Planning Your Article

Step 1 Research your topic.

  • Write above the fold. The fold comes from newspapers where there’s a crease because the page gets folded in half. If you look at a newspaper all the top stories are placed above the fold. The same goes for writing online. The virtual fold is the bottom of your screen before you have to scroll down. Step 4 Know your audience.

  • Ask yourself the “5 W's” again, but this time in relation to your audience.
  • Questions like what is the average age you are writing for, where is this audience, local or national, why is this audience reading your article, and what does your audience want out of your article will inform you on how to write.

Step 5 Find an angle.

  • Even if you are covering a popular story or topic that others are writing about, look for an angle that will make this one yours.

Step 6 Interview people.

  • People usually like to talk about personal experiences, especially if it will be featured somewhere, like your news article. Reach out through a phone call, email, or even social media and ask someone if you can interview them.
  • When you do interview people you need to follow a few rules: identify yourself as a reporter. Keep an open mind . Stay objective. While you are encouraged to ask questions and listen to anecdotes, you are not there to judge.
  • Record and write down important information from the interview, and be transparent with what you are doing and why you are doing this interview.

Writing Your News Article

Step 1 Start with the lead.

  • Your lead should be one sentence and should simply, but completely, state the topic of the article.
  • Remember when you had to write essays for school? Your lead is like your thesis statement.
  • Let your readers know what your news article is about, why it’s important, and what the rest of the article will contain.

Step 2 Give all the important details.

  • These details are important, because they are the focal point of the article that fully informs the reader.
  • If you are writing an opinion piece , this is where you will state what your opinion is as well.

Step 3 Follow up main facts with additional information.

  • This additional information helps round out the article and can help you transition to new points as you move along.
  • If you have an opinion, this is where you will identify the opposing views and the people who hold them.
  • A good news article will outline facts and information. A great news article will allow readers to engage on an emotional level.
  • To engage your readers, you should provide enough information that anyone reading your news article can make an informed opinion, even if it contrasts with yours.

Step 4 Conclude your article.

  • Make sure your news article is complete and finished by giving it a good concluding sentence. This is often a restatement of the leading statement (thesis) or a statement indicating potential future developments relating to the article topic.

Proofing Your Article

Step 1 Check facts before publishing.

  • Be sure to double check all the facts in your news article before you submit it, including names, dates, and contact information or addresses. Writing accurately is one of the best ways to establish yourself as a competent news article writer.

Step 2 Ensure you have followed your outline and have been consistent with style.

  • If your news article is meant to convey direct facts, not the opinions of its writer, ensure you’ve kept your writing unbiased and objective. Avoid any language that is overly positive or negative or statements that could be construed as support or criticism.
  • If your article is meant to be more in the style of interpretive journalism then check to make sure that you have given deep enough explanations of the larger story and offered multiple viewpoints throughout.

Step 3 Follow the AP Style for formatting and citing sources.

  • When quoting someone, write down exactly what was said inside quotations and immediately cite the reference with the person’s proper title. Formal titles should be capitalized and appear before a person’s name. Ex: “Mayor John Smith”.
  • Always write out numbers one through nine, but use numerals for numbers 10 and up.

Starter/baseline assessment

Pupils spend five minutes reviewing their pyramid plan, to remind themselves of the order of information in their reports, while also referring to their original news report plans for detailed information.

As a class, recap the structural and language features of news reporting. How will you begin your news report? Which information will you include in the middle section? How many quotes will you include? How will you end your report? What do you need to remember about using paragraphs in news reports?

Learning activity

Pupils write the first draft of their news reports, using the planning sheets which they created in previous lessons.

Give pupils deadlines throughout the session to replicate the newsroom experience. You may wish to split the sections of the report into separate tasks with a deadline for each one, eg: 5W introduction; quotes and reported speech from interviews; additional research on the topic; final paragraph.

Refer back to the class News report toolkit, as well as the Model news reports and News reporting language word banks from lesson 11 to support pupils to write in an authentic news report style and structure.

Pupils share their news reports with a partner, providing feedback to each other based upon the following questions: which language features have they included in their news report? Have they begun their news report with a 5 W introduction? Have they included  interesting  information? Have they started a new paragraph for every new point? Is the news report  balanced ? Do you think it is a  truthful  and  fair  report? Why?

