability on your chosen dates.
  • Deals: Filters results to show properties that are currently offering deals or special pricing.
  • 24-Hour Front Desk: Filters results to show properties that have a dedicated 24/7 front desk.
  • Reservation Policy: Filters results by which properties have a free cancellation policy or donā€™t require a prepayment at the time of booking.
  • Beach Access: Filters results to show which properties have beachfront (or lakefront) access.
  • Meals: Filters results to show properties that include breakfast only, breakfast and dinner, or simply have kitchen facilities for preparing your own meals.
  • Stay Type: Filters results to show properties by the stay experience.
  • Property Type: Filters results by type of accommodation. Hotels, apartments, hostels, guesthouses, bed and breakfasts, etc.
  • Landmarks: Filters results to show properties that are near prominent landmarks in the area. This could be parts of the city, attractions, geological features, and more.
  • Bed Preference: Filters results to show properties that offer a specific type of bed layout. Especially useful in Europe where beds can sometimes be confusing to outside travelers .
  • Review Score: Filters results by the review scores given by real Booking.com customers with verified stays.
  • Facilities: Filters results to show listings with property features like on-site restaurants, non-smoking rooms, pet friendly rooms, free wifi, free parking, swimming pools, room service, and more.
  • Room Facilities: Filters results to show listings that feature certain room-specific features like kitchens, bathtubs, flatscreen televisions, coffee makers, etc.
  • District: Filters results to show properties in the different city districts and neighborhoods. For example, in New York City you could choose things like ā€œManhattanā€, ā€œTimes Squareā€, ā€œSohoā€, etc.
  • Facilities for Disabled Guests: Filters results to show properties that feature disability-friendly features like wheelchair accessibility, toilet grab rails, lowered sinks, etc.
  • Chain: Filters results to show properties that belong to a specific hotel chain.
  • Room Accessibility: Filters results to show properties with specific accessibility features like ground floor rooms, roll-in showers, elevator accessible upper rooms, etc.

As you can see, Booking gives you a ton of options for laser-focusing your search and pinpointing the perfect properties. You really canā€™t beat that level of detail for finding the exact type of accommodation you have in mind.

Individual Hotel Pages are Equally Intuitive

Booking.comā€™s individual property pages do a great job of providing you a ton of information in an easy-to-read way. Thereā€™s a lot of substance without too much clutter.

Whether youā€™re on mobile or on desktop, youā€™ll see a simple layout with pictures, descriptions, reviews, points of interest, maps, and more.

Most property listing are very well-executed. The only times youā€™ll really encounter a lackluster listing is in the case of a more obscure property.

Keep in mind that these listings are controlled by the property itself. Pictures and travel information for the property are provided to Booking.com. What you see on the screen is generally straight from the hotel itself.

Also, itā€™s important to make note that pricing on Booking.com is displayed as a trip total, not the nightly rate. For example, a 3 night stay at a $100/night hotel will be shown simply as $300.

Definitely keep that pricing style in mind when youā€™re price shopping around the web. Itā€™s not uncommon for unfamiliar travelers to accidentally dismiss Booking.comā€™s listings as too expensive because they thought the trip grand total was actually the nightly rate.

Price Match Guarantee for Accommodations

Donā€™t forget about Booking.comā€™s price match guarantee. Hotels and other accommodations are the only area in which this is offered.

All you need to do is submit a competitor siteā€™s lower-priced listing to Booking.com via the ā€œFound this room cheaper somewhere elseā€ link on your confirmation page.

This is an outstanding feature, especially with how flexible it is.

You can submit a price match claim within 24 hours of your check-in date. Just make sure that everything is identical between your Booking.com reservation and the lower-priced listing youā€™ve found elsewhere.

The only caveat is that the cheaper listing must be readily available for Booking.com to see when reviewing your claim. So be quick to jump on the opportunities when you see them!

Cancellation Policies

Booking.com doesnā€™t have a single standard cancellation policy. Each individual accommodation property is able to set their own.

This is standard for most OTAā€™s, so nothing really notable here.

Just make sure to read the details before you book. You can also filter the search results to only show properties with free cancellation. That will save you some time if you know that you require that extra flexibility.

The Flights portion of Booking.com is pretty straightforward. Itā€™s powered by sister-company Kayak and is very much in line with what youā€™d expect from any good online travel agency flight service.

Booking.com Flights Search

Flight search result pages are laid out cleanly with all pertinent information displayed in an easy-to-digest way. There are clear indicators for things like layovers and whether or not checked baggage is included in the fare.

The nice thing about using Booking.com for flights is that, unlike with Priceline, youā€™ll often be sent directly to an airlineā€™s website to actually complete the booking.

And just like it is with the Hotels search filters, the Flights search filters on Booking.com are the best feature.

Hereā€™s the breakdown of flight search filters:

  • Stops: Filters results by the number of stops/layovers during the flight.
  • Times: Filters results by the desired windows of time youā€™d like to depart and land. Round trip flights will include options for both flight legs.
  • Duration: Filters results by the entire duration of a flight leg. Nonstop flights will obviously be the lowest, with layover increasing duration as you work your way up.
  • Airports: Filters results by specific departure/landing airports. You can also check an additional to keep your departure/return airport the same.
  • Airlines: Filters results by flights offered by specific airlines.
  • Alliance: Filters results by flights offered within specific airline alliances.
  • Booking Sites: Filters results by which sites youā€™ll be sent to in order to actually book a flight. This is a useful feature if youā€™d prefer to only see flight listings that are bookable directly with airlines, rather than third-party agency sites.
  • Cabin: Filters results by level of cabin (Basic Economy, First Class, etc.)
  • Flight Quality: Filters results by flight classifications (Red-eye flights, Hack Fare sites, Wi-Fi flights, etc.)
  • Layover Airports: Filters results by airports that can be used for layovers.
  • Aircraft: Filters results by type of plane (Narrow-body jet, Wide-body jet, Regional Jet, Turbo Prop, etc.)
  • Model: Filters results by specific models of aircraft.
  • Price: Filters results by a set price range.

Thereā€™s also a handy ā€œOur Adviceā€ widget at the top of the Flights search result page. Keep an eye on this to see whether or not Booking.com recommends buying now or waiting.

This recommendation is based off of price projections and history. Itā€™s not foolproof, but itā€™s a nice feature to give you some extra confidence about whether or not itā€™s the right time to buy a flight.

Rental Cars

Car rentals shown on Booking.com are actually powered and booked by Rentalcars.com, which is another Booking Holdings brand.

Itā€™s mostly self-explanatory, but you should take care to keep an eye on the pricing. Youā€™ll notice in most cases that the list price and the total price will be reflected by two different amounts.

The first price you see doesnā€™t account for taxes and extra fees, so make sure to look at the total price at the bottom of the listing.

Overall, the process is okay, but weā€™d usually opt to go straight to Rentalcars.com or another site before going to Booking.com for car rentals.

