Final Fantasy 7 (VII) Remake How to Get All Battle Intel Reports

April 8, 2020 by PowerPyx 21 Comments

Final Fantasy VII Remake has 20 of Chadley’s Battle Intel Reports. Completing all Battle Intel Reports unlocks the Intelligence Agent trophy. They are little side tasks that require taking certain actions in combat.

The reports are given to you by a character called Chadley. You first meet him in Chapter 3 as part of the story, which cannot be missed. You will then meet him again at multiple fixed points throughout the game (Chapter 3, 8, 9, 14, 16). See all of Chadley’s Locations below.

Battle Intel Reports

:triangle:

Battle Intel Report 02: Magic Elements Pt. 1 – Condition: Hit enemies vulnerable to fire, ice, or lightning using the appropriate magic (Number of attacks: 1 for each element) / Reward: Wind Materia First you must get the Fire Materia (starting Materia for Cloud), Ice Materia (bought from Item Shop in Chapter 3), Lightning Materia (bought from Item Shop in Chapter 3). Use Assess on enemies to see their weaknesses (see Report 01). Then use the type of spell that they are weak against. Do this with all 3 of these elements. Usually humans are weak to fire, machines are weak to electricity, monsters are weak to ice.

Battle Intel Report 04: The Stagger Effect Pt. 2 – Condition: Stagger 15 enemy types. / Reward: ATB Boost Materia Staggering enemies happens when you’ve dealt enough damage to them. Then they become stunned and unable to move for a few seconds. Using the type of spell they are weak against puts them in stagger mode quickly. This will complete automatically, it’s unmissable throughout the story. It only counts different enemy types so you can’t farm it against the same enemy.

Battle Intel Report 05: Combat Simulation: Shiva – Condition: Defeat Shiva. / Reward: Shiva Summoning Materia After completing the first 4 Reports, hand them all in to Chadley and you will unlock the Shiva VR Mission. In it you must defeat Shiva to unlock her as a summoning Materia.

Battle Intel Report 06: Monster Bio Pt. 2 – Condition: Assess 10 enemy types. / Reward: Steadfast Block Materia Same as for Report 01, use Assess on 10 different enemy types.

Battle Intel Report 07: Magic Elements Pt. 2 – Condition: Exploit weaknesses of 15 enemy types. / Reward: Steal Materia Same as for Report 02, use Materia Spells to exploit the element the enemy is weak against. Use Assess to see their weakness (Humans = Fire, Machines = Electricity, Monsters = Ice, Flying Creatures = Wind).

Battle Intel Report 09: Monster Variants Pt. 1 – Condition: Defeat monsters of 3 unique varieties. / Reward: Synergy Materia This will complete automatically throughout the story, don’t worry about it. Some enemies exist in multiple variants, you’ll encounter plenty of variants automatically in forced story encounters and side quests.

Battle Intel Report 10: Combat Simulation: Fat Chocobo – Condition: Defeat a fat chocobo. / Reward: Fat Chocobo Materia After completing all the above Battle Reports, hand them in to Chadley to unlock a VR Mission against Fat Chocobo Boss. Defeat him to complete this.

Battle Intel Report 11: Monster Bio Pt. 3 – Condition: Assess 20 enemy types. / Reward: Item Master Materia Same as Report 01.

Battle Intel Report 13: Refocus Analysis – Condition: Trigger Refocus 2 times. / Reward: ATB Assist Materia Refocus is the starting Materia for Aerith when she joins your party. Automatic and unmissable from the story. Build up your ATB gauge until you can use limit break, then pick the Refocus limit break. Just make sure you got the Refocus Materia equipped.

Battle Intel Report 14: The Stagger Effect Pt. 4 – Condition: Stagger 40 enemy types. / Reward: ATB Stagger Materia Same as Report 04.

Battle Intel Report 15: Combat Simulation Leviathan – Condition: Defeat Leviathan / Reward: Leviathan Summoning Materia This unlocks after completing Report 12. Hand it in to Chadley and do his VR mission with the Leviathan boss.

Battle Intel Report 16: Monster Bio Pt. 4 – Condition: Assess 30 enemy types. / Reward: Enemy Skill Materia Same as Report 01.

Battle Intel Report 17: Weapon Abilities – Condition: Acquire all 16 weapon abilities / Reward: Skill Master Materia The official in-game text on the report says “all 16” weapon abilities, but there’s actually 24 in total. For this report you only need 16 though (so the word “all” is wrong and likely a translation error from Japanese). You must find 16 of 24 weapons and use their abilities in battle to reach maximum proficiency with all of them. See Final Fantasy 7 (VII) Remake – All Weapon Locations .

Battle Intel Report 18: MP Consumption – Condition: Master all 12 types of magic materia. / Reward: MP Absorption Materia There are 12 types of Magic Materia total (the green colored Materia). See Final Fantasy 7 (VII) – All Materia Locations . Once you got them all, make sure you always have them equipped. No need to use them, just finishing a fight gives you AP towards all Materia you have equipped with everyone in the party. An easy way to farm this is after the story in Chapter Select, load up Chapter 9 and repeat Colosseum Matches on Classic Difficulty. On classic you don’t need to press any buttons as the AI wins for you automatically. After the story you also earn AP three times faster through Chapter Select.

Battle Intel Report 19: Monster Variants Pt. 2 – Condition: Defeat 10 unique varieties. / Reward: HP Absorption Materia Same as Report 09. This will complete automatically when you do all side quests and complete the story. Don’t worry about this.

Battle Intel Report 20: Combat Simulation Bahamut – Condition: Bahamut / Reward: Bahamut Materia This unlocks after completing the above 19 Battle Reports. Defeat Bahamut in Chadley’s VR Mission.

Those are all 20 Battle Intel Reports in Final Fantasy 7 Remake. You will get the Intelligence Agent trophy for having completed them all.

