Apple unveils the top books :br(l)::br(xl):of 2023 and a new Year in Review experience
Users can browse the top books and audiobooks of 2023 and explore personalized insights about the books they enjoyed this year
Apple Books is the single destination for all the books and audiobooks readers love, featuring the ability to set Reading Goals, organize books into collections, share purchases using Family Sharing, and browse personalized recommendations for new titles.
Today, Apple Books unveiled the top books and audiobooks of 2023 and launched Year in Review, a new in-app experience that helps readers to celebrate the titles, authors, and genres that defined their year. With Year in Review, users can view personalized reading highlights about the books and audiobooks they enjoyed in 2023, including their total time spent reading, the longest book or audiobook they read, the series they completed, their most-read author and genre, and their highest-rated book — all presented in a simple and engaging experience with visuals that are easy to share.
Here’s how to access Year in Review on Apple Books:
Year in Review is available on iPhone and iPad within the Read Now tab under Top Picks to users with at least three titles marked as finished.
To add books or audiobooks, readers can tap and hold on any book in the app and choose Mark as Finished. To change the finished date shown, users can hold down on the book and select Edit Finished Date. For titles read elsewhere, such as in hardcover or paperback, users can search for them in Apple Books and select Mark as Finished to add them to their Year in Review.
Year in Review uses anonymized reader insights to determine a personal reading type. There are six reader types to discover, including The Contemporary for readers of trendy titles; The Completist for readers of multiple books in a series; The Seeker for nonfiction readers; The Wanderer for multigenre readers; The Deep Diver for single-genre readers; or The Free Spirit for readers with wide-ranging interests across the book world.
At the end of a user’s Year in Review, they can see an overview of their year in Books, featuring the total books read and total minutes spent reading, with an accompanying grid of book covers they’ve finished.
To close the chapter on a remarkable year, Apple Books published the Best of 2023, an editorially curated collection of standout books and audiobooks across a variety of genres, and the most popular titles of the year. Topping the charts in many countries were two prominent celebrity memoirs that bookended 2023: Prince Harry’s Spare in January and Britney Spears’s The Woman in Me , narrated by actor Michelle Williams, in October. Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros was also a must-read for fans of romance and fantasy during the spring and summer. Check out the most popular books and audiobooks of 2023 and browse the top charts for all titles on Apple Books.

Savannah Guthrie announces 'very personal' faith-based book 'Mostly What God Does'

Savannah Guthrie is bringing her love of faith to fans through a new book: "Mostly What God Does."
Guthrie, 51, announced her upcoming religion-based book alongside her " Today " co-hosts on Tuesday. "I am so passionate about faith, how it can challenge us and inspire us," she said ahead of the big reveal.
"I’ve decided to share a book. It’s called 'Mostly What God Does' because mostly what God does is love you," Guthrie said, explaining that it is "a bunch of reflections on faith and love and kindness and goodness."
The "Today" co-host got emotional while sharing the news, explaining, "It’s very personal, which is why I’m in tears about it, but also really overjoyed and delighted, but scared because it’s certainly the most personal and vulnerable thing I’ve ever done.
"I’m really passionate about this, and I hope it will be full of love and happiness for everyone," she added.

Guthrie's co-anchor Hoda Kotb was also tearful during Tuesday's announcement, sharing that she has already read some of "Mostly What God Does."
"It doesn’t matter your background. It doesn’t matter your faith. When you read this book, you’ll be touched," Kotb said, to which Guthrie responded, "I hope it's something that speaks to everyone."
Craig Melvin praised his co-host Guthrie, adding, "One of the things that I've always loved and admired about you is that when people around here are at their lowest, you use your faith to lift people up."
"Mostly What God Does" is available on Feb. 20.
Hoda Kotb gets tearful about daughter, Savannah Guthrie talks sexism and tabloid rumors
A description of the book shares that the book is aimed at those who "struggle with your connection to God, or whether you even feel connected to a faith at all."
Guthrie will discuss her own difficulty and connection to her faith with "personal stories from her own joys and sorrows as a daughter, mother, wife, friend, and professional journalist."
The Daytime Emmy winner has previously co-authored two children's books with Allison Oppenheim, including 2017's "Princesses Wear Pants" and its 2018 follow-up "Princesses Save the World."

Hi, I have topik level 3 cert. How can I submit my score during the KIIP pre-test?

Visit the closest immigration office to submit your topik certificate.

How to know the registration period for entering level 0?

I have a klct certificate but how to apply for koriya by working

Very useful information. Though what is the schedule of the program? Is it a weekend (Saturday?) course only? Daily? Also. Can a topik score of 4 completely replace the need for the kiip program if I've been in Korea for 10+ years? I was told I only need 4 levels due to my time here.

hi, I have topik lvl 6. we have to submit the topik certificate to the closest immigration office but I'm not sure ... you mean the immigration office where we register to get our foreign ID cardwhen staying for more than 3 month in Korea? Also,I would like to know how do we register for "class" and when after submitting out topik certificate. and when and where are the class given? because I'm a full time student at a university and I also work part-time on week end so I need to know when are the classes to fix my schedule so I can go to the kiip classes or register to online classes. Thank you ~
How can i create id and passwoed

Hello. I want to study in KIIP but I how can I register I don't know about it. Can you help me
You can request for help in our facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/korean4topik/?ref=bookmarks

Are classes being planned for 2021? There is nothing on the Internet about KIIP in 2021?