Airport Taxis

A lesser known feature of Booking.com, the Airport Taxis tool can be a good choice if you want to automatically sync up all of your transportation in one fell swoop.

Booking.com Airport Taxis

All you have to do is book your taxi through the Booking.com system and it will set you up with a driver. That driver will meet you upon arrival and take you to the taxi.

The best thing about this service is that the driver is monitoring your flight. No need to worry if youā€™re delayed- the driver will adjust automatically.

This is a great way to skip the taxi lines at the airport and get out of dodge as soon as you land.

Taxi rates listed here are up front, so what you see is what you get. No hidden fees or extra charges. And the cancellation policy is also favorable, allowing you to cancel for free in most cases within 24 hours of your scheduled pick-up time.

Final Thoughts

If youā€™re looking for a one-stop site for finding a seemingly unlimited number of great hotels, apartments, vacation homes and more, itā€™s really hard to beat Booking.com. Theyā€™re absolutely at the very top of the accommodations game.

The high volume of searchable properties all over the world is awesome as it is, but Bookingā€™s search filters really put a bow on the whole process. Itā€™s extremely useful to have such a wide range of adjustable parameters to zero in on your perfect hotel.

For everything else (flights, rental cars, taxis), Booking.com also does a pretty good job. All of these secondary features are routed through other services owns by Booking Holdings, but that really doesnā€™t make them any less efficient.

We firmly believe that Booking.com offers enough value that it should always be checked when price-shopping a trip. Itā€™s a great tool with tons of properties and competitive prices.

Anyone on the fence about the companyā€™s trustworthiness and reliability can breathe easy. The company is about as transparent as it gets for such a massive presence in the world of online travel.

Enjoy your travels!

Hopeless.

What is Booking.com?

Booking.com is an online travel platform that allows travelers to search and compare prices for a wide range of accommodations, from budget-friendly hostels to luxury resorts. It functions as a third-party site/middleman for those seeking to book hotels and other travel arrangements.

Is Booking.com Legit?

Yes, Booking.com is a legitimate travel booking platform with over 20 million accommodation listings. Founded in 1996 and headquartered in Amsterdam, Booking.com is owned by Booking Holdings, a publicly traded company on the Nasdaq that also owns other well-known travel brands such as Priceline and Agoda .

After over 25 years in business, Booking.com has established itself as one of the top travel booking sites, thanks to its user-friendly interface and wide range of accommodations.

While Booking.com is generally a reliable platform, it doesn’t guarantee a completely smooth and issue-free experience. As a seasoned traveler with over a decade of experience using Booking.com, I can attest to the fact that even with a legit site like Booking.com, there may be occasional negative experiences – which I will share in more detail below.

Generally, this should not deter you from considering the platform for your travel needs. With a little bit of research and due diligence, you may find that Booking.com is a reliable and trustworthy choice for booking your travel.

How Does Booking.com Work?

Booking.com is an online travel booking platform that allows you to search and compare prices for a wide range of accommodations and travel options. To use the platform, you can easily find your desired accommodations and travel arrangements through the search bar.

how does booking.com work

To search for accommodations, you can enter your desired location, dates of travel and any other preferences such as the type of accommodations or the number of guests. Booking.com will then display a list of available options that match your search criteria, along with the prices and any available discounts. You can then compare the options and choose the one that best fits your needs.

If you check the box to say “I’m traveling for work”, Booking.com will show you more hotel options with business centers, printers, and free Wifi.

Once you’ve found your desired accommodations or travel arrangements, you can book them directly on the Booking.com website or app . Payment can be made using a credit card, debit card, or other payment methods accepted by Booking.com. After the booking is complete, you’ll receive a confirmation email with the details of your reservation.

Booking.com also offers a loyalty program, which allows you to earn rewards and benefits for booking through the platform. Members of the Genius program receive special discounts, flexible cancellation policies, and other perks.

How Does Booking.com’s Loyalty Program Work?

Booking.com’s loyalty program, called Genius, rewards frequent users of the platform with discounts and other perks. There are three tiers of the Genius program: Genius Level I, II, and III.

If you complete 5 stays within 2 years with Booking.com, you will reach Genius Level 2 and unlock exclusive perks such as a 10 to 15% discount on hotel rates, free breakfasts on select stays, and free room upgrades on select stays.

By continuing to be a loyal guest and reaching Genius Level 3, you will unlock even more benefits such as a 20% discount on hotel rates, free breakfast on all stays, free room upgrades on all stays, and priority support on all bookings.

To join the Genius program, simply create a Booking.com account and start booking through the platform. As you make more bookings and reach higher spending thresholds, you will automatically move up through the tiers and unlock additional discounts and perks.

How Does Booking.com Make Money?

Booking.com is known for offering a wide range of accommodation options at competitive prices. However, some travelers may question the legitimacy of the platform due to its seemingly low prices. To understand why Booking.com is a legitimate choice for booking travel, it is important to understand how the company makes money.

Booking.com obtains discounted rates for purchasing hotel rooms in bulk, which allows it to offer competitive prices to its customers. The company uses its own algorithms to determine the selling price of these rooms, balancing the need to offer attractive prices with the need to earn a profit.

In addition to its bulk purchasing strategy, Booking.com also operates on a commission-based model through partnerships with various accommodation providers. When a customer books a hotel through the platform, Booking.com earns a commission from the property owner for referring the customer. This commission is a percentage of the booking price and varies depending on the type of property and location.

Finally, Booking.com generates revenue through advertising and the sale of travel-related products and services. It may display ads on its website and app and offer additional services such as car rentals and airport transfers through partnerships and affiliate programs with other companies in the travel industry.

Booking.com Review

As someone who has used Booking.com for over 10 years and reached the highest level of the platform’s loyalty program, Genius Level 3, I have had a mix of positive and negative experiences.

One instance that stands out was when I booked a 4-star beach hotel in Playa del Carmen on Booking.com based on its great reviews, only to arrive and find that the room was moldy and had a disgusting smell. It was far from the 4-star quality that I had expected, and I would not even consider it a 2-star hotel.

Another time, I arrived at a hotel on a road trip in California and was told that the hotel is completely booked and my reservation is not in the system. This was a frustrating and inconvenient experience that could have been avoided if the booking had been properly managed.

I also had a negative experience with Booking.com in Vietnam when I arrived at a hotel after 5 PM and was told that my booking had been canceled because it was only held until 5 PM. I had not been made aware of this time limitation on the Booking.com platform, and it was frustrating to have to find last-minute accommodations.

While I have found some great deals with Booking.com over the years and can confirm Booking.com is legit, these negative instances have led me to switch to other platforms such as Priceline and Agoda for cheaper prices and better services.

Booking.com Pros and Cons

One of the main advantages of using Booking.com is its user-friendly interface. The website is easy to navigate and allows users to search for accommodations based on their location, budget, and desired amenities.