For all other Collectibles and anything needed for 100% completion, check out the  Final Fantasy VII Remake Wiki & Strategy Guide .

20 unlocks Bahamut summon in VR. For anyone struggling with the 200% stagger, use FIFA’s ability to increase her strength, and when an enemy is staggered, use her special attack (triangle) and you’ll see the percentage go up. You need a tough enemy usually who isn’t going to die before you get enough hits in, and hopefully the others in your party are busy elsewhere or else they tend to pile on and end up killing your target. Revive takes forever to master as well, which you need for mastering all the magic types. You can obtain an AP Up materia part way through the game (at Tifas house, it is a pedometer that needs 5000 steps, and will then turn into the AP materia. This doubles to AP gained to a linked materia).

April 9, 2020 at 12:02 pm

Oops, I meant Aerith’s house you obtain the pedometer/AP up. Excuse my autocorrect changing Tifa to FIFA 😅

Battle Intel Report 3 is wrong. The unique ability is the triangle skill. So you need to max out the ATB bar on a staggered mob using skills like Clouds Punisher and Barret’s Overcharge to get credit.

April 10, 2020 at 8:57 pm

You don’t have to use ten different triangle abilities. You can use the same one for all 10. The discription of the report is just poorly worded imo. Each character has one “unique ability”, which can be used repeatedly for the report. I found Barret’s the easiest. You can actually have this report done very easily using Barret’s Overcharge on staggered mobs to fill your ATB before you get the report. I used Cloud to nearly stagger the mob, swapped to Barret to finish staggering, and hit Overcharge to get the report very easily.

April 13, 2020 at 5:06 pm

I got all my unique abilities not by the triangle moves but by going to abilities either through hotkey with L1 or just classic way by using x command

April 10, 2020 at 4:33 pm

Battle Intel Report 03 solution is incorrect, I got this one done with the first sword I got (Iron Sword) very early in the game. Even between Barret, Tifa, and Cloud at this point, that’s only four different weapons I’ve used abilities for.

April 10, 2020 at 6:03 pm

How did you do it?

' src=

April 11, 2020 at 1:44 am

Can someone help out with mission 3? Really don’t know what I missing. Imagine I am being an idiot but I really don’t understand exactly how you get this. Randomly got one but can’t get anymore.

Do you use an ability when the ATB is full or?

April 11, 2020 at 1:36 pm

Ok for a pretty foolproof way to do number 3. When you find Chadley in chapter 8 you can fight VR Shiva. Long fight but you can stagger her, make sure you have low ATB then switch modes and spam heavy attack. You should be able to get 1-2 parts towards completion. You can keep fighting her over and over. Boring but it really just gets it out the way.

' src=

April 13, 2020 at 8:52 pm

Build the ATB bar while an enemy is staggered with you’re heavy attack. Tifa’s is the easiest, stagger with normal attacks and then just feel an ATB with her uppercut attack.

April 16, 2020 at 5:20 am

Just wanted to ask if anyone had a problem with the Leviathan fight glitching? In chapter 13 I unlocked it by doing battle intel 12 but when I got to chapter 14 and checked with Chadley the vr fight doesn’t appear anymore. Is it because I can only access the vr fight in chapter 13?

April 16, 2020 at 11:52 am

I played Leviathan fight in Chapter 14. You meet Chadley again in Chapter 16, check with him there. Also try to advance the story of Chapter 14, maybe that fixes it, or replay Chapter 13 after the story in Chapter Selection. Might just be a little bit glitchy.

April 21, 2020 at 3:22 pm

when does battle report 17 appear on the list? i have all but 2 weapons and am proficient in them all, but the report isn’t on my list yet

April 21, 2020 at 5:00 pm

ah doesn’t matter. it unlocked after completing report 12

Hi there! I have beaten the game on normal and am within thru Hard mode. I seem to have missed opening up Battle Report 18 MP. Where can I do that?

After chapter 16 you can’t get back to Chadley, correct?

In Chapter 3, Home Sweet Slum, Cloud will join the Neighbourhood Watch and complete a series of optional side quests, with the quests appearing as green markers on the map. Head to see Chadley, the white-haired researcher near the Weapons Shop.

report 3 ff7 remake

This will start a series of Battle Intel challenges, an ambient quest line that follows you throughout the game. Each quest rewards you with useful Materia and items that will enhance your combat abilities, so it's worth taking note of Chadley's challenges.

report 3 ff7 remake

Head to the Battle Intel tab in the pause menu to check out the challenges. Each requires different criteria and can be completed at any point in the game, so make sure to check them every so often to keep up with your progress.

If you're after all the Summons in the game, then going through the entire list is essential.

With that explained, here's how to unlock and complete Chadley's Battle Intel missions and unlock every reward...

Criteria: Assess 2 enemy types Battle Intel Report 01 Reward: Auto-Cure Materia

Complete the mission 'Chadley's Report' in Chapter 3 which you will unlock as part of the story when Cloud starts out in the Neighbourhood Watch. Use the Assess Materia that Chadley gives you to assess two enemies in battle.

You can do this by equipping the Materia in the Materia and Equipment section of the pause menu and casting the spell.

report 3 ff7 remake

Criteria: Hit enemies vulnerable to fire, ice or lightning using the appropriate magic. (Number of attacks: 1 for each element) Battle Intel Report 02 Reward: Wind Materia

To complete this report you have to hit enemies that are vulnerable to fire, ice and lightning attacks with spells respective of their weakness. The best way to go about this is to assess an enemy first so you can observe what it is weak to.

Once done you can use this to your advantage, and attune the necessary spells to stagger it. If you start a battle and don't have the right Materia equipped, press pause and give up, then come back with the proper equipment.

report 3 ff7 remake

Criteria: Use unique abilities on staggered enemies and charge the ATB gauge 10 times Battle Intel Report 03 Reward: First strike materia

You shouldn't have any trouble unlocking this naturally, as it asks you to use different abilities like Braver, Triple-Slash and more on enemies that are staggered to complete the task.

