* The installation of this printer driver will first uninstall the previously installed version (if any) and then install the latest driver, prompting for a reboot if necessary.

Removing the PDF Driver

** If you want to thoroughly remove the PDF driver first before installation then following these steps. 

If StatNovaPDf does not appear in Printers and Faxes list after installation ( or receive Printer not installed while trying to create PDFs) it implies the StatNovaPDF driver was not installed properly. One possible reason for failed installation is  due to the fact that the Windows printer installer looks for the file  framedyn.dll  in the system path and does not find it. Try the steps specified here : NovaPdf Printers troubleshooting

novaPDF can be used for up to 30 days for free . During the trial, you have all the functionality of the installed edition, but each page of the resulting PDF will show a footer notice. After 30 days, the program will no longer work, unless you purchase a license and activate it. The licensed version doesn't expire and doesn't add any footer notices.

novaPDF requires the .NET framework (version 4.6 or higher) to work, so you'll be prompted during setup to install if it's not already on your PC.

Try the following in order:

Install available SSA updates

To rule out the known software issue with SSA 2020, install all available updates. It is still recommended to install available updates even if not using SSA 2020. Once updated, test creating a custom PDF Report in SSA.

Confirm novaPDF is installed

• Check to make sure novaPDF is listed in the Windows Control Panel. Under Programs and Features, look for:
• "PDF Report Writer (novaPDF 6.4 printer)" - for SSA 2019 and earlier
• "novaPDF 9 XXX" - for SSA 2020 and newer

• If the expected program was not listed, follow the steps to perform a Clean Reinstall of NovaPDF for use with Storm and Sanitary Analysis in Civil 3D and then confirm that novaPDF is listed in the Control Panel.
• Test creating a custom PDF Report in SSA.

Check the Windows Printer 

If you see no printers with "novapdf" or "pdf report writer" in the name.

• In the Print Management Window, right click and select Add Printer.
• Select   Add a new printer using an existing port.
• Scroll toNVK9: (novaPDF Port).
• Click next .
• Select "Use an existing printer driver on the computer".
• In the drop-down, select novaPDF 9 Printer Driver.

If you see a Printer with "novaPDF" in the name

• In the Print Management Window, right click on the novaPDF Printer > Printer Properties.
• In the General tab, rename the Printer to "PDF Report Writer".

If you see multiple Printers with "PDF Report Writer" in the name

For example, you may see a Printer named "PDF Report Writer" and another named "PDF Report Writer Copy 1". This can happen if you had SSA 2019 or older and SSA 2020 or newer installed on the same machine. Both installations try to create a Printer named "PDF Report Writer", which Windows does not allow. To get SSA 2020 or newer to work:  

• In the Print Management Window, rename the older "novaPDF 6" Printer to anything other than "PDF Report Writer".
• Rename the Printer with the "novaPDF 9" Driver Name "PDF Report Writer".

Note : Custom PDF Reports may now not work in SSA 2019 or older since we renamed its Printer. SSA 2019 is no longer supported, but you can reverse the logic if you'd prefer SSA 2019 or older to work over SSA 2020 or newer.

OyezForms ships with the NovaPDF engine.

Users can produce high-quality, flattened PDF copies of forms. Additionally, this allows external programs to instruct OyezForms to produce PDFs.

The following msi installation files are supplied with OyezForms 12.02G+ in the application folder.

Within OyezForms, select ADMIN>OPTIONS>EXPORT , and click on the "Install the OyezForms Printer" button. OyezForms will run the install files in sequence. You may be prompted to elevate privileges where necessary.

NB: If the 'Install the OyezForms Printer" button is not enabled, you will already have Nova7 installed. Nova7 is compatible with OyezForms 12.00G+.

Rolling-out Nova 8

When rolling out via Active Directory etc, you must install the msi files in the sequence outlined above. Failure to do so will result in non-functionality.

Successful installation will result in the ADMIN>OPTION>EXPORT "Install the OyezForms Printer" button being disabled.

Registry settings

Installation.

Earlier versions of nova are not supplied as msi files and cannot be rolled-out via Active Directory.

Installation of the NovaPDF engine is by novapk.exe (in application folder), and is triggered during:

• Standalone setup.exe installs
• Manual user attachments to networked copies of OyezForms (i.e. when <app folder>\setup\setup.exe is run)
• When a user clicks 'Install OyezForms PDF printer' under ADMIN>OPTIONS>EXPORT

The install is a separate process and will produce a separate UAC challenge.