Another pro of Booking.com is its wide selection of accommodations. The platform partners with a large number of hotels, vacation rentals, and other types of accommodations, so users have plenty of options to choose from. This can be especially helpful for travelers who are looking for specific types of accommodations or who are trying to book a stay in a particular location.

Booking.com also offers a rewards program for frequent users. Members of the program can earn points for every booking they make, which can then be redeemed for discounts on future bookings or other perks.

The platform also offers a best price guarantee policy, which means that if you find a lower price, Booking.com will match the price and give you a discount. In addition, the platform has a 24/7 customer service team that can assist with any questions or issues you may have.

However, there are also some cons to using Booking.com. One issue is that refunds can be delayed. If you need to cancel a booking or make changes to your reservation, it may take some time to process your request and receive a refund.

I have also found that customer reviews on Booking.com may not always be reliable. It’s possible that some reviews may be fake or biased, so I’d recommend you double-check with Tr ipAdvisor .

Another con of Booking.com is that the price you first see is not the final price of the booking. There will be taxes and fees, making a hotel that originally seems to be $230 suddenly go up to like $300. These can add up and increase the overall cost of your stay. And even after you have paid that, you may still have resort fees or environmental fees that will be collected at check-in.

Overall, it’s important to carefully review the terms and conditions of your booking to understand any additional charges that may apply.

Booking.com Pros

  • User-friendly Interface
  • 24/7 Customer Service
  • Rewards Program

Booking.com Cons

  • Reviews may be unreliable
  • Not always the best deals
  • Unexpected Fees

What You Should Do Before Using Booking.com

Before using Booking.com, there are several things you should consider to ensure a smooth and successful booking experience.

1. Read the cancellation and refund policies carefully

These policies can vary depending on the hotel and the terms of your reservation. Many hotels allow you to cancel free of charge at least 24 hours before your stay, but Booking.com also offers non-refundable hotel options at a discounted price. Make sure you understand your rights and obligations in case you need to cancel or change your booking.

2. Check the hotel’s location and amenities

Research the safety of the area in which the hotel is located, and consider the additional safety measures offered by high-end and all-inclusive resorts.

3. Cross-check the hotel reviews

I have had a fair share of negative experiences with Booking.com because the reviews do not reflect the current conditions of the hotel. Before you book the hotel, I’d recommend you double the check the reviews on Tr ipAdvisor .

These reviews can provide valuable insights into the hotels. By reading reviews, you can get a sense of the level of service, the quality of the accommodations, and any potential issues or concerns that other travelers have experienced.

And a lot of the time, if you click the “View Deal” through TripAdvisor, it will show you better prices available, not only on Booking.com but also on other trusted travel booking websites.

Conclusion: Is Booking.com Legit & Worth It?

Although I have had some negative experiences with the platform, I can confirm that Booking.com is legit. It offers a wide range of accommodations at competitive prices. With its easy-to-use interface, reliable customer reviews, and various payment options, Booking.com can be a convenient choice for many travelers.

However, it is important to carefully read the cancellation and refund policies, check the location and amenities of the hotel, and read reviews from other travelers before making a booking. It is also a good idea to use TripAdvisor to cross-check reviews and compare prices with other travel booking sites.

Whether Booking.com is worth it or not ultimately depends on your personal preferences and needs. If you are careful and do your research, Booking.com can be a valuable resource for finding and booking travel accommodations. Alternatively, Priceline and Agoda are also good options to consider for booking travel accommodations.

What Is Booking.com?

Founded in 1996, Booking.com Ā is an online travel agency started by computer scientist Geert-Jan Bruinsma.

Later in 2005, Priceline Group, which is the company behind various travel websites like Agoda, acquired Booking.com.

Since then, Booking.com has become Pricelineā€™s major revenue driver, making it even more popular worldwide. The platformā€™s popularity inspired Pricelineā€™s rebranding to Booking Holdings in 2018.

Even today, Booking.com remains one of the leading and most popular travel agencies globally. In fact, Booking.com is hailed as one of the largest and best online travel agencies worldwide in 2023, according to LinkedIn .

Booking.com helps travelers explore hassle-free and with ease. The platform offers accommodations, attractions, and transport services.

Through Booking.com, you can plan your next getaway or destination, wherever it may be around the world.

From breathtaking activities like skydiving to cave explorations and eco-tourism, there are many things to see and do, thanks to Booking.com.

2. Accommodations

Travelers can book hotels, apartments or condominium stays, and villa rentals.

The platform has over two million listings, including private listings from individual contractors seeking to earn extra money by renting out their property.

3. Transport Services

Apart from accommodations, the platform offers transportation services essential for your vacation getaway, including flights, airport taxis, and even vehicle rentals.

Guests can also choose between private or public vehicle transportation.

Booking.com is a platform that puts together contractors/service providers, third-party aggregators, and travelers seeking to buy services.

This means that Booking.com doesnā€™t sell or advertise its products or services. Rather, itā€™s a platform that earns a commission from service providers for every successful booking or purchase using the agency model .

Hereā€™s how it works:

Both service providers and guests must first sign up for a Booking.com account. They need to provide their personal information and passwords too.

After signing up for an account, service providers can list their property or services, including the respective information and prices. Next, the listing appears on the platform and becomes accessible to users.

The users, on the other hand, must be at least 16 years old to create an account. Upon account creation and adding payment details, users can now make their bookings online by:

  • Searching for desired accommodations that you can filter by category (price, location, etc.)
  • Selecting available dates
  • Following booking instructions and settling online payment

Common Questions to Understand

Whether youā€™re making your first online booking or purchasing a service from Booking.com, here are some of the most important things that you need to know:

Due to its partnerships with many service providers, Booking.com offers competitive rates that are relatively cheaper than other online travel sites.

Booking.com also offers Low Price Guarantee and massive discounts or perks, allowing users to save more while traveling.

Low Price Guarantee

Booking.com has a Low Price Guarantee, where you can apply for a refund if you find your reservation cheaper on other booking websites.Ā In return, Booking.com refunds you the price difference.

For example, you have a $300 worth hotel room reservation from Booking.com but found the exact accommodation for only $270 on another website.

You can contact Booking.com at least 24 hours before your check-in date, ask for a refund, and provide the link to the said offer. The offer must be available upon checking for you to avail of the $30 refund.

Note that your offer shouldnā€™t be labeled as ā€œ Partner Offer ā€ to make you eligible. The offer should also meet the following criteria:

  • The other offer must be the same as your reservation from Booking.com (same property and accommodation type)
  • The check-in and check-out dates for the offer must coincide with your reservation
  • The cancellation policy and conditions of the offer must be the same as your current reservation
  • The offer mustnā€™t be part of a loyalty or rewards program

Loyalty Program and Discounts

Booking.com offers many discounts and perks, especially to loyal platform users. This makes bookings cheaper compared to other online travel agencies.

For example, you can qualify for the Genius program  without paying a single penny for membership fees. All you have to do is sign up for an account and complete the required number of stays within a specific period.