To stagger an enemy, use Tifa's basic attacks to raise the orange bar until the enemy buckles under pressure, leaving it open to damaging abilities. Make sure you're not just using the same abilities here!

report 3 ff7 remake

Criteria: Stagger 15 enemy types Battle Intel Report 04 Reward: ATB Boost Materia

This one should unlock through natural progression, but just in case, use Tifa as much as possible to stagger enemies.

She is the best character for inflicting stagger, so switch to her in battle and use her basic attacks and the 'Unbridled Strength' ability to buff her capabilities and force enemies to buckle under the pressure. Embark on side quests to find alternate enemy types than the ones you'll encounter during the story.

report 3 ff7 remake

Criteria: Defeat Shiva Battle Intel Report 05 Reward: Shiva Summon Materia

This is your first real test which you can activate by speaking to Chadley and selecting the VR Missions menu. This will pit you against the ice queen Shiva. Shiva is weak to Fire, so use that to your advantage when you're fighting her.

Equip Fire Materia on Cloud and if you've unlocked it, pair Elemental Materia with Fire Materia to deal extra damage per every sword hit. You can stagger her easily by pelting her with fire spells - then quickly follow up with Cloud's abilities like Braver and Triple-Slash to make short work of her health bar.

report 3 ff7 remake

Criteria: Assess 10 enemy types Battle Intel Report 06 Reward: Steadfast Block Materia

As mentioned previously, you should make a habit of using the Assess Materia at the start of battle on any new enemy you come across to quickly complete this report.

If you're struggling, complete side quests and inspect every corner of the map when it opens up in Chapter 3,9 and 14 to find enemies off the beaten path that you may not encounter in the story. You should get this by progressing naturally through the campaign, though!

report 3 ff7 remake

Criteria: Exploit weaknesses of 15 enemy types Battle Intel Report 07 Reward: Steal Materia

Once you've fostered the habit of using Assess on every enemy you come across, also make sure that when you notice their weakness, you swap to the corresponding Materia or even restart the battle so you can use their achilles heel against them.

Keep assessing enemy units and using the appropriate spells that exploit their weaknesses, and you should unlock this fairly quickly. If not, keep pushing through the campaign and completing side quests.

report 3 ff7 remake

Criteria: Defeat 2 or more enemies with a single attack Battle Intel Report 08 Reward: Provoke Materia

You shouldn't have any trouble getting this naturally, but consider using area of effect spells or Cloud's Braver on a group of small enemies to complete it quickly.

Other options include Limit Break's like Barrett's Catastrophe attack, which causes a gigantic explosion. The Magnify Materia will also let you hit multiple enemies with the same attack, so equip and use the corresponding spell if you're struggling.

report 3 ff7 remake

Criteria: Defeat monsters of three unique varieties Battle Intel Report 09 Reward: Synergy Materia

This one is something of an open goal, and you should unlock it as soon as you receive the report if you're far enough into the campaign. If not, explore the corners of each map when the world starts to open up and make sure you're taking down every single enemy type you can find.

report 3 ff7 remake

Criteria: Defeat a Fat Chocobo Battle Intel Report 10 Reward: Fat Chocobo Summon Materia

Another combat simulation which you can access by speaking to Chadley and selecting 'VR Missions' - this time with Aerith in tow.

The Fat Chocobo is mostly immobile, so make sure to pelt it from afar with strong elemental spells, in absence of a specific weakness. Poison Materia is super powerful here, especially if you use it early in the battle.

As soon as the Fat Chocobo starts to spawn extra characters from the depths of Final Fantasy lore, wipe them out first and then focus back on the Fat Chocobo. Use lots of strong spells to stagger it then go to town!

report 3 ff7 remake

Criteria: Assess 20 enemy types Battle Intel Report 11 Reward: Item Master Materia

Keep up your Assess habit - make it muscle memory to use this spell at the start of every battle. Eventually, as you complete side quests, combat simulations and more optional challenges you should finish this report in the later stages of the game.

report 3 ff7 remake

Criteria: Increase stagger damage bonus to 200% Battle Intel Report 12 Reward: Parry Materia

Ok, this one is pretty tricky. The game doesn't do a great job of explaining this mechanic to you, so let me explain. When you stagger an enemy by increasing the orange bar, you will see a 160% tag at the moment when it breaks.

To complete this challenge, you have to increase that percentage to 200%, but the game doesn't explain how to do that. The best way to do this is to play on Normal and fight a boss or a large creature that has a long stagger time when you break the orange bar.

report 3 ff7 remake

You can play this by ear and then replay a battle to finish this report. When you find one, you should then switch to Tifa and use Unbridled Strength by draining your ATB bar.

This will unlock her super stagger abilities (bound to the Triangle button). When the enemy is staggered, hammer the triangle button to cycle through the three stagger attacks and you should quickly increase the meter to 200%.

Sometimes you might kill the enemy before you can hit the percentage, but just keep trying and you'll eventually manage it. If you're struggling, remote control the other characters and ensure they're not attacking.

Criteria: Trigger Refocus two times Battle Intel Report 13 Reward: ATB Assist Materia

This one is easy to unlock, but the part where most people get stuck is in equipping the Materia. It'll be in your inventory anyway, so equip the Refocus Materia on your character of choice and achieve Limit in battle by weathering a long fight.