Journalism is a fast paced industry, requiring reporters to get the facts about newsworthy events and to write about them before a deadline strikes. It takes a certain amount of skill to be able to do this. Despite the pace, news reporters must adhere to high standards, and should have a firm understanding of news writing.

Know what you're going to write about. Stories are usually assigned by an editor. However, newsworthy events can happen anytime, anywhere, and alert reporters develop a good nose for news. It helps to have as many contacts as possible to alert you when news worthy events happen.

Get all the facts first. Journalists know this as the five W's and one H which pertain to who, what, where, when, why and how. These are the most important things to look for.

Look at the details. Most news isn't as straightforward as it seems. Be sure to look at a story from different angles, and get to know the subjects of a story more intimately. It is sad to know that a woman is killed by a drunk driver, for example. But when you find out that the victim was an honor student and a very active member of a charity, it gives the story more depth and personality.

Double-check facts to avoid errors. Sources may also make mistakes when giving you information and some may even deceive you. It is wise to get in touch with other sources. In a shooting incident, for example, getting the facts from the police and from both the criminal and victim is not enough. You should also interview other witnesses who may give information that will reveal more about the incident.

Start writing the news, beginning with the lead. The lead is what hooks your readers and urges them to read on. Most leads are usually a summary of the story, but they can also be dramatic or take the form of a question or a quote in order to gain and retain reader interest. Always use the active voice in reporting. The passive voice is awkward and may discourage readers from reading on.

Write the body of the article. The most common form of a news report is the inverted pyramid. Here, the important information is given in the first few -- if not the first -- paragraphs. Other information relating to the story follows. This form is common because it allows editors to delete the last paragraphs if there are space constraints.

Check your article for errors. If time permits, leave the article for a moment then read through it again with a fresh eye. Newspaper publications usually have proofreaders and editors to check for errors but keep in mind that you are the first line of defense. Grammar mistakes are embarrassing, and factual errors can result in a lawsuit.

  • Be as simple and as concise as possible. Always eliminate needless words and avoid using slang and technical jargon. Your article has to be read and understood by everyone.

  • Never be too verbose. Your words do not have to be too complicated because, if you are indeed a news report writer, you should never ever make it as a medium for you to showcase your wide vocabulary or your excellent command of the English language. When writing news reports, you have to be direct without compromising the quality and the relevant information. You have to make sure that you have chosen your words and construct your sentences properly so you will be able you construct a news story that is concise and brief but still informative.
  • Maintain only less than 25 words when constructing your sentences and also make sure that you keep and contain only a single idea all throughout your sentence. Anything more will always be considered as too wordy and it will always be an extra effort to the readers of the general public.
  • Just use a simple subject-verb-object form. Do not complicate things. News just have to be simple.
  • Never use a lot of commas. Again, keep things simple. Break down unnecessary compound or complex sentences into different sets of sentences.
  • Do not repeat the same information in succeeding paragraphs. In each of the paragraph that you create, always introduce a new information that will aid or support the initial information mentioned in the preceding paragraph.
  • Having more than three prepositional phrases into a single sentence is never ideal.
  • Putting more than three numbers in a single sentence does not look good and convenient for the readers. If the numbers are important, you can have it on a tabular form or in a list form. This can help in making your news report convenient and comfortable to read.
  • Keep in mind that writing a news report is all about the people you are writing about and the people, the general public, you are writing for—it will never be about a written piece about you as a writer or writing for your personal interest. So this means that you should make sure that you have focused on one or more of the affected individuals.
  • When writing a news story, always make sure that you have an angle and a perfect angle at that. Make sure that the angle you have chosen gives an opportunity for all the sides of the story to be heard and not just one side or else you are considered as bias and your credibility will be questioned.
  • Do not be afraid to have an angle for the fear that you will be considered as biased. Keeping an angle to your new story is a standard technique and it is not necessarily bad since this highlights the purpose and the main focus of your news story.
  • Always keep it objective and, obviously, never subjective. Always be nonpartisan. As mentioned above, you just have to make sure that you have tried to cover all sides of the story and never just one or two. For example, there was a road accident wherein a car crashed into a motorcycle. Do not only take into account the statements of the driver of the car and the driver of the motorcycle—you also have to get the statement of the traffic enforcers, the police who responded to the incident, and yes, including the onlookers or the ones who were able to witness the incident.
  • Speaking of getting a statement, always make sure that you will be able to directly quote the people’s statement. Do not add anything just to make your story more interesting because you are not anymore writing a news story but you are already writing fiction. If you fear that you will not be able to catch on what your interviewee had said, make sure you record whatever he or she says.
  • Speaking of interviews, if it is a scheduled or planned, phone call or face-to-face interview, you have to make sure that you have asked permission that you will are to record your interview with that person as there are some countries who would consider recording any kind of conversation or interview as illegal.
  • You are writing a news story and not a feature story so this means that you should not get flowery when it comes to describing a newsworthy event. Just write what happened. Write it as it is and do not any more try writing in a heavily descriptive language as it is not really necessary.