After that, you can avail benefits like the following:

  • Up to 20% discounts
  • Room upgrades
  • Free accommodation
  • Priority support

Note that these discounts and perks only apply to the Genius programā€™s participating partners and service providers.

Yes. Booking.com is a commission-based e-commerce platform that earns by charging partners and property hosts.

Unlike other travel websites, Booking.com only charges its partner hosts. Depending on the property type, the commission fee that Booking.com charges is 10-20% per successful booking.

Apart from the commission fee, Booking.com may also charge its partners or service providers payout costs, depending on the providerā€™s preferred payout method.

The cost for virtual credit card payouts varies per credit card company. Partners or service providers will be charged between 1.1% and 3.1% for bank transfer payouts. Note that additional charges also vary per location since processing fees vary.

Meanwhile, the processing fee consists of the following:

  • Charge from the payment service provider
  • Scheme Fees
  • Interchange fees

The first step to every successful booking is searching for desired service or destination.

After searching and evaluating several deals and accommodations, you may be ready to select your top pick. You need to be logged in with your Booking.com account to confirm a reservation.

Indicate how many days or nights you plan to stay and how many people you plan to stay with. After finishing the booking process, you need to enter your card or payment details.

Once the booking is confirmed, youā€™ll receive a confirmation email from Booking.com. The confirmation email includes your confirmation number and pin code.

You can appeal to their customer service team if you fail to receive a booking confirmation.

Booking.com is a legitimate e-commerce website that operates globally. Here are some points that prove itā€™s a legitimate entity:

  • The company is VAT registered: The company pays taxes to the Dutch government, and you can look them up with this VAT registration number: NL805734958B01.

Booking.com is a reliable company where you can book transportation and accommodation services for your vacation.

You can save more by using Booking.com through their promo codes, discounts, and loyalty perks instead of DIY-travels which can be inconvenient.

At the same time, the platform offers a simple and easy-to-navigate interface that makes searching for deals easy.

The platform also features a Help Centre that offers 24/7 customer service. You can also find useful information from their FAQs  page, like cancellation policies and payment conditions.

When it comes to refunds, Booking.com guarantees money back for canceled bookings as long as itā€™s within the scope of policies.

Booking.com is a safe platform you can trust not just with your travel and accommodation needs but with your details as well.

You can trust that sensitive details like your credit card information aren’t shared with the platform’s partners or third parties without an agreement. This is because Booking.com is compliant with the Dutch Data Protection Authority.

According to the platform, they only provide partner companies with crucial information necessary to complete a booking.

The platform users can also trust that their personal data is safeguarded from unauthorized access.

Customers also love that the website and app are easy to use.

Even if the problem is on the service providerā€™s end, users share how Booking.com is prompt in addressing concerns and refunding.

They also express their appreciation for kind colleagues and the inclusive work environment.

Booking.com got a 4.1 Glassdoor rating. According to their employees, the work environment and the benefit packages the company offers are favorable.

They also achieved a work-life balance while working alongside great colleagues.

Why Are People Worried About Using Booking.com?

Here are some of the negative Booking.com remarks from users and employees:

  • Unannounced or last-minute cancellations: Many users are disappointed when they arrive at the accommodation sites, and property hosts would tell them that their booking is canceled or invalid due to unavailability.
  • No refunds: Despite not getting the service they paid for due to the service providerā€™s discretion, users claim they didnā€™t receive proper refunds.
  • Poor customer support: Many users complain about Booking.comā€™s lack of helpful responses to their issues.
  • Dirty rooms: Many users are disappointed that the places they rent out differ from what was advertised.
  • Poor management: The major complaint of Booking.com employees is the terrible management and unfair treatment.
  • Low promotion opportunities: There are little to no promotions when working for Booking.com.

With just a 1.0 rating at ConsumerAffairs , Booking.com is under fire because users complain about rundown accommodation sites far from what the platform advertises.

One user reports that the accommodation they got was dirty and smelled terrible, not to mention that they donā€™t abide by minimum health standards.

Booking.com got a 1.2 rating at TrustPilot . Users complain about last-minute cancellations, not receiving confirmation emails, and poorly maintained rooms.

Some users share their experience with not getting a Genius discount as promised. Some users were not able to get refunds on flights that got canceled at the last minute.

Indeed reviewers are most concerned about poor HR management and neglected work policies.

Employees, especially customer service representatives, also share unrealistic company expectations resulting in a stressful work environment.

Booking.com employees share about rare promotion opportunities and low salary increases even after promotion.

When it comes to refund guarantees, the guestā€™s entitlement depends on the payment process they signed up for.

For example, if the guest organized their payment with Booking.com and did not arrange it directly with the service provider, Booking.com will ensure to refund the guest within five working daysā€”as long as it meets the right conditions.

However, if the guest arranges the payment directly with the service provider, the refund terms are under the providerā€™s conditions. Despite that, guests can still reach Booking.com, and the customer service representative will assist them.

Itā€™s also essential to note that refund and cancellation policy varies per service provider. So before you agree to any payment terms, review the given conditions and policies first.

Booking.com only acts as an intermediary between the guests and the service providers, so refund and cancellation terms can vary.

Does Booking.com Offer Customer Service?

Booking.com has a 24/7 customer service hotline accessible through their Help Centre .

From the Help Centre, you can get help with your booking by calling their active hotline number or messaging customer support.

You can reach their customer service hotline at +44 20 3320 2625 for urgent concerns. Note that additional charges may apply, especially for international callers.

You can also message their customer service if you have queries or non-urgent concerns.

Users can access the FAQs page and request to resend their confirmation details too.

Booking.com is a legally operating online travel agency registered with the Dutch government.

They have a headquarters based in Amsterdam, active contact information, VAT registration, and other compliance certificates that justify their legitimacy.

While itā€™s a legit e-commerce platform, Booking.com isnā€™t in control of the booking or travel experience to which guests may be subject.

Booking.com only acts as a middleman between service providers, their party aggregators, and guests.

That said, the guests are responsible for assessing services visible on the platform, including the policies and conditions that entail these.

Thus, any inconvenience or delays guests may experience at the accommodation site or service are no longer under the platformā€™s control.

Is Booking.com Reliable For Flights? (Updated 2023)

Avatar

Online travel agencies like Booking.com offer a one-stop shopping experience for hotels, rental cars, taxis, flights, and excursions.

Booking.com is available in multiple languages and currencies, making it easy to find discounted rates on travel-related reservations worldwide.

As one of the worldā€™s largest online travel agencies, Booking.com provides travelers with a reliable service for making domestic and international flight reservations. However, flights listed on Booking.com are provided through a third-party site. This means Booking relies on its partners for routes, pricing, and resolving customer complaints.

This article explains how Booking.com works for flights and offers some tips for making Booking an easy and reliable way to travel.

How Does Booking.com Work for Flights?

Close-up shot of Booking.com website on a screen.