Installation of the NovaPDF engine is not triggered during:

Options on large networks

If you are rolling out OyezForms to large numbers of locked-down users you may wish to consider Sharing the NovaPDF printer driver over a network (v10.00e+)

Windows Server Administrators familiar with print management can roll-out connections to a shared novaPDF driver:

• Find novapk.exe in the OyezForms application folder. This is the nova printer driver installer
• During install to Edit Printer Name, Custom Printer name must be named 'OyezLegalForms PDF' (case-specific, include space, do not include quotes). OyezForms will link to this printer name only.
• The Application Name must be OyezForms and Company Name must be OyezStraker Group
• Use the <app folder>\setup\rollout.msi file to roll-out user attachments. This does not trigger a local install of the novaPDF engine.
• Roll-out the following registry keys to attached users. This is not the same as selecting ADMIN>OPTIONS>EXPORT 'Use the following PDF printer', which will result in NovaPDF operating in unlicensed mode.

If the roll-out succeeds, the above path to the printer driver will be visible under ADMIN>OPTIONS>EXPORT 'Use the default OyezLegalForms PDF driver ...' section.

• When using the networked printer via COM automation of OyezForms, remember that the NovaPDF print service must have access rights to the path the pdf file will be created in.

To install novaPDF on your computer you need to have administrative rights. The installation

process does not take much time. All you need to do is follow the instructions of the "Setup -

novaPDF" wizard.

If this is the first time you install, there is no need to reboot at the end of the setup; you can print

to novaPDF right after it is installed on your machine. If you have already installed an older

version of novaPDF, you can install the new version on top of the older one, without uninstalling

it. If it is a minor release your existing printing preferences will be preserved, there's no need to

uninstall the older version. If it is a major release it will not overwrite the previous version, you

will have to uninstall it yourself. After the installation process finishes, you might be asked to

reboot your computer.

Network install

novaPDF server editions (Lite, Standard or Professional) can be installed on a central computer

and used by any computer in the network. This is what you have to do:

Choose a computer in the network that will be the "print server". Install novaPDF server (Lite,

Standard or Professional) on it, as described in the Install section.

If you will be connecting to novaPDF using Remote Desktop, Terminal Services or Citrix sessions

then you do not need to share and install on the client computers anything.

If you are not using Remote Desktop, Terminal Services or Citrix you have to share the novaPDF

printer. From any workstation ("client computer") in the network, connect to the shared novaPDF

server. You can connect to a shared network printer in several ways. Here are two of them:

· from Windows Start menu, Settings, open Printers and Faxes. Select Add Printer and

choose the novaPDF server you shared on the "print server".

· in Windows Explorer, go to the "print server", open Printers and Faxes, select novaPDF

server and from the pop-up menu choose Connect

After a connection was made to the novaPDF server, you can see it in your list of printers on the

workstation ("client computer"). You can go to any application and print to it.

Go to the novaPDF application group (from the Windows Start menu and click Uninstall

novaPDF). You can also uninstall the application from Add or Remove programs from the

Control Panel.

Network uninstall

On the workstations ("client computers") go to the Windows Start menu, Settings, open

Printers and Faxes. Select the novaPDF server and delete it. On the "print server" go to the

novaPDF application group (from the Windows Start menu and click Uninstall novaPDF). You

can also uninstall the application using the Add/Remove programs icon from the Control

Command line

i faced similar issue while creating an MSI for cutePDF. however stopping and restarting the spooler service resolved the issue. You can try this script. hope it helps!

Before you use it, I'd be adding a ton of error-trapping in there. (no offence, BTW, but this is a common fault with scripts I see) For starters, the script assumes that the service stopped. What if it didn't? As it is, the script will blunder on and the install will fail if the service is still running.

i would be pleased to know the loopholes so that i can correct it in future. However we did manual as well as package testing using this script and all is working fine till date.

Hi, Someone suggested I create a blank msi and call the .exe and create something called a ISS file from the installshield .exe and then use this ISS file which will contain al custom settings and install the .exe silently. I am not sure how to create an ISS file and go about this process. Thanx...

The key phrase there is "till date" (you meant "to date", of course). It works because the systems you're testing on are (hopefully) perfect. What happens when the local permissions are in error and even an admin user can't stop the service? It happens (and more often than you might think!) What I'm trying to do is educate people to program defensively. Scripts should check EVERYTHING and that includes object creation (yes, including things like creating the FileSystemObject object). Each file copy operation needs a check to see if the file was successfully copied, etc, etc. Assume NOTHING! At some point, something WILL go wrong and your scripts should cater for that.

got a suggestion for u. Attimes wen the printer driver capture takes place drivers don't actually get captured. U can use the MSi whihc had been captured and define a custom action to run after install finalise..which launches the exe for printer.the printer shall b setup. Also define sa similar custom action at the time fo uninstall. I hope that should do for the application.

The script isn't designed to install the printer but to get it to appear in the list of available printers, after the driver has been installed. I don't know this app at all but I suspect that - like most drivers - it's driven by an INF file. If it is, refer to the 'sticky' post at the top of the forum page which refers to driver installation.