4. The Tail

The tail of a news report is the part where one will be able to read the less important information, which is usually omitted by the editors in the event that there is not anymore enough space left in the newspaper.

Fort Collins police using artificial intelligence to draft police reports: How it works

Fort Collins Police Services is now utilizing artificial intelligence to draft police reports from body camera audio.

Fort Collins police began testing a new AI report-writing program called Draft One, created by Axon — the same company that makes body cameras and Taser stun guns — about three months ago. The AI program became widely available to law enforcement nationwide last month .

Axon says the Draft One program aims to streamline the report process by transcribing the audio from body camera footage and sending that transcript through an AI engine that will create a draft report.

The program has some built-in safeguards, Axon program manager Noah Spitzer-Williams said, including a step in the process where officers have to go through and make changes or additions to the AI-generated report before signing off on it.

“It gives you a really good starting point that you can then modify if you need to,” Fort Collins Police Services Technology Sgt. Robert Younger said. 

Younger said officers using Draft One completed their reports 67% faster than those writing on their own, cutting the time it takes to write these reports down from an average of 27 minutes to 8 minutes and saving the department an estimated 13,000 hours per year.

How does Draft One work?

Draft One is designed to create a first draft of a report for officers based on the transcript from the officer's body camera footage. Here's how Younger said it fits into officers' workflows:

  • After an incident or a call, officers upload their body camera footage to Axon's cloud system by either docking the camera or uploading via Wi-Fi. With Draft One, as soon as the video is done recording, the audio from the body camera footage is transmitted to Axon's cloud service using cellular service and is transcribed.
  • That transcription is fed over to Axon's AI engine to create a draft narrative of the incident or call.
  • The officer is required to review the draft narrative and add information or clarifications in certain sections of the report before signing off on it. Officers can't skip this step and have to review sections flagged by the AI, and they're able to edit any part of the report if needed.
  • Finally, officers have to sign off on the report, acknowledging "the officer is the complete owner of this report, they’ve made all the necessary changes, additions, subtractions, so that this is now their report,” Younger said.
  • A supervisor reviews the report for accuracy, as does someone from the records division.

Younger said the quality of the rough drafts created by Draft One is "absolutely exquisite." The program puts things in a logical order, makes connections to different things in the audio, and identifies things officers may have forgotten about and includes those details, “but the Axon AI is picking all those details up and including it in a report," Younger said.

Fort Collins police have used different dictation methods to complete reports since at least 1997, when Younger joined the department, he said. Generally, officers would dictate their report to an operator — and more recently, through a program called Dragon Dictation, which is also commonly used by doctors and lawyers — and then review and make edits to that transcript to create their report.

Introducing AI in this process reflects "a progression through technology and time," Younger said.

How is Draft One different from ChatGPT?

Draft One and ChatGPT are under the same umbrella of AI programs, generally referred to as generative AI, and are built on top of the same base program, Open AI, Spitzer-Williams said.

The main difference, Spitzer-Williams said, is that "ChatGPT has a degree of creativity built into it," whereas Axon has told Draft One to have "no creativity, stick to the facts."

It's ChatGPT's creativity function that allows the program to do things like write a rap song about your dog — "it'll probably write a pretty good one, actually," Spitzer-Williams said — or create an itinerary for your upcoming vacation.

But Spitzer-Williams said they've turned the creativity level in Draft One down to zero, telling the program not to make assumptions itself but ask officers to clarify or add information in places where the program notices information is unclear or missing.