Registration is started.
hi i want to register KIIP how? please let me know thank you.
◦ New policy for KIIP level 5 class from Aug 16, 2021: - If you complete the basic course for Understanding Korean Society (Level 5 - 50 hours course) and pass the comprehensive test for permanent residency, you will receive the "Permanent Residence Test (KIPRAT)" certificate (합격증) and the "KIIP completion certificate" (이수증) for applying VISA F2 and F5. Is this a new guideline? So, if you complete level 5 & pass the required tests, can you get the F2 or F5 visa without meeting the income or employment requirements, recent changes they made?
The updated policy is just for KIIP class. Other policy doesn't change. KIIP certificate is just one among various requirements when applying for Visa F2 and F5.

If I'll submit my TOPIK 3 certification I'll get lvl 4 KIIP? Am I should do any KIIP exam?
You will be assigned to level 4 class once you submit your valid TOPIK 3 certificate successfully. You don't need to take the pre-test.

To waive the naturalization interview, you have to pass the 귀화 exam with 60 point or higher. The kiip completion certificate (이수증) won't help in this case. It is only useful when you apply for F5.

Hi recently i was upgraded to level 5 without taking level 4 mid term test because i joined level 4 class twice and upgraded to level 5. How can i download level 4 certificate now.
Hi, you haven't passed the level 4, so you can't download the level 4 certificate. 2nd, taking the level 4 twice won't help you to be upgraded to the level 5. You recent upgrade from level 4 to level 5 is most likely because of the autopass policy implemented in the 2nd half of 2021 for persons who completed the level 4 class. However, if you haven't enrolled in the level 5 class, the upgrade will be reverted back from 2022. That means you will have to take the mid-term exam to be promoted again to the level 5. For details, read the notice in this post: https://www.koreantopik.com/2018/12/2019-guide-to-new-kiip-test-registration.html If you are still doubt about this, please share your question in our FB KIIP group for better answer: https://www.facebook.com/korean4topik
do you have to take a topic test to enter the kiip program or can you skip that and just take the pretest?
You can choose either submitting your topik score or taking a kiip pretest. No need to take both of them.

Hi. I am starting from level 0. After completion, do I need to pay in order to pass to the next level (1,2...)? or do I just need to do a free test to pass?
No, From level 0-3, you don't need to pay any fee in order to advance the next level.

Hello. When I search for upcoming classes, there is nothing listed on the website. I searched within a time period of 1 year, but it shows that no classes are being offered. How can find information about upcoming classes? Thank you.
In your "My Page" on socinet, select English as the display language. Then, you should assign the "vicarious class application" and "deputizing attendance application". And make sure, your "current stage progress" is "before applying class", not "사회통합프로그램신청전". You can see the similar picture guide in step 3 in the link: https://www.koreantopik.com/2018/05/how-to-apply-for-kiip-level-test.html
This guideline is updated on 06 Jun 2023. Hope you enjoy studying at koreantopik.com

Hi, i have many questions about KINAT I’m married to a korean but not currently in korea but while return in the future. I passed KIIP level 5 (70 + 30hs) last year. How long do I have to take the exam? can I take it even after 2 or 3 years? And how many times can I retake it? After passing the exam, how long do I have to apply for my citizenship? Can i leave the country while waiting for my citizenship to be processed? And do I have to stay in the country after receiving it? Thank you!
You can take the KIIP exam within 2 years after finishing your KIIP class. Within that 2 years, you can take as many tests as you want. However, the test is not free and it is quite time consuming. It is better to prepare well for the test before taking it. As I heard so far, you can apply for citizenship at any time after passing the KINAT test. You can leave Korea for a short time while waiting for your citizenship.

South Korea’s City of Books
With some 900 book-related businesses, Paju Book City, northwest of Seoul, is an intentional and euphoric celebration of books and the bookmaking process.

A satellite city 22 miles northwest of Seoul, South Korea, Paju is small, with a population of around half a million. The streets are quieter than those of the bustling capital, the air cleaner and the pace of life half a beat slower.
While many people know the city for its military base, Paju is also home to the nation’s elaborate book publishing hub — officially known as Paju Publishing Culture, Information and National Industrial Park but commonly referred to as Paju Book City. Around 900 book-related businesses, including printing presses, distribution companies and design studios, line the streets, and signs reading “Paju Book City” are everywhere.