When it comes to flights, Booking.com is actually just a listing service , providing a place to search and reserve flights offered by their third-party partners.

If you arrange a flight using Booking.com, you will receive a plane ticket ā€“ itā€™s not a scam ā€“ but Booking is only the middleman between the customer and a third-party aggregator.

Flight aggregators (such as GoToGate, Kiwi, JustFly, etc.) compile routes and prices, then act as the intermediary between the client and the airline.

Booking.com has various partnerships with third parties and earns a commission from each flight purchased through its website.

  • Are Flights Cheaper on Booking.com?

Flights are not always cheaper on Booking.com.

Often, customers can find the flight they want at a lower price when reserving directly with the airline or the third-party site.

However, Booking.com can offer discounts on trip packages when travelers book their flights, hotels, excursions, and/or car rentals together.

  • Pros and Cons of Using Booking.com for Flights

An advantage to using Booking.com for flights is that their site is a one-stop shop for all things travel-related.

You can book your plane tickets, accommodations, car rental, and activities in one place and be assured youā€™ll get what you pay for.

Booking.com also offers a large selection of flights, and their booking process is easy and straightforward.

They tend to offer two types of tickets: standard and flexible.

Standard tickets are for travelers confident in their travel plans and cannot be changed without penalty.

Flexible tickets are slightly more expensive and can be changed (within the same airline) up to 24 hours prior to departure for only the difference in fare.

That said, Booking may not always list the most up-to-date flight routes or pricing, nor will they have access to all available flights to any given destination (the third-party sites or the airlines themselves may have different options available).

Also, customers are limited in what they can do at the time of booking.

For example, many airlines offer discounted rates on checked luggage if selected ahead of time ā€“ which may not be possible on all Booking.com flights.

Moreover, flights reserved through Booking.com can be problematic if there are any issues, including missed flights.

Because Booking is just the interface between the customer and the third party, if a problem arises, they canā€™t do much to help.

  • Should You Book Flights Through Booking.com?

An old man using Booking.com on a laptop.

While Booking.com provides customers with a comprehensive travel interface to design the perfect vacation, they arenā€™t always the best option, especially when making flight reservations.

Reserving directly through an airline’s website provides travelers with the best protection if any problems occur, especially if the flight route is complicated or you arenā€™t 100% sure of your travel plans.

That said, many customers use Booking.com to find flights, accommodations, and activities because the website is easy to navigate and they have a good reputation.

If your flight is simple and Booking has the best price, you should be absolutely fine to reserve with them ā€“ you will get what you paid for.

Remember, whether using Booking.com, a third-party aggregator, or even the airline website, read the fine print before reserving a flight to avoid surprises.

Booking.com provides a reliable platform to book an entire vacation, including accommodation, activities, and transportation ā€“ and often offers discounts when booking these things together.

They have an excellent website interface that makes it easy to find domestic and international flights; however, there are some things to keep in mind before using Booking.com for plane tickets.

Booking.com is a middleman between customers and third-party flight aggregators.

This means they may not have access to the best price or route to a given destination and arenā€™t responsible for any flights reserved on their site.

While customers can trust that Booking.com is selling them the flight they want, if any issues come up, resolving them can be difficult.

Often itā€™s better to book flights directly with an airline; however, if Booking has a flight you want at a reduced price ā€“ and your travel plans are guaranteed not to change ā€“ youā€™re likely good to go.

Always read the terms and conditions of any flight reservation so you know whatā€™s included and who to contact if something goes wrong.

Klantenservice Booking nauwelijks bestaand

Manipulatie reviews - slechte klantenservice

Zeer slecht bereikbare helpsite of klantenondersteuning.

Werkelijk alles was ronduit vies ( toilet, vloeren, muren, deuren, bedden ) of zat vol etensresten ( oa de bank, keuken) of schimmel ( oa douche, badkuip) of spinnenwebben inclusief spinnen.

Our Take on Home Depot Truck Rental

Pros and cons of home depot truck rental, state availability, load ā€˜n go rental, conventional truck rental, moving supplies, home depot truck rental cost, home depot booking process, home depot truck rental customer reviews, home depot vs. u-haul, home depot vs. enterprise truck rental, our conclusion, faq about home depot truck rental, our rating methodology, home depot truck rental review (2024).

Written by Shane Sentelle Updated 04/19/2024

Shane Sentelle is a content writer with more than six years of experience producing content about home services. A main area of focus is the moving industry, but Shane has also written for home inspectors and published articles to inform readers about pest control, lawn care, and gutter services…

Staging a DIY move is a great way to save money on your upcoming relocation. While the best moving companies provide unmatched convenience, the top truck rental companies offer the most flexibility.

The Home Depot serves as a vendor for local truck rental services in addition to the home improvement goods and services it offers. Our review breaks down Home Depotā€™s pricing model and truck sizes to help you plan your DIY move.

International Van Lines Logo

Home Depot Truck Rental is a quality option for DIY local moving. Most Home Depot locations rent out a selection of F-250 pickup trucks, cargo vans, and 14-foot box trucks for small moves. Home Depot also offers Load ā€˜N Go rentals for those on tight budgets. This rental features low rates for the first 75 minutes, making small moving and transportation easy to afford.

Home Depot also sells moving and packing supplies, including moving boxes, packing paper, tape, and tie-downs. We found its website easy to navigate, and its available truck sizes were clear. The booking process was equally seamless, with little to no waiting time. However, this entirely depends on the business of your local store.

Home Depotā€™s budget-friendly rental options make it a popular choice for smaller in-town moves.

āœ” Offers special low rates for 75-minute rentals āœ” Sells a full range of moving supplies āœ” Partners with Penske Truck Rental for long-distance moving needs

āœ˜ Has varied customer reviews, depending on location āœ˜ Doesnā€™t offer one-way rentals

Home Depot Truck Rental services are available in all 50 states and parts of Mexico and Canada.

Home Depot Truck Rental Services

As a local moving option, Home Depotā€™s truck rental services donā€™t include an expansive list of truck offerings. However, it is more budget-friendly than many rental services thanks to its Load ā€˜N Go packages. We cover the main service offerings you can expect from your local Home Depot store below.

This service is tailored to small local moves and associated needs. This truck rental is an affordable option for home delivery of building materials and in-town moving. It offers F-250 and T250 flatbed trucks, sprinter vans, and HD box trucks at transparent rates for 75-minute, single-day, and week-long rentals.

Home Depot offers larger moving truck rentals via its partnership with Penske. Penske trucks include many sizes for long-distance moves, including 22- and 26-foot trucks. Its trucks can come equipped with loading ramps or lift gates for large items and are large enough for moves of three- to four-bedroom apartments and houses. Through Penske, you can secure added moving services, such as labor. Penske offers unlimited mileage for one-way rentals.

