Tools of any material except stone or diamond can receive up to Efficiency V through the enchanting table . Stone and diamond tools can only receive up to level IV through the enchanting table, but can be given Efficiency V by combining 2 items with Efficiency IV in an anvil . Diamond tools with Efficiency V can also be found in end city and bastion remnant chests.

The proper tool for a block must be used in order to receive the speed benefit; the enchantment has no effect if the block is mined with the incorrect tool. See the article above for details on mining speed.

Efficiency applied to an axe increases the chance that the axe may stun a shield , with the base chance being 25% and a 5% increase for each level of Efficiency.‌ [ Java Edition only ] This only applies when the player is not sprinting, since sprint attacks already guarantee a shield stun.

The efficiency Minecraft enchantment is one of the better buffs out there. Any item powered with efficiency will perform its actions much quicker. Whether this is a pickaxe, axe, shovel, or hoe, powering up items with efficiency will boost their speed – making you more efficient!

This guide explains exactly how the efficiency enchantment works, how you can find it, and how you can power it up…

What Does Efficiency Do in Minecraft?

With each efficiency level, enchanted tools become quicker at performing their action. Whether this is mining, cutting, digging, shearing, or hoeing, efficiency enchanted items will be quicker than their basic counterparts.

No matter what type of block you are harvesting, any actions become quicker. Pickaxes will mine faster, axes will cut with more speed, and shovels will take down dirt and gravel like never before.

We explain the efficiency enchantment speeds and the exact stats for each level in more detail later in this guide.

What tools can be enchanted with efficiency

Any of the following tools can be enhanced with the efficiency enchantment.

How does Efficiency work in Minecraft

You must use the tool on the relevant resource blocks. For instance, an axe with efficiency will cut wooden blocks faster, but won’t have any difference on stone or dirt.

Pickaxes with efficiency will mine stone and ores faster, but won’t break wood or dirt at any different speed.

This enchantment is a great way to collect resources faster.

Axes gain a second bonus from being enchanted with efficiency. Whenever you hit an enemy or player with a shield, axes have a chance to stun the shield. Efficiency increases the chance of causing this stun. This is calculated from the base chance of 25%, with a 5% increase for each level

The following list shows how much efficiency improves an axes’ chance to create the stun effect.

  • Level I = +25%
  • Level II = +30%
  • Level III = +35%
  • Level IV = +40%
  • Level V= +45%

How to Get the Efficiency Minecraft Enchantment

Items can be enchanted with efficiency either using an enchanting table or an enchanting book. Because efficiency books are quite rare, the enchanting table method is the recommended choice.

To power up items with the efficiency enchantment in Minecraft, simply follow these steps.

  • Build an enchanting table (1 book, 4 obsidian, and 2 diamonds).
  • Place the enchantment table and right-click it.
  • Place your desired item into the enchanting slot.
  • Load in some lapis lazuli – 1 for each level of enchanting you want.
  • Mouse over the three available enchanting options and choose one that has “Efficiency” in the tooltip.
  • Voila! You now have an enchanted tool.

Anvil Method

If you have an efficiency enchanted book, you can power apply it to any tool via an anvil. You can obtain efficiency enchantment books from looting dungeons, and Bastion chests, or if you loot them.

It’s worth noting that for stone and diamond tools, the enchanting table method can only reach the highest level of IV. You can level diamond or stone tools to efficiency V by combining two of the same items with level IV together.

You can find tools with level IV enchantments fairly commonly in chests in Bastion Remnants or an End City.

How many levels of efficiency enchantment are there?

There are five levels of the efficiency Minecraft enchantment, each one increases the action speed by 5%, with efficiency V being the highest level.

efficiency Level i

Increases activity speed by 5%

efficiency Level ii

Increases activity speed by 10%

efficiency Level iii

Increases activity speed by 15%

efficiency Level iv

Increases activity speed by 20%

efficiency Level V

Increases activity speed by 25% This is the maximum level of efficiency

How does the Efficiency Enchantment Effect Mining Speed?