The government opened the publishing hub in 1998, after almost a decade of planning and as part of a larger effort to modernize the nation. South Korea’s book industry used to be dispersed, but, according to Lee Sang-yeon, a manager of one of Paju’s primary cultural facilities, the Asia Publication Culture and Information Center, “the founders of the publishing city thought this scattered, decentralized way of creating books was inefficient.”
In clustering all of its bookmakers in one place, South Korea hoped to better produce and distribute a major part of its culture. Books are a big business in South Korea. Last year, more than 115 million books were sold nationwide, according to the Korean Publisher’s Association.
The book city’s mission — to “actively support culture and arts based on books” — can be seen in buildings all over town. Photopia, a serene purple structure curved like an ocean wave, serves as a photography production and processing studio. One publishing company, Dulnyouk, has its headquarters in a towering, geometric structure that resembles the kind of cumbersome transport vehicle found in “Star Wars.” Quaint cafes, where visitors can sip their drinks while reading, dot Paju’s street corners. Everything is designed to preserve and spread a love for books.
At the core of Paju Book City is where Lee works, the Asia Publication Culture and Information Center, a five-story complex that includes an education facility, events hall and exhibition space, and that serves as a social and professional nucleus for local publishers. The center draws almost 10,000 visitors a year.
On the building’s first floor is the Forest of Wisdom, a central library with tens of thousands of books on display and tens of thousands more in storage, according to Lee. Floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, some more than 25 feet tall, line the walls. Though visitors are not allowed to check out books — fiction and nonfiction, reference texts, picture books and other works — they are welcome to browse the shelves and read in common areas. The seemingly boundless collection means guests include families with children, young couples on dates and groups of older people on social outings. The center includes a hotel for anyone who wants to spend the night.
The publication center also prides itself in preserving ancient texts and the practice of typography. The Book City Letterpress Museum, adjacent to the center’s main building, holds in its collection traditional printing equipment, including 35 million metal character blocks.
Unsurprisingly, schools love to visit Paju. On a Friday afternoon last month, first graders in matching school uniforms read along a flight of stairs, some sitting in pairs, others alone. Elsewhere, a class of high school juniors and seniors discovered the printing and publishing process through a hands-on lesson.
Every fall, the center hosts a book festival, bringing together local authors, artists and book lovers. This year’s event, the 12th annual gathering, included art exhibitions, live music, a typing competition — in which contestants, sitting at typewriters row upon row, were judged on speed and accuracy — and, of course, ample opportunity to delight in the culture of books.
“Even as the world becomes more digital, the charm of books is never lost on readers,” Lee said. “Those who love to read books will always come back.”

Liz Cheney ‘s new book is a scathing portrait of Republican “enablers and collaborators” who are responsible for the continued hold that Donald Trump has on the party, CNN reported on Tuesday.
With Cheney’s Oath and Honor set to be published next week, CNN Jamie Gangel obtained an advance copy and described it as an “unflinching” look at her former GOP colleagues. Cheney was ousted from Republican leadership as she continued to criticize Trump in the aftermath of the January 6th attack on the Capitol.

On that date, before the attack on the Capitol, Cheney recounts being in the GOP House cloakroom and members were asked to sign on to electoral vote objection sheets. Many members knew that it was a “farce,” and one member, Rep. Mark Green (R-TN) signed his name and said, to no one in particular, The things we do for the Orange Jesus,” Cheney wrote.
Cheney also wrote that two days after the election, Kevin McCarthy , then the House GOP leader, told her that he talked to Trump and that “he knows it’s over. He needs to go through all the stages of grief.” Cheney also wrote that she had an exchange with Mike Johnson, then a relatively unknown congressman from Louisiana, about his pressuring of members to sign on to a legal brief arguing that election results from four states Joe Biden won should be thrown out.
“When I confronted him about flaws in his legal arguments, Johnson would often concede or say something to the effect of, ‘We just need to do this one last thing for Trump,'” Cheney wrote, per CNN.
Johnson was elected House speaker in October, succeeding McCarthy after his ouster. The new speaker has since endorsed Trump in the 2024 race.
Cheney lost the Republican primary last year in her reelection bid, as McCarthy and other Republicans campaigned for her opponent. By that time, Cheney had taken a spot on the January 6th Committee as vice chair, one of only two GOP members along with Adam Kinzinger.
McCarthy, Cheney wrote, told her that he visited because Trump’s team was “really worried” about him. “Trump’s not eating, so they asked me to come see him,” McCarthy said.
But some Republicans were upset about McCarthy’s visit, and circulated a text that featured a photo of McCarthy and Trump along with the clip from Jerry Maguire , when Tom Cruise’s title character tells Renee Zellweger’s Dorothy Boyd, “You complete me.”
In the book, Cheney refers to Trump as “the most dangerous man ever to inhabit the Oval Office,” and writes, “we cannot survive a president willing to terminate our Constitution.”
In a statement, Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung said, “Liz Cheney is a loser who is now lying in order to sell a book that either belongs in the discount bargain bin in the fiction section of the bookstore or should be repurposed as toilet paper. These are nothing more than completely fabricated stories because President Trump is the clear frontrunner to be the Republican nominee and the strongest candidate to beat Crooked Joe Biden. Liz clearly suffers from Trump Derangement Syndrome and needs to address the underlying issues in her own personal life.”
Spokespersons for Green and McCarthy did not immediately return a request for comment.