Home Depot serves as one of the largest retailers for moving supplies, with more than 2,300 stores across North America. Its numerous locations sell the following items:

  • Floor protection
  • Mattress bags
  • Moving boxes
  • Packing paper
  • Shrink wrap

Reserving a Home Depot rental truck is similar to booking any rental option. Here, weā€™ve listed some basic rates for truck rentals from Home Depot and Penske. The Home Depot rates for the F-250 flatbed and cargo vans are general estimates. We entered our move information manually to yield the Penske rates.

Penskeā€™s booking process was straightforward, and average pricing was easily accessible. We input our basic moving information, including origin and destination ZIP codes, truck size needs, and rental pickup and return dates, to receive sample rates. Long-distance rentals include unlimited miles, which helps to keep pricing manageable.

* From Penske Truck Rental **Estimate based on a same-town move and 24-hour rental, with 25 miles driven ***One-way rental for a 1,000-mile one-way move

Home Depot requires a credit card and a valid driverā€™s license to secure a rental truck or tool rental. Rental pricing depends on how long you need your vehicle and the size of the truck. We noted that its truck rental page is easy to find via the top navigation bar on its site. Check truck availability for local transit by setting your local store on the siteā€™s home page, then click on each truck model.

To book, call your local Home Depot and inquire about vehicle availability. During the summer, youā€™ll be competing with many customers booking truck and van rentals for home-improvement projects and the usual local moving customers. Depending on availability and local store policy, you may have to put $150 down as a deposit. This will be refunded if you return your vehicle without damage and fueled to its original level.

If you need long-distance moving assistance, we recommend booking with Penske Truck Rental directly rather than booking its trucks through Home Depot.

Home Depot has largely positive reviews for its stores. Customer service quality can vary greatly from store to store. Your experience will likely depend on the quality of the managers and their supporting teams at a given store.

Since truck rental is a relatively minor service within Home Depotā€™s service model, weā€™ve gathered recent customer reviews that speak to Home Depotā€™s customer service to give you an idea of what to expect when you book. We read more than 100 reviews and found that the following captures the overall customer experience:

ā€œComing here is always a stress-free experience. I can often get help with knowledgeable staff, who will never make you feel like youā€™re putting them out!ā€ ā€” Rosalind, July 2023, on Google Reviews ā€œLindsey was AMAZING at how helpful she was showing patience, knowledge, and professionalism rarely found today. She is a valuable asset and should be compensated as such.A true rarity in todayā€™s retail world.ā€ ā€” Mark, August 2023, on Google Reviews ā€œI walked the front door, and 6 employees were having a conversation, and they did not acknowledge me. I stood there waiting for them to finish their conversation, and finally just left.ā€ ā€” Dana, August 2023, on Google Reviews

Home Depot Truck Rental vs. Other Truck Rental Companies

Home Depotā€™s truck rental options are limited compared to other vehicle rental options in the industry. It is an excellent choice for one-stop shopping for moving supplies and for trips over short distances. For larger moving needs, consider other options before you book.

Both Home Depot and U-Haul have widespread availability, with locations in most intermediate-sized locales. Each provides a comprehensive range of moving supplies. U-Haulā€™s convenient one-way rentals make it the better option for small and large moves.

Enterprise Truck Rental has a presence in all 50 states and offers more truck sizes (14) than Home Depot. While it doesnā€™t sell a variety of moving supplies, itā€™s a better option for large moving needs. Like Home Depot, it doesnā€™t provide one-way rentals.

Booking full-service movers is the best way to ensure a hassle-free move, but it increases your overall moving costs. We recommend getting quotes from both full-service movers and truck rental companies before making your decision. If youā€™re planning a smaller local move, Home Depotā€™s truck options and low rental rates make it a solid choice. We like its Load ā€˜N Go option for those moving a short distance on a small budget.

Can I rent a Home Depot moving truck for a one-way rental?

No, you canā€™t rent a Home Depot moving truck for a one-way rental. However, its partnership with Penske allows you to book one-way rentals for most long-distance moving needs. Penske rentals include nearly any size truck, making it a good fit for larger interstate moves.

Do I need a special license to operate any of Home Depotā€™s box trucks or cargo vans?

No, you donā€™t need a special license to operate any of Home Depotā€™s box trucks or cargo vans. Bring your valid driverā€™s license to book a Home Depot rental.

Does my existing auto insurance policy cover the truck Iā€™m renting?

In most cases, your existing insurance will protect you in the event of front-end collisions with rental trucks. Damage to the box itself is often not covered unless you purchase additional insurance.

Do I have to put gas in my Home Depot truck before bringing it back?

You should put gas in your Home Depot truck before bringing it back. All rental companies require that you fuel your truck to its previous level before returning it. Failure to do so will result in fees or the withholding of your $150 security deposit that some Home Depot rentals require.

We back up our moving company ratings and recommendations with a detailed rating methodology to objectively score each company. We conduct research by reading through the company websites, analyzing customer reviews, conducting consumer surveys, requesting quotes, and speaking with customer representatives. We then score each moving company against our review standards for services, contents coverage, scheduling options, additional benefits and custom service options, and reputation among customers to arrive at a final score on a 5-point rating scale.

How to Ditch the Hotels

Airbnb has made it easier than ever to find unique places to stay, often at prices that beat the big hotel chains. The site also offers a variety of accommodations, from luxury rentals to tiny homes and even Airstreams, making it a viable option for all budgets. But if you've never booked an Airbnb before, the process can seem daunting: What should you look for in a property and a host? What kind of fees will you encounter, and are you able to cancel at the last minute? We've consulted with travel experts to answer those questions and more in this guide for Airbnb newbies.

Related: Airbnb Rental Scams to Watch Out For

<p>Scammers are known to set up accounts on legitimate sites such as Amazon and eBay to lure victims. Check feedback on individual sellers before buying or bidding on a product. Common scams include selling a picture of a product rather than the product itself (read the listing carefully) or selling counterfeit goods (eBay does have a guarantee that helps protect buyers who never get what they paid for, or get a subpar or counterfeit product).</p>

Scour the Reviews ā€¦

These days, you probably won't even buy a toothbrush online before reading the reviews , and booking an Airbnb is no different ā€” just be sure to look beyond the general star ratings. "Look for honest reviews that go into detail about what was great or awful," says Kate Bernath of A Cali Girl in Bali . "Short reviews are useless and literally tell you nothing about what you can expect from your experience." Of course, focus on reviews that touch on any factors of special concern, like safety, amenities, host attentiveness, or even how comfortable the bed is.