Efficiency increases mining speed by 5% per level of enchanting. So the maximum boost to mining speed will be 25%. So if you mine a block that would take 1 second, it would only take 0.75 seconds when using efficiency V.

Enjoy your new mining speed!

Is Efficiency IV the best?

Efficiency IV is not the best level of this enchantment. You can actually enchant items up to level V efficiency, although you can’t do this simply from an enchanting table.

How fast is Efficiency 5?

Efficiency 5 will give a 25% speed boost to any activity – provided you are trying to break the right block. For example, a diamond axe cutting a wood block that would take 1 second, would only take 0.75s if it was buffed with efficiency 5.

Can you get Efficiency 5 on a diamond tool?

Getting diamond or stone tools to efficiency level V isn’t as simple as using an enchanting table. You’ll either need to use an efficiency level 5 book or combine two of the same item with efficiency IV.

Does Minecraft have Efficiency 5?

Minecraft does have efficiency 5, although stone and diamond tools can’t get this buff directly from an enchanting table. To obtain level 5 in the game on diamond tools, you’re going to need to combine two level IV items.

Yes, You Can Get Efficiency V from Villagers in Minecraft – Here‘s How

Trading with villagers is absolutely the best way to get the max level Efficiency V enchantment in Minecraft. While it takes some effort, the payoff of blazingly fast mining is well worth it!

In this comprehensive guide, I‘ll cover everything you need to know about getting Efficiency V books from villagers:

  • What Efficiency V does
  • Why it‘s so valuable
  • How to efficiently find and trade with villagers
  • Tips to get villagers trading Efficiency V books
  • Is Efficiency V worth the effort?

I‘ve played Minecraft for years and helped tons of players turbo charge their mining, so I‘m excited to share my best villager trading secrets with you!

What Does Efficiency V Do?

First let‘s quickly cover what the Efficiency enchantment does.

Efficiency speeds up how fast you can break blocks with tools like pickaxes, shovels and axes. The higher the Efficiency level, the less time it takes to mine each block.

Here‘s a table showing the mining speed increase for each level:

As you can see, Efficiency V grants a massive 150% boost, making mining insanely fast! No other enchantment accelerates gathering resources anywhere near this much.

Why Efficiency V is So Valuable

For miners, builders, and anyone who breaks a ton of blocks, having tools with Efficiency V is an incredible advantage.

Some key benefits include:

  • Gather resources like stone, iron and diamonds way faster
  • Clear out space for builds and projects in no time
  • Insta-mine weak blocks like dirt instantly
  • Speedrun through the game by mining faster
  • Have more time for exploring, fighting mobs, etc

Efficiency V lets you get more done in less time, while also reducing the grind of mining. It‘s an absolute must-have for any serious player!

According to popular Minecraft guidebook The Advanced Player‘s Guide , Efficiency V is "one of the most useful enchantments in the game and well worth seeking out." I couldn‘t agree more!

Obtaining Efficiency V Books from Villagers

Now that you know why Efficiency V is so great, let‘s get into the details of getting it from villagers…

There are a two key steps:

  • Find a Librarian villager
  • Keep trading with them until they sell an Efficiency V book

Finding a Librarian Villager

Librarians have a chance to sell enchanted books, making them the only villagers that can trade Efficiency books.

To find Librarians, look for villagers without professions. Place down lecterns one at a time until you see sparkles above a villager‘s head – this means they‘ve transformed into a Librarian!

I like to set up "villager transformers" near my breeding area so I can mass produce Librarians:

Villager Transformers

With this setup, I get a steady stream of new Librarians to check for good trades.

Trading to Unlock Efficiency V

Once you‘ve found Librarians, trade with them repeatedly to unlock new tiers of trades.

For each tier unlocked, they will offer new trades with a chance to sell Efficiency V books.

According to advanced statistics from the Official Minecraft Wiki , here are the chances of a Librarian selling Efficiency V:

As you can see, higher level Librarians have a much better chance to offer Efficiency V. Getting them to Master (level 5) provides the best odds.