Combat simulations and Corneo Coliseum challenges are good for this. Once you manage to hit your Limit, use the Refocus Limit Break. Complete the battle, boot it up again and follow the steps to achieve Limit a second time. Use Refocus again and you're done. Simple as that!

report 3 ff7 remake

Criteria: Stagger 40 enemy types Battle Intel Report 14 Reward: ATB Stagger Materia

As this challenge starts to get more demanding, the best tip is to make sure that you're not killing new enemies before you stagger them. Make a habit of using Tifa's basic attacks to stagger enemies instead of killing them prior to that point, as her punches do a small amount of damage but raise the stagger bar significantly.

If this approach isn't working, use Assess to find their weakness and exploit that with the appropriate spells to stagger most enemies instantly.

report 3 ff7 remake

Criteria: Defeat Leviathan Battle Intel Report 15 Reward: Leviathan Summon Materia

Leviathan deals incredible damage and is fluent in water attacks, so make sure you've got resistance or an MP Absorption Materia to ward off its elemental damage.

Unfortunately, the Leviathan doesn't have any specific weaknesses, so your best bet is to equip your most powerful materia and put your best foot forward, mapping all your strongest abilities on Cloud and Tifa and attuning support spells to Barrett and Aerith who can provide support from afar with curative magic and ranged attacks.

report 3 ff7 remake

Criteria: Assess 30 enemy types Battle Intel Report 16 Reward: Enemy Skill Materia

Use the open world sections to your advantage in chapters 3, 9 and 14 and keep exploring, making sure to use Assess at the start of every battle.

If it's a struggle, simply give up and respec if you find yourself in battle and you don't have Assess equipped on anyone in your party. Again, this should unlock fairly easily if you make it into a habit.

report 3 ff7 remake

Criteria: Acquire all 16 weapon abilities Battle Intel Report 17 Reward: Skill Master Materia

This is fairly tricky to complete, but keep on the lookout for every alternative weapon in the game, and when you find them, equip them immediately and use the attached ability until you become proficient in it.

You can find your weapon ability in the Materia and Equipment screen in the pause menu. In the top right you'll see it in action, and the bar beneath will tell you your proficiency level.

Change your battle style and focus on using that ability until you get a notification telling you that you're proficient in it.

Once you manage that, you can then use that ability at any time, with any weapon. This significantly expands your pool of abilities if you acquire all 16 weapon proficiencies, so it's well worth doing as you progress through the game.

report 3 ff7 remake

Criteria: Master all 12 types of Magic Materia Battle Intel Report 18 Reward: MP Absorption Materia

The easiest way to complete this challenge is to find the Pedometer Materia at the start of Chapter 14 when you walk out of Aerith's house after a grilling from Elmyra. If you check it out in the menu you'll notice that the criteria for this special Materia asks you to take 5000 steps.

If you run around completing side quests and increasing the ticker, you'll eventually transform the Pedometer Materia into an AP Up Materia.

The AP Up Materia doubles the amount of AP you'll earn in battle, which means you can upgrade your Materia quickly by pairing whichever one isn't fully maxed out with the AP Up Materia.

Upgrade each Materia as you go on, replacing them when they're fully completed to master all 12 types of Magic Materia, which are the green orbs that denote natural elements.

The most difficult one to fill is the Revival Materia, so start grinding out that one early.

There's also Summons to unlock, most of which you get from completing Intel Battle Reports . Once you've finished the game, it's worth unlocking the remaining Final Fantasy 7 Dresses by choosing the correct options during the Johnny, Heads or Tails and Madam M massage course choices , and finding any weapon locations or Music Discs you left behind. And if you've just started, then learn what to do during the timer choice and the Lost Friends quest.

Criteria: Defeat monsters of 10 unique varieties Battle Intel Report 19 Reward: HP Absorption Materia

Keep playing through Final Fantasy 7 Remake and completing all of the optional quests and combat arena challenges to eventually catch and defeat every enemy variant.

You should unlock this through normal gameplay, but just in case, make sure you check every corner of the open-world maps and answer the call of every side quest to ensure you're seeing every enemy the game has to offer.

report 3 ff7 remake

Criteria: Defeat Bahamut Battle Intel Report 20 Reward: Bahamut Summon Materia

The dreaded Bahamut is your final combat simulation and provides a robust challenge to the player, even if their party is high-levelled with fleshed out Materia and Weapons.

As you might expect, it doesn't have any specific weaknesses, and uses a myriad of attacks in battle to unravel your party's tactics. It's a tough fight, and if you have any Revival Earrings, you may want to equip them so you can survive its killing blows.

report 3 ff7 remake

Bahamut is really tricky, but just watch for the ability where it issues a countdown, called Megaflare. When it ends it will deal a killing blow to your entire team.

You want to beat Bahamut before it can use Megaflare multiple times, so focus on staggering it early with Focused Thrust and Omnistrikes. Put your best materia and equipment forward and be careful with blocking and healing. Regardless, you can always turn down the difficulty if it's too much to handle

(FF7R) Final Fantasy VII Remake : Report 3 – The Stagger Effect PT1 (Battle Intel – Side Quest) Guide

Neal Hanson

Last night, I went ahead and put in another two hours of work on the reports I wrote yesterday for FFVII Remake. After a quick comparison of the combat mechanics of FFVII and FFIX, and some discussions about the game’s various features, I decided I needed to get the next part of my current report up: the Battle Intel Report.

So far, we have made the following discoveries: 1) The area around Midgar is densely populated, and 2) the train system is set up for moving large amounts of people quickly from point A to point B. The world of Final Fantasy VII is one that is built to move large amounts of people quickly from point A to point B.

The story of Final Fantasy VII is one that has been well documented. The original game had been released in 1997, followed by several sequels that built on the story and the world of the game without ever actually touching the source material. Now, fifteen years later, the remake has hit the market and changed the world of Final Fantasy in ways that have been unthinkable up until this point.

report 3 ff7 remake

Another straightforward Battle Intel Side Quest, with the exception that this time you must utilise special skills on staggered opponents and charge the ATB gauge.