“Axon has worked with the AI model to make it so that there are no inferences, no assumptions," Younger said. "If it’s not factually there, it’s not going to make an assumption about it. Instead, it will ask clarifying questions of the officer in this draft report.”

“That’s how we’re able to provide these really high quality, accurate drafts that don’t suffer from the same level of embellishments or hallucinations and such that you would get with ChatGPT,” Spitzer-Williams said. 

How is Fort Collins Police Services using Draft One?

Younger said the department has tested Draft One across all divisions — from traffic operations to school resource officers to more complex violent crimes — and the plan is to roll it out departmentwide in the coming weeks.

While testing the program, Younger said he was having officers create two reports — one using the previous dictation method and one using Draft One — and had them time both methods. He said he found officers are completing reports about 67% faster using Draft One.

Saving time on report writing allows officers to be out in the field more, responding to more calls and being proactive in the community, Younger said.

In general, Younger said most officers have embraced Draft One and supervisors are noticing higher-quality reports. There are some officers who have told Younger they don't want to fully rely on Draft One, but they are still finding parts of the program useful. For example, Younger said one officer doesn't use the full text of the AI-generated draft report, but he does look at that draft to help him decide how to organize his own report.

The program isn't perfect, Younger said. In situations with a lot of background voices or other noises — like for officers working in downtown late on the weekends — the AI has trouble distinguishing which voices are important and can include statements made by people just passing by.

Is there added bias in AI-generated police reports?

Bias was a major concern when Axon began developing Draft One because “we just assume by default that AI will be biased until proven otherwise,” Spitzer-Williams said. 

“At Axon, we look at AI as a last resort to solving any problem because it can potentially bring with it things like biases,” Spitzer-Williams said. “But there are some problems where AI is really your best and only solution, like this one. So, as we evaluate that, we will always have a very keen eye as to whether the benefits to society significantly outweigh any of the costs or risks.”

Open AI, Draft One's base program, has teams of people focused on making sure the models are as least biased as possible, Spitzer-Williams said.

Axon did several of its own experiments to ensure Draft One isn’t adding any bias to reports, Spitzer-Williams said. Here's what he said those experiments looked like:

  • Axon had customers share with them real-world incidents to go through the Draft One program to ensure that changing suspect descriptions, including mentions of race, didn’t impact the draft’s accuracy, Spitzer-Williams said.
  • Axon programmers plugged in different races in the same incidents and ran them through Draft One again to ensure nothing else in the report was affected by the mention of different races.

In both experiments they found “that there were no statistically significant differences between the quality of the draft and any given race,” Spitzer-Williams said. 

Axon also did a double-blind study with independent evaluators from law enforcement, attorney’s offices and civil rights groups, and asked them to review a set of reports, half of which were created with Draft One and half without the AI program, and then evaluate their quality. 

“What we found across the board, the Draft One reports performed as good or better,” Spitzer-Williams said. “That was the final step in us feeling really good that the product we were going to put out in the market wasn't going to introduce any unfair biases or anything like that.”

Younger said the safeguard requiring officers to go through make changes to the AI-generated report also protects against any potential bias created by the program.

“It's really important to us to make sure that this is really clear and understood that these reports are authored by the officer,” Younger said. “A rough draft is created, but the officer proofreads it, makes the changes and ultimately is the author of that report.”

The tech moguls and defense contractors behind the Hill and Valley Forum aim to expand their impact, prepping an executive order that would dismantle the Biden administration’s rules on artificial intelligence

Two years ago, Jacob Helberg, a little-known tech industry adviser, convened a dinner between lawmakers and a small group of Silicon Valley insiders on Washington’s Embassy Row. The informal supper club, which would eventually receive funding from billionaire investor Peter Thiel’s venture firm, was not distinctive for its wealth or clout — the people involved had plenty of both — but for its members’ eagerness to eschew the industry’s long-held ideals of boundaryless technology for an alternative vision rooted in American nationalism and an anti-China might.

Today, that group has turned into one of the most powerful lobbying forces for the technology industry in Washington, helping draft and promote one of the country’s only pieces of tech legislation in decades: a law signed by President Biden calling for the forced sale or ban of TikTok , the video app owned by the China-based company ByteDance and used by some 170 million in the United States.