I like to create large trading halls with many Librarians (example below). This gives me more chances to find Efficiency V trades as I level up dozens of Librarians together.

Trading Hall Example

A large trading hall with many Librarians increases chances of unlocking Efficiency V trades (Image credit: ilmango )

With this setup, I was able to get multiple Librarians selling Efficiency V books fairly quickly.

Is Efficiency V Worth the Effort?

Absolutely! Going through the process of finding and leveling up Librarians to get Efficiency V books is well worth it.

To demonstrate why, let‘s compare some mining stats:

As you can see, Efficiency V mines diamond ore 2.5x faster than no enchantments, and 25% faster than Efficiency IV.

The table below shows how many more diamond ores you can mine per hour with Efficiency V:

So Efficiency V allows you to gather 7,650 more diamonds per hour – that‘s huge!

For serious miners, these time savings really add up over the course of a game. The small one-time effort to get Efficiency V pays off enormously.

In my opinion as a Minecraft expert, Efficiency V is by far the most valuable enchantment in the game. Trading with villagers to get it is an absolute must.

I hope this guide has been helpful for you! Let me know if you have any other questions – I‘m happy to help you turbo charge your mining and gathering in Minecraft.

Minecraft Player Builds a Walmart in the Game

7 best evil endings in rpgs, ranked, zelda: tears of the kingdom's successor has an easy way to level up the armor system.

Minecraft  and the pickaxe go together like bread and butter, it's practically impossible to separate the two concepts. One of the first things that players will do after gathering some wood is make a pickaxe, and it signifies the moment where their journey truly starts. Over time, the concept of the "ultimate pickaxe" has changed, with each new update introducing powerful materials or enchantments that up the ante. Part one of the Caves and Cliffs update just dropped, and although it added some new items and crafting materials, the ultimate pickaxe remains the same. This will likely be the case once the second part comes as well.

The pickaxe is required to mine many different types of ore and rock in  Minecraft , and as the name would suggest, this is a very important facet of the game. An iron pickaxe will do the trick for almost everything outside of obsidian and ancient debris, but there are plenty of options that last longer, mine faster, and look cooler that players can use.

RELATED:  Minecraft: How to Make End Crystals

The ultimate pickaxe is essentially the one that mines the fastest, has the highest durability, and has all the possible enchantments it can have. In the current state of the game, this would be Minecraft 's relatively new Netherite Pickaxe with Efficiency 5, Unbreaking 3, Fortune 3, and Mending 1 on it. Getting one of these is a huge process though, and players wanting to try it for themselves will need to be patient and dedicated. Here's a step by step list of how to get one.

The first thing players are going to need to do is get a Netherite Pickaxe. There are several steps to complete this part of the process as well:

  • Step 1: Find three diamonds and forge a diamond pick.
  • Step 2: Find four Ancient Debris, smelt it into Netherite Scraps, and craft it together with four gold ingots to forge a Netherite Ingot.
  • Step 3: Craft a Smithing Table and upgrade the diamond pick into a Netherite Pickaxe.

With the Netherite Pickaxe in hand, players now need to work on the enchantments. In order to have the best chance at success, players will need a fully powered enchanting table.

  • Step 1: Craft an enchanting table and surround it with 15 bookshelves .
  • Step 2: Enchant as many books as it takes to get four Enchanted Books with Efficiency 5, Unbreaking 3, Fortune 3, and Mending 1.
  • Step 3: Craft an anvil and use it to enchant the Netherite Pickaxe with the books.

While this may seem simple on paper, players will ultimately end up needing at least 90 wooden planks, 50 leather, and 150 paper, 33 iron, four obsidian, five diamonds, four Ancient Debris, four gold ingots, a bunch of Lapis Lazuli, and a whole lot of experience and luck. Needless to say, this process will take a long time (with the diamonds and Ancient Debris for Netherite Ingots being the hardest to find), but the end result is the fastest pickaxe in the game with the highest durability, the greatest item yield from mining, and the ability to repair itself as the player earns experience.