This will, once again, teach you what you should already know utilising Materia that you should already have.

SIDE Report 3 – The Stagger Effect Pt1 (QUESTION NAME)

GIVER OF THE QUESTION: Chadley COMPLETE REPORTS 1-2 CHAPTER: ACTIVATED REWARD: Materia of the First Strike REQUIREMENT: Charge the ATB gauge 10 times by using unique skills against staggered opponents.

Because I didn’t completely comprehend the ATB gauge charging process for the video, I found Barret to be more helpful.

Once a fiend was on the verge of getting staggered, I would immediately switch to Barret and press the attack option until the adversary was truly staggered, after which I would utilise Barret’s Overcharge ability, which always seemed to succeed.

However, after playing this game for many hours, I finally understand precisely how it is supposed to operate.

You may either utilise the Barret method I described earlier to charge the ATB or equip a character with the ATB Boost Materia, which is a Report 4 prize, so it’s probably better to do that one first.

Then equip that Materia and charge your ATB immediately with the L1 and R1 (PS4) buttons.

As for the unique abilities requirement, once a foe has been staggered you can use moves such as Barret’s Overcharge and Tifa’s Whirling Uppercut (basically their Triangle abilities)

So this video may not show the best method of ATB boosting, it does however show you how to take on an enemy with a unique ability.

The Battle Intel side quest is a series of side quests that you can unlock in the original Final Fantasy VII game as you progress through the game. The first battle in the series, called Stagger, is a fight against a S-ranked Sephiroth clone named “Tooka” (this battle is a homage to the original battle in which you must defeat a Sephiroth clone).. (FF7R) Final Fantasy VII Remake : Report 3 – The Stagger Effect PT1 (Battle Intel – Side Quest) Guide

Another easy and simple enough Battle Intel Side Quest except this time you are required to use unique abilities on staggered enemies and charge the ATB gauge.

Again this will be teaching you what you should already know using Materia that you should already own

SIDE QUEST NAME:  Report 3 – The Stagger Effect Pt1 QUEST GIVER:  Chadley ACTIVATED:  Complete Reports 1-2 CHAPTER:  REWARD:  First Strike Materia REQUIREMENT:  Use unique abilities on staggered enemies and charge the ATB gauge 10 times. LOCATION: GUIDE: For the video posted in this I didn’t fully understand the ATB gauge charging mechanism and instead found Barret to be useful for this. What I originally did was once a fiend was close to being staggered I would quickly switch to Barret and mash the attack option until the foe was indeed staggered, from there I would then use Barret’s  Overcharge  ability and this always seemed to work.

However, after having now played several countless hours of this game I now know exactly how this is meant to work.

In order to charge the ATB you can either use the Barret strategy I mentioned earlier or equip a character with the  ATB Boost Materia  which will be a  Report 4  reward, thus it may be best to complete that one first. Then equip that Materia and using the L1 and R1 (PS4) button you can instantly charge your ATB.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3: Everything We Know

report 3 ff7 remake

Ever since Square Enix announced that  Final Fantasy VII  would be a three-part series, fans of the acclaimed remake have been pondering over the idea of what a third installment would even look like. And honestly, we’re inclined to follow the same school of thought, as the second installment,  Rebirth ,  has yet to give us any indication as to  where  the story is even heading. Fact is, though, Cloud’s journey isn’t quite over yet, so we can definitely expect to see the journey power on for  at least  another three or four years, give or take.

At the time of writing, we can’t say for certain whether or not  Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3  will even release in time for the PlayStation 5’s final days on the market. We’re still a ways off, true, but given the fact that  Rebirth  is set to arrive in 2024, and that a console’s typical lifecycle spans roughly six or seven years — there s a strong chance that the third chapter could, in theory, arrive in time for the PlayStation 6 debut.

Of course, we’re getting ahead of ourselves with this one. But let’s rewind things just a smidgen, if only to add a bit more depth to the upcoming ARPG. Need to know everything there is to know about the closing chapter in the trilogy? Here’s what we can tell you based off the information provided by Square Enix to date.

What Is Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3?

Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3  is the third and final segment in the acclaimed RPG trilogy, and a direct sequel to 2024’s  Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.  It was announced back in June 2022 that the long-awaited remake would, in fact, be a trilogy, and that it would aim to round out Cloud’s journey in the most exciting way possible.

Since making said announcement, developer Square Enix has confirmed that the third part in the series has, surprisingly, already started to come to life, which leads us to believe that we could, in theory, get a glimpse into its progress at some point in 2024. Sure enough, its release date is still a total mystery, but for what it’s worth, we know that the devs are going above and beyond to finalize the trilogy and have it available for public consumption as soon as possible.

There’s still a lot we don’t actually know about the story behind the third installment. Not that this comes as much of a surprise, though, what with  Rebirth  still under wraps and a whole ocean of content left to unravel over the course of two more entries. However, for what it’s worth, we know that the initial Midgard section is over, and that  Rebirth  will be moving over to the next arc — Kalm.

If the first entry in the trilogy is anything to go by, then we can definitely expect to see yet another full-fledged action RPG with a litter of quests and story-driven cinematic elements in the third. Not a great deal will change as far as gameplay details go, so don’t expect Square to completely rewrite the formula at the last minute. Truth is, if you’ve already slugged through the first — then you’ll already have an idea of what to expect in the second, and of course, the  third.

Development

pic.twitter.com/gB7CafhSUb — FINAL FANTASY VII (@finalfantasyvii) June 16, 2022

According to the devs, work on  Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3  had already started back in mid-2022. “The development on  Final Fantasy VII Rebirth  has been progressing rapidly since we adopted a new development structure,” said creative director Tetsuya Nomura. “A title of this scale in which everything is interconnected even before production began is truly rare. In fact, some development has already begun on the third title. I myself have started on the development and am working towards the completion of the series.”