<p>Phoebe Howlett, a travel blogger, cautions that Airbnb reviews are skewed. "Over 82% of the properties on there have at least a 4.5-star rating," she says, warning that review inflation likely stems from customers' reluctance to criticize property hosts and a desire to receive positive reviews themselves. For a more balanced look at a property, she recommends a service like <a href="https://www.airdna.co/top">AirDNA</a>, which also weighs factors like host status, response time, and cancellation policies.</p>

ā€¦ But Don't Treat Them as Gospel

<p>A general search for Airbnbs in a popular destination can yield an overwhelming number of results, so be sure to tailor your search, says Alessandro Mannino, communications manager for <a href="https://www.neighborwho.com">NeighborWho</a>. "The website provides a very comprehensive list of filters based on guest preferences, so take advantage of this feature. You will make it much easier and quicker for yourself to find the ideal place to stay." Search criteria can be general (shared space or entire apartment, or number of bedrooms and bathrooms, for instance) or granular (the language you want your host to speak, whether you want an indoor fireplace, if you want breakfast with your stay).</p>

Filter, Filter, Filter

<p>Now isn't the time to be shy. Betsy Ball, co-founder and partner of <a href="https://www.eurotravelcoach.com">Euro Travel Coach</a>, says you can help determine how attentive your host will be by simply sending them a quick message or two before booking, asking for clarification on anything you're unsure about. "Ask questions. Get a sense of the level of hospitality they offer you," she says. "Is it consistent with your expectations? Did they answer you in a timely manner?" If not, that could be a red flag.</p>

<p>Another way to ensure you'll be renting a great spot from a great person? Search for Airbnb "superhosts" ā€” a designation they can earn only by maintaining very high ratings and response rates, and very low host cancellation rates. "These are the real gems," says Jeff Miller of <a href="https://www.ourpassionfortravel.com">Our Passion for Travel</a>. "These hosts know what they're doing and have earned their status by meeting a minimum number of high-quality stays and feedback. ā€¦ You can take this as a sign of quality that they know what to do, will respond quickly if there is an issue, and have a seamless process."</p>

<p>Airbnb hosts aren't shy about showing off a photogenic property, so consider a lack of photos a bad sign, say Lee and Stacey Hopkins of <a href="https://www.onetripatatime.com">One Trip at a Time</a>. And if you'd prefer to stay in an Airbnb that isn't used as someone's primary residence, look at the amount of clutter in the photos, they recommend. "If you can see cupboards full of stuff, or plenty of ornaments, fridge magnets and such, then the person probably lives there and you will stay among their stuff, rather than it being just used for Airbnb." Mannino recommends treating brilliant photos with skepticism, just as you might if you were buying a house. "Always compare the provided photos with the written description. Watch for fish-eye lens distortion that can be used to make the space appear bigger than it is," he says.</p>

<p>Originally, all Airbnb guests were on the hook for the entire cost of their stay upon booking. But in early 2018, the platform debuted a fee-free "<a href="https://press.airbnb.com/airbnb-launches-pay-less-up-front-a-new-flexible-payment-option-for-travelers/">Pay Less Up Front</a>" option that requires only a 50% deposit at the time of booking. The catch? The total stay has to cost at least $250, and users need to book their stays at least two weeks in advance. If you don't meet those criteria, you'll still likely be on the hook for the whole cost of your stay during booking.</p>

Know What You'll Pay, and When

<p>While most people associate Airbnb with weekend getaways and other short-term stays, they could be missing out by looking elsewhere for long-term accommodations. "Booking somewhere on Airbnb for a month or more typically comes with a big discount," says Yaz Purnell of <a href="https://www.thewalletmoth.com">The Wallet Moth</a>. "Many hosts would rather have their property booked up for a full month rather than a couple of days here and there, so they will include a discount for people booking long-term stays. With this tip, I've managed to find Airbnb hosts offering 20% or even 30% discounts for stays over a month, plus it's a great way to really get to know a new location."</p>

Consider Long-Term Stays

<p>While it might be tempting to just get a feel for listings and prices by browsing any old dates, that may give you an inaccurate picture of what you'll pay. Cassandra Brooklyn of <a href="https://www.escapingny.com">EscapingNY</a> says the site's demand-based "dynamic pricing" is to blame. "In many cases, weekends and holidays cost more, so the place you're currently looking at advertised at $100 a night can easily jump to $150 a night during your desired dates, not counting another $100 in taxes and fees that will be tacked on."</p>

Search the Dates You Know You'll Travel

While it might be tempting to just get a feel for listings and prices by browsing any old dates, that may give you an inaccurate picture of what you'll pay. Cassandra Brooklyn of EscapingNY says the site's demand-based "dynamic pricing" is to blame. "In many cases, weekends and holidays cost more, so the place you're currently looking at advertised at $100 a night can easily jump to $150 a night during your desired dates, not counting another $100 in taxes and fees that will be tacked on."

<p>While Airbnb hosts charge a one-time cleaning fee on top of the nightly rate, Redditors claim that that money often goes to waste. ā€œPeople superficially clean. Dead flies in the window sills and dirt means you don't clean enough,ā€ one complaint reads.</p>

Don't Forget the Fees

Speaking of fees: When you book an Airbnb, don't be surprised to see a service fee as high as 20% tacked onto your nightly rate. You'll also be on the hook for a cleaning fee, and experts say this can range from minimal to quite a bit. "The amount can be very different from different hosts," Ball says. "The cleaning fee is more important for short stays. If there is an $80 cleaning fee for one night, that sounds like a lot ā€” but if it is for a week, that is much more reasonable."

<p>Most Airbnb hosts will have a standard list of house rules ā€” for instance, no smoking, noise limits after a certain hour, or restrictions on when you can use common spaces in the case of shared accommodations. But you'll also want to read carefully for anything that seems to overreach, like strict limits on what you're allowed to cook, when you're permitted to shower, or even <a href="https://www.thrillist.com/travel/nation/how-to-spot-a-crazy-airbnb-host">what you're allowed to wear while sitting on the couch</a> (yes, really).</p>

Read the Rules

But you'll also want to read carefully for anything that seems to overreach, like strict limits on what you're allowed to cook, when you're permitted to shower, or even what you're allowed to wear while sitting on the couch (yes, really).

<p>You've booked your getaway with the best of intentions, but what happens when you suddenly can't make it? Each host sets their own cancellation policies, but they generally fall into <a href="https://www.airbnb.com/home/cancellation_policies#strict-with-grace-period">three categories</a>: flexible (full refunds for cancellations at least 24 hours in advance of a stay), moderate (at least five days in advance), and strict (at least 14 days in advance). "Many hosts do have cancellation policies that are quite strict, so it's important to know what they are and be OK with that," Ball says. "Even if the host has a liberal cancellation policy, you can lose the Airbnb fee that you paid, so be aware of that. Sometimes, even if the cancellation policy is strict, a host may be reasonable if something happens, and they could possibly refund your payment, or part of it, if they are moved to do so."</p>

Review Cancellation Policies

<p>When you book an Airbnb property, note that the host will always have the ability to pull the plug on your reservation. "Be aware that a host can cancel at any time ā€” even a week before you're due to arrive," Bernath warns. "Even though you'll be reimbursed, you'll be left desperately searching for a decent place to stay at the last minute, which can sometimes be impossible within your original budget." Take heart, though: Hosts are incentivized not to do this and can have their accounts suspended if it happens too often.</p>