Minecraft  is available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.

2. write something every day, 3. watch tv and listen to radio and podcasts in the target language, 4. read books at your actual level, 5. branch out from textbooks, 6. learn what interests you, 7. take initiative and personalize your learning style, and one more thing....

Summary: Using visual elements is the best method to learn new words, as they trigger associations in our head, making it easier to remember permanently, not just learn by rote.

To understand and speak a language, several thousand words will be enough to get by in conversation and while reading modern writing. You’ll need more if you’re going to tackle more specialized or academic writing, or perhaps if you’re going to become a translator or interpreter. But we all have to start somewhere.

How do you know which words to learn and remember?

We live in the digital era when the internet surrounds us everywhere. So, check the list of most widely used words in the language you’re learning or download some apps that show you popular words, helping you to remember them along the way.

Summary: Write blog posts, diary entries, shopping lists, notes to yourself or anything else that is already part of your daily life, but do it all in your target language. Using grammar in practice will improve your skills many times over.

Certainly, grammar is important, and no one is going to say that you shouldn’t learn it. But just writing sometimes, free of grammar concerns, is very helpful for language learning, too.

Regardless of the language, grammar is always tricky for non-native speakers (well, let’s be honest: it’s often tricky for native speakers, too). All those gerunds, tenses, infinitives and exceptions are useful when you write academic essays, do research or write professional emails. You need to build a foundation of great grammar in order to speak and write correctly.

However, if your primary goal is to communicate, prepare for a trip abroad or master just the basics, don’t stress about this too much. If you’re seriously turned off by the nitty gritty of grammar, don’t torture yourself trying to remember all the rules at once.

Many learners get discouraged by the idea of studying grammar and end up avoiding their daily practice. Don’t procrastinate. On days when grammar fills you with dread, treat yourself to some movies, games or music videos in your target language. Keep building familiarity with the language every day, and you’ll start learning grammar naturally.

Some educators recommend starting off with full immersion—constant exposure to the language through a diversity of authentic materials—and never cracking open a textbook or starting formal grammar study until you’ve developed basic proficiency in the language. You can always give this route a try!

Summary: To develop your listening skills, you can watch movies or TV shows with subtitles, listen to a radio show in your target language, play games , try to understand all words from your favorite songs and so on. Keep it fun and casual! Listening to  TED lectures  is always a good decision, too.

While learning a foreign language, we usually pay lots of undue attention to vocabulary and grammar. Our goal is to learn how to read, write and speak.

That’s all well and good, but we often forget about listening to a target language despite the fact that it’s key to understanding and communication.

Learners too often discover the hard way that speaking a language and understanding it aren’t the same thing.

Sometimes one can speak but can hardly understand native speakers at all while listening to songs or watching a movie in the target language. Never underestimate the importance of listening skills; you need to practice them on a daily basis.

Summary: If you’re at the beginner level of learning, children’s books would be the best option for you. Intermediate and advanced learners can always try reading simplified versions of classics to learn some new words and grammar rules. If you’re pretty advanced, you can start tiptoeing towards the classics. Start with modern classics.

I bet your past or current language teachers have assigned you the task to read a book in the language you’re learning, make a vocabulary list of unknown words from it, learn them and discuss the book in the classroom afterward.

Such exercises are great unless your teacher asks you to read classic literature in the target language. They often don’t, and instead opt for abridged and otherwise simplified reading material.

First of all, it can be difficult to understand a plot and get pleasure from reading a book if you don’t know the meaning of most words. The “extensive reading” method encourages learners to choose texts where they know 95% of the words on any given page .

Secondly, books of classics may contain lots of archaic vocabulary (let’s take Shakespeare, for example). There’s no real need to learn all words from classics, as no one uses them in everyday language anymore.

However, many language learners make the mistake that teachers strive so hard to avoid—they dive into deep, complex literature and other texts that are well outside their reading level. They want to read what they want to read, even if they can’t read it! As you may already know, it can be very discouraging when you don’t understand most of what you’re reading.