Of course, this doesn’t exactly help us out with the whole release window situation. But as far as realistic expectations go, we’re pinning our hopes on seeing the final entry in the series come to light at some point between 2026 and 2027.

I wouldn’t get your hopes up over catching any form of sneak preview for Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3  just yet, what with  Rebirth  still on the horizon and several years of crossing t’s and dotting i’s left to do. Having said that, once  Rebirth  has shed its skin, there’s a good chance that we’ll see something on the matter before Q4 2024. Don’t take our word on that, though.

Release Date, Platforms & Editions

Just to put it out there —  Final Fantasy VII Remake  was a PlayStation exclusive, as is the upcoming sequel,  Rebirth. Knowing this, and how Square Enix has an insuperable relationship with Sony, leads us to believe that the third installment won’t be any different, and will, in fact, remain tied to the PlayStation 5. But as for when it’ll release on said shores is still anybody’s guess — as it will continue to be for at least another year or two.

Given the the fact that the first part launched back in 2020—roughly four years before the teased early 2024 release of  Rebirth —we do have reason to believe that the third part will be heading our way at some point between 2026 and 2027. We’re shaving a year off of a typical four-year development cycle here simply down to the fact that Square Enix has already begun working on it from behind the scenes. Going by that, a loose 2026 release window seems  most  likely at this point in time.

Interested in staying up to date with the  Final Fantasy VII Remake?  If so, don’t forget to check in with the devs over on their joint social feed here . If we happen to spot anything even the slightest bit newsworthy over the next several months, we’ll be sure to fill you in on all the key details right here on gaming.net.

So, what’s your take? Do you think we’ll be seeing a third part to the  Final Fantasy series at any point over the next several years? Let us know your thoughts over on our socials here .

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 is "in the same situation today" as Rebirth was when development on the first game ended

Revival? Remnants? Return?

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth - the second part in the trilogy remaking the 1997 classic - is just around the corner, but the inevitable third and final entry is also chugging along at a steady pace.

When asked about the transition from Rebirth to the third part, in an interview with Julien Chieze, director Naoki Hamaguchi says, "Of course, I cannot tell you what stage we are at, but we have already made progress on the script and we are thinking about certain developments." The topic starts at around the 41 minute mark, if you'd like to see the full discussion.)

Producer Yoshinori Kitase previously revealed that a "tentative first draft" had been completed for the third part - Remnants, Revival, whatever it ends up being called. Hamaguchi's latest comments don’t negate Kitase's, though I imagine the script is going through rewrites as development begins in earnest.

"When we got to the end of the development for Remake," the director continues, "we started talking about a sequel with [writer Kazushige Nojima] and I think we can say that we are in the same situation today." There was a four year gap between Remake and Rebirth's releases, so hopefully the third entry comes around just as quickly.

Following the ending of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, it was pretty easy to imagine what a sequel would look like. Cloud and Crew stared out into a hopeful horizon with the promise of a more open Midgar in the future. Theorizing about the third part is a little trickier, though, because the development team has continually teased fans about Rebirth's (potentially) heartbreaking finale, as they do once again in the interview above.

"Those that played the original know that the story takes a turn at the City of the Ancients," Kitase teases, with a smile that makes me sort of fearful. "Players eagerly await that decisive moment… I would just tell people to play and experience that moment for themselves. And for my part, I think that would be a good place to end the game."

Clearly,  that scene  has been remixed to some extent, but we'll need to wait for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth to launch on February 29 before we find out how.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s demo teased two of the original’s most lethal secret boss battles.

Final Fantasy 7's Remake Trilogy Comes With One Massive Downside

Despite the massive success of the Final Fantasy Remake trilogy so far, its development cycle sets an unfortunate precedent for future remakes.

  • Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's success sets a new standard for video game remakes by giving the classic game a complete overhaul.
  • Fans eagerly anticipate the future of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy and potential future remakes, despite potential drawbacks.
  • Developing high-quality remakes like Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy takes immense time and effort, setting a challenging precedent. For example, a potential FF8 remake in the same vein would likely take until the 2040s to wrap up at this rate, meaning fans will be waiting a long time for their favorites to get a touch-up.

The Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy has already proven to be immensely successful, and this includes Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth , as its early previews and demos have garnered high praise from fans and critics. This is due in large part to the fact that Square Enix has gone above and beyond simply enhancing the classic game's visuals, and instead has set a standard for video game remakes by giving Final Fantasy 7 a complete overhaul while remaining faithful to the source material.

As fans gear up for the second chapter of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy and one of the biggest releases of 2024, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth , they continue to wait in anticipation for what may come next for the series, including the next mainline installment and any potential future remakes. However, regardless of its incredible success, the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy sets an unfortunate precedent for the future, especially if Square Enix plans to do more remakes after Final Fantasy 7 's is completed.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's Companion Restriction is a Huge Drawback

Final fantasy 7 remake's development sets an unfortunate precedent for the future.

Development for the first chapter of the Remake trilogy, Final Fantasy 7 Remake , began in late 2015 and the full game was released in 2020. Now, with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth releasing this year, if the pattern continues, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 may not launch until 2028 or 2029. However, the length of time between each of these games isn't what the real issue is. The main problem with how long it has taken to develop the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy lies in what could potentially come after it.

Final Fantasy 7 may be considered the best Final Fantasy game ever made, but it is far from being the only one worthy of a remake. For instance, fans would love to see a remake of Final Fantasy 8 , as it has been regarded as one of Final Fantasy 7 's strongest competitors when it comes to its story, characters, gameplay, and music. Final Fantasy 10 is another great remake candidate , along with Final Fantasy 9 , although Final Fantasy 10 may be less in need of one than its predecessor.

If Square Enix were to start development on a remake of Final Fantasy 8 ...it's likely the full remake of Final Fantasy 8 wouldn't be finished and released until somewhere between 2040 and 2045.