The application is called Statistica and the pdf printer is a third party tool called Nova pdf. The following are the files available in the .exe folder: AUTORUN.bmp Autorun.exe AUTORUN.INF AUTORUN.INI AUTORUNH.bmp data1.cab data1.hdr data2.cab engine32.cab layout.bin setup.bmp setup.exe setup.ibt setup.ini setup.inx setup.isn setup.iss XXNET New Folder The New Folder contains 2 files .tmp and .lic files both contain license flexlm information

You'll need to post the MSI for NovaPDF somewhere like senduit.com, as the default distro doesn't seem to be available in MSI form.I suspect that the folks at Statistica re-packaged it into MSI.

There shouldnt be a need to start and stop spooler services when installing printers and you should NEVER snapshot a printer installation as the printer is installed in sequance from a registry perspective so you run the risk of breaking an already installed printer. Use PRINTUI.DLL to install your printer, run it via a custom action once you have dropped the files to the machine. Below is an example, but use google to find more: rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /if /b "HP4510-DH" /f "\\servername\apps\drivers\JP Drivers\HP4510\XP\hpc4015c.inf" /r "lpt1:" /m "HP LaserJet P4010_P4510 Series PCL 6" P

The thing is, I think, Paul, not all these PDF creation doo-hickies install as printers. Most do, but not all. That's why I asked for the MSI to be posted somewhere where we can d/l it and take a look.

You mean something REALLY radical like creating a copy of the MSI without the license file in it? No, I don't think I can.

What are you using to author/edit the MSI? Both Wise and InstallShield provide a UI for controlling services.

The link you sent worked like a charm VBS....Thanx :-) There is one final glitch to the package...since I performed a setup capture and made an msi from the exe. HKCR has lot of entries.The distribution team says they are unwanted. I don't know which to delete because if I randomly delete entries which look like repated entries under HKCR I fear the users might lose some functionality of the program. Why the Distribution team does not want entries under HLCR? My best guess is if an msi package with HKCR installs on a user's machine it installs/overwrites the registry with all those HKCR entries on the user's machine.If the msi package is uninstalled.it would remove all those HKCR entries and the Distribution team probably fears that would/could cause issues.

Who knows? They probably do (one would hope!) Remember that HKCR is an amalgam of HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes and HKCU\SOFTWARE\Classes. It may be that they're objecting to stuff in HKLM but, if they're discreet to the app, I can't honestly see what their objection could be.

I removed the HKCR\TypeLib\{GUID} registry key and the HKCR\Interface\{GUID} registry key and that brought down the registry entries in HKCR from around 6000 to 649 VBS...Any more suggestions on what else to remove from HKCR

And why did you do that, exactly? Where, in any of my posts, did I suggest that as a course of action? Now you (probably) have a broken installation package. I hope you have a back-up...

None! If your distro guys want them deleted, have them make it work after deployment. Clearly, they have no idea what they're doing.

I wish what you said was true...but these guys have 8-10 years of packaging experience before they moved to distibution ....I can no way argue with them...and they will not accept the package [:(]...is there no other alternative..the current registry entries show 5938

Fine. Let them sort it out, then. I'm done. It would be interesting, though, to know exactly what they're objecting to. Thinking around the subject, it could be that they're objecting to entries in HKCR which ought to be in the advertising tables (e.g. Classes, AppID) instead. Could that be it?

TP24667, I guess you should ask the "team" how they want the COM-component (ex. DLL, OCX, EXE) registration information to be written during install; which can be handled in three different ways: 1. Self-registration through either the SelfReg table or custom action; this option is NOT recommended. 2. Purely through the Registry table. 3. Through the COM-advertise related tables (ex. Class, TypeLib, ProgId and some small portion in the Registry table) If they want support for self-healing during COM-component(s) API calls then methoed 3 would be preferred.

LOL...what sort of company is it that you're working for?!? Holy cow! Look, you have a working solution which, provided you have followed the recommendations here, conforms to best practise. There is NO other solution so, if this was me, I'd forward the whole thing to the packaging team lead/manager, along with unanswered emails (if any), records of telephone call attempts, the instruction from whoever to NOT contact the distribution team - basically all the documented evidence - and have him sort it out. Your job is done.

I read through the thread again and you've captured a installshield legacy setup. So, a lot of HKCR registry entries will be associated with the legacy ISScript engine during capture which should be removed. The best would be if you could make the MSI or WSI available for us to have a look so we could tell you what to include and to exclude from the Registry table and do your job [;)]

These - along with the relevant files - should, of course, be amongst the very first things a packager should add to the list of things to exclude from a capture.

You can install NovaPDF seperately.  Here`s the link to there support page.  I had the same issue with another software and this was my solution.  Worked like a charm !