Hosts Can Cancel, Too

When you book an Airbnb property, note that the host will always have the ability to pull the plug on your reservation. "Be aware that a host can cancel at any time ā€” even a week before you're due to arrive," Bernath warns. <p>Hotels have someone manning the front desk even at 2 a.m., but your Airbnb can be a little trickier. If you know you will arrive at an unconventional hour, search for properties that allow some form of self check-in, Miller recommends. "Flying in late? You'll want an Airbnb that has a lock box of passcode entry into a building. Some Airbnbs will require the host to meet you for check-in, and in this example, that wouldn't work well." Another tip? Make sure you save your host's contact information in case there's any confusion finding the place or accessing it.</p>

Know How You'll Check In

<p>Hotels are well-equipped with sprinkler systems, dead bolts, and other safety features. Airbnbs can and will vary, however. "I recently stayed alone with my 4-year-old son in an Airbnb in Lisbon and had a few safety concerns," says travel expert Kathleen Porter Kristiansen. The Airbnb "was on a top floor without smoke detectors or fire extinguishers. Check the listing beforehand and consider traveling with your own smoke and carbon-monoxide detectors," she recommends. Similarly, Suzanne Garber, co-founder of Gauze, a company that maintains an international hospital database, urges families with kids to determine whether an Airbnb has been safety-proofed, and says guests who have particular needs like wheelchair access or one-level living should double-check accessibility with their host.</p>

Check for Basic Safety Equipment

<p>Airbnbs are not hotels, and you can't take for granted that you'll receive a full slate of amenities. "Airbnb is often a lot less expensive than staying in a traditional hotel, and you will also not always get all of the amenities that travelers come to expect from a hotel," cautions Maggie Turansky of <a href="https://www.theworldwasherefirst.com">The World Was Here First</a>. "Stay with the mindset that you will get exactly what is lined out in the description, and don't go in expecting more." The same goes for service: Some hosts will go the extra mile, with a glass of wine at check-in or carefully vetted restaurant recommendations ā€” others, you may never see unless you actively seek them out.</p>

Note Any Must-Have Amenities

Airbnbs are not hotels, and you can't take for granted that you'll receive a full slate of amenities. <p><strong>The remedy:</strong> Before any kind of international travel ā€” especially trips that might involve adventure activities of any kind ā€” ensure that your health insurance plan will cover you in case something goes wrong (there's a reasonable chance it won't). Especially with resurgent coronavirus haunting travel for who-knows-how-long, you may want to consider travel health insurance, available as either a stand-alone policy or part of a more comprehensive general travel insurance policy. Before buying, make sure you read all the fine print, as some will exclude that bungee jumping excursion you have your heart set on.</p>

Consider Getting Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is a smart buy for any trip that requires a substantial investment, and when you're staying in an Airbnb, it can offer some additional peace of mind. "I was recently staying at an Airbnb in Iceland and had my apartment burgled while I was out," warns Lora Pope of Explore With Lora . "I tried to contact Airbnb to see if they have any insurance to cover incidents like this, but they do not. The host is also not required to have any insurance. It is entirely up to the guest to have insurance to cover their belongings in the event of theft." Travel insurance may also offer additional protection if you fall victim to a strict Airbnb cancellation policy.

<p>While it's relatively easy to maintain your privacy ducking into and out of a hotel, Airbnb is different. "Guests and hosts are both required to verify their identities through social networks," notes Molly Fergus, general manager at <a href="https://www.tripsavvy.com">TripSavvy</a>. "They confirm personal details and scan official IDs into the system ā€¦ If you tend to be a private person who doesn't dabble in social media and harbors a reluctance to turn over personal information, Airbnb might not be a good choice." Also, unless you choose a property with a self-check-in option, face time with your host is almost assured. For many travelers, this can add a welcome dash of local knowledge to their stay, but for others, it may be uncomfortable.</p>

<p>While Airbnb actively goes after scammers, there are still isolated instances of fraud. Mannino says you need to particularly look out for seemingly cheap but great finds in high-demand places. "If you see an offer that sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Be careful of very low rental rates compared to others," he cautions. Another common issue: Sites that have been carefully designed to look like Airbnb, but aren't, or any time you're asked to wire funds. "Get to the site by doing an organic Google search versus clicking on a social media or an online ad to ensure you are on the official site," he recommends.</p><div class="rich-text"><p>This article was originally published on <a href="https://blog.cheapism.com/booking-with-airbnb/">Cheapism</a></p></div>

We had a great time here. The room was perfectly set up for two adults and two kids. The staff were always extremely helpful, the food at each restaurant was excellent and we spent countless hours in the pool and on the waterslide. We couldn't have asked for more. The staff ensured we had a really great family holiday.

On Thu 15 June 2023, I encountered Faresonfleek.com, on the internet. I wanted to purchase an airline ticket to Latin America. I put in dates, airport, etc. "Fares on Fleek" had internet ad saying Avianca had flights for around $331. (I have no issues with Avianca). Then I was asked for my credit card information, which I gave. "Faresonfleek.com gave me a booking number, consisting of 7 numbers, and I felt they led me to believe my ticket was secure. (See photographs below) Everything from photos appears to be confirmation. I printed out their form, showing my booking number, as well as cost. Around 2 hours later, or so, I received a call from a man with an Indian accent, who said his name was "Douglass." I asked him for his real name and refused to provide it. He said they couldn't offer the ticket for that price, and that ticket had not been booked yet. I told "Douglass," most likely not his real name, "I already have purchased tickets, your company took my credit card information." The company's paper they sent me said, "booking is confirmed," on top. "Douglass" told me they were something like 3d party site that worked for maybe different travel agencies. He said he was calling Avianca, in order to see how much flight would cost now. I could hear in background many people talking, like it was a boiler room. Due to my concern that I wasn't really sure who "Douglass" was with, I terminated the call. A couple of minutes later, "Jim" also with an Indian accent called, saying similar things. I said same thing I had said earlier, "Why did you take my credit card number, and give me booking number, if I don't have a flight?" "Jim" also seemed to make excuses, and didn't seem able to answer my question. Maybe an hour later, I received yet another call from man, also with Indian accent, with Anglo name, and I told this third man that I was no longer interested. I also reported what I regard as possible fraud to my bank, and spoke with "Daphne.". I asked her to block charges from "Fares on Fleek." I am just very uncomfortable with entire experience, for following. 1. The paper that I received from them on the Internet, after I had given them my credit card, said that I had my flight booked. 2. People from another country using possibly fake names, telling me I had to pay more for the flight after I'd already given them my credit card information.

Tried to check in for our flight from Istanbul to Miami and found out our reserved seats were not in fact reserved. Both legs of our business class reservation were reclassified by airline as stand-by. Also before our travel had begun, we had contacted Faresonfleek via email and telephone. We never got a response to either communication. Don't trust Faresonfleek.

cumbersome. could do just as well visiting the airline directly. Now trying to check-in, for last 15 minutes and can't do so as their instructions show.