Unfortunately, if the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy's development has proven anything, it's that developing a remake of its caliber takes a lot of time. Specifically, by the time the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy is completed, it will have been almost fifteen years since its development began. If Square Enix were to start development on a remake of Final Fantasy 8 , for instance, and it chose to release it in three parts just as it is doing with the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, it's likely the full remake of Final Fantasy 8 wouldn't be finished and released until somewhere between 2040 and 2045.

This is all speculation, of course, but it is perhaps one of the most disheartening truths of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake . There is little doubt that the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy has been a lot of work for Square Enix, especially considering how seemingly spotless it is and how massive installments like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth are turning out to be. As such, it's difficult to imagine the developer wanting to continue this kind of work much longer in the future. Still, it has long proven its dedication to its fans, so it may very well choose to continue shelling out remakes that match the quality of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, regardless of how long it might take to do so.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 Will Feature Airship Travel

  • Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's sequel will feature the return of airship travel using Cid's Highwind, a beloved element from the original game.
  • The third and final installment of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series is reportedly already being written, confirming it as a trilogy.
  • Although fans may have spotted the Highwind in trailers, players will likely have to wait until the next installment to pilot the airship themselves due to challenges in implementing it.

The currently-unnamed third installment in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake saga will see the return of one of the original’s most popular elements: airship travel using Cid’s trusty vessel, the Highwind. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is set to finally launch later this month, and will pick up the story of Cloud Strife and company where 2020’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake left off. Square Enix has confirmed that these two games are part of a trilogy, and the third and final installment is reportedly already being written as of this writing.

Airships are a common recurrence in the Final Fantasy series, and Final Fantasy 7 ’s take on the trope remains one of the most fondly remembered in the franchise. Built by Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth party member Cid Highwind , the Highwind is first commandeered by Team AVALANCHE when Tifa and Barret are captured by Shinra. After the subsequent rescue mission, the Highwind serves as a speedy way to travel across the planet. In the original Final Fantasy 7 , the Highwind allows players to backtrack through the game’s World Map, and can even be used to challenge the dreaded Ultimate Weapon boss.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: Demo Length & What Carries Over

Some eagle-eyed fans say that they spotted the Highwind in one of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth ’s trailers , but it might not be until the next installment that players will get to pilot the legendary airship for themselves. FF7 Rebirth creative director Tetsuya Nomura recently spoke with Famitsu (as translated by Twitter user aitaikimochi) to discuss some of the challenges of bringing the world of Final Fantasy 7 to life on modern hardware. One of the topics he discussed was how the size and quality of FF7 Rebirth ’s world map could make implementing airship travel in the next installment difficult.

The Highwind Could Take Flight In Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s Sequel

Sure enough, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will see Cloud and his allies journey through the larger world outside of Midgar’s borders , and a recent trailer from this month’s PlayStation State of Play livestream demonstrated how players will explore the planet’s many different regions. Early previews for FF7 Rebirth have commented on how much bigger the game is than its predecessor, and this is evident in the game’s massive file size.

There will be plenty to see and do in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth , but it looks like players won’t get to fly around the planet in an airship until the next and final chapter in the series. This makes sense, as the Highwind wasn’t introduced as a mode of transport for the party in the original game until after their fateful trip to the Forgotten Capital, which serves as the ending point for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth . Fans will have to wait and see how the ongoing Final Fantasy 7 Remake series implements airship travel in its finale.

How Final Fantasy VII Rebirth harnesses immersive PS5 technology

How Final Fantasy VII Rebirth harnesses immersive PS5 technology

Richly detailed landscapes, redesigned character models, 3D audio, and more: Square Enix talks bringing the world beyond Midgar to PS5.

report 3 ff7 remake

Your adventure beyond Midgar begins in just over a week when Final Fantasy VII Rebirth launches on PS5 February 29 . You may have taken your first steps into that wider world already, thanks to the recent demo, or marveled at that expanse via the State of Play dedicated to the game . And what sights there are. Sprawling, densely detailed open areas and cityscapes, redesigned character models, reimagined threats and new enemies, side-quests and mini-games galore. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth packs a lot in.

To understand how this evocative experience is being achieved on PS5, we turned to the action RPG’s creators, which include the majority of Final Fantasy VII Remake’s development team. Looking under the hood with us? Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Director Naoki Hamaguchi, who has been on the FFVII Remake project since the start, to talk us through how the studio brought the world of FFVII Rebirth to life.

As a developer, what were your first impressions of the technology of the PS5?

With SSDs improving data loading speeds and allowing necessary resources to be loaded instantly, we felt that significant changes were needed in the system design to ensure a smooth gaming experience without any loading times for players. In fact, to take advantage of the high-speed SSDs in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the graphics pipeline and asset streaming system have been revamped from those of the previous title.

What learnings did you take from developing Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade to help you develop Final Fantasy VII Rebirth?

From the beginning, we were conscious of the disc size for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and we made it an absolute requirement for the disc size to be within 150G— even including the world map—while still allowing for cinematic locations to exist as they did in Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade. (Intergrade has a disc size of about 80GB.)  For texture compression, experiencing the practical use of Oodle Kraken* and Oodle Texture** in Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade was very helpful in planning the disc size for this game. While the PS5 is equipped with an SSD which dramatically improves loading speed, there is still a limit to the size of the original disc that can be read, so this technology is truly indispensable.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was created as a PS5 game first and foremost, so how did you take advantage of the hardware when it came to the graphics and the gameplay?

To create a sense of density within the world map, rather than simply polishing how it looked within a single screenshot, we focused on increasing the actual “quantity” of assets to enhance the feeling of a well-populated map. PS5 has implemented a new PrimitiveShader as its own geometry pipeline, and in combination with the ComputeShader, the rendering pipeline was designed to be able to render a large quantity of assets. This approach also matched well with the SSD, which could load a large number of assets instantly. Through this, players can expect a beautiful, diverse, and expansive world to explore in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

How did you leverage the PS5 SSD’s capabilities in this game?