Fresh off that win, the group’s leader, Helberg, is aiming to expand its mission. With associates, he is prepping an executive order geared for a possible future Trump presidency that would dismantle the Biden administration’s rules on artificial intelligence, according to people familiar with its dealings who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe private discussions. Instead, they will push government to pour money into AI grants and contracts that could benefit many in the group.

They aim to undercut China’s status as a U.S. trading partner and are designing legislation that would shift the AI supply chain, including costly semiconductor chips, to domestic manufacturers.

Helberg declined to comment on the potential executive order.

Their newfound prominence was on display in Washington on Wednesday during their first public event, the sold-out Hill and Valley Forum, which featured a who’s-who roster of tech luminaries and senators, including Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.), Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and John Thune (R-S.D.). They described the interplay of American and Chinese tech in high-stakes, warlike terms, such as assessing “America’s Readiness for an AI Pearl Harbor.” All the panelists but one, Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-Ariz.), were men.

The summit marked a victory lap for Helberg in particular. He helped promote the TikTok divest-or-ban bill , offering explosive and largely undocumented warnings that the video app was a “weapon of war” of Communist China. It is also a triumph for the worldview of Thiel, a longtime China hawk who propelled the careers of several speakers and whose firm, Founders Fund , is a sponsor of the forum’s dinner.

But the event also served as a coming-out party for a group whose surging clout and sway on Capitol Hill may shape the debates about the next generation of AI. After Biden signed the TikTok bill into law last month, Helberg boasted his access to the top tier of Congress with a photo collage on X showing him glad-handing with “heroes”: House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) and the bill’s co-sponsor Mike Gallagher, the Republican from Wisconsin who resigned from the House last month to join the defense contractor Palantir, where Helberg now works as a senior adviser to chief executive Alex Karp.

“Lots more work to be done!” Helberg wrote, alongside an emoji of an American flag.

Helberg said in an interview this week that his “strategy of being everywhere” has helped the cohort achieve its policy goals. They are spurred by a new, informal community of techies — a “small cult that has grown into a movement” — who are “unabashedly on Team America,” he said.

“What used to be controversial … in Silicon Valley actually now has moved to the consensus,” he added. “The era of neutrality” is over.

This approach has also fueled criticism that the group’s mission is self-serving, devoted largely toward promoting its technologies as the perfect solutions for an America facing growing global threats.

The consortium pushed to “ban an entire social media platform on the speculation of self-interested tech millionaires,” said Ryan Calo, a law professor at the University of Washington who studies AI policy.

Now they’re warning of “the potential of AI to pose an existential risk to all of humanity, when what they would really like to see … is the government pump a bunch of money into their products and stay out of their way,” he added.

Helberg says that such criticism is “unhealthy” and that the importance of the technological and geopolitical moment merits an extraordinary response.

“Did companies benefit during World War II, making weapons for the U.S. government? Of course,” he said. “But then didn’t the whole country benefit even more? Absolutely.”

Several of the speakers at the event, including billionaire investor Vinod Khosla and Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale, have long argued that tech is uniquely capable of solving societal ailments — and that Washington has historically stymied its progress. Many have avoided public events in Washington, preferring to negotiate behind the scenes, if at all.

But declining venture-capital returns, a costly AI arms race and China’s growing technological sophistication have also sent the industry hunting for government contracts and espousing newly patriotic ideals . Some who were proponents of dismantling the regulatory state are now eagerly feting, and being feted by, the regulators themselves, seeing it as a way to gain influence, compete with foreign rivals and shape national policies.

The coming technological clash

Six years ago, Helberg was a policy adviser at Google, helping the search giant craft its response to Russian and other foreign interference on YouTube and other Google-owned properties.

But Helberg, 34, said that his worldview differed from many of his Google colleagues. They felt that technology could help authoritarian countries become more free; at the time, Google was reportedly exploring breaking into the Chinese market by launching a censored version of its app.

Helberg said he took a more adversarial view, informed by a belief that perennial political warfare, using everyday technologies, has become a “pervasive feature of international politics.” Internally, he created the Good Neighbor Policy, which used software to detect news sites that misrepresented their ownership or country of origin. (He says his colleagues jokingly called it JacobCare.)

He said he was also troubled by a “growing rift” rooted in distrust between Washington and Silicon Valley, whose denizens argue that the bureaucratic culture of Washington runs counter to their “builder” ethos.