You’re not giving yourself the chance to develop good reading habits. You won’t learn how to get into the flow of a native text if you’re constantly stopping to use your dictionary. You also won’t be able to pick up words via context if most of the language is way above your head (for the time being), and this kind of deductive work is critical for learning a language effectively.

Summary: Use all sorts of resources for learning your target language: newspapers, vlogs, novels, short stories, comments sections, advertisements, grocery lists—anything!

Going by the book is one of the biggest mistakes you can make while learning a foreign language.

The textbook can give you all the essential building blocks, but it can’t take you much farther.

Have you ever heard the people speaking in the audio files accompanying English textbooks? They’re speaking perfectly correct English, but they sound a bit forced and awkward at times. That’s because they’re reading a script designed for learners. It’s easy on the ears, and great for becoming familiar with the basics of language, but you’ll probably never hear a native speaker who talks quite like that.

Slang, idioms, jokes, regional dialects, pop culture references…they usually can’t be learned from standard textbooks. To really understand native speakers, you must learn casual language.

This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t use textbooks at all. Some of them are worth trying, and one can find many reasons to use modern textbooks : They’re well-designed, they provide useful content and a road map for learning, they give lots of practice opportunities and they usually offer audio components.

Summary: Find materials about subjects that interest you. If you’re an accountant, that might be accounting statements from a large foreign company, or if you’re an art aficionado, read the latest museum exhibition guides in their original language.

Some learners aren’t super passionate about languages, and instead consider reaching fluency just another task to complete. It’s just another task on a life list, bucket list or resume building plan. There are a couple of noteworthy problems with this:

  • It’s very difficult to pinpoint the exact moment you reach fluency, so you may never be able to check the “task complete” box.
  • You don’t know a language just because you score all A’s and 100’s on your exams.
  • You need to find some personal motivation coming from within to really master a language without ever losing focus.

You can’t just study for the test. Fluency doesn’t come until after you’ve put your language skills into action, spoken with natives for hours, listened to native speakers intently and followed their directions. You also need to learn the culture behind the language to a certain extent, or you’ll find a large gap between you and natives while communicating.

Not to mention, you have to constantly be updating your language knowledge. Languages change and develop all the time. Don’t miss a chance to learn the culture of those people whose language you learn, chat with your native speaker friends, watch movies, listen to songs, travel to countries and interact with locals.

Summary: Seek out teachers and fellow students who learn like you like to learn and build a learning community, in real life or online.

This may be the most common mistake made by language learners. They rely on whatever course they’re taking, whether they’re taking it through a college, university or institute online, at home or abroad. This “reliance” comes in two forms:

  • Relying on the course to give you all the material and exposure you need to learn.
  • Holding the course or teacher responsible for your successes and failures.

When you learn a language, it’s good to have a teacher who will help and support you, but it doesn’t mean he or she can do everything for you. Teachers guide you—they can’t inject the language straight into your brain. It’s only you who’s responsible for your learning.

If you feel like the books and materials your school gives you aren’t effective or sufficient on their own, find a different textbook or other language learning materials to accompany the coursework. If the coursework doesn’t target your preferred learning style, learn how you learn best on your own time. If you learn best through music or visual cues, but simply don’t get enough of that in class, take care of yourself at home later.

Don’t only do your homework, study for tests and call it a day. Read and listen to your target language every day, communicate in it, go to language exchange clubs, make friends with native speakers and seek out new articles, blog posts, YouTube videos and more in that language. Become ravenous. Consume as much of the target language as you can on a daily basis.

Ask your school to assist you where needed, manage your emotions and try to stay motivated and optimistic.

If you don’t study properly and perform poorly on tests, take responsibility for this. If you ace all the reading and writing assignments but can’t speak without a heavy accent, then take responsibility for this and double up on speaking practice. The teacher and coursework can only get you so far.

Take these tips to heart and I think you’ll find your language learning journey moves faster than you ever thought it could. It’ll also be more fun!