The PS4 version of Final Fantasy VII Remake had to be preloaded due to loading speed constraints, which squeezed the memory capacity and compromised assets. Streaming was also necessary, as we knew that the seamless world we needed to build for this game would be even more demanding in terms of memory usage compared to previous games. One of the challenges we found with Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade was that, in most cases after loading, the CPU processing time required to expand memory for additional space was too time-consuming, due to the high speed of SSDs. For this title, the CPU load for memory expansion is set to be as close to zero as much as possible, and the file format is designed to be a memory-allocated layout to take advantage of the high loading speed of SSDs. In particular, the pipelines for rendering and streaming background models were newly designed. The performance of PS5’s high-speed SSDs was incredibly helpful in loading assets in much finer increments, enabling us to render objects in a highly detailed manner when they’re up close, and more roughly when they’re in the distance.

Character models in both Final Fantasy VII Remake and the PS5 upgraded version Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade were – and still are – visually impressive. Did PS5 allow you to add any additional details to the returning cast’s designs?

The characters in Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, including Cloud, were created based on the PS4 generation of consoles. This time, the models have been changed to meet the specifications of the PS5, and the main characters have been completely redesigned, from their hair to their outfits. In addition to the renewed character’s expressions during close-up shots, I’d love for people to take a close look at their detailed hair and skin as well. I believe you’ll be able to palpably feel the enhancement in physical textures and details.

Besides modeling and textures, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth also features enhanced shading, animation, and lighting, and the overall character visuals that combine these various components greatly exceed those of Final Fantasy VII Remake, so please look forward to it.

Similarly, the cast expands with the arrival of Cid, Cait Sith and Vincent. Did you apply the same creative process as the Final Fantasy VII Remake’s cast when reimagining these characters with modern technology?

New characters were created using essentially the same process, but I can say that this flow has been refined since Final Fantasy VII Remake. The majority of the development team from the previous title has continued working on Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, enabling us to start production with prior experience already gained and allowing us to really polish the physical textures and details of the new characters, Cid, Cait Sith, and Vincent. We hope you will take a closer look at these characters when you play the game.

PS5 developers have offered players the option to enjoy their games in either a Graphics mode that prioritizes 4K graphics, or Performance mode that prioritizes smooth action at 60FPS. Can you share what we can expect from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and why you decided on these options?

In Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, there is also a Graphics Mode that emphasizes 4K graphics and a Performance Mode that emphasizes 60 FPS, which users can freely select within the option menu. Selecting between these two modes has become a trend among players of PS5 games, so we felt it was an essential feature for this title as well.

The DualSense wireless controller’s unique features such as haptic feedback and adaptive triggers can immerse players more fully into the experience. How did you leverage these features for the game?

We’ve actively incorporated haptic feedback and adaptive triggers in battles and cutscenes— game segments with strong action elements and cinematic presentation— so that everything conveyed through the graphics is also directly synchronized with the controller too. In addition, because there are many minigames for this title, we plan to utilize the DualSense function for each minigame. In addition to haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, you can also experience a wide range of features, such as the motion sensor, built-in microphone, and touchpad.

How did you utilize 3D audio?

This title makes full use of Tempest3D audio. This allows for most of the voices, sound effects, and background music in the field to come from each object and character, with the sound varying according to its distance from the camera and the surrounding space. The 3D audio system also actively responds to verticality, and in some areas, we’ve placed different sounds above players for them to experience movement and objects within that dimension of space as well. We look forward to you experiencing the realistic and immersive ambiance that comes from this 3D audio, such as the Shinra helicopter flying over the field, or the various ambient noises within the vast Grasslands area, or the background music from the sky when you’re exploring the Gold Saucer. The recent SDK version upgrade also supports the Dolby Atmos output, so if you have a soundbar, speaker system, or other compatible devices in addition to headphones, you can enjoy this output as well.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade included a Photo Mode: is this feature returning in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and has it had any changes?

Photo mode is, of course, implemented in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. A photo frame function has been additionally implemented for this title as well, making it possible to select a frame of your choice for all of your favorite snapshots. In addition, Photo Mode itself is integrated into the game’s worldview, with side content featuring a photo enthusiast character named Snaps, who asks Cloud to snap pictures at various photo locations around the world map. Completing these requests will unlock additional photo mode features, so please look forward to those as well.

Is there any particular scene, location, moment of feature in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth that you feel really encapsulates what you’ve been able to achieve thanks to PS5?

To be honest, every scene utilizes so much of the PS5’s specs that it could not be realized without it… but if I had to pick one, it would be the town location. Towns require a large number of NPCs to be placed, while also increasing the density of assets in general. Crafting a sense of vibrancy and life for the NPCs in the town is something we put special care into, and I think you will be able to fully experience the PS5’s capabilities by walking through the streets. Personally, I love how the town of Junon is depicted during the inauguration parade of President Rufus, so I hope you can experience that for yourself in the game as well.

What other PS5 games have impressed you? From a developer’s point of view, how did you feel that they took advantage of the PS5’s capabilities?

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was a game that let me experience the capabilities of the PS5 the most out of the titles released in 2023. Utilizing SSDs truly sped up Spider-Man’s web-swings and wall runs, enhancing my exhilaration as I played. In addition, the fast travel feature was jaw-dropping, and I almost felt moved by how there was virtually no wait time when traveling via the map screen. Even from a developer’s perspective, I felt this was a game that could not have been actualized without the PS5’s high-speed SSD.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth launches on PS5 February 29.

I am already at 6/10, but I can't seem to reproduce it to make any progress in the battle report.