In 2021, he wrote “The Wires of War,” a book that laid out an escalating technological clash between Western democracies and authoritarian countries like China and Russia.

The book was picked up by then-Rep. Kevin McCarthy, who displayed it on his wall and circulated it among fellow Republicans in Congress, Helberg said. The following year, Helberg set up the Embassy Row dinner with about 100 influential venture capitalists and lawmakers. The dinner included Helberg’s husband, Keith Rabois, then a top partner at Thiel’s Founders Fund. (Helberg and Rabois, a contemporary of Thiel at Stanford University, were married by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman a few years earlier, bringing the policy wonk into one of the most elite social networks in tech.)

The focus of the original dinner was for legislators to build relationships with a rising but still rare crop of Silicon Valley companies that aimed to sell defense technologies to the federal government. Many of these start-ups, such as Anduril, were incubated and funded by Founders Fund and seen as a second-generation Palantir, the data-mining defense contractor co-founded by Thiel nearly two decades earlier.

The first dinner turned into several, and they ultimately became a quiet back channel between some of the most influential Silicon Valley leaders and like-minded lawmakers such as Gallagher and Sens. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) and Bob Menendez (D-N.J.). Thiel attended last year’s forum along with Khosla.

At the time, Helberg was in the thick of his campaign against TikTok . For over a year, he said yes to every speaking engagement and TV spot, invited lawmakers to his home with Rabois in Miami, and was on a plane to Washington three times a week — drilling in the message “every time” that TikTok “should be treated as a tool of the Chinese Communist Party.”

This was a shift from 2020, when an attempted TikTok ban from the Trump administration produced outcry in Silicon Valley — spurring the app’s investors, including the leaders of Sequoia Capital, to head to Washington to try to protect it. Today, Helberg noted, few Silicon Valley leaders are defending a platform that has emerged as a major rival to some of their businesses. Sequoia’s newly anointed leader, Roelof Botha, is speaking at Wednesday’s forum.

“It’s a complete sea change,” Helberg said.

Pivoting from TikTok to AI

The group has quickly shifted from its TikTok crusade to artificial intelligence — an arena that the Biden administration and lawmakers have moved to aggressively regulate.

Biden recently signed a wide-ranging executive order establishing safety reviews for the next generation of AI models. House and Senate leaders have created bipartisan groups to develop proposals that would advance AI innovation, while other bills address potential AI harms, including copyright infringement and election fraud .

Venture capitalists and start-up CEOs have argued against some of these measures, worrying that a heavy-handed approach to regulation could slow the pace of technology and benefit some of the biggest companies at their expense. Some tech investors not involved in the forum, including Marc Andreessen and John Doerr, also attended a private meeting organized by Schumer, where they discussed how to regulate AI without impeding innovation.

As the confab got underway, and attendees from Silicon Valley AI companies mingled with government types, speakers discussed American exceptionalism and celebrated the growing partnership between Silicon Valley and the defense industry.

“Let the competition that is happening now … just absolutely flourish,” said Josh Wolfe, co-founder and managing partner of the venture firm Lux Capital. “This is what made the defense industry in America great. It is the very tenets of free markets and capitalism.”

In one session, Helberg spoke to Khosla and Sen. Todd Young (R-Ind.) about “the U.S.-China Techno-economic war and the national security implications of AI.”

Khosla, co-founder of the early-internet giant Sun Microsystems, has also embraced the role of a vocal TikTok critic.

He and Helberg co-signed a full-page ad in the New York Times in April calling TikTok a Chinese “weapon of war,” adding they didn’t “stand to gain or lose anything” from the bill and spoke “as private citizens out of love for the United States.”

But Khosla’s venture firm invests in Altman’s OpenAI, the ChatGPT maker that has worked to market American AI firms as an irreplaceable national shield against an adversarial China.

“Doomsday-ing is good marketing,” said Calo, the University of Washington law professor, noting that the “political theater” of anti-TikTok bans and Cold War talk distracts from more pressing needs, like properly funding the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the government lab critical to evaluating AI that has been plagued by leaks and mold .

The event closed with a video message from former president Donald Trump , who thanked attendees for “keeping your chin up.”

“Our country is going through a lot of problems right now, but we’re going to make it bigger, better, stronger than ever before,” he added.
